Round 1 Starts!

-------------------------------------------

And we’re off! Rediamond and Deadfox face off with a team of well trained Bug-type Pokemon, as both trainers have overcome far too much to lose now! Rediamond sends out first, choosing Corpus the Heracross as his go-to choice, with a Rocky Helmet, presumably to deter the likes of Acrobatics and Aerial Ace, a move that appears on four out of Deadfox’s five pokemon! Deadfox responds with Syclant, its Mountaineer ability preventing Rediamond from being able to unleash terror with the likes of Stone Edge or Rock Slide at least for this round. Ordering first, Chilla goes on the offensive, unleashing three tech boosted attacks at Corpus, although it is a pity that it is unable to put its powerful flying type moves to use. The Heracross seems unpeturbed, its calm demeanour offsetting to even the spectators. It protects against the CAP’s first Hidden Power fire, which is deflected harmlessly. Chilla smiles wickedly, following up with an Icy Wind that hits Corpus for critical damage! Corpus still maintains a cool countenance, summoning a Rain Dance that should deter Chilla’s Hidden Power. Sure enough, the second Hidden Power does very little even with the Expert Belt, as Corpus finally responds with a powerful Megahorn, with a critical hit to boot!

Rediamond seems to be behind in Energy and HP, but the rain should help mitigate Chilla’s Fire-typed attacks, and that rocky helmet is going to prove instrumental in deterring deadfox from using his Flying-type attacks! Nonetheless, we appear to be off to an exciting battle, and with the offensive Chilla ordering second, as well as Rediamond finally being able to use those deadly Rock-type attacks, this next round should be one of very high stakes!

Round 2 Starts!

-------------------------------------------

And as expected, we enter this round with a barrage of attacks! Chilla opens up the offensive with a 4x SE Technician-boosted Aerial Ace, which deals an unbelievable amount of damage to Corpus. Corpus, cool as ever, replies with a similar 4x SE Rock Slide, taking out a half of Chilla’s health! The Syclant doesn’t take kindly to that, as the ASB Arena is overcome with a spell of icy wind. Corpus looks around, confused, its eyebrows knitting in confusion for the first time. Behind a veil of white, Chilla disappears, its laughter lost in the wind, and Corpus is hit head on with a Blizzard attack! Barely clinging onto life now, Corpus shakes its limbs, dispelling the numbness, and with eyes full of hatred, claws up a rock from the dirty ground and chucks it at the Syclant. Chilla’s laugh barely left its lips as it was hit by the Rock Slide, and she shoots across the slippery ground like a shot ragdoll, hurt from that massive attack. A cloud of dust tags along behind, spinning, dancing with the water. Corpus pants, shivering but still relieved…

As the dust clears, and the rain continues to fall, Corpus raises his head, a cold chill spreading through the bug. Chilla wasn’t there. Corpus picks up another rock, spinning around, desperate, an icy feeling of despair spreading through its—

It wasn’t just despair.

Behind the Heracross, Chilla smiles wickedly. Rain coats her glinting aqua-blue coat in a slick sheen, and Corpus notices his own shadow cast on the ground before it. And then, shadows of the ice spires on Chilla’s back rise, slow, monumental…a wicked laugh permeating through Heracross’ bones as it is struck with yet another Blizzard. It is blown away, far across the stadium, bloodied, battered, bruised and broken.

A medley of images flash past Corpus’ mind. Chilla’s back was turned, emitting proud arrogance. From the stands, Rediamond’s eyes lock with Corpus…

One claw, two, and a roar of fury that explodes through the cleansing shower, Chilla turns around, its grin erased from its face. In the stinging rain, far away, a silhouette of a Heracross that stands on the edge cuts a frightening figure, a pair of determined eyes refusing to back down. Chilla looks up, at the incoming rain, at the rocks…

Pitter, patter, pitter, patter.

Round 3 Starts!

-------------------------------------------

Bones surveys the half-dead bug in front of him. Cocking a head to one side, he looks at Corpus, as it wavers there just standing still. He lets out a refreshing coo, enjoying the rain that he is accustomed to, but it is swiftly drowned out completely when Corpus lets out a fierce cry, as its blood surges with anger and hatred, fresh with the strength of a Moxie Boost. Shrugging as much as an Armaldo can, Bones sets up a large Substitute in front of it. Corpus bares its fists—its only motive now to rip holes in everything that it can. It charges at the doll with all it has, beating it up with a Close Combat attack…but it fails to break. Continuing the setup, Bones goes ahead and summons Stealth Rocks on Rediamond’s side of the field. It smiles, pleased with its handiwork, and watches curiously as Corpus beats the doll like its life depended on it with a high powered Reversal. The doll shatters, and Bones looks slightly offended at the destruction of his handiwork. Thinking himself invincible, the quirky little Armaldo whips up a Sandstorm that banishes the rain. He closes its eyes, pleased that it has once again returned to an environment that reminds him of home…

But Corpus has other plans. Gritting his teeth, enraged at the composed figure in front of him, the Heracross charges forth. Bones appears confused for a second, as he looks around for the doll, but he fails to find it. Tightening his fists, Corpus lets out a roar that knocked the wind out of the spectators, and with every sinew in his muscles and all of the willpower left, he lets loose a Focus Punch combination, knocking the Armaldo straight across the field! Bones flies across the field, but gets up angrily. Heracross stands, staring at the Armaldo, daring him to come, daring him to fight. Corpus chuckles wearily, a hoarse, raspy whisp. But then, as if in slow motion, he leans forward, then backwards, swaying in a trance-like matter…and then falls forward, landing on his face. Corpus is KOd!

Bones cocks his head at the suicidal Heracross. His eyebrows knit at that last attack. Now he’s mad.

Round 4 Starts!

-------------------------------------------

Rediamond recalls Corpus, the exhausted Heracross having done more than his fair share. Smiling at his advantage, he shields his eyes from the sandstorm, releasing his own Armaldo, Diego. Bones, furious at the smashing that he took from a half-dead Heracross, is angrier even more at the audacity of another Armaldo to come into his turf! As he stands, fuming in a barely contained fit, his adversary flies through the air gracefully (for an Armaldo that is). Diego lands in a cloud of dust and epicness, his Battle Armor glinting with Brightpowder, clearly showing in the dusty weather. He tips his sombero and tosses it aside, with all the moves of a slick Mexican dancer. Diego whispers, a soft, prancing purr that sent shivers through all the ladies in the colloseum…

“Nachos…Amigo.”

He drops down on one knee as the Stealth Rocks smash him from all sides, and a collective gasp erupts from the female spectators. But Diego is not to be done in, as he takes the battering, grabs the rocks, and hurls them at Bones in one spectacular Rock Slide attack! Amid the frantic cheering, Bones decided he has had enough of this, and he picks up a noticeably sharper rock and winds his arms back. But the shrieks and boos from the crowd sends his attack swerving, and the brightly coated Diego grins as the Stone Edge misses! Bones, even more angry, now just seems out of control as he tries the same thing again—but his loss of composure comes to bite him, as his second attack misses too! At this point, roughly half of the eyes in the stadium are glued onto Diego, drinking in his handsome muscles, the ladies sweating in heat, as he picks up a straw and holds it in his mouth. Diego carelessly tosses a Stone Edge attack at Bones, but it seems to miss! As the ladies start to realize, in a moment of sheer terror, that Diego may not be the messiah of sex, he breaks into a run, grabbing another rock in the process, and then leaps higher than any Armaldo before. Bones raises his head to see the bug silhouetted against the dusty sun, shining with brightpowder and with moves that he could only dream of. Diego smashes his rival with a Rock Slide, lands on one knee, looking down, straw still in mouth. Behind him, a thump, as Bones drops unconscious onto the floor.

At this point, the hearts of several girls in the stadium give out completely. Diego stands up with his fist held high in victory. Mexican music is then played, and Diego dances, the Armaldo’s butt moving in a hypnotic trance.

At the end of the song, Diego performs a pelvic thrust, and all the ladies within a 1 mile radius are impregnated.

Lanca the Escavalier emerges from its Pokeball in a flash of white, and then boos as the crowd realizes that the new challenger has a type advantage against their beloved Diego. The Armaldo turns around, but not all the way. He glances at the newcomer out of the corner of his eye, sizing him up, but confident in his abilities. The two battlers face each other, acclimated to the dusty weather, both waiting for the other to move first. With a roar, Lanca charges towards the Armaldo, his head primed for impact. Standing still, Diego watches silently as the knight charges towards him, drinking in the lustful watch of the audience. As Lanca approaches, Diego suddenly moves, striking with a clinical strike to Knock Off Lanca’s Link Cable! Nonetheless, Lanca’s Iron Head strikes, slamming into Diego and sending him whirling. The audience gasps, a vacuum of silence permeating through the arena as Diego tries to hold his ground. At last, he stops, and the carefree grin is gone. He lets out a low, menacing snarl, as Lanca watches him impassively. In dead silence, Diego walks towards Lanca and picks up the dropped Link Cable.

“Aye…macarena.”

Diego drops the Link Cable onto the ground, eyes never leaving Lanca, and steps on it. Not fearing the menacing stare of the knight in front of him, Diego whirls around on the ground in a stunning display of dance moves and flair. He looks like a beyblade as the sand swirls around him in a gyre, and the stealth rocks and the remenant of the Link Cable are blown away. Now that’s one sexy Rapid Spin! However, Lanca cares not for fanservice, clearing the show with another Iron Head. this time knocking Diego, still spinning, clean into the air! As the audience holds its breath, Diego lands onto the ground…and disappears into the ground in a spectacular recovery. Lanca looks around, lost, and is promptly hit by the Armaldo’s Dig.

Diego completes his round of setup, and awaits his trainer’s orders. The round of setup is complete…how will Rediamond capitalize on it?

Round 6 Starts!

-------------------------------------------

Sand specks, sand sheets, sand seas…

Grainy howl of a raspy wind drags its freckled body across its temporary home, it runs round in rings, vultures seeking prey. They find them, masked silhouettes, empty shadows fated to fight in irresolute uncertainty, forcing on themselves a countenance of warriors. The scent of their sweat carries from the sand sticking to their muscles, as the dust clashes into its clones nearby, baton passing the precious smell, until it permeates through the arena as pervasively as the carriers themselves. Fatigue has a certain…tang to it.

Flash of red. Exchange. Refreshing despair and desperation, a deep chilling freeze that starts from the inside and spreads out like food coloring in water. He's resigned, its work and pain for naught, a full house that lost and the red chips and blue chips are gone, swept away to buy someone else champagne and girls, it’s gone, you’re gone. The sand can smell this. The sand knows.

Heat. To him, it doesn’t burn, because burning means that there is fire, and the excruciating pain is the only thing that his mind can be occupied with. How much had been spent to prepare for this loss, how much of it lost. When he fights once again, will he remember this?

Fire is joyous, because it dances around like a child around a campfire, carefree with a clear voice, untouchable. There is nothing that can resist its spirit--one could say that it’s almost…contagious. The sand burns, driven away by the madness but unable to escape, it quickens its speed, burning and swirling around, like fireflies.

One too many hits him, and he catches fire. But some devil of bravery possesses him, and he tries anyways. He has lost, but he is honorable and there is no shame in losing after giving it all. But he has lost, and the sand knows this.

A fire so hot it’s white. A fire so fiendish that Lanca feels cold, cold because he doesn’t want to feel anything anymore and cold because he knows of the loss. But there will be a next time. He will be back, and as he falls to a cascading cleansing fire, he thinks that to himself. This is not the end.

But for now it is, and the knight is gone, defeated fairly, dropped, fallen. He is returned, and one battler leaves, not in despair, nor in anger, but in disappointment. As for the other…

That is not our quarrel, say the sands. We are done, this is done.

Let us draw our vision back, far back. The stadium, filled with people like an anthill, cheering for the victor. Within the indomitable stone walls, a storm abates, a veil is lifted. It is a field that has seen much but understood nothing, a blank canvas upon which art is dreamed of and created. A white symbol slowly reveals itself, like a rainbow shyly peeking out to see the going mist. It is success, failure, hope, despair. It says to us that dreams could come true, and still can. It shouts for adventure, in everything that it entails. It is a soft whisper of encouragement, telling us to keep going, that something is out there that awaits you and you alone.

An outline of a Pokeball is always an invitation for us to find out what lies within.
