Audino

[Overview]

Audino, BW's incarnation of Chansey. It's not wrong to call Audino that, since it plays similar to how its counterpart does: supporting its teammates to the fullest. Audino has great defenses for NU, with a base 103 HP and base 86 defenses to back it up. It has an amazing movepool as well—both offensively and defensively—allowing it to provide great support. Unfortunenately, Audino's offensive stats are rather lackluster, making it difficult to take advantage of its offensive movepool; however, they are decent for a defensive Pokemon. Audino's typing is also a blessing, but in some respects, a curse for it. An immunity to Ghost-type moves is helpful, but a crippling weakness to Fighting-type moves and no resistances leave Audino vulnerable to numerous Pokemon in the tier. One might also argue that Audino is outclassed by Lickilicky, but that's not entirely true. Audino has a much better ability in Regenerator, and niche moves in Trick Room and Healing Wish.

name: Cleric

move 2: Protect
move 3: Heal Bell
move 4: Toxic / Thunder Wave
item: Leftovers
ability: Regenerator
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

This is the standard cleric set, with Wish and Heal Bell being the staple moves. Thanks to Audino's huge HP stat, its Wishes provide enough recovery to restore most teammates back to full health, while Heal Bell cures any status Audino's teammates might suffer from. Toxic and Thunder Wave provide standard status support. If Audino's teammates lack Toxic Spikes, Toxic helps in breaking down walls. Thunder Wave, however, helps slower, hard hitting Pokemon take on faster opponents. Protect ensures that Audino doesn't get KOed while it gets healed by Wish, and it works great with Toxic, slowly increasing the damage taken.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

There are several moves that can be used to prevent Audino from becoming complete Taunt bait. Flamethrower can be used to take down Steel-, Grass-, and Bug-types, while Surf deals with Fire-, Rock-, and Ground-types. Ice Beam hits Altaria, alongside other Dragon- and Flying-types, as well as Grass-types, hard. Grass Knot will demolish Quagsire and Carracosta, while Thunderbolt will do the same to Gorebyss and other Water-types. Two less favorable options for hitting Ghost-, Psychic-, Poison-, and Fighting-types relatively hard are Shadow Ball and Psychic. Return is Audino's best bet for a STAB move; use a Careful nature with it. Though its Defense stat is equal to its Special Defense, one should only focus to maximize Audino's Special Defense, as it will easily be OHKOed by most Fighting-type moves anyway.

Pokemon that pair well with Audino are those who can't heal themselves or are severly crippled by status, such as Regirock, Mesprit, and Armaldo, which lack any recovery outside of Rest. Set-up sweepers appreciate Heal Bell support, since status such as Toxic and paralysis will limit their sweeps; they also benefit from the healing effects of Wish, giving them a second chance of sweeping. Gorebyss, Absol, and Pinsir, for example, all appreciate Audino's support. Rest users also benefit from Heal Bell, as it wakes them up instantly. Something to handle Fighting-types, such as Sawk, and other physical hard-hitters carrying Fighting-type moves, such as Absol, are great for Audino. Exeggutor has no trouble taking care of Fighting-types, while Misdreavus can cripple any physical attacker with Will-O-Wisp; both Misdreavus and Exeggutor pair well with Audino due to their physical defense and typing. Audino functions well on stall teams as well.

move 3: Wish / Healing Wish
move 4: Toxic / Thunder Wave
item: Light Clay

[SET COMMENTS]

This is a standard dual screen set, but with some key differences. Unlike most dual screen users, Audino possesses Wish to heal its teammates alongside bolstering their defense with screens. However, Audino has another niche move over other dual screen users, only sharing it with Mesprit, Gardevoir, and Chimecho down in NU: Healing Wish. Healing Wish fully heals a teammate, also removing any status conditions inflicted upon them. However, it comes with a price; Audino must sacrifice itself in order to use the move. Toxic can help Audino's teammates break down certain walls, while Thunder Wave cripples most offensive threats and sweepers.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Heal Bell can be used with Wish to cure status, but Audino has a terrible case of four moveslot syndrome. If you want to avoid being stopped by Taunt, there are several offensive moves that can be used. Flamethrower can keep Steel-, Grass-, and Bug-types at bay, while Thunderbolt hits Water- and Flying-types, such as Gorebyss and Swellow, super effectively. Ice Beam hits Grass- and Flying-types, as well as the occasional Dragon-type, for super effective damage. Grass Knot is Audino's best bet against Quagsire and Carracosta, while Psychic and Shadow Ball deal with Fighting-, Poison-, Ghost-, and Psychic-types, respectively. Surf can be used to handle Rock-, Fire-, and Ground-types. Return is a viable option for a STAB move, but must be used with a Careful nature. It's recommended that you only invest into Audino's Special Defense, since most Fighting-types are physical oriented and will easily KO Audino even with max Defense. Frailer set-up sweepers and all-out offensive Pokemon, such as Gorebyss, Absol, Pinsir, and Magmortar, appreciate the screen support Audino provides. Set-up sweepers also greatly benefit from Healing Wish, bringing them in safely and restoring their health, giving them a second chance to sweep. Also, slow heavy-hitters, such as Ursaring and Exeggutor, appreciate Thunder Wave support as well. Fighting-types are the biggest threat to Audino, so something that can take them on are great for it. Exeggutor is a prime choice, while Misdreavus can cripple opposing Fighting-types with Will-O-Wisp.

[SET COMMENTS]

With few Pokemon in the tier that can set up Trick Room reliably, Audino is a great candidate. Audino's typing sets it apart from the pack of Trick Room users, and its access to support moves such as Wish and Heal Bell make Audino even more unique. Wish lets Audino heal its teammates, keeping the Trick Room sweep going, while Heal Bell cures any unwanted status. Healing Wish is an option as well, bringing in a teammate safely by sacrificing Audino, fully restoring a teammate's health. Be careful using Healing Wish, though; only use it when you're sure you won't need Audino anymore. Toxic is useful for taking down bulkier opponents, while Protect ensures Audino gets healed by Wish itself. You can make any move combination with the moves listed, just keep Trick Room on the set.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Audino has several offensive moves it can use to avoid being shut down by Taunt, while also being able to KO a weakened opponent. Flamethrower will hit most Steel-, Grass-, and Bug-types hard, while Grass Knot is Audino's best bet against Quagsire and Carracosta. Ice Beam lets Audino hit Dragon-, Grass-, and Flying-types for super effective damage, while Thunderbolt still hits Flying-types, as well as Water-types. Surf can be used for Fire-, Rock-, and Ground-types, Psychic can be used to nail Poison- and Fighting-types, and Shadow Ball handles Ghost- and Psychic-types. Return is Audino's best STAB move available. A Sassy nature and 0 Speed IVs are used to make Audino as slow as possible, while maximizing Audino's Special Defense; investing in Audino's Defense is not a good idea, as any Fighting-type Pokemon can easily OHKO Audino either way. Pokemon that take advantage of Trick Room are obvious teammates for this set. Excellent abusers include Marowak, Rampardos, Octillery, Exeggutor, Eelektross, and Ursaring. Beheeyem is also a great choice, being able to set up Trick Room itself; Beheeyem has access to Nasty Plot help it sweep as well. Both Exeggutor and Beheeyem can handle Fighting-types that threaten Audino as well.

[Other Options]

Audino has a good offensive movepool, both specially and physically, but lacks the offenses required to take advantage of it. It does have access to Calm Mind and Work Up, and can take advantage of its great bulk to boost its stats. Audino's support movepool doesn't fall short of its offensive one either. Audino can set up both Sunny Day and Rain Dance, as well as Safeguard, to support its team. Being able to provide cleric support at the same time makes it a good candidate. Encore can make it easier for a teammate to switch in and set up on an opponent, while Yawn can put the opposing Pokemon to sleep, possibly forcing a switch as well. Sweet Kiss is also an option to confuse the opponent, but confusion is an unreliable status condition. Audino has access to Amnesia as well, boosting its already impressive Special Defense. Lastly, Audino is one of the few BW Pokemon with access to Rest + Sleep Talk. These two moves provide instant recovery for Audino, while being able to use moves while asleep; however, Audino's job is to support its teammates, not to heal itself. Rest and Sleep Talk can also be used on a mono-attacking set with Calm Mind and one of Audino's many special moves.

[Checks and Counters]

Fighting-types are the bane of any Audino set. Sawk and Emboar are two heavy-hitters that will easily OHKO Audino with their STAB Fighting-type moves, while Throh and Gurdurr have no trouble setting up on Audino. Throh and Gurdurr can even abuse the status Audino inflicts, while also being able to cure it with Rest. Another way to completely stop Audino is by using Taunt. Some of the most prominent users of Taunt include Murkrow, Golbat, and Serperior. All three are faster than Audino, can Taunt Audino, and proceed to stall it with Toxic and Leech Seed, respectively. Physical attackers with huge Attack and powerful moves, preferably Fighting-type ones, have no trouble breaking through Audino. Absol, Pinsir, Cinccino, and Braviary are all prime examples of powerful behemoths that often carry Fighting-type moves, while Swellow and Zweilous can mow down Audino with their STAB moves and massive damage output.

[Dream World]

Audino receives Klutz as its Dream World ability. Klutz is useless on a Pokemon such as Audino, and should never be used over the incredible Regenerator; Klutz only makes the user unable to use items. If you're looking for a Pokemon to abuse Klutz, use Lopunny instead; Lopunny has much better Speed and access to Switcheroo.

the first set is 100% worse than licky (admittedly bar regen) and yet this gets by three QCers. Audino should be playing its strengths - dual screens and encore - and not a mon that can only dream of licky's offensive presence.

Then go post in the RU forum as well. The RU analysis lists Wish first too. It's nothing more than the right thing to do, huh? Slipped by QC there too it seems.

It was approved for a reason: namely that because of Regenerator it has a nice advantage over Lickilicky. On another note I'd appreciate it if you watched your tone.

Surf can be used for Fire-, Rock-, and Ground-types, Psychic can be used to nail Poison- and Fighting-types, while and Shadow Ball handles Ghost- and Psychic-types. Return is Audino's best STAB move available. A Sassy nature and 0 Speed IVs are used to make Audino as slow as possible, while maximizing Audino's Special Defense; investing in Audino's Defense is not a good idea, since as any Fighting-type Pokemon can easily OHKO Audino either way.

Physical attackers with huge Attack and powerful moves, preferrably Fighting-type ones, have no trouble breaking through Audino.
