Cresselia

[Overview]

  • Very bulky on both sides, has 120 Defense and 130 Special Defense
  • Instant recovery with Moonlight, takes a very long time for a Pokemon to take down
  • With no Scizor and Tyranitar in the UU tier, it excels and handles other threats very well
  • With it's ability levitate it gives it a turn to switch out and take the common ground move
  • Has the ability to abuse Dual screen to a very high extent
[SET]
Name: Support
move 1: Reflect
move 2: Moonlight / Rest
move 3: Psychic / Ice Beam
move 4: Thunder Wave
item: Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Able to set up screens, as it's bulk will help it heal up easily
  • Reflect halves any physical attack which makes it a strong wall already with the defense it carries
  • Thunder Wave cripples any sweeper or Pokemon that's willing to set-up on Cresselia
  • Psychic is a great STAB move which inflicts quite some damage onto Poison and fighting types
  • Ice beam is also a great option to have an effect on crippling popular flying types
  • Moonlight is a great utility that Cresselia has access to, able to heal it's health by 50% not under any weather which is a nice plus in the UU metagame
  • Rest is also a fine option to Cresselia but the 2 turn reset, means that there can be a many turns wasted
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

  • Psychic is great to have over Ice Beam since it provides a strong STAB for Cresselia which can help it since Cresselia doesn't have that great of a base Special Attack
  • Toxic is an option you can carry for this set, since Cresselia bulk has the ability to stall a Pokemon, but isn't recommended since Thunder Wave provides more of a team support with paralysis and the speed cut to help Cresselia out
  • Psyshock can be used over Psychic just to provide more damage on the physical side, but not recommended since Cresselia will want to hit a physically defensive Pokemon, making Psychic a better option

[SET]
name: RestTalk
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Rest
move 3: Sleep Talk
move 4: Psychic / Ice Beam
item: Leftovers
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

I'm so nice i'll do one for you.

[SET]
name: CroCress
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Rest
move 3: Sleep Talk
move 4: Psychic / Ice Beam
item: Leftovers
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

Sets up in the face of Chansey. Rid the field of Dark types and rip through everything with +6 Psychics or Ice Beams. Actually viable in UU due to lack of Tyranitar and Scizor. (Also Reuniclus outclasses it in OU)

Alright I have support down, I'll definitely do CroCress / Calm Mind and Dual screen, is there any other set that someone thinks I should do?

no Psycho Shift + Flame Orb is strictly outclassed by Sigilyph and will only get an OO mention.

Also, don't name the RestTalk set CroCress please for the love of god. The only RestTalker that will ever be name Cro anything is CroCune.

Alright alright, will do.

I've had decent success with rest / sleep talk / psycho shift. It's not the most reliable strategy ever, but a pseudo sleep move/double status set might deserve an OO mention.

The problem is, though you're keeping the Pokemon safe from more crippling status, the 12% HP loss every turn is very counter-productive, especially considering they are usually bulking or being used for stall. The goal is to preserve your health as much as possible. I've used the Flame Orb in similar situations as well, and it just never goes well (or performs rather unremarkably).

Wanted to "report" that I'm using a Calm Mind set (with an unorthodoxed Ev spread however), and it's doing all right I suppose. Need to tune it up.

I'm also pretty sure Dual Screens is still viable on Cresselia. So damn easy to get them up. I never used Lunar Dance on my sets last gen, but that's one thing to set it apart from others, I suppose. Throw that in unless the QC team is against it.

I can't tell when you say that you'll do "Crocress / Calm Mind" if you're talking about two sets or one, but if you're making a distinction (or even if you're not) I've used Sub CM Cress a lot this gen so I'll weigh in. I have to point out that I'm editing the EV's from what I actually used and I'll explain why:

Sub CM
Cresselia@Leftovers
92 HP / 40 Def / 252 SpA / 124 Spe Modest
Calm Mind
Substitute
Psycho Shock
Signal Beam

The HP EV's reach 404 HP so you can make 101 HP subs, the speed reaches 237 to outspeed no investment base 100's, then SpA is maxed out and the leftover EV's put into Def. When I ran this I actually used a lot more speed and less SpA (no Def) but tbh I'm having trouble thinking of anything you need more speed for, so correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also quite sure people will have other ideas for coverage moves, but Signal Beam served me very well when I used it.

This can break open stall much like the Resttalk version, but it poses much more of an immediate threat, which a lot of balanced teams will appreciate.

I'm using a similar set, but you don't need that much Speed Evs. I'm using 16 and it outspeeds enough. Anyone who has a base stat of 100 usually doesn't run a set without good Speed investment. Invest more into Defense.

In the support set, you run max Def and REflect. wouldn't it be better to run max Def and light screen or the other way around? Or just dual screens
