should come with DP Dex/Wi-Fi Trade Center beta, shortly after the older generation dexes. sorry this took so long, i rewrote the whole site in a different programming language (python). it simply got too hard to maintain in PHP; I can attest that after this rewrite I seriously, seriously doubt I will ever do another rewrite of the site.

other stuff coming shortly after (in order):

* Bash
* Album
* Damage Calculator
* Tournament System

and in '08, plans are to scrap vBulletin completely and go with our own system which will give you your own profile at smogon.com/~chaos (or your username, whatever), but i dont plan on elaborating on that too much yet!

Sweet chaos, it'll be up around the time my trade thread is over, and I'll have time to enjoy it before Metroid Prime 3 is out :P

Also, looking forward to that profile system.

I am looking very forward to this though if I may ask. What is the biggest problem with vB that is causing it to be scrapped?
 
I'm going to Tampa for a week, and the 20th is included. Hope I can get on the internet and check it out. Awesome news regardless.

Most web software is designed so the program logic is separated from the display of the program. vBulletin breaks the rules so hard; it's nearly impossible to change how it looks. Sure, you can do what other sites do and change the CSS of the skin so it looks like it's in different colors, but I don't want to do that- I've done a lot of research on HTML and usable web interfaces and I don't want to use vBulletin's markup in any way. I tried last year to completely change the code and most people agreed that what I had looked really cool but I hit a lot of walls because some of vBulletin's display was coded directly into the PHP files or the JavaScript files, making it impossible to make the display "completely mine" without modifying vBulletin itself.

Of course, I've scrapped the ideal of "not modifying vBulletin" for the most part. I have to modify vBulletin so I can get it to work correctly with my Python programs (the site shares the user database, making people register more than once ala-Bulbagarden and all its areas is really amateur). Of course, this is an intermediate step; eventually the vBulletin will be sold to someone from this forum. If you want a vBulletin lifetime license in '08, I will give it for less than Jelsoft sells it for!

Also, PHP sucks. vBulletin sucks. vBulletin, in all of my experience programming, is one of the worst programmed pieces of commercial software I've ever seen in my life. It's inefficient as all get out, the design choices are very questionable, and it's written in a language I plan to phase out from my dedicated server completely. Fuck it.

edit: the community associated with vBulletin is retarded too (vbulletin.org). A surprising few actually know anything about programming from my experience browsing and conversing.
 
Sorry if this classifies as something you aren't willing to talk about, but are we going to have to sign up again after vBulliten is scrapped?

Yeah, I've seen quite a few of these board programs where pretty much the most you can do is modify the skin. If vBulletin isn't working for you, I doubt many users will complain to see it gone in the future.

This is why I don't want to answer questions, nobody has any common sense. Yes Biolizard, I'm going to make probably 20,000 people or so resign up in '08. Yep, that's the plan, I really think things through. No more stupid questions, people.
