GATR TIME! (OU Rain Offense Team)

I never had a really good Rain team before. There were too many things to choose from and just 6 spots avalaible(5 with Politoed) and I didn't know what to choose for the team to work at his best. What is interesting about this team is Feraligatr that is surprinsgly good in this meta , a lot of teams are unprepared for this beast.

TEAM BUILDING PROCCES
I wanted to built a team around a really interesting core I've found on forum(credit for this core goes to PryorConvictions). It was a core containing 3 water types: Politoed , Keldeo and Feraligatr.

Then I slapped 3 other random mons that works good in and for rain. First was Tornadus-T because it is obligatory in a Rain Offense Team.

The weakness to Electric and Grass was obvious so I added Ferrothorn to help with synergy and for hazards.

And lastly I added Dugtrio to trap other weather inducers. IDK what it was in my mind to add Dugtrio without a spinner. Focus Sash Dugtrio was really meh with the lack of a spinner.

The team was kinda good but there were some problems. First Dugtrio , with the lack of a spinner, he doesn't perform so well. OFC I could add a spinner but i really didn't want another water mon (Tentacruel or Starmie) and Donphan or Forry didn't looked so appealing to the team. I replaced Duggy with LO Tank Latias to help me with the sun teams.

The team looked better after those changes. But something I didn't liked... weakness to Ferrothorn + sometimes having 3 water types gives you hard time. All my water types had a fighting move but i risk a KO from Ferrothorn's Power Whip. So I decided to remove one of my water types. I decided to say bye-bye to Keldeo , because I had to many Special Attackers. I replace him with another fighting type: Techinloom , a pokemon that add some usefull resistance to the team.

Keldeo was my Scarfer , so I needed a new one. The Pokemons that was chosen to be scarfed was Latias...but because I'm founding Latios a better scarfer i replaced Latias with Latios.

The Team

Politoed @ Choice Specs
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
If you want a rain team you need Politoed. This is my favorite Politoed set: Choice Sepcs Rain Boosted Hydro Pump hits like a truck. Yeah , it's not even close to the power of Keldeo or Starmie but still 2HKO most Deoxys-D. I usually lead with him because rain is very important for team. I'm using HP Grass because it lets me beat Gastrodon (rare) and kill weakened Water types. 252 HP let's him survive some hits so he could spam more Hydro Pumps/last longer in weather war. Random fact: Choice Scarf Modest Genesect with Attack(not special attack) Boost fail to OHKO this Politoed with THUNDER and Politoed OHKOs back in the rain!

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Spd / 4 Atk / 252 SAtk
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- Rain Dance
This is a weird Tornadus-T set , isn't it? If I lost the weather war and his weather inducer is death too (or if I need to screw some sun/sand abusers like Venusaur) Rain Dance Tornadus-T is here to save the day. After he summon the Rain he could: a) U-Turn for into another Pokemon to finish the oponent or b) SPAM HURRICANES! I also choosed Superpower over Focus Blast to nail Heatran and the Pink Blobs and because i hate miss! He is my only SR weak Pokemon but Regenerator kinda makes for it and it doesn't really need a spinner to perform well.

286.png

Breloom @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Spore
- Low Sweep
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
This guy! THIS GUY IS AMAZING! It's great against Hail , Sandstorm and other Rain teams. I prefer Low Sweep over SD because it gives another STAB to abuse , it lowers oponent's speed so I can kill it after switch (with SR it 2HKO Tornadus-T on the switch). Prority Technician Mach Punch is cool to weaken threats and let's Feraligatr beat them easily with Aqua Jet. 100% sleep inducing move is also cool so if something looks dangerous to my team => put it asleep. Bullet Seed is obvious Grass STAB that is boosted by Technician so after 2 hits it's something like base 75 Power Grass type or even more if he hits more than 2 times (187 BP if Bullet Seed hits 5 times!). Breloom also benefits from rain , so he is no more weak to fire so bonus for Breloom!

Spr_5b_381.png

Latios (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Trick
This Pokemon is really helpful for this team. It outruns Scarf Keldeo , Scarf Terrakion , Venusaur under the Sun and KO them most of time before they punch holes though my team. Because Fire Moves are nerfed under the Rain HP Fire doesn't really help Latios to KO Scizor or Genesect on the switch , and dpes nothing to Ferrothorn so I think Surf is better for Latios in this situation. Surf gets Pseudo Boost to hurt harder steel types that resists Draco Meteor (except for Ferrothorn and Empoleon and lol Dialga) , also he is not walled by Heatran. Trick is there to make useless walls that Latios can't pass like Jellicent or Ferrothorn.

598.png

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Bulldoze
- Power Whip
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
When you use a rain team , things like Starmie or Kingdra become really scary. Ferothorn is here to be sure Kingdra will not spam his moves to my team. BUT because Kingdra means Magnezone we should have a surprise for him , shall we? Bulldoze is here to laugh in the face of Magnezone. Power Whip is to hurt some Water types or even to score some KOs agaisnt some weakened mons. And because every team needs SR , there is SR and Twave is helping a lot to be easier to revenge things like Scar Latios.

Spr_5b_160.png

Feraligatr @ Mystic Water
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Aqua Jet
- Crunch
- Superpower
There it is - the star of the show. Who needs Sheer Force? Feraligatr is a SHEER FORCE! After a SD and with rain support, Aqua Jet will hit everithing like a truck! With 252HP you had enough bulk to pull a SD and to survive some hits. After his primars checks are removed or weakened enough , start spamming Aqua Jet. With Crunch and Superpower , Ferrothorn and Jellicent , two pokemons that usually stop Feraligatr will die. But what about other bulky water types? They fall to Crunch , after SD , most bulky water types are 2HKO or 3HKO and they can't do much back just spamming scalds... and getting lucky burns. It become even more fun when Feraligatr is in the Torrent range - that's why I'm using Mystic Water and not Life Orb: it destroy the fun of spamming Rain Torrent SD boosted Aqua Jets. But with just Aqua Jet for STAB is safe to use Feraligatr without Waterfall? Well Feraligatr is too slow to do anything with Waterfall anyway. I recomand Feraligatr for everyone , you will not be disapointed!

Final Words
This is the team. Is based a lot around revenge killing , and things like Genesect are easily played by this team. I can't really found a big threat to my team , sometimes HO Volt-turn is hard to play against but is not impossible. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed my RMT , so rate and tell me if there is someting that could work better for team etc.

Hello! I havent done this in a while but Ill try. The one major thing I wanted to say was for Gator. Mystic Water is terrible. It does absolutely nothing. I would change it to a Life Orb and keep the moveset or give Choice Band and just change Swords Dance with one of the Fangs. Fire or Ice Fang seems the best for coverage on this team. Hope this helps.

Forget the Fangs, Ice Punch would be a better choice.

Mystic Water doesn't have a recoil that really cost me some games , and most of time I just spam Aqua Jet so Mystic Water is having some use. Also SD is why I am using Feraligatr and no... Azumarill for example. IMO CB Feraligatr is not so effective as SD that's why SD is on the site and CB isn't. Ice Punch could work but I don't really know what to replace , Crunch or Superpower.

The thing is Mystic Water only increases by 1.1

As long as he is only spamming Aqua Jet after a SD, Mystic Water seems like a decent ideia since Life Orb reduces the gator endurance (and unfortunately even with Sheer Force, Aqua Jet still would activate the LO recoil). And the type enhancing items increases 1.2, the same amount of Expert Belt would, so...

hi i have made a very similiar gatr related team in the past, if you wish to look at it acess my past threads, i have not made many.

I have one real issue atm and thats feraligtr needs life orb to net ko's with all it's moves it would not normally and crunch i found to be rather ineffetive as ice punch was hitting a much bigger threat, drgaonite harder.

crunch is very effective IMO.it hits jellicent for SE dmg but also hits water types for normal damage so i think is really effective , with ice punch i would be forced to switch more often against water types and to pull harder a sweep. dragonite is a problem but feraligatr can't cover all the threats with just 3 moves (SD is the 4th).

mmm hi, good team but you need a spinner all of your teams are affected by entry hazard so put one tentacruel or STarmie for Feraligatr, Keldeo or LAtios. I Like that tornadus-t but if you dont need the rain dance put Taunt that is all xD. GL

water types you say? tbh most out water types are not pokemon you'd like to stay into. starmie has super effective thunderbolt and so dose rotom-w, politoed won't take much damage and i doupt would be staying for anything other than perish song. keldeo is resistant to crunch, tentacruel will spam scald until your burned or switch out, gastrodon is a flat out ko with super power, risking it toxic you for a 2 ko with crunch is not worth, vaporeon is on a similar boat, gyarados takes virtually nothing from crunch or ice punch.

Trust someone who has used a feraligtr team for months on end in the past to peak at 1# with it, ice punch is more effective overall and especially now garchomp is here as aqua jet won't do much with out a boost.

ice water also gets great coverage.

I agree with this idea but Gator wont be switched because the team is around him. Also, where do you see Keldeo?

Hey Allen Blaze i got your request sorry for the late reply!

Your team seems pretty solid and it was hard for me to pick out flaws however i did find some. It seems to me that your team could have a hard time winning the weather war against other weather teams. This is because with a choice item your Politoed will have to be switching in and out a lot, and with no recovery on Politoed or a rapid spinner Politoed can get worn out after repeated switch ins from hazards making it harder to win the weather war. Your team doesn't carry Dugtrio like a lot of rain teams do so you can't trap Ninetales or Politoed which makes it even harder to win the weather war. Also Sub+CM Jirachi looks quite annoying for your team to face because it can set up quite easily on Tornadus-T, Latios, Politoed (especially locked into Hidden Power [Grass]/Ice Beam) and even Ferrothorn to some extent. While he may not be able to set up on Feraligtr, Feraligatr is easily beaten by Jirachi's Thunder(bolt). Behind a Substitute Jirachi has an easy time with Breloom not having to worry about Spore or Mach Punch taking it out while he also resists Bullet Seed. If Ferrothorn has recieved some prior damage Sub DD Dragonite and Sub CM Latias both look quite threatening as well because behind a Substitute they can stop Ferrothorns ThunderWave while Ferrothorn will have a tough time breaking their Substitutes with Power Whip. After a few Dragon Dances Dragonite outspeeds your whole team and can sweep with Dragon Claw while Latias after a few Calm Minds letting it wether hits from Tornadus-T and Latios while koing back with Dragon Pulse.

To help your team win the weather war easier as well as slightly help you against Sub+CM Jirachi i suggest Chesto Rest Politoed>Choice Specs Politoed with a moveset of Scald / Toxc / Perish Song / Rest. With Politoeds great recovery in Rest+Chesto Berry Politoed can stick around for longer helping you outlast other weather inducers. Rest also lets Politoed be a one-time status absorber should you ever need a pokemon to take a Toxic or a ThunderWave. With Perish Song Politoed can help you somewhat against Sub+CM Jirachi, Latias and Sub DD Dragonite forcing them to switch out. The Choice Specs set isn't needed to much on Politoed seeing as with Breloom, Tornadus-T, Latios and Feraligatr your team still applies a lot of offensive pressure, so losing specs on Politoed isn't to much of a big deal. Like i said the defensive set really helps your Politoed last longer and help you stop one of your opponents set up sweepers thats out of hand with Perish Song. Scald is also quite useful on Politoed because if he can get a burn off Feraligatr will have a much easier time setting up.

Now looking at your Ferrothorn i don't really see why your using ThunderWave. While its crippling capabilities are always very nive to have on a team your team is already relativly fast with Tornadus-T, Latios and strong priority on both Feraligatr and Breloom. I think you will be much better off with Gyro Ball>ThunderWave Gyro Ball just provides Ferrothorn with a good stab move in general while it also does good damage to Dragonite and Latias giving them a much harder time setting up on Ferrothorn. Also Leech Seed>Bulldoze is not a bad idea either for Ferrothorn. Ferrothorn will really appreciate the extra recovery that Leech Seed has to offer keeping Ferrothorn healthy to continue to take on assualts from rain teams and Dragon-types. Bulldoze is cool for lowening your opponents speed and letting Ferrothorn get past Magnezone but as i mentioned before your team is already relativly fast so it can't abuse Bulldozes speed drop to much and with smart play Magnezone shouldn't be a trouble. Also rain nerfs the power of Magnezones Hidden Power [Fire] which makes Magnezone not as threatening as it could be anyway.

Good luck with the team i hope i helped!

Seems Superpowerdude has said just about everything I have to say. I actually support Swords Dance on Feraligatr, as it boosts your attack to +2. It would also be your only stat boosting poke. SD is really nice to have, as it allows your Feraligatr to go to a massive attack stat, and with so many people using fast rapid spinners such as Starmie, they nearly always switch out, allowing you to easily predict a switch. That's the only real thing I wanted to say, good luck with the team!
