Marmortar

Reformatted v1.2

[Overview]

-Base 125 Special Attack with a good STAB hits RU hard
-Good attack makes it ideal for going mixed
-Great movepool on both sides
-Not fast enough to sweep on its own
-Not very bulky + bad defensive typing + SR weakness severely threaten its ability to survive very long
-Has a lot of trouble against stall in general
-It sees a fair amount of use in NU, and rightfully so, as its one of the more threatening offensive pokemon in the metagame and avoids being predictable.

[SET]

Name: Life Orb Attacker
Move 1: Flamethrower
Move 2: Thunderbolt
Move 3: Hp Ice/Hp Grass
Move 4: Cross Chop
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Flame Body
Nature: Hasty/Mild
EVs: 252 SpA/252 Spe/4 HP

[SET COMMENTS]

-As with most pokemon of its ilk, Magmortar functions well as a straight up life orb attacker
-Nothing complicated here, just hit things hard with the right moves
-83 speed really lets it down in this role, and the mono-fire typing doesn't help
-Like Flame Charge, best to bring in late as a clean-up

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

-This set can't do much to stall, so having a reliable stall breaker is huge
-Rapid Spin support is still extremely helpful and gives it more HP for Life Orb recoil
-Has to be weighed heavily against other RU attackers if you're thinking about using it

[SET]

Name: Flame Charge
Move 1: Flame Charge
Move 2: Flamethower
Move 3: Hp Grass/Hp Ice
Move 4: Cross Chop
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Flame Body
Nature: Rash
EVs: SpA 252/Spe 252/4 HP

[SET COMMENTS]

-Flame Charge is a great move for Magmortar as it gives it the opportunity to easily boost its speed on a favorable match-up and makes sweeping look a lot less far-fetched
-Best for cleaning up late game, as there are always going to be gaps in coverage.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

-If you want a little extra bulk at the expense of Flame Charge damage, you could run a modest nature, but Magmortar should be avoiding special attacks anyway
-Magmortar has a ton of options if you want to check certain stuff, but thunderbolt is practically mandatory for dealing with waters as well as Moltres.

[SET]

Name: Choice Scarf
Move 1: Overheat/Flamethrower
Move 2: Thunderbolt
Move 3: Hp Ice/ Hp Grass
Move 4: Cross Chop
Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Flame Body
Nature: Modest/Rash
EVs: SpA 252/Spe 252/HP 252

[SET COMMENTS]

-With its great movepool and base offences, Magmortar is an ideal scarfer
-Can revenge kill pretty much anything in RU

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

-Without Blissey/Chansey running around, Cross Chop isn't as necessary as it would be in higher tiers, and Magmortar has a plethora of other options if you don't want to split your stats
-Given the SR weakness, rapid spin support is pretty much necessary if you plan on bringing it in often

[Other options]

-It gets some non-offensive options, like Taunt, Toxic, Will-O-Wisp, etc. but Magmortar doesn't have the speed or bulk to abuse them properly
-It gets Belly Drum which could be an interesting gimmick with Flame Charge to make up for the lack of salac berry, but its probably going to be a waste of a pokemon 2/3s of the time
-Mach Punch is its best priority and helps Magmortar's revenge killing ability
-Lefties are generally a poor choice for Magmortar given its lack of bulk and common weaknesses
-Choice Specs are also generally a poor choice seeing as Magmortar enjoys its coverage and there are better specs pokemon out there

[Checks and counters]

-Dugtrio is pretty much lights out
-Even with Thunderbolt, Bulky Waters still give Magmortar a hard time, often sponging the attack and firing back with STAB water attacks, Lanturn being the most dangerous with Volt Absorb
-Entei shrugs off most of its attacks, out-speeds and then hits with Stone Edge
-Magmortar will always have a gap in its coverage, and once it's figured out which hidden power is being used it's open to be exploited
-Magmortar is very easily revenge killed with its lack of resistances and weakness to Aqua Jet
-SR are a major pain, especially for Scarfed variants

[Dream world ability]

-Dream World ability (unreleased) is Vital Spirit, a nice ability that lets Magmortar serve a sleep-blocking role for its team in addition to being able to block Will-O-Wisp
-Not the most amazing ability out there but it does give Magmortar some extra utility

Blue Star is correct.

Also you can change the thread title by clicking edit, then hitting "Go Advanced", which will take you to the same control panel you saw when you made the thread.

LO Attacker set should definitely get first slot, as it's basically he most effective set. Also, I'd say that Naive (which I would recommend Hasty over) should go before all his sets save the Scarf set, as the ability to initially beat + natured base 80's like Gallade is much more valuable than the added powah. Also, you have LO listed as the item on the Scarf set .-. Hp Grass is much more valuable in RU, as Rhydon and Quagsire are much more common than the likes of Druddigon. Lastly, Mach Punch is definitely at least OO material, priority than can pick of Sawsbuck and weakened Omastar is always a nice option.
