[SET COMMENTS]

In a metagame plagued by dangerous sweepers such as Dragon Dance Scraggy and Shell Smash Clamperl, Choice Scarf Taillow can function as a solid revenge killer for both even when they have boosted, using a combination of impressive Speed and a high-powered Brave Bird to outpace and OHKO both Scraggy and Clamperl. Unfortunately, Doduo gives Taillow stiff competition because it can achieve the same results as Taillow, but with with slightly higher Attack. However, Taillow possesses several traits that give it an advantage over the twin-headed bird. One of these is U-turn, which is not only a useful move to escape from Wynaut unharmed, but also allows Taillow's team to retain offensive momentum and ease prediction required for Taillow to switch to another teammate. Taillow also has a much better ability than Doduo in Guts, which boosts its Attack when it is inflicted with status, making it strong enough to 2HKO Slowpoke with Brave Bird.

When Taillow can't afford to take recoil damage or wants to hit an Electric-type Pokemon, Return is its most reliable STAB attack. Toxic is used to disrupt walls such as Lileep and Slowpoke that would otherwise recover off Taillow's Brave Birds and KO it back. Taillow can then switch out to another teammate that can stall out the Toxic damage or just outright KO them.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Double-Edge can be used over Return if you prefer power to survivability, but there generally aren't any KOs significant enough to warrant the extra risk. Pursuit can be used over Toxic, should you want to KO a fleeing Gastly or weakened Slowpoke, but it is far more situational than Toxic. The given EVs maximize Taillow's Attack and Speed while increasing its HP a little to alleviate Brave Bird recoil. It is recommended that you do not use a Jolly nature with an intent to outspeed other Choice Scarf users, as it will keep you from revenge killing a full health Scraggy with Brave Bird. A Jolly nature also means Taillow will miss out on several other important KOs.

Because Taillow is a revenge killer with a Stealth Rock weakness and reliance on a strong recoil move, it greatly appreciates a Rapid Spin user to help it not KO itself from recoil. Staryu is a top-notch Rapid Spin user, as it can take hits from the likes of Dwebble and Shelmet and threaten them with a strong STAB Hydro Pump or Surf. However, Ferroseed is a problem for both Taillow and Staryu if it lacks Hidden Power Fire, so using a strong Fighting-type such as Mienfoo or Scraggy will not hurt. Pokemon that benefit from Taillow switching out with U-turn, such as Wynaut, Diglett, and setup sweepers, enjoy taking advantage of whichever specific Pokemon they are facing. Lastly, like every other Choice item user, Taillow can be taken advantage of by Pokemon that are resistant or immune to whichever move it is locked into. Keeping this in mind, you should be aware of the opponent's team and carefully predict accordingly.
