Introduction

Hello Smogon community this will be my second RMT. The aim of this team is to force switch outs and to trap uses while racking up lots of toxic damage good momentum and lots of revenge kill sweeping opportunities for gyrados

The Team:

make-it-rain-politoed.png

Paul (Politoed) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Sp Def
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Protect
- Perish Song
- Toxic
this is the standard defensive set for politoed in which his main goal is to get a few toxics up and maby a perish song then either die or act as a safe entry fodder in the late game. Why do i use a defensive moveset rather then an offensive? Because it allows me cripple pokemon rather then kill them (killing them being gyradoses job). This set has great synergy with my team as if politoed dies but manages to get up a perish song you can then use dugtrio to both kill the pokemon by protecting away and allow Doug to set up the ever needed stealth rocks.MAKE IT RAIN!

dugtrio-diglett.png

Doug (Dugtrio) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Hp / 252 Spe
Adament (+Atk, -Spe)
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Memento
- Stealth Rock

Dugtrio is a situational member of the team, when faced with opposeing weather pokemon such as tyranitar or ninetales he can usually OHKO them both in one turn. Outside of the weather dugtrio offers use as a kamikaze rocks setup and as a trap killer for the ever present heatrans and volcaronas of the tier.dugtrio finds his synergy with this team through his natural ground typing which provides and essential immunity to electric moves which would otherwise decimate this team, of which dugtrio can either dispatch of himself or be used to safely switch gyrados to deal with the pokemon. Why would i use Memento rather then reversal, simple because earthquake dispatches of the weather problems and electric pokemon and after dugtrio has outlived his life span he often becomes setup fodder to dragonite or salamence i SAY...NO MORE now he cripples them and gives cloyster the chance to SMASH (he...he...he) through the opposing team.

tentacool-tentacruel.png

Trent (Tentacruel) (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -SpA)
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes
- Protect

Tentacruel another essential member of this team for both endgame toxic stalling or spinning away those pesky entry hazards. Tentacruel Is an Essential Pokemon Being it either his amazing bulk or that fantastic ability tentacruel is a staple for this team in his ability to not also remove enemy hazards but for also being able to lay down his own toxic spikes while there setup switches out. Although tentacruels typing does add yet another layer of electric weakness and a second psychic weakness his benefits far outway his fallings in his greatly needed supporting role and his walling capability. On a side note he holds black sludge so as to hurt any pokemon wanting to make him trick fodder.

Angus (Amoonguss) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 52 Def / 152 SpDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Clear Smog
- Gastro Acid

Why oh why does he have Gastro Acid over Sludge Bomb or stun spore, simple Amoonguss isn’t some sweeper, Amoonguss is a wall. With a 4* resistence to grass types, 2* electric and 2*water he makes a great glue.great bulk AND access to regenerator AND access to spore AND access to clear smog its no wonder why amoonguss is so essential to changing the momentum of a game in my favour (I know that was a terrible run on sentance). Amoonguss is all about switching in disableing a pokemon and allowing a safe switch in for cloyster and a forced action switch in the anticipation of cloysters shell smash if not *hopefully sweep

cloyster.png

Clark (Cloyster) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Skill Link
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 152 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Spear
- Shell Smash
- Razor Shell

Cloyster my primary sweeper capable even without support takeing out an entire team of dragonites :P. Why would I give cloyster a Focus Sash simple because his spdef stat his pitiful and all to many times I have prepared for a sweep only to find an idiot with a sp atk gyrados ruin my poor cloysters fun, with focus sash he now has a gaurentee of getting at least 1 shell smash. When faced with the common dragon/flying pokemon or dragon/ground cloyster quickly finds his enemies grovelling at his almighty priority S.T.A.B ed ice shard bringing them down. Thirdly although Cloyster may have yet another weakness to electric type moves this insanity is justified by his focus sash and the fact that any S.T.A.B ed sp Atk that hits for at least neutral damage would useually OHKO him. Why does cloyster have Razor Shell over Rock Blast? Because in the rain it gains an additional 1.5* boost as well as stab which rock blast gets neither, it also has the possibility of aquireing the Def drop(50% chance), should it come across a poke cabible of walling cloyster he can hope for a Def drop with shell smash.

gyarados.png

Gary (Gyrados) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adament Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang

And finally we have the centerpice of the team. This set utilizes the weakening that residual wear and tear from toxic and cloyster should have presented to allow Gyrados to sweep teams after a sacrifice to the pokemon gods (late game).Gary is a boss he doesn’t give to flying/water F*** about his teams yet another weakness to Electric moves he just roles in and waterfalls them to death even your 5 year old neighbour will agree this guy is a badass mofo. Gyarados generaly shouldn’t use anything other then waterfall unless outside of the rain or other exceptional cicumstances.

The Big Bad Threats

although this team does have many pivitol pokemon: dugtrio, amoonguss and tentacruel .If one of these pokemon was to somehow die (which totally never happens) then everything will fall to poo.many dangerous threats include other weather teams especially sun as venasaur w a stat boost becomes a boss of his own rights. This team suffers immensely at the hands of scarfed keldeo as no pokemon can outspeed it on this team. my team gets its anus licked by Ferrothorn whom have access to an anoying typing along with a bitchy movepool. This team also gets harassed by rain dance teams ie kingdra who with an extra turn up its sleeve gets prity dangerous especially considering its no outstanding weaknesses and its 4* resistance to water moves

Tactical Notes:
  • the best ways to kill GOD DAMNED FERROTHORNS is to either perish trap them or force swithes with a spore before cloyster smashing it up.
  • when dealing with kingdra often the solution lies within simple perish traping, if dugtrio or politoed is gone then may pokemon jebus help you all.
  • be rash with dugtrio as this blighter is in trouble when sr are up and most certainly has a useby date, should you have to retain him make sure to memento hime to cripple.

Thank you for reading this RMT if you have any questions especially suggestions then either inbox me or just post a comment. Please rate, like and friend me :P im looking forward to recieving some good hinters smogon community

Hey there,

Your rain team looks pretty good but there are a few notable flaws. One of these is your overreliance on water type pokemon in your team. This will have quite a few negative effects on the success of your team. Offensively, your two sweepers will have a very hard time getting past Steel / Grass / Water type walls, of which there are very many in the tier. You have nothing to take down Ferrothorn / Rotom-W, two of the most common walls players use to handle Rain. Celebi with Psychic coverage is also a hard nut to crack- as it can OHKO Cloyster before it even sets up. Having many water types will also be trouble. You have 4 pokemon weak to electric, and only 2 pokemon that resist / are immune- making your team very weak to pokemon like Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, who, at +2, OHKO's all but Amoonguss with Tbolt / HP Ice. Rotom-W's Volt Switch will also be a huge pain. Offensive Grass types like Venasaur or Breloom can also tear huge holes in the team. One of the best things you can do to help your team fix this problem is to replace some of the water types with pokemon that have better synergy with the rest of your team.

Let's solve your team's problem of wallbreaking first. ScarfDos and Cloyster are your two sweepers, but they are countered by pretty much the same things, so you'll want a pokemon that can beat those walls instead. I think you should definitely replace Cloyster with Agility Thundurus-Therian. Thundurus-T is great at smashing the walls that Gyarados can't get past- walls such as Rotom-W, Ferrothorn or Skarmory. It also helps patch up your electric / grass weakness by being immune to one and resistant to the other.

642-therian.png

Thundurus-Therian @ Expert Belt
Timid / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Agility / Thunder / Hidden Power Ice / Focus Blast

Thundurus-T is an awesome wall breaker / offensive sweeper because of its power and coverage. It can nail most walls at their x4 or x2 weak spots, and KO them so the rest of your team can function with less pressure. Its massive speed after an Agility can also let you tear down Hyper Offensive teams, KOing or at least severely damaging the opposing sweepers who are not used to and not bulky enough to take your heavy attacks. By breaking down the tier's common walls and secerely crippling offensive teams, Thundy-T can certainly be of a huge help to your team. Agility is of course so you can boost your speed to unoutspeed-able levels, and then spam Thunder, which has powerfect accuracy in Rain with monstrous power and a sweet paralysis chance. Hidden Power Ice and Focus Blast are your coverage moves- 2HKOing or OHKOing most things that like to come in on Thunderbolt. Expert Belt and Max Spe / SpA gives you as much offensive prowess as possible, and lets you feign Choice.

Thundy-T really helps patch up a lot of the weaknesses of the team, but there are still a few things that must be fixed. Lati@s and Dragon types can become very annoying as you lack a Steel type to check them. Pokemon like Salamence or Dragonite can be revenged by Gyarados, but Scarfed attackers like Scarf Latios can tear big holes fast. For this reason, I think it's a good idea to at least give Dugtrio a way to nail these pokemon. I'd suggest you try Stone Edge over Protect on Dugtrio. You don't really have any use for Protect, so it's pretty much just an effective use of a moveslot. Stone Edge, on the contrary, helps Dugtrio nail Therians like Thundy-T, as well as revenge pokemon like Volcarona, DD Mence / Nite, or even Lati@s if they are low enough at health. Stone Edge lets you hit levitators, so you're not setup bait. You can also try Sucker Punch instead of Memento, as SPunch hits Lati@s like a truck, enough for an OHKO to Latios iirc (if not, definitely a 2HKO). Also, use a Timid nature to outspeed base 110's and 115's. One of Dugtrio's biggest assets is its speed, and you should take advantage of that. Dugtrio is a very important member because it traps opposing weater inducers and Terrakion- all of whom can be big threats.

You could also try Ice Beam on Politoed to hit Lati@s since you can survive one Draco Meteor, and cleave off some HP. Ice Beam also hits grass types / ground types / flying types / other dragon types, and makes Toed hard to set up on.

On Tentacruel, use Substitute or Toxic over Toxic Spikes. Your team is not bulky enough to be able to Stall opponents down to make good use of Toxic Spikes. Substitute or direct Toxic lets you quickly stall down opponents / walls and weaken them so a sweeper can revenge.

On Amoonguss, Stun Spore is probably better than Gastro Acid. Stun Spore lets you shut down opponents even after you Spore, making it cery hard for your opponent to choose effective Anoonguss switch-ins. Stun Spore can also cripple opposing sweepers, and but Thundy-T the chance to set up. Gastro Acid is kind of an unviable move as it wears off when your opponent switches out and rarely helps Amoonguss. Also try a spread of 252 HP / 28 SpA / 228 SpD Calm. This gives you much more special bulk so you can tank the hits of special attackers when needed. It also lets you use amoonguss as a great special wall. You don't need any extra Def because Tentacruel already handles it.

Finally, on Gyarados, use Jolly instead of Adamant. You need the extra speed to outspeed Dragonite and to beat as many threats as possible. The teeny bit of power loss is mitigated by Moxie.

Good luck!

thanks for the extensive review i will have to trial thunderus over cloyster as i do most certainly need a sp atker however i dont believe that i will replace amoongusses gastro acid for stun spore this being that stun spore only has a 75% accuracy and means that should they attempt to predict a stun spore switching by simply staying in i can still cripple them, it should also be noted that even with maxed def for tentacruel his sp def is still lower then his def. dugtrio acts secondarily as being able to perish trap this relies heavily on longevity ergo the need for protect. thanks that review i will attempt to make adjustments
