Umbreon (QC 3/3)

[Overview]
  • Amazing Special Bulk
  • Good Physical Bulk
  • Can pass Wishes
  • Can provide support with Heal Bell
  • Otherwise, it has a bad movepool
  • Sort of a set up bait
[SET]
name: Wish Support
move 1: Wish
move 2: Payback
move 3: Heal Bell
move 4: Protect / Toxic
item: Leftovers
ability: Synchronize
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
  • With Wish, it can heal itself and heal teammates by passing on Wishes to them
  • Payback is the best choice for a STAB move for Umbreon to use so that it doesn't get shut down by Taunt. Since Umbreon is slow, Payback will almost always have 100 Base Power
  • Heal Bell can heal any status problems any Pokemon may be suffering.
  • Protect ensure Umbreon a free turn to heal itself with Wish.
  • Toxic can cripple walls such as Slowbro and Zapados.
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • EVs give as much Special bulk possible.
  • Careful further boosts that
  • Yawn can be used to force switches or to put a Pokemon to sleep and it works well with Protect.
  • If you want to use a recovery move just to heal Umbreon, you could use Moonlight.
  • Pursuit is an option over Payback to trap stuff like Azelf, but base 65 attack won't help much.
  • Dark Pulse and a Calm nature can be used over Payback + Careful nature.
  • Pokemon that can take on Fighting-, Bug-, and Steel-types are good teammates (Slowbro)
  • Slowbro can work well with Umbreon as Slowbro can take physical moves and Umbreon can take Special moves.
  • Sableye is also a good teammate as it is immune to Fighting-type move and can burn physical Pokemon that threaten Umbreon with Will-O-Wisp.
[Other Options]
  • A curse set can be used to increase Umbreon's Defense and Attack.
  • Mean Look can trap Special Attackers so that Umbreon can Toxic stall it.
  • Umbreon can also Baton Pass curses to another teammate.
[Checks and Counters]
  • Fighting-types such as Hitmontop can switch in on any move and then threaten Umbreon out with Close Combat.
  • Bug-types such as Escavalier can do the same.
  • Cobalion. Cobalion can come in on any move, possibly get a Justified boost, and OHKO with Close Combat. or it can just set up.
  • If Umbreon isn't carrying Toxic, walls such as Slowbro and Zapdos can wall Umbreon.
  • Bisharp can set up behing a sub thanks to its immunity to Toxic, and 4x resistence to Payback.
  • Registell can toxic stall Umbreon thanks to its immunity to Toxic.
  • Suicune can set up Calm Minds and then Rest off any damage / status problems.
  • Snorlax can set up Curses and then use Rest.
  • Heracross can switch in on Toxic and recieve a nice Guts boost, and can then threaten it out with either of its STABs.
  • Taunt users, especially Swords Dance + Taunt Cobalion wall Umbreon.

Umbreon can Mean Look + Baton Pass to trap Pokemon and then pass on to a specific teammate.
They don't work together anymore in 5th gen, the new mechanics messed it up.

Also mention that Heracross can come in on Toxic get the boost (should it run guts which almost all Heracross should).

Really stress the importance of Wish. Without Chansey, options for wish support are very slim, and despite being a pretty bad pokemon in general, Umbreon is probably the best option if you really need Wish.

QC APPROVED 2/3

QC 3/3. I'd slash Protect first over Toxic by the way because getting that recovery is almost always way more important.

I know this has already passed QC,, but mabye mention Curse in the AC for the last slot? provides a pretty good late game sweeper once counters are gone, and still provides that team support mid-game

^Curse should be OO, it'd make the set too different (plus, curse sucks...).

If anything, I'd mention possibly using Toxic > Payback in AC, as Payback sucks so hard...
