Ready for GP checks!

QC 2/2 Solace, Huy
GP 2/2 Sirndpt, Sandshrew
Skeleton is in the hide tab!
[Overview]
 • Incredible defenses bolstered further by Eviolite on both sides of the spectrum make this cyber duck take even Super Effective hits.
 • 2 wonderful abilities that enable it to wall things better or increase its damage output.
 • Very diverse movepool that includes the coveted Recover.
 • Somwhat slow, Special Attack is pretty mediocre enabling bulky things to set up on it.
 • Possibly the largest bait for Whimsicott and Imprison + Trick Room pokemon.
 • If it is TAUNTed, it has officially become worthless.
[SET]
name: Trick Room Support
move 1: Trick Room
move 2: Ice Beam / Tri Attack
move 3: Recover
move 4: Protect / Magic Coat
item: Eviolite
nature: Relaxed
ability: Trace/ Download
evs: 252 hp/ 252 Def/ 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Porygon2 has the ability to utilize it's fanatastic bulk with it's mediocre Special Attack to support a team With Trick Room.
 • Unlike most pokemon it gets the ability to restore its health in the form of recover.
 • It gets Ice beam for coverage enabling it to hit many threats neutrally and certain threats that try TAUNTING it like Thundurus, Tornadus, Whimsicott, it should be made notice though that Porygon2 will struggle regardless at harming Pokemon weak to these attacks even with maximum investment. Tri Attack is a good reliable form of STAB that hits many pokemon neutrally, but leaves you at the mercy of Ghosts.
 • The last move is dependent on team choice. Protect stalls, prevents you from being hurt and is an overall great move. Magic Coat is Porygon2's only way of avoiding an encore from Whimsicott and not be forced to continuously twist dimensions. It also lets it stop TAUNT users by by reflecting TAUNT.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • VERY LARGE TAUNT BAIT, TAUNT HAS BEEN IN CAPS FOR A REASON.
 • It's partners need a way to quickly dispose of or delay pokemon that stop Trick Room, such as Whimsicott and Imprison Chandelure.
 • Tracing Swift Swim, Wonder Guard, Storm Drain, and other abilities can make this duck hard to stop, but its attacks quite literally tickle things like Bronzong if it doesn't get that Download boost.
 • Should only be used as a Trick Roomer that can take A LOT more then one hit and still get rooms up
 • A Physically defensive set of 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpD or Specially Defensive set of 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Def can be used to take Surfs or Earthquakes much more easily.
 • An additional electric-type attack can be run in the 4th moveslot like Discharge or Thunderbolt for near perfect coverage but it generally is not reccomended as Porygon2 is then removed of all insurance it has against TAUNT users.

[Other Options]
 • Icy Wind goes through taunt and still slows speed! Although its rather weak and its quite a boon to Trick Room teams.
 • Porygon-2 makes for a great Gravity supporter.
 • Rain Dance and Sunny Day are also easily set-up by this thing thanks to its very respectable bulk.
 • Toxic and Thunder Wave combined with great bulk are quite easy to spread.
 • Analytic IS ACTUALLY RELIABLE, unlike Trace and Download, you ALWAYS benefit from it due to his slow speed, but the chances of not scoring a big benefit with Trace and Download are low
[Checks and Counters]
 • Hariyama hits this duck hard with STAB Super Effective Guts Boosted Close Combats. It can use fake out to further delay Trick Room set-up.
 • Anti-Trick Room Chandelure makes Porygon-2 cry as it fails to perform its crucial role of setting up Trick Room because of its haunted presence, not even magic coat will stop it.
 • Virtually anything with Taunt.
 • Whimsicott's priority encores haunt Porygon-2 into the thought of being locked into a duck that can only distort the dimensions.
 • Analytic is usable since it it's reliable, Download might be dead weight and Trace gives you something like Truant o.o, chances of both of the former cases happening are terrible and the Analytic boost isn't making his pretty weak Special Attack perform MIRACULOUS 2HKOes that Download can do.

[Overview]

With good overall bulk further boosted by Eviolite, an expansive support movepool, and access to the coveted Recover, one may question why Porygon2 is not a more commonly seen Pokemon in the VGC metagame. The answer is simple: Porygon2's lack of a good Special Attack stat and reliance on Eviolite make it quite possibly the biggest Taunt bait in the metagame. While Magic Coat may help to assuage this significant problem, it does not spare Porygon2 from the wrath of Pokemon bearing Imprison, which hinders its usefulness even more. Porygon2's Speed also leaves much to be desired, which means it is only really useful as a Trick Room supporter. Regardless of these shortcomings, Porygon2 should not be overlooked as an option when searching for a bulky Trick Room user. Give Porygon2 a try, and you will be assured of distorted dimensions and a duck that refuses to faint.

[SET]
name: Trick Room Support
move 1: Trick Room
move 2: Ice Beam / Tri Attack
move 3: Recover
move 4: Protect / Magic Coat
item: Eviolite
ability: Trace / Download
nature: Relaxed
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

One of the ways of stopping an enemy from setting up Trick Room is to kill it. Porygon2's immense defenses eliminate the chances of it fainting quickly, enabling it to successfully set up Trick Room for the team. Trick Room is the crux of the set, giving Porygon2's slow partners the upper hand by allowing them to move first. Tri Attack is Porygon2's only usable special STAB attack and can dent the opposition should Porygon2 be Taunted, as well as soften enemies for Porygon2's partners. Ice Beam, however, hits most common Taunt users, namely Thundurus, Tornadus, Whimsicott, and Murkrow, for super effective damage, and hence may be more useful if you wish to prevent Porygon2 from being Taunted. Recover is what separates Porygon2 from the many other bulky Trick Room users, as it gives Porygon2 a reliable way of restoring 50% of its health. Protect is overall a great move in doubles, as it shields Porygon2 from attacks, scouts the enemy, and stalls turns. Lastly, Magic Coat allows Porygon2 to take advantage of the fact that it is an enormous Taunt bait, and reflect Taunt back at the opposition.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Porygon2 attracts Taunts like how a flame attracts moths; this issue must therefore be dealt with. Fake Out support is the traditional way of stopping Taunt, and buys Porygon2 time to set up Trick Room. Porygon2's sky-high defenses, combined with access to a reliable recovery move, make it very hard to take down mid- and late-game. However, one must be careful to make best use of Porygon2's niche as a Trick Room user. Porygon2's vulnerability to both Taunt and Fake Out often make it a poor choice if you are using it to lead and set up Trick Room. In that role, it is far outclassed by the likes of Dusknoir and Dusclops, both of whom have good defenses, while also being immune to Fake Out.

Porygon2 has two great abilities to choose from: Download and Trace. Trace allows Porygon2 to copy the opponent's ability, which can be game-changing. For example, if Porygon2 traces Bronzong's or Cresselia's Levitate, it will further delay, if not prevent its death in battle. However, there are times where Porygon2 might Trace something useless or even detrimental to itself, such as Speed Boost. To insure some degree of reliability, one may opt to use Download, which gives Porygon2 the strength to dent things, but once again, there is a chance the ability may boost Porygon2's Attack instead.

Porygon2 can run an alternate spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD to decrease the damage it takes from special attacks. Additionally, Porygon2 can utilize Thunderbolt, Thunder, or Discharge over one of its support moves to gain good coverage with Ice Beam, but this is not recommended as Porygon2's attacks are normally far too weak to pose an offensive threat. Such a change would also hamper Porygon2's ability to support its team, its primary role.

[Other Options]

While Porygon2's movepool is massive, it does not consist of many useful supporting options. Icy Wind gives Porygon2 the ability to cut the enemies' Speed while preventing it from being Taunt bait, but is rather weak and allows opposing Trick Room teams to become even more threatening. Gravity, Rain Dance, and Sunny Day are all field moves that Porygon2 can utilize nicely to easily disrupt the match, courtesy of its great bulk. Toxic and Thunder Wave are good status alternatives, which Porygon2 has little to no problem spreading around due to its bulk. Lastly, Porygon2 can utilize its Dream World ability, Analytic, nicely, due to Porygon2's relatively low Speed and Analytic's reliability in comparison to Trace or Download. However, Analytic is most useful outside of Trick Room, which conflicts with Porygon2's best role.

[Checks and Counters]

While it may be difficult to destroy the cyber duck, it is much easier to simply neuter it by preventing it from supporting its team. Certain threats can utilize Imprison in conjunction with Trick Room to immediately shut down Porygon2's ability to Trick Room, forcing it out and making it a burden to its team. Chandelure excels at this thanks to key resistances and immunities to Ice- and Normal-type moves, which allow it to evade Fake Out and Tri Attack while taking little damage from Ice Beam. If your team cannot spare a slot for such a Pokemon, then it may be beneficial to just Taunt Porygon2. Once Porygon2 is Taunted, not only is it a sitting duck (pun intended), but it also cannot Recover back its HP, which will result in a slow, painful death. If you lack Taunt or a user of Imprison + Trick Room, then your best option will be to target Porygon2's weakness—powerful Fighting-type attacks—which will inevitably lead to its doom. Hariyama does an excellent job at this, as its presence discourages Trick Room, and it can hit Porygon2 hard with a Guts-boosted STAB Close Combat for the KO.

Both defensive EV spreads now in AC, Magic Coat slashed for the fourth moveslot.

The fourth slot has way to many slashes, Protect and Magic Coat should really be the only slashes there, and Tri Attack the main option in the third along with Ice Beam (maybe TBolt too) slashed in. As you said, it doesn't do a lot of damage, and the point of that set is to support the team through Trick Room and stay alive through Recover, while reflecting back Taunts/Spores/etc with Magic Coat. It does this superbly but can't attack well, and there's no point in wasting a slot on attacking when it could be doing a great job of supporting its team. A set of Trick Room / Recover / Tri Attack / Magic Coat (with Protect > Magic Coat if you're not particularly concerned with Taunts/status), is probably the best set Pory2 can run.

Also, one grammar nitpick which will help you a lot when writing analyses: when you're referring to something it has, like Special Attack or Speed, you should use the word "its" instead of "it's". "It's" means "it is", and "its" means "it has" (or some other word denoting possession). Here you used "it's" when you should've used "its":

it's fanatastic bulk with it's mediocre
Just a helpful tip to make it easier on both yourself and GP Checkers when writing an analysis :D

EDIT: also fanatastic--->fantastic

All right the 4th moveslot now has Protect and Magic Coat slashed, and the Third moveslot has Ice beam and Tri Attack. Moved all mention of Electric attacks into AC since it really likes hitting Taunt users Super Effectively or with its STAB.

By the way, the name is Porygon2 -___-
Oh great I have to make all those spelling changes now D:. Will fix that along with grammer changes into thread later.

EDIT: UHHHH I FORGOT TO SAY I IMPLEMENTED THEM A LONG TIME AGO -_-, well so anything else QC would like?

porygon2 has a ton of options @__@

order of moves: attacking moves should go before recover. change the nature of TR supporter to relaxed, it really does help a lot against every physical attacker ever. quiet can go in OO for more power once tr has gone up. i would like to see a kindof defensive set with icy wind and more coverage moves, but it might be good enough in oo. what does everyone else think?

Umm pory can work outside of Trickroom too freeing up the slot of TR, letting him run both icebeam, and t-bolt. I mean 1 attacking move to me seems meh.

Jrank already commented on that, why run two attacking moves on something thats not denting anything anyway?

Sure it can work outside of Trick Room like icy wind, twave, and... not much else D:. Those are mentioned in OO since Icy wind countered by the growing tailwind, is a boon to TR, and hey I screw everything over 5 turns even if they do somehow predict my double protect yay :D. Twave hits one poke, not the whole battle field.

@muffinhead, will swap spread with one in AC, read above post for my opinion (IMO is a bit biased) on Icy Wind.

Offensive Porygon2 is really powerful.
I like using something like this:

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Defense / 252 Special Attack
Nature: Modest
Moves: Tri Attack, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Protect

This allows it to take a hit and retaliate with a incredibly powerful move. Due to being so offensive, Porygon2 can surprise Taunt users like Thundurus and KO them with Ice Beam. He's also a great Dragon killer with his incredible bulk. Porygon deals 79.5% - 94.9% with an Analytic boost to 4/0 Latios and takes only 78.3% - 91.9% from a Dragon Gem boosted Draco Meteor! The advantage of this set is that it works outside of Trick Room. Due to Analytic, Porygon2 likes being to get the last hit after surviving with its gargantuan defense. He still is a fearsome sweeper in Trick Room though. You should really try out this type of Porygon2.

Offensive-2 doesn't have attacking power, was originally on main set then moved to AC after I listened to Jrank, also... uh anything else QC that you need for a stamp?

I completely rewrote this paragraph since my point wasn't getting across sorry :(. Idea is Dusclops and Dusknoir are superior to Porygon2 Early game, not late or mid game, since Fake Out and Taunt are everywhere (in earlygame not nearly as common mid or late game). I was also trying to say its not a suicide lead but my point on "when to use it unless you want an outclassed pokemon" completely died.

For example, if Porygon2 traces a Dragonite's Multiscale, it will further bolster its titanic defenses. if Porygon2 traces Wonder Guard, the opponent now has to worry about statusing the Cyber Duck unless they want to be walled to death. (this is a terrible example, seeing as only shedinja has wonder guard, and is rarely seen)
IMO Dragonite is even rarer then Shedinja, updated it to an example with levitate.

(I'm not sure if stalling turns is a good thing, considering that it will wear down trick room)
Idea is you protect yourself from moves, so if you want a say Hariyama to kill something but it won't kill both Pokemon, so theres basically Hariyama + Pory2 vs. X, if X uses a move on Pory2 you saved your self a turn of potential damage on Pory2. If someone else gets Screens up and you don't like it you can stall those out.

OK so aside the changes in the AC Paragraphs (sorry Gatodelfuego) everything else has been implemented.

Tri Attack is Porygon2's only usable Sspecial STAB attack and can dent the opposition should Porygon2 be Taunted, and cans well as soften enemies for Porygon2's partners. Ice Beam, however, hits most common Taunt users, such asnamely Thundurus, Tornadus, Whimsicott, and Murkrow, for super effective damage, and hence may be more useful if you wish to prevent Porygon2 from being Taunted. Certain threats can utilize Imprison in conjunction with Trick Room to immediately shut down Porygon2's ability to Trick Room and, forceing it out cand make Porygon2ing it a burden forto its team. Chandelure excels at this thanks to its key resistances and immunities to Ice- and Normal-type moves, which allow it to evade Fake Out and Tri Attack while taking little damage from Ice Beam. If your team cannot providespare a slot for such a Pokemon, then it may be beneficial to just Taunt Porygon2. Once Porygon2 is Taunted, not only is it a "sitting duck", i (pun intended), but also cannot Recover back its HP, which causeswill result in a slow, painful death. [Overview]

With good overall bulk further boosted by Eviolite, an expansive support movepool, and access to the coveted Recover, one may question why Porygon2 is not a more commonly seen Pokemon in the VGC metagame. The answer is simple: Porygon2's lack of a good Special Attack stat and reliance of Eviolite make it quite possibly the biggest Taunt bait in the metagame. While Magic Coat may help to assuage this significant problem, it does not spare Porygon2 from the wrath of Pokemon bearing Imprison, which hinders its's usefulness even more. Porygon2's Speed also leaves much to be desired, which means it is only really useful as a Trick Room supporter. Regardless of these shortcomings, Porygon2 should not be overlooked as an option when searching for a bulky Trick Room user. Support it well, and you will be assured of distorted dimensions and a duck that refuses to faint.
