Exeggcute (Diverse)

I don't like the name, but I can't think of anything better.

So pretty much this set does everything. It is a sweeper, it is a sleeper, it is a staller, all of it. I'm surprised no one else uses this, I have been very successful with it.

[SET]
name: Diverse
move 1: Sleep Powder
move 2: Substitute
move 3: Leaf Storm / Giga Drain
move 4: Psychic
item: Oran Berry
ability: Harvest
nature: Timid
evs: 36 HP / 36 Def / 196 SpA / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

The trait that best warrants Exeggcute's success is its extreme diversity. It isn't diverse in the sense that it can run many sets effectively, but rather that all its best skills are available in one set. With no form of permanent sunlight in Little Cup, Exeggcute can't sweep well enough to be usable. It is outclassed as a physical wall by almost everything out there, including Lileep and Ferroseed. This does, however, leave Exeggcute one set and a few roles it can play exceptionally well without being outclassed.

This set can do quite a few things. Firstly, if it is necessary to temporarily remove a threat from the game so one of Exeggcute's teammates can set up, Sleep Powder is close to the best thing there is. Leaf Storm is another way of doing this, as its sheer power is enough to OHKO some common offensive Pokemon such as Meowth, Chinchou, and Mienfoo. It also allows Exeggcute to counter Staryu, which is a huge threat to stall teams. Diverse Exeggcute works very well on such teams because of the combination of Sleep Powder's ability to cause switches and the egg Pokemon's ability to stall with Substitute, Oran Berry, and Harvest, which has a 50% chance of restoring a used berry. Furthermore, Exeggcute provides resistances crucial to stall teams such as those to Fighting, Water, and Electric. Lastly, Exeggcute uses Psychic as a STAB attack that doesn't lower its Special Attack, and to improve its coverage. It is also useful for Mienfoo that think they can come in and fire off a U-turn unharmed when Exeggcute has already used Leaf Storm.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Once Exeggcute is in safely, it can do all it needs on its own, so teammates aren't as important as they are on other sets. Exeggcute works very well with entry hazards, as it causes many switches. Omanyte is a great teammate because it has nearly perfect synergy with Exeggcute and can set up all forms of entry hazards. Dual Screens are useful, but Exeggcute is still successful without them. Because Exeggcute will be switching in and out a lot, removal of entry hazards will be very helpful; Pokemon that can use Rapid Spin, such as Staryu and Tentacool, which both have great synergy with Exeggcute, are good teammates. The latter can set up Toxic Spikes to aid Exeggcute's stall and check Mienfoo if Exeggcute isn't behind a Substitute, but be wary that Toxic Spikes might interfere with Sleep Powder.

Pokemon that can lure in opponents checked by Exeggcute are good teammates, both offensively and defensively. Houndour is a great example, as it can lure in Croagunk, Timburr, and Staryu for Exeggcute to demolish,. Likewise, it can OHKO Ferroseed and Levitate Bronzor with Fire Blast. Munchlax also lures in Croagunk and Timburr, and it can OHKO Gastly with Zen Headbutt or trap it with Pursuit. It also has Thick Fat to take Fire- and Ice-type hits that Exeggcute are weak to.

aren't you supposed to mention counters in the ac section too?

mention how scraggy's crunch will always OHKO Exeggcute un-boosted.

Research thread
Confirmed Harvest has 50% chance of restoring a used berry at the end of the turn. If conditions for berry use are met the berry will be immediately used, however, and not be restored again in the same round. Does not restore Berry Juice. Will always activate in sunlight. If a Pokemon uses its berry, does not regain the berry from Harvest, switches out, and then switches back in, the game still 'remembers' that the Pokemon had that berry and can regenerate it by Harvest, can regenerate its berry back on the switch(mien, CyzirVisheen, #2, #3, sb879, Pidge, poccil, Shadowfist)

I'm not sure how much this actually affects the Sub+Oran Berry strategy, but it definitely needs mention.

@V0xIt's probably not that big a deal since I can see eggy nabbing a free turn or two with Substitute/Sleep Powder/etc, meaning even if it doesn't restore on one turn, it will likely restore the turn after that and after that. Also, I think Harvest is just an added bonus, the really important part is Sleep Powder and strong attacks.

I'm holding off on stamping this mainly because I haven't really played against it, you used it in one battle against me but it really didn't get the chance to do all that much. I'm going to test it a bit when I get the chance (like today or tomorrow??)

What I would say is this though, since Eggy is so unorthodox, I would focus AC on Pokemon that can help Exeggcute switch in easier. By this I don't mean screens/spinner/etc which you already have, I mean Pokemon that lure in stuff that Exeggcute can switch in on. Like, I don't know, it looks like Timburr and Croagunk are easy switchins, so perhaps Houndour (this probably isn't the best example since I'm just thinking of these off the top of my head) would be a good partner? Houndour maybe isn't the best Pokemon to choose (I wouldn't know!), but I think you get what I mean. But also when you choose Pokemon like that, it would also be nice if they had more defensive synergy, like how Dour can take Fire-type attacks for Exeggcute.

EDIT: Tspikes would kinda turn me off because then you can't abuse Sleep Powder...

EDIT2: OK I have tested this a little and I find it works nicely! Stamp (1/2)

18 Atk vs 15 Def & 23 HP (80 Base Power): 20 - 26 (86.96% - 113.04%)

It's a 74.36% chance.

edit: sorry emma, I originally planned on using the name offensive and forgot to change it...
