[OVERVIEW]

Huntail had a strange lifetime in competitive Pokemon, when it was introduced, it was completely outclassed, but in 4th Gen, it got a little use once the Physical/Special split came out, so Huntail could be a mixed Swift Swimmer. In 5th Generation, it got a blessing in the form of Shell Break, making Huntail an amazing sweeper after one turn of set up in the rain. But once Smogon decided to ban SS and Drizzle, Huntail was useless in OU because Cloyster mostly outclassed it. But in Ubers, it found a good nieche because the lack of priority users, the only common one being ExtremeKiller Arceus. But it isnt a walk in the park for Huntail, being extremely frail and having a very shallow movepool, not giving good enough coverage. All in all, Huntail can get a good nieche in Ubers if it sets up.

[SET]
name: Mixed Shell Break
move 1: Shell Break
move 2: Waterfall / Aqua Tail / Surf / Hydro Pump
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Crunch / Return / Double-Edge
item: Life Orb
evs: 128 Atk / 128 Sp.Atk / 252 Spe
nature: Mild / Hasty

[SET COMMENTS]

This is the only set the Huntail can run well in Ubers, thanks to Shell Break and Swift Swim giving him over 800 Speed, becoming faster than all scarfed Pokemon and most Pokemon at +2. Waterfall gets STAB, Ice Beam hits Flying types like Lugia and Dragon types that roam the Uber tier. Crunch is for filler, but sometimes hits the common Pure- Psychic type and Ghost types, too. Return hits everything for neutral damage, and for filler. The nature depends if you want additional speed or additional Sp.Atk, though Sp.Atk is only used for one move.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

A special Water-Type move can be used, but most Special Walls in Uber resist Water-Type moves, but do whatever you want. Double-Edge can replace Return, but with Life-Orb, Double-Edge will probably take out alot of your health, so its not much of a good idea.

Grass-types are good partners like Parasect and Shaymin-S because they can take Electric and Grass-Type moves, which will ruin Huntail's day.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

A Focus Sash can make sure you get a free setup, but Life Orb gives that extra boost. Baton Pass can be used to keep away from counters and give the Shell Smash boost to another Pokemon, but Gorebyss does this much better because of it's better bulk. Bounce can be used to hit Grass types and to keep away from moves, but its kinda useless if your really fast.

[Checks and Counters]

Kyogre is probably the best check to Huntail, considering that Kyogre resists both Ice Beam and Waterfall and can destroy it with Thunder. Unaware Quagsire is also a good counter, but can't do much damage to Huntail.
