Gabite [QC 3/3]

[Overview]

- another NFE Dragon, distinguished by typings and an actual movepool
- excellent STAB, almost unresisted, excpet by Bronzor and Shedinja
- quite bulky with eviolite, gained Hone claws in 5th gen
- stats are nothing special (90 Att, 82 Spe)

[SET]
name: Hone Claws
move 1: Hone Claws
move 2: Dragon Rush
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stone Edge
item: Eviolite
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- Hone Claws is his only boosting move, but the accuracy bost is appreciated for moves like Dragon Rush and Stone Edge
- Dragon Rush's accuracy is fixed by Hone Claws, and is more reliable than Outrage, however, the latter is more useful if you prefer immediate power.
- Earthquake crushes Bastiodon and Probopass, and has excellent coverage with his Dragon move
- Stone Edge also has its accuracy fixed by Hone Claws, and hits pokemon weak to it harder than Gabites other moves

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

- Outrage is an option over Dragon Rush for even more power, but it locks you in
- Max Atk for max damage, max Speed to outpace Magmortar (a massive threat in NU that can be brought down by Earthquake)
- Life Orb can be the item, but without Eviolite Gabite struggles to actually get a boost in the first place
- Substitute can be used in the last slot to block status
- Pokemon that draw in Electric-type moves are good partners (Mantine?) and that can break through Tangela (Magmortar)

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Outrage
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Toxic / Dragon Claw
item: Choice Band
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- hits hard right off the bat
- his STAB moves hit everything bar Bronzor and Shedinja
- Stone Edge is his strongest non-STAB move, smacks Flying-types around
- Toxic is to poison incoming walls, like Tangela. Steel- and Poison-types generally don't switch into Gabite, fearing an Earthquake, whereas Dragon Claw is a more reliable, if weak, STAB Dragon-type move

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

- without Eviolite, Gabite is frail, so only switch it into types he's resistant or immune to
- Adamant is an option to hit harder, but Gabite loses out on positive natured base 80s, (very, very common)
- same teammates as before really

[Other Options]

- Dual chop can be used, but the accuracy can be annoying, and he has better STAB moves for the Hone Claws set
- can run a support set with Steath Rock and Dragon Tail, but it's weak, and lack of recovery is unappealing
- special moves like Draco Meteor, Earth Power and Fire Blast, but base 50 SpA sucks
- Choice Scarf to boost his Speed, but he's way to weak without a way to boost his Attack

[Checks and Counters]

- Tangela takes NOTHING from Gabite. Weezing is in the same boat. Quagsire completely stops the Hone Claws set, and Leafeon is a very effective counter as well. Despite having a weakness to Earthquake, Carracosta's bassive base 133 Def and Solid Rock, coupled with the fact that it often carries Ice-type moves, make it a counter as well
- all you really have to do is outspeed Gabite and hit him with a powerful move. (the other Dragon DON'T fit into this category, as Gabite is the fastest and crushes them with Outrage, unless they're scarved, but nobody scarves Dragon-types down here)

[Dream World]

- Rough Skin is better, since there's no Sandstorm in NU for Gabite to take advantage of with his current Sand Veil ability

Banned deucer.
Mention quagsire as a full stop for 1st set, and probably for 2nd too, as well as leafeon. Carracosta has solid rock and 133 base def, I think its a counter too.

tennisace

not quite too old for this, apparently

Just mention Outrage in the AC of the first set and deslash it. Otherwise looks good!
