QC Checks: 2/2 [Diana] [Aerrow]
GP Checks: 2/2 [Calm Pokemaster] [cosmicexplorer]

[Overview]

Woobat's stat spread is a curious mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly. It has good Speed and decent Special Attack, but its poor defenses do not allow it to stay in for long. It has a good enough movepool to be used effectively, giving it three great STAB attacks in Psychic, Psyshock, and Air Slash. Psychic / Flying typing is not bad either, as it allows Woobat to switch into common Fighting-type attacks without taking much damage. Overall, Woobat is nowhere near being a top-tier threat, but it has some good things going for it which can merit its use on any team.

[SET]
name: Special Sweeper
move 1: Air Slash
move 2: Psychic / Psyshock
move 3: Calm Mind
move 4: Hidden Power Ground
item: Life Orb
ability: Unaware
nature: Timid
evs: 76 HP / 236 SpA / 12 SpD / 180 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Air Slash is a great STAB attack that has a chance of flinching the foe, potentially ruining a sweep. Psychic is Woobat's secondary STAB move, hitting the numerous Fighting-types present in the tier for super effective damage and hits harder than Air Slash. However, Psyshock can be used to deal with specially bulky threats; for example, a +1 LO Psyshock 3HKOes 252 HP / 252 Def Impish Eviolite Munchlax. Calm Mind allows Woobat to boost its stats and attempt a sweep, making it a much bigger threat. Hidden Power Ground covers the Steel-types which resist Woobat's STAB attacks, and also deals 11-13 HP of damage to Chinchou, a guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread maximizes Woobat's Special Attack and Speed, and the rest is put into its HP and Special Defense. A Timid nature allows it to outspeed as many threats as possible. Substitute can be used to block status assist in prediction, but it will be broken with ease due to Woobat's low defenses. Hidden Power Fire is an option to take out Ferroseed, who would otherwise be able to set up Spikes on Woobat with impunity. Unaware nullifies the opponent's boosts, allowing Woobat to check some boosting sweepers to an extent. Chinchou has excellent defensive synergy with Woobat, as it resists Electric- and Ice-type attacks aimed at Woobat, who in turn packs an immunity to the Ground-type attacks which Chinchou is weak to. Timburr makes a great teammate too, as it beats Pawniard, who would otherwise check Woobat with Sucker Punch.

[Other Options]

Woobat can run an Agility set, but Woobat's low damage output makes it a bad choice. A Focus Sash + Endeavor set can be viable, but Stealth Rock makes it useless. Although U-turn can be used to maintain momentum, Stealth Rock prevents Woobat from switching frequently. Energy Ball provides additional coverage on Rock- and Ground-types while still 2HKOing Chinchou, but Steel-types will then wall Woobat cold. A Choice Specs set may sound like a good idea, but even Air Slash does not OHKO Eviolite Scraggy without Stealth Rock. Woobat can also run an Eviolite set that can wall Fighting-types, but Scraggy will walk all over it with STAB Crunch. Finally, Charge Beam hits Water-types for super effective damage and has a chance of raising Woobat's Special Attack by one level, but Psychic or Air Slash will usually inflict more damage.

[Checks and Counters]

Woobat's poor defenses allow most fast attackers with a super effective attack to KO it with ease. Pawniard checks Woobat all day, as its Sucker Punch will easily deal massive damage or OHKO. Scraggy is a good check too, but Air Slash hits it hard, and the flinch chance is always threatening. Unaware will render setting up with Dragon Dance useless as well. Choice Scarf Chinchou outspeeds and KOes Woobat with STAB Thunderbolt, but must watch out for Hidden Power Ground. Similarly, Choice Scarf Snover also checks Woobat with STAB Blizzard, but will take massive damage from Air Slash. Houndour can freely switch into Woobat's STAB Psychic-type attacks and proceed to destroy it with Sucker Punch or Dark Pulse. Lastly, Munchlax, with its immense special bulk, can absorb almost all of Woobat's attacks with ease while having an 80% chance to OHKO with Return.

[Dream World]

Simple is a very good ability, as it doubles the effects of stat-raising moves. Paired with Calm Mind, Woobat can be a big threat, as it can double its Special Attack and Special Defense with just a single turn of setup.

Nah, Psychic lowers SpD by 1 stage.

Aren't you supposed to have a DW section (not sure how you guys roll here in LC land, but I'm pretty sure it's the same)? Simple + Calm Mind or Charge Beam.

Yes, add a Dream World section. Simple + Calm Mind is awesome...

Also, Woobat is not a "worse" Natu. Imo, its ability gives it a different niche. If Woobat had Magic Mirrors, then you could say it's a worse Natu. I think with Choice Specs it can be a decent Scraggy check. Switch in on the DD, outspeed and OHKO with Air Slash (Unless Specs Air Slash doesn't even OHKO Evio Scraggy... if it doesn't, then Woobat sucks). Natu can't do that, can it?!

That's just my opinion though :x

maybe slash / mention sub to block status and to ease prediction. It also gets stored power, knock off, roost, thunderwave, psych up, tuant and hidden powerfire should get a mention for ferroseed. Thats all I have so far

Muchlax should be in checks and coutors since it takes nothing from your attacks even boosted and body slams / pursuits you.

Modest Specs Air Slash actually comes quite close to reliably OHKOing Scraggy. It does not do so all the time, but it is actually able to do so. With prior damage (3 HP), it is guaranteed to die. Definitely a cool niche.

in the last spot is Hidden Power Ground, which deals 11-13 damage (33% chance of 2HKOing)

What exactly are you trying to hit here?

Otherwise this looks fine, answer that and I'll probably stamp.

No Eviolite set? Unaware Roost is pretty trolly. Taunt/Toxic/Roost/Air Slash dicks around with fighting-types.

-Choice Specs set sounds like a good idea, but an Air Slash does not OHKO an Eviolite Scraggy with 36 Def EVs
*SpD

[Other Options]
-has Calm Mind and Agility, but does not have good defenses to abuse these moves
-a Focus Sash + Endeavor set could be viable
-gets many support moves
-U-Turn and Energy Ball
-Choice Specs set sounds like a good idea, but an Air Slash does not OHKO an Eviolite Scraggy with 36 Def EVs
-Stored Power, Knock Off, Roost, Thunder Wave, Psych Up, Taunt
redundant

Why would you ever use Charge Beam over Calm Mind? 50 BP is horrible, it's accuracy is meh, and relying on a 50% chance to boost is a bad idea. Psychic does more vs Waters anyway. You can set up against choiced fighting attacks, which are in no short supply thanks to Scraggy breaking LC.

I bet +1 STAB LO Psyshock dents Munchlax.

-in the last spot is Hidden Power Ground, which deals 11-13 damage (33% chance of 2HKOing) Chinchou
Fixed.

-Life Orb set could be used, as a +1 LO Psyshock deals 13-15 damage to max HP and Defense Impish Munchlax with an Eviolite (guaranteed 3HKO)
Uh, the only listed set IS a LO set.

Does anyone actually use max HP / max Def Impish Munchlax? I thought the standard was 236 HP / 236 Atk, no?

You also forgot Calm Mind over Charge Beam.

Yeah actually mention on there that Hidden Power Ground is for Chinchou.

Really Darkamber's changes should be implemented, just move Charge Beam down to Other Options.

-has Calm Mind and Agility, but does not have good defenses to abuse these moves

Well I think the main issue is that Agility isn't going to hit hard enough, and Calm Mind actually makes sense to use...

-Scraggy is a good counter, but Woobat's ability will nullify the effects of Dragon Dance

Scraggy's a check at best because I can't see it liking to take a chance against Air Slash possibly flinching.

Also one last thing: it's spelled Psyshock.

11-13 damage (33% chance of 2HKOing) to Chinchou
I'd like to point out this is a 100% chance with SR.

+1 LO HP Ground also does 53.8% - 69.2% vs 26/23 Eviolite Chinchou, which I'm fairly sure is the standard for Eviolite Chou. That's a 2HKO, and Thunderbolt only does 69.2% - 92.3% off 68 SpA evs and a neutral nature vs +1 SpD, also standard, which means you always survive if no prior damage has been taken.

Just saying.

[Overview]

Woobat has a mixture when it comes to its stats Woobat's stat spread is a curious mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly. It has more than decent a good Speed and decent Special Attack, which is good to know, but has very bad its poor defenses, so it will not be able to do not allow it to stay in for long. It has also received enough of a movepool to effectively be used effectively, and has access to giving it three great STAB attacks in Psychic, Psyshock, and Air Slash. It has a great Psychic / Flying typing is not bad either, as it allows can Woobat to switch into Fighting-type attacks and take very little damage without taking much damage. Overall, Woobat is nowhere near being a great Little Cup Pokemon top-tier threat, but it has some good things going for it which merit its use on any team.

Air Slash is a great STAB attack that has a chance of causing flinching the foe, potentially ruining a Pokemon's sweep. Psychic is another STAB attack that has a chance of lowering the opponent's Special Defense by one stage, which will make Woobat's attacks deal more damage Psychic is Woobat's secondary STAB move, hitting the numerous Fighting-types present in the tier for super effective damage. However, Psyshock could be used, depending on the opponent's Defense and Special Defense stats can be used to deal with physically bulky threats; and a +1 LO Psyshock deals 13-15 damage to 3HKOes max HP and / max Def Impish Eviolite Munchlax with an Eviolite, which is a guaranteed 3HKO. Calm Mind raises Woobat's SpA and SpD by one level, which makes it a much bigger threat allows Woobat to boost its stats and attempt a sweep, making it a much bigger threat. [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread maximizes Woobat's most important stats in this set; its Special Attack and Speed, and the rest is put into its HP and Special Defense. A Timid nature allows it to outspeed as many threats as possible. It could use Substitute can be used to block status and out-predict the opponent, but it will be broken with ease. Hidden Power Fire is an option to counter Ferroseed, who would otherwise be able to set up Spikes on the bat Woobat. Unaware is Woobat's best ability to have, as it nullifies the opponent's boosts, which is very useful to it allowing Woobat to check some boosting sweepers to an extent. Chinchou would be a good partner has excellent defensive synergy with Woobat, as it resists Electric- and Ice-type attacks aimed at Woobat, which in turn packs an immunity to the Ground-type attacks which Chinchou is weak to. Timburr makes a great teammate too, as it beats Pawniard, who would otherwise counter Woobat with its Sucker Punch.

[Other Options]

Woobat is able to learn Agility, but then Woobat still wouldn't be able to inflict much damage to its opponent can run an Agility set, but the low damage output of this set makes it a bad choice. A Focus Sash + Endeavor set could be viable, but Stealth Rock would interfere with its plans. Though U-turn and Energy Ball are two effective moves that could be opted to use can be used to maintain momentum, Stealth Rock prevents Woobat from switching frequently. Energy Ball provides additional coverage on Rock- and Ground-types while still 2HKOing Chinchou, but Steel-types will now wall Woobat cold. A Choice Specs set sounds like a good idea, but even an Air Slash does not OHKO an Eviolite Scraggy without Stealth Rock. It Woobat can also run an Eviolite set that can wall Fighting-types, but it still must watch out for Scraggy's Crunch attack Scraggy will walk all over it with STAB Crunch. Finally, Charge Beam hits Water-types for super effective damage and has a chance of raising Woobat's Special Attack stat by one level, but Psychic or Air Slash would usually inflict more damage.

[Checks and Counters]

Woobat's poor defenses allow most fast attackers with a super effective attack to KO it with ease. Pawniard is a good check to checksWoobat all day, as its Sucker Punch will deal major massive damage to it if not OHKO. Scraggy is a good counter check too, but it wouldn't like to be get flinched from by Air Slash, and its Dragon Dance will have no effect due to Unaware will render setting up with Dragon Dance useless as well. Choice Scarf Chinchou counters outspeeds and KOes Woobat with its STAB Thunderbolt, but it must watch out for entry hazards and its Hidden Power Ground. Similarly, Choice Scarf Snover also checks Woobat with its STAB Blizzard, but will take massive damage from Air Slash. Houndour can freely switch into Woobat's STAB Psychic-type attacks and proceed to destroy it with Sucker Punch or Dark Pulse. Lastly, Munchlax with its immense special bulk can absorb all of Woobat's attacks with ease while having an 80% chance to OHKO with Return. Houndour can use either Sucker Punch or Dark Pulse, as its defenses are lacking. Munchlax counters Woobat with its ability to sponge its attacks and has an 80% chance of OHKOing Woobat with a STAB Return.

[Dream World]

Simple is a very good ability, as it doubles the effects of stat-raising moves. Paired with Calm Mind, Woobat can be a big threat, with +2 in Special Attack and Special Defense in one move as it can double its Special Attack and Special Defense with just a single turn of setup.
