When Keldeo and friends wish up double stars

When Keldeo and friends wish upon double stars!
Hello, and welcome to my first ever RMT! I am eager to put my team out there and get constructive opinions from the smogon community, which was recommonded to my by one of my friends as a way to get help and become better at Pokemon! Without Further Ado, here is the team:

Chancey Donphan Keldeo Jirachi Starmie Dragonite

This team took several hours for me to come up with, and so in order for me to kind of show you my train of thought, i am going to put the pokemon in the order i thought to add them to my team. I have tested this team a bit on Pokemon Showdown and it hasnt lost yet (though i havent played an extensive amount of games with it.

Donphan came first due to the fact that every other time i had tried to make a team that day, i always felt that if i had a donphan my team would do much better. Donphan is first and physical part of my defencive core. He can play a few roles on the team. He sets up stealth rocks, spins away other hazards, and to put the icing on the cake, he gets a priority move allowing him to become a revenge killer to pokemon with low health. During testing Donphan has done his job and put down stealthrocks and spins away hazards, though he usually faints before doing to much damage to the opponents team.

Chancey was my first thought for the special defence of my core. I had originally tried out heal bell instead of seismic toss so that i may have a cleric for my main attacker, but after seeing how little stalling chancey can do to toxic immune teams without seismic toss, i changed the set back. The choice between Chancey and her big sis Blissey was a matter of personal opinion. I feel that the extra bulk will help me in the end, and i have wish to heal me. I havent had a problem with Chancey without leftovers. Chancey's main role is to pass HUGE health to keep my team alive and running.

-Hidden Power [Electric]
When looking for the main point and focus of my team, i made sure that Keldeo didnt clash with my defencive core. Donphan takes any electric moves while Chancey takes the special moves like psychic. I didnt choose the choice sets because i didnt like the idea of having my point stuck on a move and being forced to switch out, whereas the calm mind set also adds special bulk which is an added bonus. Keldeo also had an advantage that other canadids did not. Weather runs rampid in OU (a certain frog comes to mind), and Keldeo has the means to deal with it. It gets boosted in rain, while it has type coverage that naturally deals with the type of pokemon in the other three weathers. Overall Keldeo has been a solid choice and shines on the team.
Edit 1: With suggestions from Articblast and Electrolyte, i'm changing Keldeo's Hidden Power from Ice to Electric. This allows Keldeo to deal with the threat of water types better, such as Jelicent. Although this leaves Keldeo more suspectable to grass, i have other pokemon that can deal with grass types such as Dragonite.

I had decided that since i did not want my Keldeo to be scarfed, i felt that i needed a pokemon to fill the role in order to be able to outspeed and revenge kill. I tend to use Jirachi more as a lead because i can use my coverage to hit supereffective and force their lead out, or i have the ability to u-turn out into a more appropriate counter for what's out on the field, or even Donphan to set up with it's safe. Jirachi then comes into play later in the game and manages to deal damage. Jirachi has saved my from plenty of situations and has not let me down in testing.

This was the hardest role to fill in my opinion. As i looked into Keldeo's counters, i realised i needed to be able to handle Latios and Starmie. As i thought, it occured to me, why not use one of my own? Originally i had wanted to use a bulky Starmie without rapid spin, but a friend advised me to go full offensive to more appropriately deal with the counters. At first I was worried about redundency of having two special attack water types, but Starmie has proved worthy of this slot during testing. An advantage to using starmie is access to the BoltBeam combo.

-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Extremespeed
-Fire Punch
Dragonite was the last, and probibly the most hasty choice i made on this team. I was discussing my team with a friend for a few minutes and he suggested the use of Dragonite. I had been fealing that my team was starting to become to special orientated, and so i welcomed the option of having a physical tank such as Dragonite. With multiscale he doesn't go down easy, and through +2 priority of extremespeed, his speed isnt neglected. Plus if Donphan can keep Stealth Rocks off the field, Chancey can continuously feed Dragonite health and keep his Multiscale up. Dragonite has proven to be effective in testing.
Edit 1: I changed Dragonite from a choice band set to a Dragon Dance set on the recommendation of Electrolyte. As he pointed out, being able to switch in between fire punch and outrage allows Dragonite to beat through defencive cores more easy. The set also gives Dragonite more speed, which helps against sun teams.

Testing Options:
-During the creation of my team, i had concidered using Kyurem Black instead of Dragonite. I had tested this and found that i had equal success. Kyurem gives up priority and coverage in favor of mind blowing power, especially if he can get a freeze shock off.
-Electrolyte suggested that I use a sashed Alakasam in place of Starmie, and so i will test this to see if he pulls the role off better.

Thoughts on the team: During testing, Kyurem Black had given me a scare as it troubled my team a bit, but i was able to contain him eventually. Starmie still seems redundent, and so i would like a replacement for him. I was thinking along the likes of a rotom wash or something (though that would ruin the title i gave my team, but oh well).

Changes to the Team:
-3/21/13 Changed Keldeo's Hidden Power to Electric, Changing Dragonite from a choice band set to a dragon dance set.

If you read my first RMT to this point, I thank you for taking the time to do so, and if you reply with constructive feedback i give even more thanks! Have a good day and may the hax gods ever be in your favor!

Hey, I don't have time for a full rate, but you should probably run Hidden Power Electric over HP Ice on Keldeo. This allows you to hit Jellicent, defensive Politoed, opposing Keldeo, and Gyarados much harder. At +1 with a Life Orb, very few things will want to take a Hydro Pump except some of these guys.

Hey there!

This team looks fairly solid, but there are a few things I would like to touch upon. Sun seems like a road block for this team's success, as you don't have much that can defeat Grass types, especially when they get a +2 boost in Speed. Venasaur, Lilligant, and Volcarona all threaten this team with their powerful attacks. Some physical Sun sweepers like Darmanitan or Victini can also do quite a bit of damage to your team. Ghost types can also be a pain, especially Gengar. It can easily set up on Blissey / Donphan, use Disable to beat Jirachi and Dragonite, and use Shadow Ball to KO Starmie and Keldeo. You might also have some trouble breaking through some defensive cores- FerroTent, FerroCent, Skarmbliss, and CeleTran all seem like they can wall a considerable portion of this team.

One thing you do to try to fix some of these issues is to make Dragonite DDDnite.

149.png

Dragonite @ Lum Berry
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Adamant
Dragon Dance / Outrage / Extremespeed / Fire Punch

DD Dragonite solves a lot of your problems simultaneously. Got a Sun weakness? Dnite x4 resists Grass and x2 resists Fire and Bug, and with Fire Punch, can easily KO Grass types. It also has a Lum Berry so any attempts to put your Dnite to sleep will be thwarted. DDance Dnite can also handle Gengar much more reliably- as it can tank a Shadow Ball or two and OHKO with Outrage / 2HKO with Fire Punch. With the ability to switch between Fire Punch and Outage, it can easily dismantle defensive cores, unlike the Choice Band set. Dragon Dance is the main key to success here; it provides Dragonite with a way to boost its offenses and then sweep. The set sacrifices some of your band set's defenses for more speed and attack power. It still keeps its ability to hit things quite hard with Extreme Speed, but now it can also sweep.

Another thing I think you can try is Sash Alakazam instead of Alakazam. It is faster, has better coverage, and can be used as a panic button whenever things get out of hand. It also has the advantage of not being weak to Grass and Electric. However, it lacks Starmie's power, so it can probably can't counter Lati@s / Starmie as well as your current Starmie- however, this is not a problem, as you have Chansey and Jirachi, two hard counters to those pokemon. Alakazam, on the other hand, has some pretty great advantages over Starmie. It doesn't get worn down, so it can continuously switch in and take out threats. It hits with Psychic / Ghost / Fighting type coverage, which hits everything in the tier quite hard.

065.png

Alakazam @ Focus Sash
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid
Psyshock / Shadow Ball / Focus Blast / Hidden Power Ice

Alakazam is extra security against the threats I mentioned, and it can also bring some useful things to the team. It's faster and immune to indirect damage, and the sash guarantees you at least two hits against any slower threat you meet. Alakazam's coverage lets it reliably KO pokemon like Gengar, Jellicent, Celebi, Ferrothorn, Tentacruel, Amoongus, Slowbro, and even Lati@s and Starmie, all of whom give Keldeo trouble. Its speed and 'durability' allow it to have large, lasting impacts on the outcome of your matches. Psyshock is your STAB move, and it can OHKO nearly everything weak to it- including Keldeo, Terrakion, Amoongus, or Venasaur. Shadow Ball is coverage, letting you nail Ghost types and other Psychic types. Focus Blast lets you hit Dark types like Hydriegon / Tyranitar for an OHKO. HP Ice nails Dragons as well as Ground / Flying types.

Lastly, I second Arcticblast's idea of HP Electric over HP Ice on Keldeo. It lets you hit Gyarados, which is currently a big offensive threat to this team. HP Electric can also be useful for hitting Politoed, Vaporeon, and Jellicent decently hard.

Good luck. I hope I helped!

I think at this point i'll switch the HP ice for Electric. Seems like a great idea! I also realize that DDnite would help, because if set up it can outspeed a lot, so i will also make that change. As for alakazam, he sounds good in theory, so I will test him out inplace of starmie, then see which one i like better in the spot. Thanks for the feedback!
