Well, I go to the Howell GameStop expecting to compete, but they change EVERYTHING within 2 days. They went from 490 unlimited to these rules:
No legendaries (including trios)
No OHKO's
No Self-Destruct/Explosion, PERIOD
Even a stat capping rule if I remember.
So after letting the manager having it I went to Freehold Mall and they let me in last minute under the expected rules (490 unlimited), they did change it to Single Battle (a small gripe, but better than the BS at Howell)
Well anyway, I ran:
Latios (Soul Dew)
Groudon (Salac Berry)
Jumpluff ("Ice" Berry, Shiny)
Charizard (Heat Rock, Shiny)
Giratina (Spell Tag)
Snorlax (Quick Claw)
Well, here's how it went:
Round 1:
Lucky here, a guy had a Scarfcross and didn't use it. Anyway, I lead Latios, he leads Metagross. I switch to Groudon, he CH's immediately. UGH! So I send in Snorlax, I elect to Self-Destruct and take out the Metagross before it pulls anything else off. Then, Latios comes out, CM's, and sweeps out Togekiss and Armaldo.
Round 2:
Some little kid, led with Metronome Jirachi. I do 2 CM's, then Thunderbolt, AND THE DAMN JIRACHI STILL LIVED! Fortunately, didn't do much in return, I T-Bolted it, then Dragon Pulsed the incoming Palkia and Rayquaza FTW
Round 3:
Probably my hardest match, the guy was running Draco Meteor/Adamant Orb Dialga, SpecsMence, and ScarfCross. I lead with Groudon, he leads with Heracross. I take the hit and SD with Groudon. Megahorn again, this time I Endure. I had specifically raised this Groudon with a speed nature to outspeed other Groudon, Salaccross, Scarfcross, and anything of the like. I get the Fire Punch off in the sun and KO the Heracross. In came Weavile. I Fire Punch, he Sashes. HOWEVER, payback's a bitch and he's burned. I lose Groudon, but he also loses Weavile. Then comes in Dialga. I send in Latios and hit it as hard as I can with Dragon Pulse and eat a Draco Meteor in return. Then, I send out Shiny Jumpluff. Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, Solarbeam, GG, HF.
Round 4:
This is a guy who was bragging about using his Blissey, but he leads with Milotic. I lead Latios, I CM, and his Ice Beam does only about a third. Then, I Thunderbolt, he switches in Blissey. Knowing his Blissey has Toxic instead of Thunder Wave (THANK GOD) and no Seismic Toss, I proceed to CM up Latios. After 3 or 4, sweep out Blissey in 2 hits (I liked the kid but next time please train Blissey in Special Defense). Then, I T-Bolt Milotic and Dragon Pulse Garchomp FTW.
Round 5:
A mid-teenager (probably 13-14) and the uber whore of the day, sporting Kyogre, Palkia, Mewtwo, and one other I can't remember offhand, also putting in Garchomp and T-Tar. UGH. Can't weather-control him, so I go basic Latios/Groudon/'Lax. He leads T-Tar, I switch in Groudon. Eat Crunch, it's going perfectly so far. Then I Swords Dance, the kid sends in Kyogre to wipe out the sun fearing Jumpluff and certainly protecting T-Tar from a big hit. Next turn, I Endure, he uses Surf. Perfect. Salac Berry kicks in, EQ Kyogre, T-Tar, and then through Sand Veil on Garchomp FTW.
Then, I took PBR home (saved myself $50), then shared some of the love with the Japanese game giving the Round 4 and 5 guys Dark Void Mews.
Props:
The 2nd place kid, doing well despite all the adults/older teens there.
The store manager in Freehold, ran it very well.
Not paying $50 for a relatively empty PBR game.
Slops:
Howell. Changing their rules on 2 days notice and extremely at that. I swear they must've hated the fact I signed up to ban everything. I don't mind no ubers, but don't give the players no preparation, and the parents there heavily complained. Utter bullshit.
The heat in Freehold Mall. It got quite hot.
GARCHOMP! Everybody used the damn thing except for like one or two people
Enjoy
