Warstory: Cynthia vs. ShinyOddish!

UU battles are uncommon on Shoddy, so sometimes we UU battlers must have repeat opponents. I have faced ShinyOddish several times in the past and we have had some very close matches. Before this match I added some new Pokemon to my team in order to perfect my team. But I wasn’t the only one with surprises up my sleeve…
The teams, in order of appearance
Cynthia:

ShinyOddish:

Rules: Evasion Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Sleep Clause, Strict Damage Clause, Timed Battle
Shiny Oddish sent out Noctowl (lvl 100 Noctowl ?).
Cynthia- sent out Swellow (lvl 100 Swellow ?).
Shiny Oddish switched in Magcargo (lvl 100 Magcargo ?).
Swellow used Protect.
Swellow protected itself!
Swellow was burned!
Well, he predicted that Protect perfectly. I was really unsure of what Noctowl was running here.
Cynthia- switched in Blastoise (lvl 100 Blastoise ?).
Magcargo used Recover.
Swellow can’t dent Magcargo much, so it was Blastoise time.

It's not very effective...

I suppose I could have Ice Beamed instead, but early in matches I tend to go predictable.

I tried to be a little unpredictable and use the opportunity to bring out my big gun. Stealth Rock might be more annoying than usual with Blastoise asleep.

A crit on Hidden power is nice, but it doesn’t hurt Magcargo too much. Guess it doesn’t have abysmal SpecialDef like Aggron. I’ll remind myself later to exchange for HP Ground.

The crit is helpful, but that is a lot of recoil. Rapidash is dead to Quick Attack now

Okay, now I see something and it's a good warstory.

If you have a notepad program, copy and paste your story directly from word to notepad, then copy the notepad stuff, and paste it here. It doesn't copy the bolding, but that can be done much more quickly than getting rid of the annoying tags.

Scyther is a monster...I watched Oddish sweep several OU teams with him yesterday, so it's a shame he never got to shine. I'm just glad to see ShinyOddish playing UU again!

Thanks for this, was great to read. We really need to UU sometime Cynthia, I've only ever played your Cynthia team a month or two ago...dunno if you remember...Muk, Sharpedo, Rotom, Blastoise etc.

I actually read the battle, and I wonder if you remembered Tinted Len's effect on Venomoth. Altria's resistance to Bug Buzz doesn't come into play, and probopass is only 2x resistant.

The real surprise for me was that this team lasted as long as it did, it had been specifically designed to mess with random#s rather annoying UU team ... (actually Venomoth had replaced Hypno ... but I digress)

Having battled you before, and having come to loathe your Vileplume/Altaria combo, so I usually try to battle you with a more solid team. Still serves me right for blindly accepting challenges without checking who my opponent is ...

Erm not really, it was more a case of blind panic, I was switching in the only thing on my time that I thought stood any sort of a chance against Swellow.

It was rock ... I normally carry HP: Ice for other grass types and annoying Altaria swich-ins ... unfortauntely because Meganium is a staple of all my UU teams I forgot this wasn't the standard and wouldn't do much to Vileplume. >_>

Actually I had been running brick break on Scyther but alas I dropped it for U-Turning annoyance in my previous matches ... c'est la vie. Still I can't be certain that it would have Ko'd the big lump of rock/steel so it's irrelevant really.

Well I'm almost completely through with ladder matches, (I'll still play the odd one when I haven't had a UU battle for an hour or so), so that's probably all you'll be seeing me playing now.

*Edit* Scratch that, having spent most of this morning on Shoddy being continually challenged to OU and Ubers matches despite clearly being in the UU room, challenged by people who have no idea what constitutes UU and feeling generally uninspired by the atmosphere ... you'll be lucky to see me there at all.

Holy crap, I just noticed the eyes on Lee's avatar. O_o

On a more related note, I read the warstory, and it was good. Gives me some insight into UU if I ever decide to pick that one up, and was an enjoyable read.

Huge props on using Rapidash, my fave poke atm.

Thanks for the comments. Random#'s does have a rather annoying team if I recall correctly, perhaps I would have fared worse against a team not specifically designed for someone else. :)

And yes Rapidash is wonderful. I like shiny Rapidash especially.

Great Battle! I'm trying to learn UU and this warstory was very helpful. SpecsMoth packs heat, with tinted lens and Altaria is heavily underated. We need more UU warstories, thanks for taking the time to post.

Base 145 defence, and he completely walls the normal/flying CBbirds ... however like Aggron the double weakness to ground and fighting attacks stops him from being an effective physical wall in UU.

Think of him as a special wall that can serve as a fairly sturdy back-up tank.

This single warstory inspired me to make a UU team. I already had a BL team but UU > that! I heard that Specs Venomath was deadly, capable of 2HKO'ing Calm Empoleon. I also read that Altaria was a force to be reckoned with in UU as well, both DD and Specs.

On a side note, it's true that you don't have to get warstories approved anymore, eh?

On another side note, I don't think Gastradon is a very good UU lead anymore, because I've seen a lot of Swellow leads.

This is a really good warstory and extremely helpful since me and some friends are going to make UU teams. It was specially helpful in seeing what the UU metagame is like.

But UU matches are always nice to read.
