Hi all, I'm going to celebrate my graduation from uni partly with an RMT here. As you know, I love the Ubers metagame. A part of this is because of how innovative you could get with it. After browsing through the usage stats thread, one curious user named Koinzell brought an interesting Pokemon to my attention: Jynx. Apparently, he used Jynx quite a lot and it was very effective, so I decided to give it a try. After testing it for a while, it is my new favourite Pokemon to use in Ubers. It is really good and recommend that people use it for 1) it has a great niche in the Ubers metagame and 2) it's fun watching yourself sweep an Ubers team with Jynx. I've x-0'd a number of people trying to use Drown All but failing with it alone. So this is kind of like a "How to use Jynx" manual, if you like =D. So far, I've cruised to #6 on the ladder but I'm still climbing, so it's probably been the most successful team I've ever made if you factor in the amount effort I've put into it (virtually none, I put it together in like 5 minutes). Then again, like always, getting a high ladder spot in Ubers means zilch.

The team in general can be considered Balance, it's not slow enough to be stall, but I carry walls, Spikes and phazers. I guess it's more stallish balance, since I don't carry really fast boosting sweepers that murder you with a single setup like Mewtwo.

If you've seen me around the place, you'll have noticed that I love Beethoven's music. The names of the Pokemon, as well as the various quotes and the title, all come from the lyrics of Schiller's Ode to Joy in the Symphony Number 9 in D Minor. It is a true masterpiece and makes your mainstream music sound like a total turd. Here, have a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljGMhDSSGFU

Dialga @ Leftovers *** VOR GOTT!
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 96 SpA / 120 SpD / 40 Spe
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Pulse
- Roar
- Fire Blast

Dialga is such a dawg. This Pokemon is so annoying that I've decided to use it. This thing has such epic typing, bulk and power that it can fit into any team. There are so many teams in which you could just lead with Dialga and kill like three Pokemon before going down simply because they can't kill it. Unless you have like a Life Orb or Choice Band/Specs with a STAB super effective move like Earthquake or Close Combat, you aren't killing Dialga. In return, even with its relatively low investment in Special Attack, it easily deals heavy damage in return with near perfect coverage in Dragon Pulse or Fire Blast. Otherwise, it would just set up Stealth Rock, while if you attempt to set up on it, you'll be rudely shaken by his mighty Roar. Simply put, Dialga is probably the best tank to ever exist. This Pokemon is at the same time amazing as well as infuriating, it's so annoying to try and take it down.

The moveset and EV spread are basically the same as the one from trickroom's Drown All team, except I've put some additional EVs into Speed for some speed creep. Stealth Rock is virtually mandatory, while Dragon Pulse is just a reliable STAB. I definitely prefer Fire Blast over Ferrothorn, since you can 2HKO it in the rain even through Leech Seed and a round or two of Protect, while Flamethrower just fails to do that. I used Dragon Tail for a bit, but changed to Roar so I can phaze out Substitute mons, and Giratina-O already has Dragon Tail anyway.

Freude trinken alle Wesen, an den Brüsten der Natur (All creatures drink Joy at the breasts of nature)

Spr_5b_484.png

Palkia @ Choice Scarf *** FREUDE
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Spacial Rend
- Surf
- Fire Blast
- Thunder

I'm personally a bit indifferent to Palkia's spot on the team. This team was originally on a team in which I use Manaphy with, so I used Palkia as my Kyogre switch-in. Now that I have Jynx, I've sort of felt Palkia to be a redundant. I needed a Choice Scarfer that can revenge kill DD Rayquaza, Darkrai and Mewtwo, and Palkia seemed like a natural fit. I kind of tried Choice Scarf Shaymin-S for a while, but I found it too weak. Having an additional Kyogre check is good, too. Palkia is still a great Pokemon, though. You may hear stuff like "Palkia is bad these days because Ferrothorn is everywhere and Spikes are everywhere". That doesn't really matter if all I'm doing with it is revenge killing, is it? Anyway, Palkia is a fantastic revenge killer. Base 100 Speed allows it to safely revenge kill Dragon Dance Rayquaza, and Salamence isn't that common these days. Scarf Skymin is too weak, so is ScarfChomp, while Choice Scarf Zekrom is too slow. Palkia is here to stay, it seems.

Anyway, the moveset and EV spread is as simple as you can get. Timid and max Speed is used so I outspeed Rayquaza, as well as speed tie with other Palkias at worst. Spacial Rend is reliable enough spam again (if you've read my Qwilfish RMT you'll remember how much I hated Spacial Rend misses). Surf in the rain is basically Draco Meteor spam and easily OHKOs Darkrai. Thunder disposes of Kyogres while a predicted Fire Blast sticks the finger (or Palkia's penis head) at Ferrothorn switch-ins.

Freude, schöner Götterfunken, Götterfunken! (Joy is the spark of divinity, divinity!)

Spr_5b_487O.png

Giratina-O @ Griseous Orb *** GOTTERFUNKEN
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 236 Atk / 228 SpA / 44 Spe
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Draco Meteor
- Thunder
- Dragon Tail
- Shadow Sneak

Since I have Spikes on this team, a spin-blocker is ideal. Fortunately, unlike in OU, excellent spin-blockers exist in Ubers, and Giratina-O is arguably the best. Not only does it block spin, but it is also a fantastic phazer, ready to fuck you over with a couple of layers of hazards down. It is also my primary Groudon counter (Skarm needs to watch out for Fire moves), since it can easily switch into Earthquake and Draco Meteor the titan for 70-80% damage. While some people may think Ghost Arceus is better as a spin blocker due to Recover, Giratina-O has Levitate, which just says "piss off" to Spikers and Toxic Spikers in general. Arceus gets mauled by Toxic Spikes, as well as Spikes in general. Since Spikes and Ferrothorn are everywhere, that recovery is almost nullified since Giratina-O avoids them in the first place.

Again, the EV spread and moveset are pretty much exactly same as trickroom's Drown All Giratina-O, except I've against reshifted some EVs into Speed for the speed creeps =D. 236 SpA and 228 SpA is negligible, but 44 Spe and 36 Spe are completely different, especially when you face little bastards who use 40. Draco Meteor for powerful STAB, Dragon Tail for phazing, Thunder for coverage in the rain, while Shadow Sneak picks off 60% Mewtwos. Not much else to say.

Freude, tochter aus Elysium! (Joy is the daughter of Elysium!)

Spr_5b_227.png

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers *** ELYSIUM
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Toxic
- Whirlwind
- Roost

Skarmory is the best Spiker in the Uber tier. Ferrothorn is shit. The reason is that Skarmory delivers a massive hiding to ExtremeKiller Arceus, while Ferrothorn often dies to take it down. There is absolutely nothing ExtremeKiller can do to get past Skarmory in the rain, EVER (except maybe Thunder, although that isn't doing that much without SpA investment). In return, Skarmory just uses Toxic on the thing. Game over, ExtremeKiller Arceus, GAME OVER. It's not just Arceus either, Skarmory pretty much walls Groudon unless it carries Overheat, while it can also be an emergency stop to sweepers if Sturdy remains intact.

Skarmory uses a Specially Defensive spread Ubers due to the huge number of Special Dragon-type attacks it needs to switch into. Skarmory can easily switch into stuff like Choice Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend and set up Spikes, while a physical spread would actually take a lot of damage. It also allows Skarmory to avoid getting 2HKOed by Arceus' Overheat even in neutral weather, allowing it to put its metal boot in Arceus' face. If Arceus wants an image of a future with Skarmory alive, it can imagine a boot stepping down on its face... forever (I love my 1984). I use a Calm nature to boost Special Defense because since Skarmory doesn't run any attacks, a Calm nature allows it to take less confusion damage if it ever gets confused. The moveset allows Skarmory to hurt the opponent with Spikes while making sure ExtremeKiller Arceus, even last mon Arceus, does not sweep. That's where Toxic comes in.

Brüder, über'm Sternenzelt, muss ein lieber Vater wohnen! (Brothers, a loving Father must dwell above the starry canopy!)

Spr_5b_382.png

Kyogre @ Choice Specs *** LIEBER VATER
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Water Spout
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Thunder

This thing has almost become a forgotten threat. When you face Kyogres these days, you can pretty much rest assured that it is Scarf, and anything different is rare. If Ferrothorn is now being used as the premier Kyogre switch-in, you know that people have forgotten the power of Specs. It's so nice watching Ferrothorns waltzing into Kyogre only to get a rude awakening when they take 60%+ from Water Spout, or >40% from Surf and realise they're getting 2HKOed after switching into Spikes and couple of times. It's also probably my biggest weapon against Baton Pass teams. As long as Sleep Clause is in effect, I can bring in Kyogre as Smeargle Spores and fire away. Nothing says "fuck you" to a recipient more than a full powered Water Spout to the face. After the -1 from Shell Smash from Smeargle, Dialga is cleanly OHKO by Water Spout. Specs Kyogre has really gone under the radar, and it is still as good as ever.

If you're wondering why I'm running a Modest natured Kyogre with near max Speed, I'll explain here. The thing is that most Base 90s don't run a lot of Speed these days anyway, and those that do run +ve nature. Personally, I found Timid SpecsOgre not strong enough for my tastes (I'm greedy, right?), and I'll end up Speed-tieing them anyway, but I still want Kyogre to be fast. The moveset is just standard. Kyogre is definitely the loving Father of the team.

Ja, wer auch nur eine Seele, Sein nennt auf dem Erdenrund! (Indeed, whoever can call one soul his own on Earth!)

Spr_5b_124.png

Jynx (F) @ Leftovers *** SEELE
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 248 HP / 44 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Lovely Kiss
- Ice Beam
- Nasty Plot
- Substitute

Credits to Koinzell for discovering Jynx in the Ubers metagame!

You got to have soul (Hence Jynx's name, Seele, which is German for "soul"). Jynx is our resident fat black soul singer that completely dismantles teams. Dry Skin was an absolute godsend to a Pokemon who would otherwise have fallen into the depths of NU. Unlike other Water absorbers like Gastrodon, Jynx actually poses an offensive threat in the long run. Unlike Darkrai, she can switch into Kyogre, not the other way around. Since most Kyogres these days are Scarfed, Jynx can easily switch into Water Spout, Surf or Ice Beam, set up a Substitute and act accordingly. Dry Skin and Leftovers offer Jynx a whopping 18.75% recovery every turn, which means almost free Substitutes. She can create 12 Substitutes from full health before being unable to make more, which is just bloody awesome. With this in mind, it's no wonder that you can turn Ferrothorn into setup fodder without even needing Lovely Kiss, since you can either 1) use Substitute and stall out Gyro Ball PP or 2) use Substitute to wait for a Power Whip miss. Ferros that run both Power Whip AND Gyro Ball are rare. If they send a Pokemon that appears to stop you (like Steel Arceus), just put it to sleep with Lovely Kiss and use Substitute again. In these conditions, Jynx can easily set up a Nasty Plot or two and then hit like a truck with Ice Beam. Oh, did I mention how weak Ubers is to Ice these days? The premier walls, Lugia, Giratina, Groudon, whatever you like, are all weak to Ice Beam. Even our new-found troll Ferrothorn is susceptible to getting annihilated by Jynx, since +2 Ice Beam easily 2HKOs, while Power Whip and Gyro Ball are stalled out in the process I just described. Similarly, Dialga is also 2HKOed by +2 Ice Beam, although you'll need to use Lovely Kiss to set up on Dialga. Basically, to counter Jynx, you need either 1) Heatran, 2) Tyranitar, or 3) a combination of something to take sleep and another to defeat Jynx. Tyranitar is a pain, but fortunately, it's pretty rare. Heatran is laughed at by the rest of the team. Jynx is so awesome that I've 6-0'd multiple people using Drown All with it. If you want an idea about how Jynx is played, watch this battle: http://pokemon.aesoft.org/replay-shrang-test-vs-christos21--2011-12-13

The EV spread allows Jynx to outspeed all Base 90 Pokemon. There's little point in trying to outspeed Rayquaza, since he has ExtremeSpeed anyway. 248 HP since Jynx is weak to Stealth Rock, and the rest went into SpA for some extra power. Substitute and Nasty Plot are the crux of the set, while Lovely Kiss puts potential counters out of commission.

I'm not going to bother writing up a threat list. I did it for Rock All and that took fucking forever. I will give you all an importable this time, though. Rate, Hate, Steal!

Nice team man,i remember the battle we've played(which you have on the replay) and my team just couldn't touch Jynx.Jynx is a good sweeper itself + sleep + being unpredictable makes it a respectable threat.

Hi Shrang nice team and nice use of Jynx!

In your description of Specs Kyogre you mention how well he handles Smeargle after Sleep Clause is activated. The thing is that Smeargle always uses Shell Smash first, and then uses Spore on whatever comes in.Then he Baton Passes to the receiver in the free turn provided by Spore.
When will Kyogre will be switching in?
If Kyogre switches in while Smeargle uses Shell Smash then next turn it will be put to sleep. If he comes in after Smeargle uses Spore then when he switches in Smeargle will be baton passing to the receiver. So when will he get a chance to ohko the receiver?

Well against BP teams I generally lead with Giratina-O to pick off Deoxys-S before it puts up too many layers. Smeargle would then switch in, but if use Shell Smash, I'd just Dragon Tail you out, while if you use Spore, I just bring Kyogre for the kill. For Smeargle to set up against this team, you need to come into either Palkia or Kyogre. Dialga, Skarmory and Giratina-O would just phaze you, while Jynx outspeeds and Lovely Kisses you first.

I am not arguing how well your team does against a SmashPass Smeargle,i am only saying that SpecsOgre is a poor answer to it.

As i said before no good player will use Spore before they can Baton Pass safely, and no good player would setup on pokes that could wreck you like Dragon Tail users and faster pokes with crippling moves(Jynx).

Of 'course if you face a SmashPass Smeargle played from a decent player at least,he is going to use Shell Smash only in front if a poke that only carries attacking moves like Kyogre,Palkia etc,and not your other pokes. Then after it goes down to its Sash it will simply use Spore to sleep whatever poke stays in,and then it will Baton Pass the boosts while you are either asleep or switching out...

So if Smeargle is played in this way(the right way)your Kyogre will not even have a chance to hit the recipient.

Maybe change your skarmory spread 252hp / 16def / 240sp.def imprish? Lets you not be 2HKO by +1 lofeorb jolly outrage from rayquzza / salamence.
