Arena: Potential bug gym
A large network of webs are suspended high in a huge dome. Concrete platforms hold the webs up and allow the trainers to get close to the cage.
-Stone Edge and Earthquake work as normal
-No natural water
-No natural rocks
-Grounded non-bugs have a permanent -1 Evasion and -5 Base speed
-Bounce will fail
-Only bugs and levitating/flying grounds can use Dig and Fly
-All Pokemon may hold a type resist berry in addition to their normal item. This can be consumed by consumption or Bug Bite but not by Thief, Incinerate, or Knock Off.
Well, let's see what Jas brought to beat up Rediamond's bugs.

Tomohawk (Hatchet) (M)
Nature: Bold (+1 Def, -1 Atk)

Type: Normal/Fighting
Flying: Flying STAB; immunity to Ground attacks outside extremely odd circumstances even for ground-based flying Pokemon. Enhanced aerial mobility. Superior senses in open air arenas.
Fighting: Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions of throwing/grappling moves. Superior reaction time in close quarters

Abilities:
Intimidate: (Can be Activated) When this Pokemon initially goes out into the battlefield, it generates an intimidating roar or war cry that shakes all opponents on the battlefield, reducing thier Attack stage by one (1). The attack drop is maintained at the end of each round. If an opponent switches in a new Pokemon, Intimidate can be activated again.
Prankster: (Innate) The Pokemon is always prepared for engaging in sneaky tactics and trickery, giving its non-damaging attacks an increase in priority level.
Justified (DW, unlocked): (Innate) This Pokemon's body reacts to dark energy, invigorating its passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, the Pokemon's attack will increase one (1) stage. A boost gained this way by an opponent's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

(e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) Base Attack Power, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2).

You know, if that coin had gone the other way I feel I could counter any one of those Pokemon. But alas, I cannot going first. Luckily switch is OK, but I hope to not need it.

Anyways, lets start off the way I always do, with my trusty partner Tomohawk.

EDIT: Oh, and an item. From my oh so vast collection. Sharp Beak should do.

And it gets a type resist berry from the arena, so Yache Berry to help fend off that Syclant.

"Welcome to the Verde Insect Reserach Facility. Insects are an astoundingly diverse group of Pokemon that thrive across the world in all kinds of climates. In fact, they even roamed the seafloors a long time ago. In this dome we run tests on bugs in different conditions, in hopes of finding out just what allows them to survive so well. Today, I will be demonstrating one of our rarest specimens in the facility."

As the researcher speaks, a large insect walks into the arena from behind him. It walks upright, and is covered in thick battle armor.

"This specimen is a male Nomen armaldo, a type of insect that went extinct in the ancient past but has been revived through modern science. Here at the Institution, we conduct tests to see what types of environments this species could be reintroduced into in the modern world. However, today we will be demonstrating its abilities in battle. He is currently holding aspecial herb, as well as a Rindo berry to reduce the potency of grass-type attacks that can target his relatively high weight."

The big advantage of a leader is that big pool of Pokemon to choose from. But the randomness of phazing takes that advantage away. You were smart to sub for my phazing moves, but not smart enough to avoid them, even with that mental herb blocking taunt.

Lets lock him into a choice of one of those bugs and put up some rain so Tomo can blow right through the incoming opponent.

Welcome to the Verde Insect Research Facility, I am your host, MrcRanger97!
Today's event is a Gym Match between the Flying Gym Leader Jas61292, and our very own (Hopefully) Bug Leader Rediamond!
Jas61292 Quickly sends out his Tomohawk Hatchet, while Rediamond responds with his very own Diego Armaldo.
Hatchet quickly uses his ability, Intimidating his foe! Eager to get things started, he starts crafting a semblance of himself out of sticks and leaves, he then infuses some of his own life energy into it, making it a reasonable substitute. Diego then starts running across the field, Jumps at the doll, and lashes out with his claws with an Aerial Ace! The doll shakes, but doesn't fade.
Diego Armaldo, sensing his time on the field may be shortened by Hatchet preparing a whirlwind, decides to try to use hax, and Swaggers at the bird. Unfortunately for him, the Substitute absorbs it, and Hatchet remains unconfused. Hatchet fires off his Whirlwind at Diego, which makes Rediamond worry, as he will have no control over which of his pokemon will pop out next.
Hatchet decides to set up for the next couple of rounds and quickly summons some Rain by Dancing! the Armaldo, determined to at least take out that pesky doll, launches a Stone Edge. The doll explodes into a pile of dust, and is no more. The whirlwind then forces Diego back into his pokeball, and Claw the Scyther pops out. What will happen next round? Stay tuned!

"Uh, well, sorry for the difficulties, but it appears as if the program will be continuing now with the introduction of a female Hieradula scyther. This species is particularly rare, and a wild population has only been found inside of the Safari Zone in Kanto. Those massive claws are primarily used in mating rituals, but they can also pack a nasty punch for their prey, as we will likely be seeing from this specimen. While they have the potential to evolve, Scyther will almost never do so in the wild. It is not at all uncommon to see an entire population of Scyther with absolutely no Scizor in it at all."

I can work with this. Not the best situation, but it could be worse. Well, that's berry is annoying though, so lets just break it.

Hurricane - Air Slash - Hurricane

If Sunny Day, use Taunt and push back once
If Bide, replace that action with Substitute (15 HP) and any remaining actions with Whirlwind - Toxic
If Protect, use Substitute (25 HP)

ooc: jas61292, I need a gym team for you vs SubwayJ

"Scyther are well known for being able to employ light hits with incredible percision. They can abuse this to power up weak moves that normally would have little use into deadly finishers. Additionally, they are also well known for being able to manuever out of difficult situations with incredible ease. The following round will demonstrate both."

We continue where we left off, with Claw the Scyther being sent out to replace Armaldo. Rediamond quickly tosses and eviolite and a coba berry to the ninja bug, preparing it to face the menacing Tomohawk.
Claw begins the round by launching a technician boosted Aerial Ace at the bird, hitting it for quite a lot of damage. Hatchet responds by whipping up a mighty hurricane! Claw just eats his berry and shrugs it off, although she did seem to get a little confused by all the winds swirling around her!
Claw, still a little fuzzy from those gale force winds, tries to use U-Turn, but ends up smacking herself in the face! Hatchet launches an Air Slash, but Claw just takes another bite out of her berry.
Claw, managing to focus, uses Aerial Ace again, smacking the bird around to a little under half health! Tomohawk responds with yet another Hurricane, and Claw eats her berry, but she's surprised that it's all gone!
Rediamond managed to do lots of damage that round, but Tomohawk foiled his escape route and broke the berry. Stay tuned for more exciting action!

"Scyther are a very resiliant species that can handle the vast majority of situations they are thrown into. While they are not particularly powerful or bulky, they can make up for this by a combination of speed and unique traits that allow them to survive as fast and efficient hunters. While they very seldom target other flying types, they periodically clash with Dodrio in their home territory. As such, they have learned some tricks for dealing with particularly powerful birds."

Round 3

The universe surely has many mysteries. Is there life out there? Is there a God? and more importantly, what the hell I am doing in an oversized web with no prospective of finding food around?

Rediamond: I don't mean to be rude, but I don't care. Just ref.

Ah thank you for reminding me of this. you adorable you.

We are here on the probably next bug gym with a mock battle that brings me the question: if jas wins this and Red becomes the gym leader, what will happen to the poor children?...erm back to the match.

Claw the Scyther, holding an Eviolite, faces down Hatchet the Tomohawk, getting ready to shred it to little pieces. And Hatchet's Taunt surely didn't help. Claw took impulse and smacked Hatchet with a Wing Attack, and then got another impulse and used its superior speed to get a full hit like the Aerial Ace she is.

But Hatchet wasn't fazed by it. In fact it was busy elsewhere, summoning a fuckton of energy to unleash Katrina 2.0 for insane damage and intense confusion to boot. The mass destruction would do that to me too, so I understand.

Finally, an useless turn. Claw hits self. *facepalm*. And Hatachet cools down. and I yawn.

Tomohawk: Taunt for 10 energy

Scyther is piiiiiissed off.

Scyther: Wing Attack: (9 + 3 + 1.5)*1.5 = 20.25 damage for 3 energy
Crit: 13 (no)

Scyther: Aerial Ace: (9 + 3 + 1.5)*1.5 = 20.25 damage for 3 energy
Crit: 14 (no)

Tomohawk: Katrina: (12*2.25 + 3 + 2 -1.5)*1.5 = 45.75 damage for (7+11)*1.75 = 31 energy
Crit: 4 (no)
Confusion: 26 (yes)
Duration: 3 (4 turns)

Scyther: hit self: 4 damage for 3 energy
Hit Self (1 = yes): 1 (yes)

Tomohawk: cool down

Learn the lesson kid: never just spam a move against a prankster.

Armaldo tries to defeat Hatchet with the old fashioned Aerial Ace, but fails twice, as the Tomohawk got hp back with roost and energy with chill. Before it could try again, Hatchet used Memento, so Armaldo will always know that it will die soon! oohhhhhhhh (don't see the point in showing a fossil that it can die...too late, huh?)

Tomohawk: Roost for 11 energy

Armaldo: Aerial Ace: (6+3)*1.5=13.5 damage for 4 energy

Tomohawk: Chill (+12 energy)

Armaldo: Aerial Ace: (6+3)*1.5=13.5 damage for 8 energy

Tomohawk: Memento for no energy at all.

Salamence, come out now. Scare this bug even more with your intimidating presence. And here, take this Charti Berry and... ummm... Oran Berry? Yeah, my selection of held items is that vast.

If Double Team, Rock Slide the following action instead.
If Knock Off, Substitute (15) that action instead, but only if you don't already have a substitute.

Jasnumbers sends out Roosevelt the Salamence in other to keep the advantage on this match. And it seems like a good plan....if it weren't for the sad sad Oran Berry it is carrying <_<;.

But I digress, moving on to the battle. Hatchet's Memento left Armaldo in a very tough situation, not being able to focus on the battle as it started to remember his life as a fossil. Because of that he is more cautious, protecting every other turn and trying to stop future opponents by spreading Stealth Rocks on the field.

Roosevelt responds with a mighty neener neener come get me you chicken Dragon Dance as Armaldo protects and seizes the opportunity to strike hard at the second turn with Steel Wing, that, to add insult to misery, got a critical hi-BLOCKED BY BATTLE ARMOR FOOLISH ME.

Apparently this is not armaldo's battle. or day.

Rediamond's Turn

Critical Hit is impossible due to Battle Armor

"Armaldo will be taking yet another break now to allow for the third member of today's lineup. Gyneaphora syclant will be taking his place. Syclant are notable for being one of the only insects to deliberately seek out the cold, and it is particularly difficult to keep one in this facility and climate. Indeed, we are quite lucky to have one as none of the five regional Pokedexes even recognize their existance due to the lack of scientific data, and the fact that they only live on a single mountain in the depths of the colony."

Hmm... interesting move there. At a glance it seems to make sense. Send in the ice type vs the Dragon. But obviously with the counter switch allowed, I can just switch to my fire type and burn Syclant. So, I couldn't help but feel this was a trap. But how could it possibly be a trap. Sure I get some SR damage, but I resist both your STABs if I switch, and can have a berry to eliminate a coverage weakness too. How could it possibly be a trap? So, I was about to switch. I mean, it is fairly obvious that in a I have the advantage in Typhlosion vs Syclant and maybe Salamence vs Armaldo, and you have the advantage in the other possible matchups. Switching would keep that advantage. However, I then noticed one little move. U-Turn. With that one little move and protect, Syclant could leave and get Armaldo back in, with normal stats and a favorable match ordering first so I can't switch, and taking little more damage than I take from the Rocks, putting you at a big advantage. So, with the trap discovered, I needed to analyze my best course of action. Nothing really seems favorable, but I will not put that last turns to waste. Maybe I'm over-analyzing things. Maybe had I not said any of this and switched you would had never even thought about U-Turn and I would be fine. But maybe I am right. And with that being said, there is only one thing for me to do.

Counterswitch declined!

I don't care about your Ice. Not bug is gonna stop my Dragon.
