I had just finished creating my new team, after being thrashed in a LC mini-tournament the night before, going out in Round 1. I wanted to test it out on an experienced LC player. I noticed that Dixie Normas was online, who is, IMO, the 2nd best player ( :P Dixie). I challenged him and he accepted, and what ensued was an incredibly intense battle.
My team (in no order):
Dixie's team (in no order):
Rules: Evasion Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Sleep Clause, Species Clause, Timed Battle
tentaintcool sent out Bronzor (lvl 5 Bronzor).
Dixie Normas sent out Koffing (lvl 5 Koffing ?).
I’ve battled Dixie a few times before, but this is the first time I’ve seen him lead with Koffing. I have no idea what to expect, so I decide to play it safe.
Koffing used Taunt.
Bronzor fell for the taunt!
Bronzor used Stealth Rock.
Bronzor can't use Stealth Rock after the taunt!
Not good. So I can now assume that this Koffing is designed as an anti-lead which leads me to the conclusion that it will carry Flamethrower, as Bronzor is the most common lead.
---
tentaintcool switched in Houndour (lvl 5 Houndour ?).
Koffing used Sunny Day.
The sun began to shine!
The sun continues to shine.
Very nice, that switch put me into an offensive position, which is vital in LC battles. Furthermore I can now unleash a sun-boosted Flamethrower, which is sure to hurt something.
---
Dixie Normas switched in Munchlax (lvl 5 Munchlax ?).
Houndour used Flamethrower.
A critical hit!
Munchlax lost 53% of its health.
Munchlax'sOran Berry restored health!
Munchlax restored 33% of its health.
The sun continues to shine.
Munchlax: 80%
Hm... Not good, Dixie has put himself into a strong offensive position now. I know most Munchlax’s run Earthquake, so I decide to play the least risky move.
---
tentaintcool switched in Bronzor (lvl 5 Bronzor).
Bronzor makes ground moves miss with Levitate!
Munchlax used Earthquake.
Munchlax's attack missed!
The sun continues to shine.
Phew! That’s a relief, neither Pokémon can really do much damage in this situation so I decide this is a golden opportunity to get Reflect up.
---
Dixie Normas switched in Magby (lvl 5 Magby ?).
Bronzor used Reflect.
A barrier was formed!
The sun continues to shine.
Very, very bad move on my part. Once again Dixie takes up the offensive leaving me in a fretful position. Once again I stick with my principal of taking what I assume to be the least risky option. Not trying t overpredict.
---
tentaintcool switched in Houndour (lvl 5 Houndour ?).
Magby used Substitute.
Magby lost 25% of its health.
Magby made a substitute!
The sun faded.
Magby: 75%
Damn, my obvious playing style has backfired, and Dixie’s chokehold of the game is starting to grow stronger. My only option now is to sacrifice Houndour and break his substitute.
---
Magby is tightening its focus!
Houndour used Dark Pulse.
The substitute took damage for Magby!
Magby's substitute faded!
Magby used Focus Punch.
It's super effective!
Houndour lost 110% of its health.
tentaintcool's Houndour fainted.
Dixie 6-5 tentaintcool
Dixie strikes first blood, as a result of some fierce offensive play and good predictions. However Houndour achieved his goal of breaking Magby’s substitute.
---
tentaintcool switched in Diglett (lvl 5 Diglett ?).
Diglett used Earthquake.
It's super effective!
Magby lost 220% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Magby fainted.
Dixie 5-5 tentaintcool
Diglett evens out the scores, however my ScarfDiglett being stuck on EQ will provide Dixie with a great chance to reinstate his offensive playing style.
---
Dixie Normas switched in Koffing (lvl 5 Koffing ?).
tentaintcool switched in Bronzor (lvl 5 Bronzor).
Koffing used Sunny Day.
The sun began to shine!
The sun continues to shine.
Bad switch on my part, with Sunny Day any fire attack will KO Bronzor. I need to try and get on the offensive, and I’m pretty sure he’s about to flamethrower me, which gives me a great chance to bring my favourite LC Pokémon.
---
tentaintcool switched in Psyduck (lvl 5 Psyduck ?).
Koffing used Taunt.
Psyduck fell for the taunt!
Psyduck's reflect wore off!
The sun continues to shine.
Fantastic! For the first time I’m in a strong offensive position, Psyduck nullifying the effects of Sunny Day means I can use a full powered Hydro Pump. I figure he’s going to switch out, but I’m not going to try and over predict anything just yet, I still don’t know too much of his team.
---
Dixie Normas switched in Munchlax (lvl 5 Munchlax ?).
Psyduck used Hydro Pump.
Munchlax lost 40% of its health.
The sun continues to shine.
Munchlax: 40%
He’s in KO range, and I’m definitely faster. A kill here would put me firmly in control of this match.
---
Psyduck used Hydro Pump.
Psyduck's attack missed!
Munchlax used Frustration.
Psyduck lost 95% of its health.
The sun continues to shine.
Psyduck: 5%
Ah crap... well Psyduck won’t be able to sweep now, but he can still take out Munchlax.
---
Psyduck used Hydro Pump.
Psyduck's attack missed!
Munchlax used Frustration.
Psyduck lost 95% of its health.
tentaintcool's Psyduck fainted.
The sun faded.
Dixie 5-4 tentaintcool
Arggghh! That miss may well have cost me the game. Not only did it lose me a potent sweeper who could have caused Dixie problems later on, but it also killed my only way to deal with weather changers and seeing as Koffing has used Sunny Day two times, I’m assuming he has some weather abusers up his sleeve. I’m at a huge disadvantage now.
---
tentaintcool switched in Diglett (lvl 5 Diglett ?).
Diglett used Earthquake.
Munchlax lost 63% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Munchlax fainted.
Dixie 4-4 tentaintcool
Again Diglett comes in to equal out the scores, and again this leave me gaping open for Dixie to set up Sunny Day.
---
Dixie Normas switched in Koffing (lvl 5 Koffing ?).
tentaintcool switched in Bronzor (lvl 5 Bronzor).
Koffing used Sunny Day.
The sun began to shine!
The sun continues to shine.
I decided to switch in Bronzor again, as I was starting to think Koffing wasn’t packing flamethrower as he’s had 2 good chances to use it. If I can get a Reflect up, it will allow one of my late game threats to cause some havoc.
---
Koffing used Taunt.
Bronzor fell for the taunt!
Bronzor used Reflect.
Bronzor can't use Reflect after the taunt!
The sun continues to shine.
Bah... I just can’t get on the offensive; Koffing keeps Bronzor from supporting my team. I decide to keep Bronzong in, as I have no idea what attack he’s using and I never play a risky game.
---
Koffing used Flamethrower.
It's super effective!
Bronzor lost 104% of its health.
tentaintcool's Bronzor fainted.
Bronzor's Oran Berry restored health!
The sun continues to shine.
Dixie 4-3 tentaintcool
Not really that big a deal, Bronzor hadn’t done anything this game apart from giving Dixie ample opportunities to keep his offensive assault up.
---
tentaintcool switched in Teddiursa (lvl 5 Teddiursa ?).
Teddiursa used Protect.
Teddiursa protected itself!
Koffing used Flamethrower.
Teddiursa protected itself!
The sun continues to shine.
Teddiursa was badly poisoned!
In comes Teddiursa, I decide to stall out the sun with protect. He has 4 Pokemon left, 3 of which I don’t know. He has the sun up which I’m presuming benefits his team in some way or another, so it’s safe to say he has me on the ropes at this point.
---
Teddiursa used Facade.
Koffing lost 85% of its health.
Koffing used Flamethrower.
Teddiursa lost 67% of its health.
The sun faded.
Teddiursa is hurt by poison!
Teddiursa lost 4% of its health.
Teddiursa: 29%
Koffing: 15%
Facades awesome power takes a massive chunk out of Koffing, however a sun boosted flamethrower combining with poison damage leaves Teddiursa on under 30%. However at this point that doesn’t faze me as I’ve finally reclaimed the offensive position, seeing as I out speed his Koffing.
---
Teddiursa used Crunch.
Koffing lost 30% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Koffing fainted.
Teddiursa is hurt by poison!
Teddiursa lost 8% of its health.
Teddiursa: 21%
Dixie Normas 3-3 tentaintcool
Back on equal scores, the Sun has faded and my Teddiursa has his Quick Feet boost, despite all of this the match was still in his favour, I don’t know any of his 3 Pokémon.
---
Dixie Normas switched in Gastly (lvl 5 Gastly ?).
tentaintcool switched in Murkrow(lvl 5 Murkrow ?).
Gastly used Energy Ball.
It's not very effective...
A critical hit!
Murkrowlost 52% of its health.
Murkrow’s special defence was lowered.
Murkrow: 48%
The first time I actually decide to take a bit of a risk, and it pays off. This move put me strongly in the driving seat, I can start to launch the Tent Offensive!
---
Gastly used Energy Ball.
It's not very effective...
Murkrowlost 39% of its health.
Murkrowused Pursuit.
It's super effective!
Gastly lost 142% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Gastly fainted.
Murkrowlost 9% of its health.
tentaintcool's Murkrowfainted.
Dixie Normas 2-2 tentaintcool
I lost Murkrow, but I’m not that bothered, getting rid of Gastly was the priority. My sole aim now is too unleash Teddiursa for a sweep.
---
tentaintcool switched in Diglett (lvl 5 Diglett ?).
Dixie Normas switched in Tangela (lvl 5 Tangela ?).
Diglett used Aerial Ace.
It's super effective!
Tangela lost 48% of its health.
Tangela used Sleep Powder.
Diglett fell asleep!
Tangela: 52%
Diglett: 100% (Sleep)
“Crap” is the all I’m thinking, out of all the Pokémon for him to have, Tangela was the most threatening. I’m just glad I stripped 48% off which could hopefully weaken him enough for when Teddiursa comes in. If he sets up Sunny Day now I’m royally screwed.
---
Diglett is fast asleep!
Tangela used Solarbeam.
Tangela takes in sunlight!
Well Tangela not having Sunny Day is the only consolation I can take at this point, as that would have finished me off. Dugtrio doesn’t matter anymore, he’s served his purpose in the game.
---
Diglett is fast asleep!
Tangela used Solarbeam.
It's super effective!
Diglett lost 267% of its health.
tentaintcool's Diglett fainted.
Tangela lost 9% of its health.
Tangela: 43%
Dixie Normas 2-1 tentaintcool
Waking up then would have been nice, as the recoil damage would have been enough to finish Tangela off. At this point everything depends on what Dixie’s last Pokémon is, I only have a Teddiursa who’s on 21%, expect a tight finish!
---
tentaintcool switched in Teddiursa (lvl 5 Teddiursa ?).
Teddiursa used Facade.
Tangela lost 65% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Tangela fainted.
Teddiursa is hurt by poison!
Teddiursa lost 4% of its health.
Dixie Normas 1-1 tentaintcool
Dugtrio’s last ditch effort with Aerial Ace put Tangela into KO range, for the first time in the match and I actually feel confident about winning this. Nervous moments as I wait to see what Dixie’s last trick is in this twist-filled encounter.
---
Dixie Normas switched in Shieldon (lvl 5 Shieldon ?).
Teddiursa used Close Combat.
It's super effective!
Shieldon lost 163% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Shieldon fainted.
tentaintcool wins!
Yes! I take back what I said earlier, Psyduck isn’t my favourite LC Pokémon, Teddiursa is!
Dixie Normas 0-1 tentaintcool
Props:
•Dixie for an amazing game, and letting me Warstory this.
•Teddiursa and Diglett for fulfilling their roles perfectly.
•Exciting game, with constant switches from offense to defence.
Slops:
•Psyduck, did nothing and missed twice in a row.
•Bronzor ditto, and let him keep up his offensive play.
Overview:
My best LC battle without a doubt. This is the reason I was attracted to LC in the first place, as a key part of the game is getting into an offensive position. I was very surprised that I won, Dixie outplayed me for long periods in that game keeping up his offensive front for nearly the entirety of the match. This game does show how powerful Diglett is in LC though, as it wass the only reason I won, as Dixie's dominance came to nothing when could easily trap and kill one of his Pokemon.
