Seedot (Analysis) [GP 0/2]

I can provide logs if needed, though its obvious that Seedot is just barely viable enough to deserve an analysis, however; he does work occasionally as a rather frail, but possible enough sweeper. I also wasn't sure how I should list the ivs, whether or not they should be listing all the Hidden Power Fire ivs or just the 3 in HP for LO recoil.

Seedot

[Overview]

Just for starters, if you came to this analysis page looking for a good or even decent Chlorophyll sweeper for your new Drought team, then you've come to the wrong place. Although Seedot is barely viable enough to earn an honest analysis, it should not be considered for any seriously competitive Little Cup team. The only thing that is keeping this evil acorn from falling back into the abyss of unusable Pokemon thanks to its horrible stats, is its niche of utilizing Chlorophyll + Growth + Explosion, a combination which no other Little Cup Pokemon possesses. However, if you're looking for a Pokemon that would be hilarious to defeat your friend's mediocre Little Cup team with, then look no further, because Seedot is ready to explode.

[SET]
name: Dippin' Dots
move 1: Growth
move 2: SolarBeam
move 3: Explosion
move 4: Hidden Power Fire
item: Life Orb
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Naive
evs: 40 Atk / 36 Def / 200 SpA / 200 Spe
ivs: 3 HP / 30 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

The main objective of this set is to find a way to pull off one Growth, then proceed to quite possibly sweep, or just explode when low on health. Even though you have a Life Orb don't go trying to pounce on anything without having used a Growth first, as you would likely fail to do significant damage and get smashed in the face. However, after a Growth, your STAB SolarBeam would likely OHKO-2HKO anything that is not resistant to it, and is not a hardcore Special Defensive wall. Hidden Power Fire is used to cover (and likely OHKO) Grass- and Steel-types who are resistant to SolarBeam. Explosion is there to not only set itself apart from other Growth and Chlorophyll sweepers, but to likely OHKO any non Defensive wall, Ghost-, or Steel-Types (despite it not halving the opponent's defenses this generation). Keep in mind though, that you should only use Explosion when you are low on health or if you are willing to sacrifice Seedot in order to take down one of your opponent's troublesome Pokemon.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With Life Orb draining its HP so quickly and no Eviolite to soften blows, it should be noted that Seedot usually faints in a few turns after being brought out, thanks to residual damage and priority attacks. Nature Power (which turns into Earthquake in Pokemon Online battles) or Hidden Power Rock could be used over Hidden Power Fire, in order to more sufficiently take down troublesome Fire- or Flying-Types, without having to resort to Explosion. Alternatively, you could juice up Explosion by transferring a stat point from Special Attack or Speed to Attack to increase the amount of things you OHKO with Explosion, such as the Standard Lickitung after a sun Growth, on average. Although, doing so would lessen the amount of things you can OHKO with Solarbeam or outspeed. Vulpix is an obviously mandatory teammate for the infinite sun it provides with its Drought ability. Rock-Types enjoy good type synergy with Seedot, as well as the water-weakness nullification that the sun provides. Other than that, Seedot appreciates Fighting-Types to aid it with taking down full fledged counters to this set, such as Lickitung, so you don't have to waste your Seedot's Explosion on something that would likely heal back the damage in the next turn.

[Other Options]

Seedot doesn't have much in the terms of other move options, but it does get a few. Bullet Seed and Seed Bomb provide a Physical Grass-Type STAB which could work with a more Attack based set, but it usually proves to do less damage than SolarBeam in most cases. However, if you do decide to go with a purely Physical attacking set, Swords Dance should be used over Growth so you don't get screwed over with a lesser boost if the weather happens to change. Nasty Plot could be used in the same vein for a purely Special attacking set. Nature Power basically turns into Earthquake, which can be used to OHKO almost every Fire-Type after a Growth, while Hidden Power Rock handles Flying- and Fire-Types. Hidden Power Ice is also a possible alternative if you're especially worried about Gligar and it also hits other Flying- and Grass-Types. Giga Drain could be used if you want some relief from Life Orb recoil, but with your already low Special Attack stat, you'll be dealing little damage making you get too little back to be worthwhile. Synthesis is also not a good option for the frail Seedot, as it probably wouldn't be able to even withstand a hit, let alone recover one off.

[Checks and Counters]

Cloud Nine Lickitung and Swablu can both brush off or stop SolarBeam and Hidden Power Fire, but must be wary of Explosion after a sun boosted Growth, as it will put a large dent in their HP. Fire- and Flying-Types such as Vulpix and Vullaby can also easily handle Seedots looking to sweep, but need to again, watch out for a strong Explosion. Finally, weather changers such as, Snover and Hippopotas, can change the weather to make Seedot get stuck on a charging Solarbeam or Growth, and attack or roar it back. Snover, however, needs to watch out for Hidden Power Fire, when attempting to switch in safely.

[Dream World]

Pickpocket, although an unique ability, its effect of stealing an opponents item is far inferior to Chlorophyll's effect of doubling Seedot's speed, and has no reason to be used over it.

Hidden Power Rock and Ice handle opposing Flying-Types and Gligar, respectively.

Gligar is a Flying-type, and HP Ice hits Flying too, y'know.

Slash Giga Drain?

Synthesis should be mentioned.

It gets Nasty Plot and Swords Dance, too. Sure they're outclassed, but if you were running entirely physical/special Seedot for the lulz...

Rock-types are cool partners, water neutral in sun, resist fire, flying, poison, and Seedot takes ground, grass, and water

How much does +1/+2 Explosion do to Lickitung and Swablu? If anything I would say Exploding on them would be optimal (or the weather changers if possible ?) if it does enough damage (though otherwise yeah it's probably a dumb idea lol).

Seems good haha poor Seedot

Adding them in, thanks.

Code:
[U]Swablu[/U]
In case of if it switches in on your Growth, making it only +1:
16 Atk vs 21 Def & 23 HP (250 Base Power): 18 - 22 (78.26% - 95.65%)
->Avg of 20 Damage

But for +2:
22 Atk vs 21 Def & 23 HP (250 Base Power): 23 - 28 (100.00% - 121.74%)
->Avg of 25 Damage

[U]Lickitung[/U]
+1:
16 Atk vs 21 Def & 28 HP (250 Base Power): 18 - 22 (64.29% - 78.57%)
->Avg of 20 Damage

+2:
22 Atk vs 21 Def & 28 HP (250 Base Power): 23 - 28 (82.14% - 100.00%)
->Avg of 25 Damage
However, after doing the calcs I noticed that if I bumped up the Attack one point higher it would make a OHKO (28 damage) on Lickitung with +2 on average (+1 would reach 22 damage on average), should I bump up the attack by one ev forking over SpA/Spe for one more attack, hampering its possible sweeping abilities for a stronger explosion? A smart opponent vs Seedot would most likely switch in Lickitung/Swablu as soon as Seedot switched in anywho so it would most likely be a +1 boost regardless.

I think you should keep the current evs and mention in AC about the other ev spread and say why to use it.
