Doubles in a minefield? Engineer Pikachu vs. Terrador

Status
Not open for further replies.
"Welcome spectators to a 4v4 Doubles match between Engineer Pikachu and Terrador, two of our top battlers!" exclaims the referee. "You're all probably used to our tournament arena now, so you can all just sit back and enj--"

BOOM!
. . .

"This is where I step in, isn't it?" questions Elevator Music, as he carefully proceeds to where the previous ref was standing. "Ladies and gentlemen, it seems that this is not the standard arena after all. Some dubious trickster seems to have planted mines on this field.... I suspect it to be the work of Deck Knight, he is pretty devious. But that's not important! We came to watch an interesting battle, so let's get on with that!"

"Oh, I guess I should give a moment of silence to our dear ref though. Whatever, he clearly wasn't that important--he didn't even have a name! I can probably make a decent stand-in ref in any case..."

Arena: Minefield

It seems to be the standard tournament arena, but mines have been buried underneath the ground! For each non-chill action a Pokemon takes, there is a 20% chance that a mine will explode, dealing 10 damage to the Pokemon and 3 damage to everybody else. Physical attacks increase this chance by a flat 10% chance, and combo attacks increase the chance by a flat 10% chance as well. In addition, since the mines seem to be pressure-based, all Pokemon who have a WC that is greater than 2 will increase the chance of a mine exploding by (5*WC - 10) percent. Likewise, Pokemon who have a SC that is greater than 2 will increase the chance of a mine exploding by (3*SC - 5) percent.

"K, let's get to it!" Elevator Music shouts a little nervously. Maybe he's finally realizing that he's standing in a minefield? Anyways, both Engineer and Terrador send out their pokemon, with Engineer sending out his Happiny and Kirlia while Terrador sends out a Trapinch and Slowpoke. "That Slowpoke looks a little hefty," Elevator Music states, "maybe not the best choice in an arena filled with mines..... That being said, I'm not the battler!".

Both Happiny and Kirlia seem to find Trapinch a little intimidating, and they decide to launch nasty status attacks at it--a Toxic and Will-O-Wisp respectively. Both attacks collide with Trapinch, crippled. Slowpoke seems to be the first to react to this, lugging its fat ass all the way over to Happiny to slug it with a strong Zen Headbutt. How it managed not to set off a bomb in the process, I don't know. Trapinch, finally gathering the strength to attack, starts to summon boulders out of the ground for a Rock Slide.
BOOM!
It seems to have planted its foot in *just* the wrong position though, setting off another bomb. It looks like it took some hefty damage, while all the other Pokemon seem to have taken some damage from being nearby as well. Trapinch realizes that it was in the middle of an attack, and finally managed to make its attack connect for some mild damage, as somehow the burns made the boulders it summoned less painful?????

Kirlia, being the incredibly intelligent Pokemon that it is, (incorrectly, I was being sarcastic he's not that smart) deduces that Rock Slide was the cause of the explosion, and not wanting it to happen any more he Disables Trapinch's Rock Slide. Happiny is also a little annoyed at this explosion, and fires off a Flamethrower at Trapinch to tell it to watch where it steps. Slowpoke is a little slow... it thinks that Flamethrowers are what all the cool kids are doing, so it fires off one of its own at Kirlia, failing to burn but causing mild damage. Finally, Trapinch just sits there looking like a fool. "Maybe it's embarrassed it set off the mine?????" Elevator Music asks himself....

Happiny starts to glow red, possibly sensing an oncoming attack? Kirlia, angry that it just got set on fire, decides to retaliate with a strong Thunderbolt, causing some pretty major damage to Slowpoke. Slowpoke then once again starts to lug itself over to the glowing Happiny to hit it with another Zen Headbu--
BOOM!
It stepped on a mine, causing another explosion. "Man, Terrador's Pokemon seem to be unlucky!" decides Elevator Music, "They need to learn to watch where they step I guess...". Slowpoke manages to finish its Zen Headbutt though, causing some damage to Happiny. Trapinch, once again, sits there like a fool, while Happiny's aura disperses and it runs up to smack Slowpoke with a pretty strong Counter!

"Tough luck Terrador!" Elevator Music shouts, "We'll see if you an pull things around after this..."

Engineer recalls Happiny, deciding that maybe this isn't the proper battlefield for babymons. In her stead, out pops Tamama the Togetic, who wisely starts flying around to avoid setting off any explosions.

Kirlia starts off with a Confuse Ray that makes its way towards Trapinch, eventually leaving him Slightly Confused. Togetic then shoots out a pretty Tri Attack that nails Slowpoke head on, though it fails to have a secondary effect. Slowpoke, 5 seconds later when the pain registers, shoots out an Ice Beam in retaliation, which causes some damage back to Togetic. Trapinch finally decides to do something, and makes its way across the arena to Bite Kirlia. "That's risky..." Elevator Music states, "I'm not even moving from my spot!"

Kirlia decides to launch another strong Thunderbolt at Slowpoke.
BOOM!
"Hmmm.... Maybe it shifted its weight to much?" Elevator Music says, offering a terrible explanation as to how that's even possible. The blast stikes Kirlia fairly hard, but it seems like it managed to connect the Thunderbolt, as Slowpoke is now looking pretty worn out! Togetic does a spin move, and suddenly Magical Leaves appear and chase down Trapinch, who is busy making its way towards Kirlia (yes, run TOWARDS the explosion......) to land another Bite. Slowpoke, pretty pissed off, uses a combination of Ice Beam+Ice Beam and smacks Togetic as hard as it can, causing some hefty damage. "To be honest folks, I never really understood how you could combine a move with itself....." Elevator Music says to the crowd. "It just doesn't make much sense to me. Then again, here we are watching a fight between powerful creatures that obey us for some reason. Shouldn't this be illegal???"

Kirlia sees that Slowpoke is nearing its end, and does a pirouette (SO manly..) as--
BOOM!
Maybe doing a spin move was a bad idea....? Regardless,Magical Leaves appear next to Kirlia and cut into Slowpoke, which combined with the force explosion, knock it out. Togetic was also aiming an attack for Slowpoke, but realizing that she just fainted, redirects its Tri Attack to Trapinch, who once again is crawling across the arena towards Kirlia to Bite it. "What's with this Trapinch? Does it have a choice item or something? Why is it moving around so much in a minefield? Why is it moving towards explosions?" Elevator Music asks, although all of his questions go unanswered.

The burn and poison previously inflicted on Trapinch take their toll once again. Trapinch looks like it is about to go out just like Slowpoke did. To be honest though, Kirlia isn't looking much better (it did just step on two bombs though, I guess I'll cut it some slack...)

Trapinch, knowing his end is near, tries to brace himself by planting himself firmly on the the ground in an effort to Endure the pain...
BOOM!
Before Trapinch can do so, it seems he tripped a mine and fainted himself. "Suicide bomber much?" Elevator Music remarks, to which the entire crowd simultaneously sweatdrops. Tynamo then charges into Togetic with Spark, while Kirlia does another spin move, although this time his Magical Leaves have nowhere to go. Togetic, worried about further electric shocks, sets up a Substitute to take blows for him.

Tynamo then continues his assault on Togetic, firing a Charge Beam directly at him.... or at least, what he thought was Togetic. In reality he hit the Substitute, and didn't even manage to break it or get a Special Attack boost. Kirlia then attempts to help out his ally, healing him with a Heal Pulse.... or at least, what he thought was Togetic. In reality-- wait I already did that. The pulse hit the substitute and failed. "Why do Pokemon fall for Substitute....?" Elevator Music asks, "The dolls that are created look nothing like the real Pokemon..." Togetic, realizing it has to do everything around here by himself, fires off a Tri Attack at Tynamo, inflicting a burn in the process.

Tynamo tries to attack Togetic again, charging at him with another Spark.... or at least, what he though was Toge-- OK, this is getting old, isn't it? The attack managed to destroy the substitute, leaving Togetic exposed. Kirlia sees this (after facepalming at himself for his last two actions), and Disables Tynamo's Spark. Togetic also tries to rescue itself from danger by healing himself with a Morning Sun.

Was this post really necessary? I only have one remaining mon. Go Monohm, kick some ass.

This is what I get for not bringing mid-stage mons to a fight ambiguously referred to as "NFE"...

I usually use NFE literally, but clarifying is something I should probably do next time >_>
I sincerely apologize for the in the event that I cheat you of a KO counter by doing this.

Terrador recalls his fainted Trapinch and sends out Monohm, while Engineer decides to be super lame and recalls Kirlia for Eelektrik. Monohm then bursts out with a Thunder, striking Togetic for some pretty massive damage while paralyzing it. Tynamo follows suit, launching another Charge Beam at the egg-bird, and manages to score a Special Attack boost. Eelektrik sneaks up on Monohm and tries to constrict it with a Bind. Monohm struggles to get free...
BOOM!
"Monohm's struggles seem to have set off another mine," Elevator Music announces, finally doing his job, "The explosion seems to have struck both Monohm and Eelektrik full force, hitting both for large damage and freeing Monohm from Bind." Togetic, seeing poor-cute-little Monohm all hurt, flies down and gives it a Sweet Kiss to comfort him, showing he doesn't hold a grudge. This slightly confuses Monohm, and I'll leave you to figure out why...

Monohm tries to shake off the confusion by performing a Rain Dance. "Maybe that isn't the brightest idea...." Elevator Music comments, "He could easily trip off another mine that way." Alas, it seems that the dance didn't cause a second explosion, and Tynamo celebrates by fainting Togetic with another Charge Beam. Eelektrik continues to attack Monohm, furiously chomping down on him with a Crunch.

Monohm decides he has had enough of Eelektrik's shit, so to speak, and fires off an impressive Hydro Pump... that Eelektrik barely dodges. Tynamo then chilled out, too intimidated to attack his evolution, while Eelektrik strikes both of his opponents with Acid. "Oof, how did it just do that?" Elevator Music wonders aloud.... "Seems painful."

Monohm is a little pissed off, and seeks to zap his opponents with a strong Thunder. He strikes a fearsome pose, and some thunderclouds appear above Happiny...
BOOM!
"Monohm just has the worst luck with these things...." Elevator Music comments. "Oh, but it looks like Happiny was struck pretty hard by the Thunder, impressive!". Tynamo, not to be outdone, fires a Charge Beam at Happiny..... it was still totally outdone though, the Thunder did so much more. It did land a nice stat boost though, raising its Special Attack one stage. Eelektrik tries to help out poor Happiny by floating over to Monohm and landing a nice Crunch. As Monohm cries out in pain, Happiny dashes over to him to give it a Sweet Kiss, though it trips on a rock and misses...

Angry over being bitten, Monohm fires another Hydro Pump at Eelektrik, and this time he manages to hit him head on. "The damage of Hydro Pump seems to have been boosted by the rain," says Elevator Music. As he says this, you can hear some of the crowd whisper among themselves... "Isn't that obvious? What a stupid ref....". Tynamo charges at Happiny with a Tackle; however, due to Tynamo's small size and his burn, the attack does pitiful damage. Eelektrik lunges at Monohm with another Crunch. "Clearly he didn't like the Hydro Pump very much..." Happiny then shoots some Toxic ooze at Monohm, badly poisoning him.

"Clearly he didn't like the Hydro Pump very much..." Happiny then shoots some Toxic ooze at Tynamo, badly poisoning him. "Wait, deja vu?" Elevator Music chimes in, finally realizing how ridiculous the situation was.

Unagi: Bind (Monohm) - Acid Spray (Monohm) - Crunch (Monohm)
IF (Monohm is at 2 HP or less on A3) THEN (Redirect to Tynamo)
IF (Monohm faints) THEN (Redirect to Tynamo)

IF (Monohm is at >2 HP on A3) THEN (Use Pound (Monohm) instead)

Oh, I was totally beating myself up for not reffing this, but I hadn't realized Terra didn't post his actions yet. Terra I promise I will ref the rest of this match speed-ily if you post!!!!

Of course; my sincere apologies. Also, don't worry about your activity - you're actually one of the more active refs I've had recently ^_^
