Arena = Muckraker Swamp
Field Type: Ground/Water/Poison
Complexity: Moderate
Format: All

Restrictions: None

Description:

This old bayou is the home of the lowest scum on earth: paparazzi and attack journalists. Don't be surprised if the next candidate for the Edward R. Murrow Award shows up with his flash camera. Deep in this scummy pond, the Kingfisher scuttles about doing his dirty deeds and everyone follows. But enough about the history, Muckraker Swamp is used for a reason: it has the ideal topography for finding sleaze.

The bayou is about two (2) feet deep in swampy muck. The muddy material is interspersed with trees whose roots delve below the floor. Their leaves provide a kind of canopy for the arena, but the actual spacing between each tree is fairly large, about fifteen (15) feet each at the bases. Although the arena is moist, the ground underneath the muck is solid enough for seismic attacks to work. The muck disgusts Pokemon that aren't used to it, and will inflict Toxic Poisoning on any Pokemon that doesn't learn Mud Sport, Mud-Slap, Mud Shot, Mud Bomb, or Muddy Water in its Level-Up movepool. The only other alternative is flying or floating above it, or otherwise being immune to Poison. Be careful though, as if the Pokemon is knocked in the swamp (hit by a Weight-based or Size-based move from a Pokemon two (2) weight/size classes above it, or by a "throw" move), it will be inflicted with Toxic poisoning.

Cupra [cuivre] (F)
Nature: Adamant(+Atk, - SpA)
Type:Bug - Bug STAB; more mobility in dense brush or forest conditions. Gains one extra attack on multi-hit moves, with a cap of five (5).
Psychic - Psychic STAB; less susceptible to blinding, more susceptible to sound-based assaults as far as locking on with Psychic attacks, can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:

Shield Dust: (Innate) This Pokemon has dust covering the outside of its body that prevents opponents secondary effects from taking place (eg burn from Flamethrower). It does not block direct status moves (such as Thunder Wave.)
Keen Eye: (Innate) This Pokemon has extremely good vision and cannot have its accuracy lowered by an opponent through any means (including accuracy lowering attacks, Smogs, Hazes, Fog, etc.). Its attacks are still affected by an opponent’s evasion and the Pokemon's own accuracy.
Illusion (DW): (Innate) Whenever you send this Pokemon out, it can feign the appearance of another member on your squad. If this Pokemon is damaged by a direct attack, the Illusion will cease at the end of the round. Direct damage is any attack that does damage to the Pokemon's HP. Attacks that are evaded, blocked via Protect, or damage a Substitute are not considered direct damage. It will retain the typing and moveset of the Pokemon with Illusion. [Usage Note: PM the ref if you are sending out a Pokemon with Illusion with the info on said Pokemon and one of your squad members in a Switch=KO battle. You must use that squad member later in the battle though.]

Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:
Synchronize: (Innate) Pokemon with this ability mentally link their condition to an opposing Pokemon and pass on any status inflicted on them to their foe. Due to their body structure, Poison types cannot be poisoned and Fire types cannot be burned in this manner.
Trace: (Can be Activated) This Pokemon can copy an ability of the opponent and replace Trace for six (6) actions. Wonder Guard cannot be Traced.
Telepathy (DW locked): (Innate) This Pokemon has a mental link with its allies in multiple allies, allowing it to avoid taking damage from attacks that affect the whole field like Earthquake and Surf.

Nature: Relaxed (+ Def, -Spe, -10% evasion)

Type: Steel/Psychic
Steel: Steel STAB; Immune to Sandstorm, highly insusceptible to toxic attacks, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, can be magnetized. Superior senses in high-metal environments like construction sites or factories.
Psychic: Psychic STAB; less susceptible to blinding, more susceptible to sound-based assaults as far as locking on with Psychic attacks, can lift and throw opponents with Psychic attacks regardless of weight difference. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:
Levitate: (Innate) This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss
Heatproof: (Innate) This Pokemon's mirror-like alloyed skin protects it from Fire-type attacks, reducing the type effectiveness of Fire-typed attacks to the next level of resistance (2x weak becomes neutral, neutral becomes resistance, etc.) The damage inflicted by burns is also cut in half.
Heavy Metal (DW locked): (Innate) The Pokemon's body structure is immensely dense, doubling its weight. When it uses a full-body attack or a weight-based attack it will do more damage, and it will be much harder to lift, throw, or knock back.

Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:
Clear Body: (Innate) This Pokemon’s body structure makes it immune to stat-lowering moves used by opponents. (e.g. Intimidate, Growl, Screech etc.)
Light Metal: (DW) (Locked) (Innate) The Pokemon's body is made of a lightweight but extremely strong alloy. It weighs half as much as other members of the species, but is equally sturdy. The Pokemon executes weak attacks much more effectively, adding +1 priority to all their attacks with 6 or less Base Attack Power (after other ability adjustments). Priority is applied to the summed Base Attack Power of a multi-hit move (e.g. Double Kick has priority at 6 BAP, Skill Link Bullet Seed doesn't at 15 BAP.)

Type: Ground
Ground: Ground STAB; Immune to all electrical attacks, can Dig through almost any substance, Evasive Digging reduced from 3 per action Energy Cost to 2 per action, superior senses in darkened cave surroundings.

Abilities:
Hyper Cutter: (Innate) This Pokemon always keeps its claws/teeth/pincers extremely sharp, and thus cannot have its attack reduced.
Arena Trap: (Innate)
This Pokemon has great knowledge of the field and can always remain close to an earthbound foe no matter where it runs. All Pokemon that are not of the Flying-Type, or possess the Levitate Ability, may not be switched out of battle while this Pokemon is on the field. This Pokemon may still switch out of battle as normal, unless there is another Pokemon on the field with Arena Trap.
Sheer Force (DW): (Can Be Enabled) This Pokemon can energize all its attacks with secondary effect chances less than 100%. When Enabled, the Base Attack Power of every move with an effect chance less than 100% increases by two (2), but they will never have a secondary effect.

A Pokemon can still absorb Toxic Spikes if it has Run Away and is Poison-typed. Run Away does not allow the Pokemon to switch out of trapping moves or abilities, however it can escape other situational trapping strategies in battle.

Tusk, time to order up!

Begin by setting Stealth Rock on our opponent's field. Follow up with Icicle Crash, followed by Rock Slide.

If Ralts uses Will-O-Wisp, Dig to avoid it and move attacks back.
If Ralts uses Encore when you would Stealth Rock, use Icicle Crash to disrupt instead and push your attacks back, after Encore if it succeeds.

Stealth Rock ~ Icicle Crash ~ Rock Slide

IF Ralts Will-O-Wisp, Dig to avoid and move attacks back.
IF Ralts Encore when you would Stealth Rock, Icicle Crash and push attacks back, beyond Encore by necessity if it succeeds.

Welcome to the Muckraker Swamp, where the paparrazi are in a frenzy over the presence of a lady in ASB, who's about to spar with Deck Knight, no less. Thankfully, a decoy leak managed to lure them elsewhere so that the two may battle in relative peace - though the dirty habitat infects Esponce-Ralts immediately upon his entry in battle. ("Hmm, the prey here is uninviting, but at least it's plentiful the deeper I fly...")

Tuck-Swinub seems to enjoy the mud bath, though, flinging some Rocks to show off his strength, and tossing in some Icicles which actually Crashed into Esponce-Ralts, flinchingthe French. However, it didn't take long for the latter to see through the Facade, pummeling Tusk-Swinub and pulling ahead. Given that the poison may exacerbate right about now, what will Gem order behind the gas mask?

One of the bad things about learning Spanish and forgoing French is that I have no idea what Gem is lilting behind that gas mask - though I can imagine that the language of love does have a vocabulary about strategy and destruction. Deck, however, speaks enough French to know what will happen, so he ordered Tusk-Swinub to set up a Reflective mirror. Upon looking into his own image, Esponce-Ralts realised that his Facade is too false, weakening his resolve to go through with the attacks. So Tusk-Swinub immediately took advantage of that to Dig under and Crash a stalagmite-Icicle from below - thank goodness it didn't hit.... right there. By golly, the words Esponce-Ralts fired off... Must've been pretty Toxic French swearing.

Deck has shown that he still retains some form of instinctual skills, and Gem will have to pull something else from up her sleeve if she wants to outsmart Deck... No, of course not that.

With the appearance of Caldera-Numel, Deck grins wickedly. Unaware of the situation, Esponce-Ralts tried maintaining the Facade by pounding at the new opponent, but suddenly Cladera-Numel's hooves were ablazed as he Charges Esponce-Ralts down twice in quick succession. Down in the mud, finally succumbing to suffocation and intoxication despite his Calm Mind, Esponce-Ralts floats back up, face-down. Returning him with a grim face, Gem clenches her fists, trying to determine the best move to go against the smarmy Deck. Spreading his hands out in mock surrender, Deck returns that look with an easy smile - but she wasn't his real conquest today. ("Got you... Now to bring you up, my potential morsel.")

Notes: Numel should have Toxic poisoning damage since it doesn't have any of the Mud moves in Level-up (It does get Mud Bomb by Egg but that doesn't count), It also calculates Speed based on +2 because of Simple, and the stat boost should be noted in the round summary.

Despite suffering from Toxic, and facing against an opponent immune to it (though Coracier-Bronzor did get scratched by Stealth Rocks), Caldera-Numel continues what his trainer calls "a murderous rampage". ("Pfft, hardly.") Puffing out a Burst of Flames, however, he did not notice that Coracier-Bronzor had Stealthily emulated Tusk-Swinub, scooping up Rocks to throw all over Deck's side of the arena. Both sides then tried to hax each other by Yawning and flashing, but it appears that Gem's seductive Ray actually Confused Caldera-Numel, allowing coracier-Bronzor to get off a good Earthquake that ends the exchange temporarily... I just hope that this doesn't dissolve into a mud-wrestling match, please. It's too hot trying to referee in this hazards suit already. ("Pfft, weak.")

My next Pokemon is really going to BUG you, Gem.

Time to gun our opponents down, Goldeneye!

->

"How do you respond, fair lady?"

EDIT: Yes, account for Heatproof. Doesn't affect my switch.

you forgot heatproof in your calcs.

it should be *1 for effectiveness instead of *1.5.

bronzor should have 5 more HP in that case.

also: staying in battle

Forgot to attach Item to Goldeneye, will do that now with @ Amulet Coin.

"Alright Goldeneye, out foe has taken the bait. Time to get dirty."

Use Mud-Slap, then Levitate Command and finish with Dig.

IF you hurt yourself in confusion, push attacks back.
IF you are put to sleep, push attacks back.

Well, hax never fails. Coracier, get ready to use hypnosis!

Even for a LC match, this battle has slowed down to Snorlax's hibernating inhalation rate. As rocks pelted Goldeneye-Nincada upon his entry, he used some of it to scoop up Mud and Slap it across Coracier-Bronzor's eyeslits. Too busy to shake off the mud, the latter's focus is thrown off balance, and the Hypnotic glance failed with Coracier-Bronzor going off to sleep. However, Deck had Goldeneye-Nincada using this opportunity to take flight instead. I wonder why.... Ah, so this is it. A levitating Dig attack, that actually evades the Flash Cannon fired down the tunnel by Coracier-Bronzor, to strike back instead! Still, this would not last too long, though Gem's blunder does mean that she now has the disadvantage slowly piling up against her...

It seems the hax favours Deck in this round, probably due to his team getting more adapted to the swamp's environment. After all, being the lady Gem is, she possibly wouldn't ever set foot on this place had it not been for this battle. Goldeneye-Nincada continues to dole out hit after hit, while Coracier-Bronzor struggles to get that Mud out of its perception of sight. Will the Silver Winds blow against Deck this time, or will Coracier-Bronzor be Digging an early grave? Whatever it is, I do hope it could rain... This sweltering heat is harassing.
