I'm sure you'll end up hating me as a ref for this arena ;D

Anyway, here are the all-important battle set-ups thingies!

After my first bout at the Colosseum, I issue a new challenge to anybody wishing to take it.
4v4 doubles
Arena: the Colosseum. Yes, the one in Rome. If the emperor (ref) deems the battle too uneventful, wild pokemon may be released from their cages in order to add some oomph to the fight.
2 rec- 5 chills- Evolved pokemon definitely present.

With fewer fences probably. You never know, the Romans could have been health and safety junkies! Wait, I'm forgetting what the Colosseum was built for...

The Emperor has arranged (I'm already lying, oh well) an exquisite battle to occur in Rome today! Seasoned Colosseum battler LupusAter is returning to their Latin roots for another time, hoping to best Venser in a battle to the death! Here are those all-important teams.

As the match Challenger, LupusAter will send out first. Venser will follow with actions. Then LupusAter will post actions. Then I will release a hail of Magikarp upon thee ref.

You're sending those out? Fine, go Daredevil and Privatyke!

Daredevil, use Earthquake 3 times! Matey, Drain Punch twice on Houndoom and once on Totodile!

Fafnir, use Waterfall three times on Daredevil. Use the water to muddy the ground and soften the Earthquakes.
Fenris, use Inferno as he's just about to punch you, to minimize his chances of evasion. Then Thunder Fang him twice. If the Inferno misses, Will-O-Wisp Matey in the arm as a second action.

It's a pretty exciting day at the colosseum, as this awesome battle finally begins! The wolfy LupusAter begins by sending out their two choices: a dog that is truly birthed from the fires of hell, and... Well, a toga-wearing crocodile of course! How appropriate.

Houndoom(*) [Fenris] (M)

Croconaw(*) [Fafnir] (M)

Actions: Waterfall ~ Waterfall ~ Waterfall (All on Daredevil)

Venser replies with his own choices - a blazing orangutan and a sailor squid! I really can't decide whose team is stranger...

Darmanitan(*) [Daredevil]
HP: 110
Energy: 100
Status: Smile for the camera! Wait, this is in Roman times...
Actions: Earthquake ~ Earthquake ~ Earthquake

Arghonaut [Matey]
HP: 110
Energy: 100
Status: Yarrgh!
Actions: Drain Punch ~ Drain Punch (Both on Fenris) ~ Drain Punch (Fafnir)

Getting the jump on Fenris through a stroke of luck, Daredevil starts the battle off by shaking things up (/cliché) with an Earthquake! The ground rumbles under the punching of the Darmanitan, and it deals pretty hefty damage all round - including against his own partner! Fenris hangs backs a little - perhaps he was injured by the Earthquake? That's of no consequence to Matey though, as he moves in to deliver some punishing blows. Woah, what's this? Fenris was only feigning injury, and delivers a terrible (and slightly more accurate) Inferno, inflicting a 3rd Degree Burn. Ouch!

Despite this setback, Matey soldiers on and breaks some of Fenris' teeth with a tough Drain Punch, healing a nice 11HP! A tad late to the party, our toga-wearing crocodile friend Fafnir slams into Daredevil with a Waterfall. It wets the ground slightly, but that won't reduce the damage by much...

It looks like the second set of actions will be much the same as the first, with Daredevil once again getting lucky and going first with an Earthquake! Cracks in the ground are beginning to form... These batterings are beginning to take their toll on Fenris, but he still manages to get up and bash Matey around with a Thunder Fang. It surprisingly doesn't do all that much, and not even a secondary effect is to be had.

Attempting to take revenge for the burn, Matey once again sends Fenris reeling with a Drain Punch, healing 11HP again. Wetting the ground further, Fafnir attacks yet again with Waterfall. This might add up to something significant eventually 9.9

Starting the final round of actions, Daredevil continues his rampage with Earthquake. Finally, Fenris can take no more, and rolls over - KO'd!

Fenris has been KO'd!
Daredevil has gained one KO counter!

That's not to say that it didn't hurt the other combatants too, and a visible rift has opened in the centre of the arena. What could spill forth from within? Matey can't be bothered with such speculation though, and moves over to his next target - Fafnir. It would have been an incredible battle, but really Matey just whacked him with yet another Drain Punch, healing 7HP! Fafnir takes out his rage on Daredevil, striking him with another Waterfall! The sand is looking pretty soggy now.

At the end of that round, Fenris was KO'd (even taking ground-wetting into account!). Let's take a more detailed look.

Suffering an early KO, LupusAter chooses his next Pokémon - Thrym the Larvitar! But what's this? Larvitar is evolving!

DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN CHEEEEEE.. KAPWOW!
DOO DOO DOO, DOODOODOODOODOODOODOOOOOOO DUN
(I'm the best at impersonating in-game music)

Congratulations, your Thrym evolved into Pupitar! Here are the teams as they stand now:

Pupitar Thrym (M)
HP: 100
Energy: 80
Status: Cocoon? More like Cocool 8)
Actions: Stone Edge (Daredevil) ~ Rock Slide ~ Stone Edge (Daredevil)

Croconaw(*) [Fafnir] (M)
HP: 26
Energy: 67
Status: Ripped toga :(
Actions: Activate Sheer Force Waterfall ~ Aqua Jet ~ Waterfall / Flail

Darmanitan(*) [Daredevil]
HP: 43
Energy: 67
Status: EARTHQUACK, BRAKE STUPID TREE
Actions: Will-o-Wisp (Fafnir) ~ Will-o-Wisp (Thrym) ~ Yawn (Fafnir)

Arghonaut [Matey]
HP: 66
Energy: 67
Status: 3rd Degree Burn, ouch!
Actions: Waterfall (Thrym) ~ Recover ~ Waterfall (Thrym)

Since a grinning monkey is clearly faster than an octupus, a crocodile and a dinosaur-in-waiting, Daredevil begins the round by firing off some ghostly flames at Fafnir, hoping to avenge his partner's burn with Will-o-Wisp. However, it completely misses! The burn matters little to Matey however, as he surges forward and strikes Thrym incredibly hard with Waterfall! Indeed, Fafnir has watery ideas of his own and - elated at not being burned - charges into Daredevil with his own Waterfall. The newest Pokémon on the field is the last to move, but makes it count with a Stone Edge, and finally Daredevil can take no more. This doesn't seem like a good environment for Fire-types!

Daredevil has been KO'd!
Thrym has gained 1 KO Counter.

Fafnir decides to get the speed edge on everybody else by using... wait, he isn't there anyway! 9.9 Matey decides to take advantage of this, by using Recover to restore 20HP! Thrym isn't going to let this lie though, and fire off a Rock Slide!

Matey begins this time, and gets straight on the offensive with another Waterfall against Thrym, dealing some mad damage! This Pupitar might not survive for long... Worried for his partner, Fafnir Flails around, but Thrym seems to be capable of taking care of himself, using Stone Edge!

The gap in the ground is slowly getting wider. The rift is in the centre of the arena, but all of the Pokémon have been engaging in close combat on one side of this gap.

Pupitar Thrym (M)
HP: 36
Energy: 61
Status: About to get wrapped up.

Croconaw(*) [Fafnir] (M)
HP: 26

Status: Toga is still pretty ripped.

Status: Got braked 9.9

Arghonaut [Matey]
HP: 45
Energy: 67
Status: 3rd Degree Burn, ouch!

Venser, your next Pokémon and actions please!

Right, go Shroomish!

Okay this is going to be..interesting.

Matey, use Waterfall on Pupitar. Then, Drain Punch Croconaw.

Shroomish, follow up Matey's Waterfall with a Seed Bomb to take it out. Then, follow up the Drain Punch with a Seed Bomb on Croconaw.

That should be enough to take them out. If it doesn't, have Matey use Recover and Turtle take out whoever's left with another Seed Bomb.

Waterfall (Pupitar) ~ Drain Punch (Croconaw) ~ Recover

Seed Bomb (Pupitar) ~ Seed Bomb (Croconaw) ~ Seed Bomb (Whoever's left)

Ok, Thrym, Dragon Dance to avoid the attacks, and give priority to the avoiding of Waterfall, then Stone Edge and Crunch Shroomish.
Fafnir, Ice Punch Shroomish, then it will be your turn to perform an evasive Dragon Dance, with priority given to the avoidal of Seed Bomb, and end with another powerful Ice Punch on Shroomish.

Arghonaut [Matey]
HP: 45

Actions: Waterfall ~ Drain Punch ~ Recover

After the two speed Fire-types being eliminated, it's now Matey who begins! Jumping over to Thrym in a stereotypically swashbuckling way, he delivers a powerful Waterfall! Fortunately for the Pupitar however, it managed to dodge some of the damage with a quick Dragon Dance! God knows how it dances, but hey it's Pokemon.
Making the most of the time that is quickly slipping away, Fafnir whacks Turtle around his :< chops with an Ice Punch! The Shroomish is, fortunately, left unfrozen from the blow. On the flipside, let's hear a few sobs for poor Thrym, who doesn't even get a chance to use his boosts as he's KO'd by a nasty Seed Bomb from Turtle.

Thrym has been KO'd!
Turtle has gained 1 KO Counter!

It's looking a tad on the unlucky side for Fafnir now, who's charged with fighting off two relatively healthy opponents at the same time! Matey confirms this by bashing Fafnir into the ground with a Drain Punch, which restores 7HP. Turtle then attempts to finish Fafnir once and for all, but the much-faster croc foils these plans by luckily (for once) managing to dodge all of its Seed Bombs with a nimble Dragon Dance!

Hoping for one last hurrah, Fafnir slams into Turtle with a final Ice Punch, dealing some pretty hefty damage. It looks like Matey has something to say about this and gathers up all of his strength to... Recover? The Emperor is most displeased with this cowardice! He's pretty satisfied however when Turtle finally destroys Fafnir with another Seed Bomb.

Fafnir has been KO'd!
Turtle has gained 1 KO Counter!

So at the end of that round in which Lupus was definitely put on the back foot, here are the results!

Nidhogg, that Arghonaut is a problem. Eradicate it. Activate Contrarian and use Leaf Storm, Giga Drain and Leaf Storm on it. If the Shroomish tries to Spore you, use Leaf Storm to blow them away.

I guess there'll be no sporing going on here. Oh well.

Arghy, Ice Punch until you die! If it would ever be in KO range, chill instead.

Old habits die hard.

Anyway, here we go! LupusAter reveals his final Pokémon, a truly Roman Serperior!

Serperior [Nidhogg] (M)
HP: 100
Energy: 100
Status: The champion of the arena has arrived!
Actions: Leaf Storm ~ Giga Drain ~ Leaf Storm

Shroomish [Turtle]
HP: 52
Energy: 70
Status: Proving his mushroomliness.
Actions: Focus Punch ~ Focus Punch ~ Focus Punch

Arghonaut [Matey]
HP: 72
Energy: 36
Status: 3rd Degree Burn, ouch!
Actions: Ice Punch ~ Ice Punch ~ Ice Punch

The new challenger, and the last from LupusAter's arsenal, begins this round by firing off an incredible Leaf Storm! That sure knocked Matey for six, and what's more it raised Nidhogg's Special Attack too. This is one scary niche. Luckily, Matey is thinking in the short term, and an Arghonaut thinking in the short term is always the same - he plays the dentist and knocks seem teeth out of Nidhogg with Ice Punch! There are some big damage trade-offs in this round, and Turtle is quite content to sit back before [somehow] delivering a Focus Punch!

In a shocking turn of events, Nidhogg uses Giga Drain. The audience is astonished as Matey and Turtle strike upon a vein of creativity, and deliver an Ice Punch and a Focus Punch respectively.

Here in the colosseum we're simply riveted as Nidhogg fires off another Leaf Storm, and the other two repeat their moves. *Yawn* Matey then perishes due to burn. How exciting.

Matey has been KO'd!
Nidhogg has gained 1 KO Counter!

So Nidhogg took some pretty hard hits in that round, but it isn't out for the count just yet!

Serperior [Nidhogg] (M)
HP: 22
Energy: 78
Status: Blergh

Shroomish [Turtle]
HP: 52
Energy: 49
Status: FALCON PAWNCH!

Arghonaut [Matey]

Status: Darnit, the squid got overcooked!

Oh come on, I'm not going to let this arena go without abusing this power! Also, I don't randomly create rifts for nothing.

Out of the rift in the ground drifts a Klinklang! It looks pretty A.W.O.L.

Venser, please send out your mysterious final Pokémon and attack!

Okay les do this. Go Jyuu! Use ShadowStrike three times on that Serperior!

shroomish, put it to sleep with Spore! Then i guess Drain Punch the Klinklang twice.

Summaries of the previous round in the final round do not exist.

Jyuu the Nohface is sent out onto the battlefield, and I guess if it could smile then it would. Instead, it seems to smile with its eyes or something like that, I mean why can't you just get a mon that I can put flavour into :(

Anyway, Nidhogg starts off with a Protect, which blocks both of the attacks aimed at it, I bet you didn't know that one folks! Nidhogg then uses a Giga Drain on Turtle, healing 7HP! Will this be enough to keep it out of the jaws of death for now? Lady luck might not let that happen though, as a Shadowstrike from Jyuu it lowers its defense! Turtle goes and punches that Klinklang - it's looking pretty angry!

Nidhogg then realises that this draining is his only hope at [ah, ah, ah, ah] staying alive [staying alive], and uses Giga Drain again. It heals the same amount as before if you were wondering. Jyuu keeps it up with another Shadowstrike, but it fails to fell the grass snake! Turtle punches Klinklang again.

Ooh.

What's this?

What could this be? /fail tension-building

A beam of light begins to build in Klinklang's mouth gears, it looks like it's a Hyper Beam! But who will it hit? Here are the probabilities:
Turtle - 50%
Jyuu - 25%
Nidhogg - 25%

*Throws dice*

...

*Turns thumb down*

Oh, sorry. Just twiddling my thumbs over here. Nidhogg was blasted to smithereens!
