[SET]
name: Unnerving
move 1: Dark Pulse
move 2: Flamethrower
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Protect
item: Chople Berry / Focus Sash
nature: Modest
ability: Unnerve
evs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set outlines the use of Tyranitar on a weatherless team, and makes use of its special attacking capabilities. This gives it merit over a physical set because Intimidate no longer cripples Tyranitar. Dark Pulse is the main STAB move for the set, as it hits many Pokemon for neutral damage and most Trick Room users super effectively. Flamethrower is used to give coverage against Steel-types such as Scizor, Metagross, and Ferrothorn; these threats can all haunt a physical set because Tyranitar no physical options to hurt them significantly. Ice Beam gives coverage against Dragon- and Flying-types such as Garchomp and Thundurus, which can destroy Tyranitar with Earthquake and cripple its teammates with Thunder Wave, respectively. Protect helps Tyranitar work around Pokemon that may threaten it, avoiding all attacks for a turn while a teammate handles the threat.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Without Sand Stream, Tyranitar loses the Special Defense boost provided by sandstorm, making it susceptible to a wider range of attacks. A Chople Berry allows Tyranitar to take less damage from common Fighting-type attacks such as Technician Mach Punch from Hitmontop and Close Combat from anything that doesn't have Fighting-type STAB. A Focus Sash can be used to let Tyranitar survive at least one of these hits, such as a Fighting Gem Close Combat from Hitmontop or Hydro Pump from Ludicolo in the rain. A Modest nature gives Tyranitar a boost in Special Attack, allowing it to perform well in a special attacking role. Although Unnerve may seem like an odd choice for a Pokemon such as Tyranitar, it actually helps Tyranitar function as an attacker on teams that do not want a sandstorm to ensue. However, this doesn't mean that Unnerve comes without further use. It allows Tyranitar to go up against common bulky Pokemon and take them down more easily due to the fact that Unnerve negates type-resistance and health restoration Berries, such as Yache and Sitrus. The EV spread maximizes HP for general bulk allows Tyranitar to take a few neutral hits before it gets KOed, and maximum investment in Special Attack helps Tyranitar hit as hard as possible. Moves such as Blizzard and Fire Blast could be used to hit harder than Ice Beam and Flamethrower at the cost of accuracy. A Quiet nature in conjunction with 0 Speed IVs can be used you are running Tyranitar on a Trick Room team.

With Unnerve, Tyranitar becomes a great partner for sleep, Will-O-Wisp, and Thunder Wave abusers because Unnerve cancels the use of any kind of Berry that could otherwise reverse the status Tyranitar's partner dishes out. Specific status inducers who work especially well are Togekiss and Amoonguss, who can abuse Follow Me and Rage Powder, respectively, to draw potential KOs away from Tyranitar. Because Tyranitar no longer summons sand with Unnerve, it can easily find space for use on on a hail or sun team with Abomasnow or Ninetales. Tyranitar benefits from usage on hail and sun teams because they help Tyranitar work around the rain teams that are problematic to deal with. Prankster abusers, such as Murkrow, Sableye, and Whimsicott, also make great partners as they can neuter physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp or moves that reduce Attack, such as FeatherDance and Charm.

[SET COMMENTS]

This set is aimed to outline the use of Tyranitar on a non-sand abusing team and to abuse the Special Attacking power of Tyranitar. This gives it the merit over a physical set because it helps through off predictions in the face of Intimidate users. Dark Pulse is the main STAB move for the set, hitting many Pokemon for neutral damage and most Trick Room setters super effectively. Flamethrower is used to give coverage to hit Steel- and the uncommon Bug- and Ice-types. Namely, Scizor, Metagross, and Ferrothorn are covered by this move. All of which can easily haunt a physical attacking Tyranitar that doesn't have much of an answer to any of them. Ice Beam gives coverage on Dragon- and Flying-types like Garchomp and Thundurus who could otherwise wreck havoc on Tyranitar with Earthquake or its teammates with Thunder Wave.Protect helps Tyranitar work around beating Pokemon that may threaten it by Protecting while teammates do work.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Tyranitar gets no Special Defense boost like it normally would with Sand Stream as it's ability when active on the field, making Tyranitar susceptible to a wider range of attacks. A Chople Berry allows Tyranitar to take small amounts of damage from common fighting attacks like Technician Mach Punch from Hitmontop and Close Combat from anything that doesn't get it as STAB. A Focus Sash is used to let Tyranitar survive at least one of these hits, from Fighting Gem Close Combat from Hitmontop or Hydro Pump from Ludicolo in the rain. A Modest nature gives Tyranitar the boost in Special Attack to let it perform in a special attacking role. Although Unnerve may seem like an off choice for something like Tyranitar, it actually helps Tyranitar make a role as being it's own attacker and letting it fit on other teams better by not bringing sand where ever it goes. However this doesn't mean that Unnerve comes without finding uses. It allows Tyranitar to go up against common bulky pokemon and take them down easier due to the fact the Unnerve doesn't allow the activation of berries like Yache or Sitrus. An EV spread that maximizes the HP for all around bulk allows Tyranitar to take a few neutral hits before it gets KOd and the obvious full investment in Special Attack helps Tyranitar hit as hard as possible. Moves like Blizzard and Fire Blast could be used to hit slightly harder than Ice Beam and Flamethrower at the cost of accuracy. Type gems for harder hits to get KOs on bulky Pokemon with type resist berries. A Quiet Nature in conjunction with a 0 Speed IV can be used for Trick Room use.

With Unnerve, Tyranitar becomes a great partner for a Sleep, Will-O-Wisp, and Thunder Wave abusers because Unnerve cancels the use of any kind of Berry that could otherwise reverse any status your partner dishes out. Specific status inducers who work especially well are Togekiss and Amoonguss who can abuse Follow Me and Rage Powder to attract potential KO shots away from Tyranitar. Due to Tyranitar no longer producing an auto-sandstorm, it can easily find space for use on on a hail or sun abusing team with Ninetales or Abomasnow. Tyranitar actually benefits from this a lot by helping it get by rain teams which will utterly destroy Tyranitar otherwise by the hands of rain abusers like Ludicolo, Gastrodon, and Kingdra. Prankster abusers, like Murkrow, Sableye, and Whimsicott, can neuter physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp or Attack dropping moves like FeatherDance and Charm.

This set is pretty much the same as the current set on-line but with a different ability, different moves for the 3rd moveslot and no Brave + 0 IVs. They play similarly. Wouldn't it be easier to just combine the two sets together, and mention teammates that work well with both abilities in AC?

name: Physical Attacker
move 1: Rock Slide
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Low Kick / Brick Break / Earthquake
move 4: Protect
item: Chople Berry / Focus Sash
nature: Brave / Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Ivs 0 Spe

Then go one to mention that if using Unnerve, can't use Low Kick, and use Adamant with Unnerve if not running TR.

[EDIT] Fire Blast should be considered for the 3rd moveslot when running Unnerve. It hits most of the Steel-types super-effectively, including all the main ones e.g. Scizor, Metagross, Ferrothorn, and benefits from sun,. Whilst it's hindered by rain, you'd wouldn't be using Brick Break / Earthquake against the Pokemon commonly seen in rain teams anyways (except Earthquake on Toxicroak, but Toxicroak outspeeds and has STAB Drain Punch).

OK well this set is meant for weatherless/non-sand based play styles with Tyranitar. Both sets play totally differently on the teams they're on. An Adamant nature is just to let Tyranitar play outside of TR giving it an easier fit on other teams. I'll mention a Brave and 0 speed IV in AC though. About Fire Blast, it's only really hitting those 3 Pokemon and it doesn't even KO Ferrothorn, so I'm just thinking it's better to have teammates to take those guys out. But if any QC wants to weigh in on Fire Blast that would be appreciated.

Thanks

special ttar with unnerve is good by itself, but the main set should just have unnerve slashed, this isnt a set by itself.

Yeah after talking it over, just gonna add unnerve(as on option) to the main set, but turning this set into a special set. Set is up just need to add the comments and such again ._. I've also gotta say, tyranitar should never be your only answer to things like metagross and ferrothorn though :/

You put 252 atk EVs but you only have special attacks. Gotta switch that to SpAtk or change the moves
