GBU Doubles Sets

Specially Bulky Politoed
Politoed @ Leftovers / Wacan Berry / Iron Ball
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 6 SAtk
IVs: 0 Spd (If Iron Ball is used)
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Encore
- Ice Beam
- Hypnosis
- Scald

  • Politoed can easily set up Rain and survive multiple Specially-based hits.
  • Can annoy the opponent by putting them to sleep with Hypnosis, Encoring Trick Room, or burning the opponent with Scald.
  • Politoed gives an excellent advantage to Swift Swimmers, Rain Dishers, Rain abusers, and water types with its ability, Drizzle.
  • It's bulkyness gives the opponent a hard time to take out Politoed while he/she still has to deal with the Rain abusers Politoed is paired up with
  • Iron Ball can also be an option for Politoed to have absolute weather so you can guarantee rain.

Choice Politoed
Politoed @ Choice Scarf / Choice Specs
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) / Timid Narure (+Spe, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump / Scald / Surf
- Focus Blast / Surf
- Hidden Power [Grass] / [Electric]
- Ice Beam

  • Politoed can set up Rain for its allies and sweep within the Rain as well.
  • It reaches a mediocre 156 SAtk stat at Level 50 but is made up for with its 183 Speed stat with a Choice Scarf, easily outspeeding the Genies and threats such as Starmie.
  • Politoed helps its team out a lot by taking out threats to common Rain abusers that it outspeeds such as the Genies and Starmie as stated previosly
  • Politoed can also run a Choice Specs set to run even more damage than the Scarf set but is substatially lower but definitely a viable option

quiet choice specs set might be worth a mention, but otherwise the other sets are fine

and also do what lucariojr said and mention why you would pick iron ball as a held item

Why run Focus Blast on the Choice set? I think Surf or another Water move in that slot deals with Steels (I guess that's why it's there?), and you don't have the 70% accuracy. Also partnering it with Toxicroak running Surf and Hydro Pump is beneficial so you can Surf and heal Croak if they don't have a Water-immune Mon (Gastrodon, Jellicent, etc), and Hydro Pump something else if they do.

EDIT: aside from hitting Ferro but if you're running Rain you shouldn't be only relying on Politoed to beat it with a 70% accurate move.

Modest Choice Scarf actually speed ties with Starmie and Raikou, not outspeeds. For this reason, a Choice Scarf set is probably better off running Timid, which allows it to outspeed everything up to base 130s like Aerodactyl and Jolteon.
