Arena: Earthen Crater

A dry, hollowed out crater in the middle of the desert. The sun is always shining on this desolate wasteland, immortalized in time with a rocky stillness. The large arena is pockmarked with multiple meteor impacts, creating a craggy, difficult terrain. The crater forms a bowl that sharply inclines toward the center. The crater itself is about 50 feet in diameter. Rain and Hail may not be summoned in the arena, and its natural state is bright, but not particularly hot.

When sending out Pokemon, please specify the ability of the Pokemon if your Pokemon has more than one.

Arena Effects:
  • Drizzle and Snow Warning cannot be activated.
  • The moves Hail and Rain Dance will fail when used.

It appears our friend is a fish out of water (or tadpole). Not sure where it thinks it will get all that water from.

So Will Powers, time to take advantage. Set the field up by planting Stealth Rock. Then shake up the arena is a powerful Earthquake, make sure to get some dust up. Finish the round with Taunt.

Arena Effects:
  • Drizzle and Snow Warning cannot be activated.
  • The moves Rain Dance and Hail will fail when used.
Action 1:

Dust rolls along the ground of this epic-sized crater as two Pokemon trainers tip their hats to one another and send out Pokemon. The bright sunlight isn't harsh, but at the same time, seems to quickly dry out water in the vicinity of the match.

As Onix comes out of its Pokeball, it immediately begins mutating and changing shape! Before it can finish, it burrows into the ground slightly, and a yellowish glow seems to emanate from the hole. Just then, a Steelix bursts forth from the hole! Onix must've just gotten to the required power level to evolve from entering this battle! He seems a little bit more tired from the evolution, but still ready and raring to go.

His opponent grits his teeth at the sudden evolution, and sends out Yodawh, his Lotad, to start the battle off!

Lotad, slightly faster than the opposing Steelix, rushes forward and tries to whip up a wave of water, only to find out that he can't because there's no water in the arena! Curses! He should've created some water first with one of his other moves! His trainer slaps his forehead, clearly frustrated that he forgot such a trivial mechanic! Yodawg used Surf! But it failed!

Steelix takes no chances and immediately begins his assault. Instead of directly attacking, however, he wraps his lengthy tail around some nearby rocks in the arena and charges them with some sort of magnetic energy. He then launches them across the opposing side of the arena with his magnetic control, and they suspend themselves in air at a distance from Lotad. The Lotad looks around, unsure of what is happening, but convinced that it can't be good. Will Powers used Stealth Rock! Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!

Action 2:

Lotad, obeying his master, yet really wanting to get some water out on the field, propels a glowing ball of green energy at the Steelix! It strikes and buries itself inside the metal snake, after which it bursts forth and small energetic particles fly back toward Lotad to make it feel a little better! Yodawg used Giga Drain! Sturdy activated! Steelix takes 10 damage!

After the attack, Steelix reels back slightly, raises his thick metallic tail into the sky, and brings it crashing down on the ground hard! The ground nearby Steelix fractures slightly from the hit, and sand is kicked up all around the impact area, although Lotad is nowhere near close enough to be caught in it. Will Powers used Earthquake! It's not very effective... Yodawg takes 11 damage!

Action 3:

The Lotad's rather frustrated now, and knows that his next action just won't do anything, but he tries anyway because his master said to! He rushes around in the sand trying to conjure up some water from the abyss, but there's just none there to grab! Yodawg used Surf! But it failed!

The metal behemoth glares at the silly action of a Lotad trying to Surf in sand and can't contain himself any longer. He collapses onto the sandy floor and starts laughing at it with a low roar! Yodawg, so angry that he's being made fun of, completely forgets about support moves and really wants to just... just.. just beat that Steelix up! Will Powers used Taunt! The foe's Yodawg fell for the Taunt!

A daring dare CHew Toshio. Well, we know what to do with that, don't we?

Start by looking over the terrain for a hole, preferably a small one, but don't be too picky, Heracross is pretty quick. Steelix's Stealth Rock should buy you a little time smacking Heracross around as it enters, and EQ should have split up a few good Weedle sized holes. See if you can duck and cover into it, and prepare for an ambush.

Next, lay in wait for Heracross to come to you. When you see it, immediately fire a String Shot around its horn and use its own momentum to slam it into the ground. Hopefully its strong enough to put Heracross in a precarious position and build a little sand and rubble around it.

Finish my crawling up Heracross's midsection and injecting your Poison Sting right into its stomache with the big stinger on your head. Heracross may be a gutsy fellow, but he needs to be put on a timer. He might also find it a bit hard to aim with a Weedle on his chest.

You can do it Chew Toshio! Make that big brute Bug Out!

Duck and cover in the nearest hole and wait ~ String Shot Heracross' horn and plunge it into the ground ~ Direct jab Poison Sting into Heracross' stomache.

Arena Effects:

  • Drizzle and Snow Warning cannot be activated.
  • The moves Rain Dance and Hail will fail when used.
Action 1:

The Pokemon are both returned to their Poke Balls after that round, and a double switch phase commences! Trainer Deck Knight sends out his fierce Weedle, to which trainer Darkamber responds with his Heracross! As the Pokemon are sent out, though, something happens...

Pointed stones dug into the foe's Floofy! Floofy takes 12 damage!

After the rocks jab Heracross enough to do some lasting damage, the Heracross busts onto the scene pissed off and looking for trouble. It sees the Weedle trying to hobble away toward a hole, but isn't having it. Heracross lifts up a nearby rock and chucks it toward the unsuspecting bug! Floofy used Stone Edge! It's super effective! Chew Toshio takes 22 damage!

The poor Weedle squelches under the big boulder that landed atop him, but perseveres nonetheless. As the boulder rolls away, it appears from Heracross's point of view that Chew Toshio has completely vanished..?

Action 2:

Heracross runs forth to where the boulder clearly smacked the silly little bug. Looking down at the ground, he notices nothing out of the ordinary. Trying to seek out the bug, he attacks the ground at his feet with a swift sweeping attack motion! Floofy used Aerial Ace! Floofy's attack missed!

Even though he used an attack that can't miss, he didn't actually even aim at where the Weedle was hiding! Bursting forth from the sand off from where the Heracross attacked, Chew Toshio sends a webbing of sticky goo at the Heracross's horn as it pivots to set up its next attack against the bug! Chew Toshio used String Shot!

Action 3:

Heracross's horn is yanked by Weedle's string and plunges into the sand, revealing his squishy underbelly to the bug! With the initiative in his side of the ring, Chew Toshio leaps forward from his hiding place and jabs Heracross right in the belly with his poisoned horn! Chew Toshio used Poison Sting! A critical hit! Floofy takes 10 damage! Floofy was poisoned! Floofy's Guts activated!

Heracross, frustrated from the dripping poison seeping into his veins, gets really pumped somehow miraculously! He rolls to his side and snaps the string from his horn with ease, flinging the poor Weedle slightly to the side, vulnerable to attack. Heracross reaches over to the boulder that he had tossed earlier, grapples it with his horn, and flings it backwards over his head at Chew Toshio! The boulder soars and connects with the vulnerable Bug-type Pokemon! Floofy used Stone Edge! It's super effective! Chew Toshio takes 25 damage!

Floofy is hurt by its poison! Floofy takes 2 damage.

I'm sort of confused. Don't I go first now? "Deck Knight issues actions" came first twice in a row.

And don't I, if I'm the person who goes first, decide whether or not I feel like switching?

eh whatever, another good matchup works for me.

EDIT: ok, guess not. Well then.

I think we're faster even after a speed drop, so

Flooffy stay in

Alright Rook. Near as I can tell Floofy needs to get in close. We can deal with that.

Start with a Worry Seed. Floofy won't be feeling so Gutsy after that, and will have difficulty concentrating.

Next, trap Floofy in a Sand Tomb. It has few effective attacks from a distance, and you've got a bit of sturdiness in you.

While trapped, it will be difficult to maintain focus with anything but Grass moves, so follow up with a Mega Drain. We need to drag this battle out a bit.

If Floofy protects on Sand Tomb, use Swords Dance, then Sand Tomb around it to drop it in.

Arena Effects:

  • Drizzle and Snow Warning cannot be activated.
  • The moves Rain Dance and Hail will fail when used.
Action 1:

This time, only PKMN trainer Deck Knight switches, yielding the initiative to his opponent! Regardless, he returns the mighty Chew Toshio and sends out his fresh Rook, the Turtwig!

Heracross, however, knows his opponent's plan and leads with a defensive maneuver to block all moves he'd be suffering! Floofy used Protect!

Rook attempts to start the round with a stifling seed that would have removed Heracross's defenses against his poison, but unfortunately, Heracross's Protect causes the attack to bounce off the magical boundary harmlessly! Rook used Worry Seed! Rook's attack missed!

Floofy is hurt by its poison! Floofy takes 2 damage.

Action 2:

This action, Floofy leaps off of the ground and into the air! He flutters toward Rook in order to try to cross the gap and get in range for a powerful attack.

Unfortunately for Floofy, Rook has other plans. Despite Sand Tomb being a Ground-type move, it is a whirlwind of sand, and thus affects levitating and flying Pokemon all the same! Rook whips up the sand around his form and flings the swirling and quite massive tornado toward the location of Heracross! The attack moves slowly, but connects with Floofy successfully! Rook used Sand Tomb! It's not very effective... Floofy takes 6 damage! Floofy became trapped!

Floofy is hurt by its poison! Floofy takes 2 damage.
Floofy is hurt by Sand Tomb! Floofy takes 2 damage.

Action 3:

Heracross is currently stuck inside of a whirlwind of sand, and because he was flying at the time, is being flung around inside and is unable to control his actions! He tries to lurch and attack that damned Rook, but can't break free from the trap! Floofy used Megahorn! But it failed!

Rook takes care to use attacks that are both weak enough and that don't require much energy so that he can continue focusing on maintaining his whirlwind of sand! Rook used Mega Drain! It's not very effective... Floofy takes 5 damage! Rook was healed 3 HP!

Floofy is hurt by its poison! Floofy takes 2 damage.

That went well.

Cancel the sandstorm out by doing a spinning Swords Dancing in the opposite direction! If you're freed, Megahorn ~ Megahorn, and if not, Protect / chill if he doesn't attack ~ chill / Counter if he uses a physical attack.

If he ever breaks his focus stop what you're doing and Megahorn him.

Alright Rook, you've done some excellent work.

Start by using Worry Seed again. That Base Attack power Boost is more important than stage boosts. Heracross might also find it difficult to focus once he's insomniac! After that continue by using Sand Tomb, either refreshing the existing one or starting a new one. Heracross's orders are a bit mangled. Good thing Sand Tomb is a physical attack, and a fairly weak one at that. Finish the round with Razor Leaf to strike from a distance and hopefully confuse Heracross' orders some more. Especially since Razor Leaf is such a different attack to prepare for!

If your Sand Tomb on the second action fails, use Sand Tomb on your third action.

Worry Seed ~ Sand Tomb ~ Razor Leaf

If Sand Tomb (2nd action) fails, Sand Tomb (3rd action)

Arena Effects:

  • Drizzle and Snow Warning cannot be activated.
  • The moves Rain Dance and Hail will fail when used.
Action 1:

Heracross, still twirling in the raging vortex, focuses himself and aligns his wings to perform a powerful maneuver. Channeling his energy, he uses the power of a dance of blades instead of boosting his Attack fully to break the whirlwind just long enough for him to fall out of it! Floofy used Swords Dance! Floofy is no longer trapped! Floofy's Attack was raised!

Floofy stumbles to the ground after the sandy tomb dissipates, but he's glad to be free of it. Just as he looks up from down on his knees to figure out where the blasted Turtwig is, Rook sends a wicked seed in his direction that plants itself on him! The attack converts his ability to Insomnia, and suddenly all of Heracross's guts seem to have drained from him! Rook used Worry Seed! Floofy's ability became Insomnia!

Floofy is hurt by its poison! Floofy takes 2 damage.

Action 2:

Heracross, frustrated by the attack, bum rushes the hell out of Rook. He charges, closes the gap, and plants his horn underneath Rook all in one swift motion. Rook scrambles to get away, but can't move quick enough! Heracross flings Rook overhead, and he comes crashing down with a painful thud many meters away. Floofy used Megahorn! It's super effective! Rook takes 29 damage!

Rook rolls over from the fierce hit and spins toward the Heracross. Before Floofy can advance again for a second hit, Rook whirls up another sandstorm trap and throws it in Floofy's general direction. The attack sweeps Heracross's side and barely connects, but was centered well enough that it sucks Floofy into it and traps it! Rook used Sand Tomb! It's not very effective... Floofy takes 6 damage! Floofy became trapped!

Floofy is hurt by its poison! Floofy takes 2 damage.
Floofy is hurt by Sand Tomb! Floofy takes 2 damage.

Action 3:

Heracross tries really hard to remember his trainer's orders. Was it Counter? Or Megahorn? Or was he supposed to Chill? He can't actually remember because he was given too many substitute actions, so he picks one of them at random! Floofy is confused by too many substitute actions! Floofy attempted Megahorn! But it failed!

Floofy ended up trying a Megahorn, but was still caught up in the sandy whirlwind, and so the attack couldn't reach Rook! Rook, taking advantage of the newly formed whirlwind, sends a razor leaf spinning at the trapped Heracross with a slight whip of its head! Rook used Razor Leaf! It's not very effective... Floofy takes 7 damage!

Alright Will Powers, Chew Toshio and Rook prepared your lunch for you.

If Heracross tries to Protect against your Dragon Tail, Chill, then use Dragon Tail as your final attack.

  • Drizzle and Snow Warning cannot be activated.
  • The moves Rain Dance and Hail will fail when used.
Action 1:

The trainer with the Turtwig decides to step out and lead with another switch! Rook is called back, and out goes Will Powers for another round. Floofy, the Heracross, was trapped for the switch and so couldn't be switched out. However, now that the switch has occured, Rook's Sand Tomb immediately lets up! Floofy is no longer trapped!

The Heracross lands once again on the ground, this time on his butt gracelessly. As he rights himself, he can't help but notice that there is an enormous metal snake before him! He hears his trainer's firm orders, nods, and rushes the behemoth! With a punch and a kick and a horn-whack, he assaults the beast! The attack strikes incredibly hard against the off-guard Steelix! Floofy used Close Combat! It's super effective! A critical hit! Sturdy activated! Will Powers takes 23 damage! Floofy's Defense fell! Floofy's Special Defense fell!

After sustaining the series of blows, Steelix shrugs off the beastly attack and leaps forward to rend the Heracross with a flaming crunch! Will Powers used Fire Fang! It's super effective! Floofy takes 14 damage!

Floofy is hurt by its poison! Floofy takes 2 damage.

Action 2:

Heracross, miffed from the last attack, swings a backhand at the Steelix's metallic body between the joints, trying to do some lasting damage! Floofy used Brick Break! It's super effective! Sturdy activated! Will Powers takes 12 damage!

Will Powers wheels around from the attack and whiplashes its gargantuan metal tail at the Heracross's form. It connects with the bug and slaps it totally silly, wiping away all of its stat changes! Will Powers used Dragon Tail! Floofy takes 9 damage! Floofy's stat changes were nullified!

Floofy is hurt by its poison! Floofy takes 2 damage.

Action 3:

Heracross teeters a bit, but pulls itself together to assault Will Powers one more time. He rampages at the Steelix, but can't seem to hit it nearly as hard as he did with his last assault! Floofy used Close Combat! It's super effective! Sturdy activated! Will Powers takes 17 damage! Floofy's Defense fell! Floofy's Special Defense fell!

Steelix takes the blow in stride and continues his assault. He chomps Heracross one more time with flaming jaw! Will Powers used Fire Fang! It's super effective! Floofy takes 14 damage!

Floofy teeters after the last bite, the attack having done more damage than he was anticipating. As he teeters, instead of being sent back to his Poke Ball by Dragon Tail, he instead collapses into a heap on the floor, clearly knocked out by the blow! Floofy fainted! Will Powers gains one KO counter!

This seems like a good turn of events, Will Powers.

Poliwhirl can generate its own Water, so lets see if we can dry the field out a little bit.

  • Drizzle and Snow Warning cannot be activated.
  • The moves Rain Dance and Hail will fail when used.
Action 1:

The trainer replaces his fallen Heracross with his Poliwhirl! A bold move, considering that Steelix is very strong against physical attacks! Perhaps he has a plan, though?

Buff, the Poliwhirl, leaps out of his Poke Ball and—OW! Those rocks are really beating him up! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Buff! Buff takes 12 damage!

After recovering from the Stealth Rock, Buff surveys the Steelix. He's pretty weak, all things considered, and so Buff rushes it and generates a mighty wake of water with which he charges and smashes into the steel snake! Buff used Waterfall! It's super effective! Sturdy activated! Will Powers takes 8 damage!

Will Powers shakes off the watery blow, backs off from the battle a bit, and chills out to recover some of its energy. Will Powers chilled out! Will Powers regained 12% energy!

Action 2:

Buff is shocked at how little damage his watery attack dealt to the metal snake, and so reverse chops at the Steelix in hope that maybe it will strike a little deeper! Buff used Brick Break! It's super effective! Sturdy activated! Will Powers takes 4 damage!

Will Powers, still not particularly phased by the onslaught, begins whirling together a mighty sandstorm about the area. All of the sand in the crater kicks up and typhoon winds whirl about, sending tiny glass-like shards cutting across Buff's flesh! Will Powers used sandstorm! Will Powers whipped up a sandstorm!

Buff was buffeted by the sandstorm! Buff takes 2 damage.

Action 3:

Once more, Buff lashes out at the Steelix with a mighty crashing wave of generated water! He can't seem to figure out why the attacks are doing so little damage, but he's determined to put this damned Pokemon down no matter what! Buff used Waterfall! It's super effective! Sturdy activated! Will Powers takes 8 damage!

Will Powers is now satisfied with his setup, and so opens its gaping maw and clamps down on the Poliwhirl. As he chomps down, electricity bolts through his teeth and into the poor Poliwhirl, inflicting paralysis on the unsuspecting victim! Will Powers used Thunder Fang! It's super effective! Buff takes 13 damage! Buff was paralyzed!

More excellent work, Will Powers. You've definitely earned your keep.

Begin with a Dragon Tail to switch your opponents up. Even if Buff can finish you this round, one of its friends will take some hazard damage.

Round out your assault with another Thunder Fang, and finish up with Earthquake.

Dragon Tail ~ Thunder Fang ~ Earthquake

If Buff manages to flinch you on the first action, Bind it with the middle of your body on the second action to take away its mobility and use Thunder Fang again.
