November 2011 UU Stats Discussion

Another month goes by and Antar and Innocent Criminal bring us new and improved usage stats. Lots of interesting data here, especially with moveset statistics being generated for the first time. Roserade and Donphan continue to prove to be the most valuable utility pokemon, easily taking the top two slots. Roserade even took #1 in the 1337 stats! On the other hand, Tornadus, who we all thought would become a big player in the metagame, has struggled to find an identity and has fallen all the way to #52.

1337 stats tell a completely different story, as neglected wonders like Krookodile and Raikou find themselves very high up. Hitmontop, the #6 most used pokemon in UU, falls all the way to #59 in the 1337 stats as the top players seem to be unanimously using Blastoise.

Lots of interesting data in the moveset data. Contrary to what we saw in early UU, Mismagius now uses Taunt + Will-O-Wisp far more often than Nasty Plot. Reachzero's offensive Porygon2 is also decisively its most common set despite being popularized very recently, with over 60% of Porygon2 being modest. Lots of valuable data to be mined here

No surprise to me about Krookodile, that thing wins entire matches and can revenge kill or sweep most of UU.

Nothing else of real note high up the ladder though besides the obvious Roserade is stomping on most of the metagame.

On the other hand its what the stats are NOT showing which is of note.

Stoutland usage has virtually died out is probably the most notable one.

Mamoswine down in 27 wtf is wrong with you people? Mamo stomps all over UU where he has absolutely no true counters, only halfassed checks. Also Crobat, Azelf, Raikou, Jolteon, Krookodile, Escavalier, Dugtrio all falling into RU territory almost seriously wtf is wrong with you people? I mean we're sitting at a point where by next month Alakazam, Chansey, Dugtrio, Donphan, Jolteon will be OU if their usage keeps up for a third time in a row. But at least two of these guys are virtually non-existant in UU?!

Heracross has taken a huge hike in usage, he;s a simple mon too use. Slap a scarf on him and hey presto! Say hello too an awesome revenge killer, it can also pursuit trap as well, so mons like mismagius can't stick around and block your attempts at spinning. Also it easily demolishes chansey, and if slowbro is the other half of the defensive core, then the opponent is in big trouble as heracross goes right through.

flygon at number 5, makes me suspect that people are finally preparing for DDance kingdra.

[rant] Why is a Rapid Spinner who can't threaten ghosts and a Technician user that Psychics laugh as they kill him while failing to use Pursuit still the 6th-most-used UU Pokemon? Hitmontop is a terrible Pokemon, mainly because it's terrible at doing its job(s), and I'm glad that good players are realizing this. (I'm not that good, so if I can figure this out, better players should, too.) Donphan and Blastoise just make better Spinners, and there are more useful and versatile Fighting Pokemon (like Heracross and Cobalion). Sorry if I sound whiny, but why use Hitmontop?

All glory to the beetle at #2 (in 1337), though. Being a nice Scarf attacker and being able to effectively reverse the effect of burns (seems like a big deal right now) is awesome.

Technitop is a great check to fast teams, being able to dish out significant damage in priority. True it can't break walls, but that isn't its goal. It has its own niche, and Heracross can't really fill it. Heracross has a great scarf set, but it is more of a revenge killer, less of a general check to offensive teams. Cross has to lock himself into a STAB with immunities, a STAB with many good resists, or a coverage base 100 non STAB move with 80 accuracy. Hitmontop doesn't have to lock moves, and can continue to threaten almost an entire HO team. Not saying Cross is bad at what he does, they just do different things.

Swampert will be awesome in UU, as it was in OU in the two past gens. I mean, I only use swampert in Dpp and Adv teams since in BW he's just bad in OU. However, if he drops into UU he will finally find a place to really shine.

The stats surprise me (well not really), a lot of valuable pokemon are so low in general stats and other sucking shit is so high. At least in 1337 stats, the goods mons are in decent place.

Changes to tiers if individual 'mon cutoffs stay the same as Oct & Nov:

Up to OU:
- Dugtrio (from NU, LOL)
- Chansey :(
- Donphan
- Jolteon
- Tornadus

Down to UU:
- Swampert

However, if the cutoffs in Dec & Jan stay the same as November, Mamowine will move up too whilst Bronzong moves down.

Chansey and Donphan moving up will be a real hit to Stall teams, and I really doubt Swampert will be able to balance it out, even with Bronzong. Just got to hope Keldeo gets released with the next Pokemon movie so Chansey's usage falls (and going by this; http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Information_on_fifteenth_Pok%C3%A9mon_movie_revealed, it most likely will).

Damn it, I love Stall too much to see Chansey go. I don't want to have to use Umbreon for christ's sake (seriously, kill me now).

Agreed on Kingdra though, i've only played 3 matches in about 2-3 weeks but a quick team I made based around Specs Kingdra + Mamo did quite well (with a little tweaking I probably could have done pretty far with it), especially since I beat Heysup with it. :D

No point in using Chansey if it results in you being 6-0d by Nasty Plot Mismagius. Umbreon actually beats Mismagius. Chansey also bleeds to passive damage way too easily.

Chansey going up to OU seems to be pretty certain unless the December stats take a nose dive - since she had 4.15% last month. Swampert still has a chance to turn things around though.

Just because it doesn't wall EVERY special attacker in the tier doesn't mean it's bad. Also, Mag can not always come in entirely for free, as it always has to fear status. Give Chansey some credit, it can be a major pain in the ass when played correctly.

Let's not get all hyped up about Swampert. Remind me, what is the most used Pokémon in UU? Oh yeah, a Grass type. Roserade VS Swampert? My money is on Roserade. I suppose Leaf Storm could miss and Swampert could use Ice Punch/Beam. However, Swampert could enliven prospects of Sand teams, recently left in desperate need of a physical wall.
