Chills/recovery status unspecified by either contestant. I'll assume the standard 2 recoveries/5 chills.
Arena: Chartreuse City Gym
The layout of this park-like Gym resembles an abandoned playground; the floor is sand with a rusty merry-go-round quarantined into quadrants sitting in the center of the floor serving as transportation between the west, east, south and north portions of the room.
Lenneth and Laharl sit in the far north of the Gym, waiting for trainers to battle their way through the different ends of the area to activate the switches that cause the carousel to rotate in different directions. In addition, all the Gym trainers and challengers are required to wear surgeon-like Gas Masks as the air in the Gym is terribly contaminated due to the barrels of Skuntank Toxin-Extract located around the interior of the building.

Important Facts:
-The air is poisonous, Poisoning any Pokemon who can be Poisoned as they enter the battle.

-Pokemon with Dry Skin regain 2 HP per action.

-The fumes are highly combustible, and thus Pokemon deal more damage (+3 BP) with Fire attacks, Selfdestruct, and Explosion.

-The ground allows digging, but Earthquakes are prohibited because of the volatile chemicals scattered around the area.
Only Poison Types allowed! (Preferably 2 FE and 2 NFE)

It appears that as the clarifications on CAPASB's gym system draw nearer, we see people building up teams...and inevitably, rivalries have formed. Take the poison gym slot for example-already have Temperantia's twin roleplaying personae started their own gym arena, and it seems a rival for the job, Terrador, has decided to accept their challenge!

Being the only Ice-type candidate, I thankfully don't have to worry about such rivalries.

However, I can most certainly enjoy reffing them-and with a peal of Thunder (thanks to my Magic Guard Krillowatt, Float) I can safely say...we can BEGIN!

Lol, didn't see this was up...

Laharl and Lenneth enter a disc into the Hologram Chamber provided by the Arena Testing Center...

"Wow, Laharl. I never would've thought you could do something useful..."

"Thanks, Lenneth... But, programming this Arena Disc was easy given the tools from the International Gym League. If we manage to become leaders of our own, maybe we could get sponsored to build an actual version of this."

"I'll start this match, brother. Go, Titania!"

The Budew hops out of her Pokeball gleefully and sits patiently on the ground, waiting for her opponent's Pokemon.
But as she sits on the ground she begins to feel... strange. Just then, a bright light escapes from her. Titania is evolving!!

"Woah, that's the first time I've ever seen that happen during a battle..."

The transition from Budew to Roselia gave Titania a grand personality shift. No longer hapless and clumsy, the new Roselia stands proud and eloquently. She seems demure, but in her mind she is already formulating plans for this battle to be a success...

Terrador strode to the battlefield, seemingly confident but full of apprehension. He watched in awe as the battlefield changed into a toxic ruin of what was once a child's paradise. The referee offered Terrador a surgical mask, but he refused; after spending so much time around his own Stunky, Terrador had developed near-complete immunity to such poisons. The fact that there were two Trainers on the other side of the battlefield. Two minds are always better than one... but would two near-identical minds have such an advantage? Terrador sent out Molly the Crobat in response to the foes' Roselia; he knew that a good early matchup would be important.

"All right, Molly! Obviously, I don't want to initiate a Switching Phase. First, I want you to use Fly, dealing damage and keeping that Roselia from doing anything unpleasant. Then, I want you to use Taunt to stop it from pegging you with a Sleep move or Leech Seed! Finally, I want you to Fly again and hurt it even further! Whatever Roselia does, you'll certainly be in the better situation after this round!"

Molly bared its fangs at the plant, and fluttered its wings menacingly. Lenneth and Laharl would certainly be in for a tough fight at this rate...

Only the person who's moving first can initiate a Switch Phase. In that case, the first player switches. The second player has two options: A) don't switch, or B) switch, but be forced to move first. If Player B counterswitches and is forced to move first, this doesn't disrupt the turn order for future rounds.

Mad editz: I was typing this post when you bumped; I just spent awhile on the prose.

"He he, think not, dear trainer that my sister and I are alike. If you do, prepare for a brutal awakening! Titania, make our opponent regret his choice of action! Surround the air around yourself with a Stun Spore (even if you have to get it on yourself) so that when he swoops down to attack, he must run into it! Then, use Extrasensory while he's foolishly taunting you (and hopefully Paralyzed.) Finish with another Extrasensory now that he should be slower than you."

169Crobat_Dream.png

The battle starts off with a seemingly VERY lopsided matchup-a first-evolution mon with a type disadvantage to a third-evolution mon? Easy pickings for Molly the Crobat-one of Terrador's stronger choices.

But wait-it seems that Titania the Budew, Lenneth and Laharl's choice, glowing with vivacity, is rising to the occasion! Glowing white, she begins to grow, head-vines untwisting and blooming, leaf armor forging, etc...evolving into a beautiful Roselia! Despite all the toxins in the air, they remain just as vibrant as any wild specimen.

Molly easily Flies to the top of the arena, ready to avoid anything that comes her way. Not noticing anything, Molly easily swoops down...just as Titania releases a powerful cloud of Stun Spores around her! The spores easily snare Molly and paralyze her right as she hits Titania, although the upper hit certainly isn't good for the Grass-type. Also, Lenneth and Laharl's trick of having Roselia release the spores around her as a cloud certainly wasn't good for Roselia, as despite her Grass-typing, the spores get back on her and paralyze her too.

Now, Molly decides to Taunt Titania over her backfired attack. She tries to blast Molly with Extrasensory power, but her spores send out a neurotoxic shock that not even her Poison type can defend against, paralyzing her fully.

Molly readies her wings to easily Fly above Titania...but it seems as though a similar toxin shock has fully paralyzed her, too! Grinning for revenge, Titania blasts Molly in the back of her brain with Extrasensory power-and in just the right way to score a critical hit!.

Before the round:
Budew evolves into Roselia: 20 energy

Turn 1:
Fly Crit (due to Timid boosting Crobat's accuracy to over 100 on Fly, I made no hit rolls): 6649/10000 (1-625) no crit. Damage: 20, Energy:
Stun Cloud paralysis rate (Roselia): 2932/10000 (1-5000, since I didn't think it made flavor sense for Stun Spore to miss Roselia in this regard, combined with the Grass-type STAB bonus) Paralyzes Roselia
Stun Cloud paralysis rate (Crobat): 1826/10000 (1-8500 [based on Stun Spore's accuracy+Timid nature boost]) paralyzes Crobat

Stun Spore Cloud energy cost: 6+1 (special command)=7
Fly energy cost: 5

Turn 2:

Full paralysis (Crobat): 3315/10000 (1-2500) Can still move.
Full paralysis (Roselia): 1882/10000 (1-2500) Roselia is paralyzed! She can't move!

Taunt energy cost: 10

Turn 3:

Full paralysis (Crobat): 2137/10000 (1-2500) Crobat is paralyzed! She can't move!
Full paralysis (Roselia): 4557/10000 (1-2500) Can still move.
Extrasensory Crit: 456/10000 (1-625) Crits. Damage: 19

Extrasensory energy cost: 6

It seems that it is Lenneth and Laharl's turn to order!

"You've played well, Titania, but let's switch tactics. Lenneth, why don't you give this a shot?"

"I was waiting for you to ask, brother. Go, Goliath! Stomp out our weakened enemies!"

It should be Terrador's turn to switch or not...

Terrador was worried about the results of the last round - without her blistering Speed, would Molly be able to dodge the coming onslaught? Worried for his Crobat, Terrador decided to make a switch.

"Go, Nappa! I choose you!"

Nappa the Gengar popped from its Poke Ball in a burst of red light, levitating over the Nidorino. The battle would surely become hectic from here...

"All right, Nappa! I want you to use Psychic to deal some damage, then Hypnosis to put it to sleep, then Dream Eater to recover the damage you took! If Nidorino uses Sucker Punch on the first action, use Substitute (20 HP) instead!"

(On a side note, I erroneously have Gengar at Rank 2 SpD, when it's actually Rank 3. Sorry.)

"Goliath, show your stuff! Ice Beam your opponent! Try to freeze over the Gengar's eyes! If he can still use Hypnosis, Close your eyes next turn (devoting an entire action should give at least a chance of dodging?). If he can't use Hypnosis from the freeze, use Head Smash. Either way, finish with Sucker Punch!"

Terrador14: Corrected. Additionally, I corrected Gengar's attack-he actually has 65 base attack-hence he has rank 3 attack (trollishly enough.)

Not sure how it hits Poison-types super-effectively, but it's still dealing Nidorino massive damage! Goliath responds by carefully aiming an Ice Beam right between Gengar's eyes-but it fails to freeze Gengar enough to really affect his vision.

Speaking of Gengar's eyes, they're starting to flash and-he's Hypnooooaaaaaaaaaaaaahtizing (man, it's even making ME yawn!) Goliath. His eyes seem to be shut tight-could he be asleep?

Nappa certainly thinks so, as he begins to start probing his target's mind for dreams to ea-

WHOAH, THAT was a wallop! Goliath suddenly opened his eyes, before ramming into Nappa with the surprise factor of a Sucker Punch! Looks like his trainer's order to shut his eyes to Gengar's Hypnosis worked! This time, at least. Nappa tries to find dreams to suck out anyway, but he fails, as Nidorino's conscious mind is too strong for him."

Ice Beam General Freeze (1-1000) Does not freeze.

Turn 2:
Hypnosis Hit (1-7900, [60% chance+19% nature boost]) Hits. Costs 7 energy.

"Worry not, Lenneth. Titania can put the fear of defeat into this ghost!"

"Ooh, good idea. You may actually appear competent if you keep this streak up, brother."

Terrador knew that, with good play, Nappa would easily best the Roselia; he opted to stay in.

"Stay in, Nappa! You've got this!"

"Ok Titania! Let's not let Lenneth down! Start with Stun Spore and follow with an Extrasensory! If Nappa uses Substitute, replace Stun Spore with Giga Drain. Finish with a Sleep Powder!"

Temperantia, your substitutions are illegal. First, you made a Move Substitution...
Temperantia said:

and a Chance Substitution...
Temperantia said:
Finish with a Sleep Powder, unless Gengar's not paralyzed. In that case, use Stun Spore!"

You cannot have both a Move Substitution and a Chance Substitution in the same round; please change your orders accordingly.

Chance Substitution:

For each of their Pokemon, either player may create a substitution based on the success or failure of a previously ordered Attack or Attack effect. This conditional can only be triggered by the success or failure of a previous action, and as such cannot be applied to the first action of a round. A Player acting first can make either an Attack Substitution or a Chance Substitution, but not both.

The round starts off with Laharl sending out Titania the Roselia again, her Natural Cure already refreshing her paralysis away. Unlike the two trainers which compose Temperantia, Terrador does not choose to switch out his Gengar.

Being the happy, possibly game-breaking little ghastly goblinlike ghost that he is, Nappa Taunts Titania, plucking one of her thorns without getting hurt thanks to his Poison-type. While it doesn't deal enough damage to actually harm Roselia (and besides, Natural Cure will make it grow back), the pain definitely annoys her, to the point she can't concentrate on her Stun Spores!

Gengar continues to be a jolly little troll, rapidly knitting up a weak, yet nevertheless magical Substitute with the thorn and his essence. (He may have also used Microsoft Powerpoint, but that's besides the point.) And it works-despite Roselia nabbing Gengar with a super-effective Extrasensory assault, the Substitute survives...and like any good troll, it's with 1 HP.

Roselia's attack is a lost cause-she can't focus hard enough to launch a Sleep Powder and it would fail against the Substitute anyway. Gengar, on the other hand, gets to retaliate with a potent Psychic chuck of Roselia into the sand.

Turn 1:
Gengar uses Taunt. 10 energy.
Roselia tries, but is too annoyed to use Stun Spore. (6 energy.)

Turn 2:
Gengar makes a 15 Hp Substitute. (12 energy.)
Roselia uses Extrasensory!
Crit Roll (1-625) 6996/10000. No crit, 14 damage to Substitute. Costs 6 energy.
(gengar used Trollface!)

Turn 3:
Gengar uses Psychic!
Crit Roll: (1-625) 5355/10000. No crit. 18 damage. Costs 7 energy.
Special Defense Drop roll: (1-1000) 6996/1000. No drop.

Roselia uses Sleep Powder...double fails. Costs 6 energy.

It seems Terrador is up next!

"Considering he would act before you would wake up, I doubt we must worry about his substitution, Titania. Use Extrasensory on Nappa any turn you can act, Roselia!"

For the first time this match it seems, we do not have a switch phase going on! That's good-it lets me ref this faster.

"As Titanita prepares an Extrasensory assault...oh, great, Nappa's using
Hypnooooaaassiiis...and I'm already feeling sleepy. Too angry to shut her eyes, Roselia can only fight thhe hypnooottiiiccc waaaaavvvveeeessss ooooofffffffff eeeeeennnneeerrrrgggggggggggzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

Yeah, Titania falls asleep. A pity, too-she could have broken Gengar's Substitute with merely a pinprick.

While he can't be certain exactly when Titania will wake up, it does seem like her sleep is kind of intense. Nappa, being careful to abuse the old sleep guildelines and not wake her up, tosses her into the carousel with a Psychic, and then with another Psychic, he launches her into a bit of exposed sharp metal for a critical hit! Somehow this doesn't wake her up despite the ludicrous damage it's dealing...but her thorn has just regrown in her sleep, so that's okay with her.

Either way...has Gengar's psychic activities (which have actually been quite energy-intensive) resulted in the carousel...turning? It seems that we're about to see just what the rest of this arena is like..."

Turn 1:
Gengar uses Hypnosis.
Hit roll: Needs 1-7900/10000 to hit. At 2946/10000, it hits.
Intensity roll (the match started before the sleep change): 1-3333/10000 (light) 3334-6666/10000 (deep) 6667-9999/10000 (intense) 10000/10000 (Freaking insane! Chuck Norris comes down and roundhouse kicks you all. Just kidding, this is a reroll.) Rolled a 6807/10000. Intense sleep.

Roselia is fast asleep!

Turn 2:
Gengar used Psychic!
Crit roll: Needs a 1-625/10000 to get a crit. Rolls a 1866/10000. Does not crit. 18 damage, costs 7 energy.
Drop roll: Needs 1-1000/10000 to get a special defense drop. Rolls a 8471/10000. Does not cause a drop.

Roselia is fast asleep!

Turn 3:
Gengar uses Psychic!
Crit roll: Needs a 1-625/10000 to get a crit. Rolls a 130/10000. Life-crit happens. 23 damage, costs 11 energy.
Drop roll: Needs 1-1000/10000 to get a special defense drop. Rolls a 8471/10000. Does not cause a drop.

Roselia is fast asleep! While she dreams, she regrows her thorn, meaning she no longer has a reason to be angry at Gengar. (i.e. Taunt ends.)

It seems Temperantia is up next!

"Good job, Titania, but there's not much we can do now with you in. Let's switch in Mr. Bubbles, Lenneth!"

"Back for more help again as your rose wilts, dear brother? I'll finish this imp off without breaking a sweat!"

"Well, we can crush this disgusting little troll under our bootheels this turn then, Mr. Bubbles. Taunt Gengar your first turn unless he uses Psychic; in that case, use Sucker Punch instead. Then, use Pursuit so he stays close to us. Finish with a Mud Bomb."
