Pidgey

QC Approved [2/2]
(Nails, Skynet)
GP Approved [2/2] (elDino, Zystral)

[Overview]

Pidgey is the beloved Normal / Flying-type Pokemon introduced in RBY. Since then, lots of competition has been introduced, but our little bird friend still packs quite a punch, allowing it to fill a solid niche on almost any team. Pidgey reaches a Speed stat of 16 in Little Cup, which allows it to outspeed most of the Little Cup metagame. With a great STAB move in the form of Brave Bird, and a respectable Attack stat of 14, Pidgey has enough speed and power to be respectable member of any team.

[SET]
name: Choice
move 1: Brave Bird
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Faint Attack / Pursuit
move 4: Frustration / Steel Wing
item: Choice Scarf / Choice Band
ability: Keen Eye
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 228 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

It's no secret that Pidgey doesn't have much at it's disposal, but it can manage to pull off a respectable attacker set. Choice Scarf is the preferred option here, as it allows Pidgey to act as your team's revenge killer. After the boost, Pidgey hits a Speed stat of 24, meaning that it outruns every non-boosted Pokemon in Little Cup, as well as a number that are boosted. Brave Bird allows Pidgey to hit pretty hard, even with no Attack boost and this means that Pidgey is a fantastic check to Scraggy, as well as other Fighting-types. U-turn is on the set as it helps to keep up the offensive momentum during the battle. Faint Attack is used to hit Ghost-type Pokemon respectably well without suffering recoil damage. Frustration gives good neutral coverage, while being a strong move without recoil.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Pursuit is a suitable option over Faint Attack as it allows Pidgey to trap and KO fleeing Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokemon. Steel Wing can be used over Frustration to help with coverage a bit, but Pidgey loses out on the raw power of Frustration in exchange for minor coverage. Ferroseed makes a good partner to Pidgey as it can handle any super effective move aimed at Pidgey. Fighting-type Pokemon such as Scraggy or Timburr that can deal with Steel- and Rock-type Pokemon will make it a lot easier for Pidgey to deal damage to the opponent's team.

[Other Options]

Other Options? Pidgey doesn't really have many. Pidgey does have a few interesting special attacks, but its abysmal Special Attack stat means it can't make much use of them. Pidgey also gets Featherdance and Roost, but Pidgey's terrible defenses makes it difficult to use these moves effectively as well.

[Checks and Counters]

Basically any Steel-type Pokemon walls Pidgey, such as Bronzor or Magnemite. Most Rock-type Pokemon, such as Onix or Geodude, can handle Pidgey, although they must beware of taking repeated Steel Wings, as this will wear them down. Physical walls such as Slowpoke and Gligar are able to take almost any hit, while they can then recover away the damage with Slack Off and Roost respectively.

I don't think so, I think Pidgey is just another alternative to every other Flying-type Pokemon in Little Cup at the moment.

Pidgey reaches a good Speed stat of 16 in Little Cup which allows it to outspeed or tie quite a bit a large portion of the metagame and tie with a good portion of the rest. With a great STAB move in the form of Brave Bird, and a respectable 14 Attack stat, Pidgey has enough speed and power to be a gimmicky and useful part of your team.
[Gimmicky and useful don't seem to go together particularly well. Which is it?]

It's no secret that Pidgey doesn't have much many options at it's its disposal, but it can manage to pull off a respectable choice set. Choice Scarf is the preferred option here as it allows Pidgey to act as your team's revenge killer, hitting 24 Speed with Jolly. and Choice Scarf means Pidgey now outruns every non-boosted Pokemon in Little Cup, as well as a number that are boosted. Brave Bird lets Pidgey hit pretty hard for no attack boost and can check Scraggy as it attempts to Set set up,. It can alsoalong with revenge killing any other Fighting-types Pokemon and most other weakened Pokemon that have taken a blow. U-turn helps you keep up the offensive momentum during the battle. Faint Attack is the primary move for hitting Ghost-type Pokemon respectably well without suffering recoil damage. Frustration is another way for Pidgey to hit hard without worrying about the recoil that comes with Brave Bird.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Pursuit is a suitable option over Faint Attack if you switch Pidgey into a Ghost-type Pokemon's Shadow Ball. or something and you You can scare it out with Brave Bird, but instead then KO it with Pursuit as your opponent tries to switch. Steel Wing can be used over Frustration to help with coverage a bit, but Pidgey loses out on some raw power in exchange for minor coverage. [Maybe mention what additional coverage Steel Wing brings to the table.] Ferroseed makes a good partner to Pidgey as it can handle any takes little damage from super effective moves tossed at Pidgey. Most Rock-type Pokemon like Onix or Geodude can handle Pidgey, being but must be weary of Steel Wing. is advised, but even Even then, Pidgey can't do much damage to them. Slowpoke can handle any hit and Slack Off the damage. Gligar can take any hit and Roost off the damage but needs Toxic or another an attack outside of besidesEarthquake to retaliate with.

I don't really see why Pidgey's Special movepool is being ignored when there is a single point of difference between its Attack and Special Attack. We're talking 45 Base vs. 35 Base here.

Pidgey has arguably the best special movepool out of all the normal/flying LC legal Pokemon, with access to Hurricane, Heat Wave, and Hidden Power, and as to what you round it out with you could use Mud-Slap to severely aggravate any switchin that relies on Stone Edge to damage, or U-turn away. Air Slash even synergizes better with Scarf and you won't have to deal with Iron Barbs either. In fact, Pidgey is the only LC eligible Pokemon to learn both Hurricane and Heat Wave, and despite their general lack of synergy, (one performs poorly in Rain, the other in Sun), it certainly hits a lot more than trying to be a bad Doduo or a bad Spearow.

Yes, at the very least put Heat Wave over Faint Attack, Faint Attack sucks horribly.

Pidgey has a lot of other options, which it can use...somewhat less than well. Agility, Featherdance, Whirlwind, Quick Attack, Roost, Tailwind, and Work Up are all sort of viable. Double Edge can go over Return, as Pidgey appreciates the power.

Dream World section? Big PECKS!

This was ok...
You need to work on your wording, as you seem to be having some issues there. Also, you lack commas throughout the analysis.
You should proofread the analysis after it's done, to maintain a good standard of quality.
There needs to be a Dream World section!!!
Otherwise,

Man, this is so funny. The only check that noted that Keen Eye is spelled wrong was the unofficial one.

Oh well, my point was that Keen Eye is spelled wrong. It says Aye in the OP.

Ok, pardon me if I appear stupid here, but I just can't help asking -- why frustration? As opposed to return, I mean.

move 4: Frustration(space)/ Steel Wing
also there is a thread in the fifth generation main forum that says to use return

breh

強いだね
analsyses are for ingame first and PO second. it is far easier to max happiness than to lower it to 0 ingame.

realistically the base value for happiness should be 255 on PO, but that's irrelevant.

Yeah, Return should always be used over Frustration in an analysis, the people on PO can do what they want.

Just a few word switches so it shouldn't be that hard :D
