Around nine years ago, I embarked on a personal project: the writing of a puzzle game called CubeX.

The idea is simple: a platform game in which you need to collect all the cubes on the screen, but each cube alters the screen in a specific way. One might make a platform appear, another one make a platform disappear, and so on.

The game was ready two years later (2001), together with a level editor that, frankly, barely works.

Recently I decided to try to play the game again, but the sound didn't work (everything else did though). It turned out the SB code was incompatible with Windows XP (the game was written on a Windows 98 platform using Turbo Pascal 7.0). After downloading DOSBox, the sound worked, so I decided to share the game with all of you. :)

Here are a few screenshots from version 1.0 (this is version 1.1, which doesn't feature lives... you just play it as much as you want until you get fed up instead of until you die.)

Instructions:

1) Copy the link http://www.geocities.com/xactcreations/CubeX.zip into your web browser and hit ENTER to download the game.
2) Unzip the file into your hard disk.
3) Access the folder you put it in, and double-click on RunCubeX to play the game, or on RunEdit to go to the level editor.
4) README.TXT contains instructions for the game; EDITOR.TXT contains instructions for the level editor (if you decide to use it).
5) Enjoy!

Notes:

1) The game runs at 100MHz clock speed, which is the default speed I used for DOSBox. If you want to make it faster, hit Ctrl-F12 while playing. My computer starts making clicking sounds at speeds faster than this, though, and anyway, a faster setting doesn't benefit the game at all. Ctrl-F11 makes the clock speed even slower.

2) I'm not supporting the game anymore in any way, so if you find a bug, or complain about something, live with it... I'm not going to fix any problem it has. I am also not receiving any new levels from anyone, despite what the game says.

Cool, c/ping it works.

EDIT: Started playing. It's a bit frustrating at first, but a really nice game once you get the hang of it.

Thanks, lol. Yeah, my games are heavily influenced by the 80s, which I call the golden era of computer gaming. Even the sounds were generated by an ATARI emulator. :) It shows how old I am... I have been playing computer games since I was 4 years old... since 1983!
