My team that won Smogon Tour!

INTRODUCTION

When I made this team, I had one goal in mind: to use Magnezone+Salamence effectively. An interesting thing about the combo is that together they resist every type in the game. This team when I first made it got me to #1 on Smogon Server when it first was up. So with that little intro out of the way, onto the team!
TEAM

azelf.png

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Levitate
6 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed
Jolly
~Stealth Rock
~U Turn
~Taunt
~Explosion

Azelf is one of the best leads in the game right now. Hes basically a guaranteed SR which my team really enjoys. Taunt stops Bronzong leads, and after I SR I go to Maggy for a free kill. I try to keep him alive for late game if possible so I can explode on a late game sweeper. The EV spread is standard for him, as he won't be taking many hits. The only lead that really troubles him is Ttar, cause as soon as I get up rocks Azelf bites the dust.

heracross.png

Heracross @ Salac Berry
Swarm
6 Def/252 Attack/252 Speed
30 HP IV
Jolly
~Swords Dance
~Megahorn
~Substitute
~Close Combat

MoPcross hell yea! This is one of Hera's best sets in my opinion. If you don't know how this works, you switch this in on something thats scared of Hera, then set up a sub. What I love about this set is that if a Gliscor switches in, it expects me to be choiced, so I just Sub and SD while they take 2 hits to break the sub. When I get down to Swarm boost, its a 2hko at worst. I've swept so many teams with this guy its crazy.

magnezone.png

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Magnet Pull
92 HP/230 Special Attack/188 Speed
Modest
~Thunderbolt
~Hidden Power Grass 70
~Substitute
~Magnet Rise

Part one of the Magnezone/Mence combo. The EV spread is a little weird, so let me explain. I wanted it to have enough speed to outspeed standard Agility Gross before an agility. The HP evs give him a Leftovers number, at 304. The rest in Sp Att for kick ass attacking. I have a bit of a Swampert weak, so HP Grass>Ice. Sub and Magnet Rise is necessary to trap steels. This is my only steel, so he takes a couple hits if needed.

salamence.png

Salamence @ Life Orb
Intimidate
224 HP/12 Attack/196 Defense/76 Speed
Jolly
~Dragon Dance
~Dragon Claw
~Earthquake
~Roost

Bulkymence is a beast. After Magnezone takes out the opponent's steel, this guy usually gets a sweep. The EVs allow him to take all kinds of hits, such as 2 SDed Extremespeeds from Lucario. He also is able to outspeed said Lucario and KO with Earthquake. This guy is also able to survive an Outrage from ScarfChomp with SR in play and then kill with Dragon Claw. Dragon Claw and Earthquake is unresisted after Steels are taken care of. Roost allows him to heal while removing that ugly 4x weak and 2x Rock resist.

tentacruel.png

Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Liquid Ooze
204 HP/96 Special Attack/ 172 Special Defense/36 Speed
Calm
~Surf
~Ice Beam
~Toxic Spikes
~Rapid Spin

Tentacruel is my Mixape Counter, Rapid Spinner, and Toxic Spiker. Rapid Spin is necessary in order get rocks away, otherwise Salamence takes unnecessary damage from SR, which he dislikes. Toxic Spikes is a great way to slowly get YacheChomp, among other pokemon, to the kill range of Deoxys E. Surf is a great STAB move as always, while Ice Beam can help against Dragons and is good for coverage.

deoxyse.png

Deoxys-E @ Expert Belt
Pressure
4 Attack/252 Special Attack/252 Speed
Naive
~Superpower
~Ice Beam
~Thunderbolt
~Shadow Ball

Late game, this guy is so amazing. With pokemon like Garchomp and Infernape suffering from Toxic Spikes, Deo here takes them out rather easily. Max speed is to at worst tie other Deo, while Max Special Attack helps with my 3 special moves. Attack gets 4 evs so Superpower gets a tiny boost. The coverage of Boltbeam is fantastic, with the few pokes that resist it (Magnezone, Lanturn, Shedinja) being taken out by Hera, Salamence, and Stealth Rock respectively. Superpower takes out Tyranitar and Lucario in one hit. Shadow Ball takes out opposing Deoxys E as long as Gengar, etc.

So thats the team. If you can do anything to help fix it that would be great. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it!

Congrats I was thinking about stealing this team just now, but how would that get me to be better if I can not improve my team building skills. Overall you have a pretty solid team.

Nice team, and like I said on Shoddy AgilityGross can cause you some problems. Most of your team can handle it, however if it grabs an Agility off Azelf or Deoxys it can be troublesome.

*Applause!!!!1111

I love Zone/DD Bulky Mence combo. And with Zone eliminating Deoxys' counters... well basically Magnezone is beastly, and is a vital part of this team.

One thing I might suggest, as maybe an alternative, is to try a more offensive oriented Salamence. I'll simply post the spread I use frequently. 82 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe @ Jolly nature. 308 Speed, which outspeeds max speed Lucario (speed beneficial nature) which can form problems for your Heracross with priority move and everything (well in the situation if you don't have a sub up of course), well maybe you'll face an IPL offensive team ripoff lulz (which I've seen ALOT on Official Server, thus changing my Mence spread to the one shown. but then again official sucks and you prolly dont use that anymore lulz).

I can see problems with Yache Chomp, but w/e, all teams do imo.

Well that's all I can suggest. Nice team and congrats on winning you son of a bitch

*Cracks Knuckles*

Solid team... Solid team... Solid team. A few minor nitpicks.

Azelf is fine as a lead and I know you love your Explosion Stealth Rocks. However, I recommend another "Suicide" Lead because you have a rather large Yanmega weakness. An HP Ground Yanmega can beat everything on this team except a full health tentacruel with little or no trouble. The frightening part about it is you have no priority moves or sleep talker. An Aerodactyl in this slot will resolve that problem somewhat. Other than that, perhaps a good ol' fashioned Zong may do the trick. Just keep this in mind.

MOP Cross is fucking sexy! I was using it last night. Minor nitpick, but I recommend dropping his speed to 232 EVS so you can put another 20 EVs into defense. Why? 295 doesnt outspeed anything significant, but 290 will outspeed Yanmega before he protects, and after he protects with your Salac. The 24 Defense EVs will decrease the chance Gliscor has of breaking your sub. Mine kept breaking last night and it pissed me off, but I had better luck with the change.

Magnezone - I know you are going 188 speed, but why not just raise it to 204 speed EVs? If you shoot for 202 you may as well hit 207 or 208. Your team will like you when you can get that extra hit in on Suicune and Cresselia.

Bulkymence - Sexy.

Tentacruel - Fine.

Deoxys-E - fine I guess. I'm honestly a little worried about Gyarados because some Gyarados users attack first to see what your counter is and Deoxys-E isn't taking a Life Orbed Waterfall very lightly. If somehow you can leave off an attack, Recover may help you feel "safer" but its up to you. Just be careful.

Other than that its a cool team. And congrats on winning the tournament!

Good team. I would take Raikoulover's advice and drop Heracross's speed to 290, unless you have any specific reasons? I would also try leading with aerodactyl to see which one is better. Do you have trouble against stallish hail teams?

maan. this team looks completely awesome. do you mind if i copy it to surprise my friend? hahaha very nice very nice. i especially like the "Salazone" combo

Yache chomp really looks like a bitch to this team as you dont have a solid team other than hit it and use deoxys in which case they're most likely switch, I would consider defensive starmie over tentacruel as you still have rapid spin, outspeed chomp, have more power, but lost tspikes.

Great team! Gratz on winning tourney. I battled you earlier today is you remeber and you had this team. Something I saw was that you couldn't handle my t-wave-charm bliss. Bringing it in on something other than heracross or azelf and it's a problem. Hera being the only poke that can hit bliss other than the blaring oblvious explosion on azelf. T-wave on switch to hera, then charm it. CC will only do 57% max to a max df bliss. And it can just keep charming until you sub. Keeping in mind your still para which could come into effect and you could have a -4 attack, para heracross. Completly circumstancle and I just happen to have one. Aslong as you can get t-spikes up you can beat this bliss. Overall good team, however fake-out leads that outspeed or speed-tie Azelf(Weavile, Ambipom, Persian) will make your azelf a complete waste.

all in all i really like the team

yeah it might have some problems with a twave wall

tentacruel should be noticed because it takes hits really well and sets up while spinning for stuff like salamence, gyarados, etc

lol already fought someone who has copied this team on shoddy X_X (-.-)

I won because the guy using the team didnt know how to use it

I'm going to save a copy of this team just in case.
Perhaps I may use it one day... Anyways, congrats Justin.

With Adamant nature you're pretty much outsped by any Pokémon with Choice Scarf. Jolly is a more reliable option when you're boosing your attack anyway.

Seems like a cool team, and congrats for winning the tour.

well, I remember back in the days before smogon shoddy when we were both playtesting this team (or at least something like it) and trying to figure out how to make it not fail so badly..... good times. I suppose you may have figured out how to do that, seeing as you won smogon tour and all, but we all know that justinawe has absolutely no fucking idea when to bring hera out, and thus is getting far fewer sweeps with him than he should ^_^

anyways, as far as the team itself, what worries me is that you're heavily overtaxing magnezone. like, your 3 potent sweepers are all walled by their assorted steels, and if magnezone isn't taking them out, they could stick around for a long, long time. I mean, I guess you could blow up on them with azelf and then sac one of your guys to bring them down, but that involves heavy sacrifices, and if the opponent realizes how important it is for steels to be gone (as all teams with magnezone are) for your team to work, they'll be much more wary about when they'll be keeping the steels in and when to switch out. anyways, theorymon jargon aside, another pokemon that worries me other than assorted steels is mamoswine. he effectively 2HKO's or OHKO's every member of this team without too much difficulty, outspeeding and ice fanging (or worse, blizzarding) salamence for the kill, ice sharding low health heracross, eqing random shit that is weak to it and doesn't outspeed him, and ice sharding deo for around 50%, so he better be at full health, or at least near to it if you want even a chance to revenge kill him. then of course, he can always switch out and whatnot, so that won't really help. I guess azelf could try and blow up on him, but he'll be scared shitless of fire blast and psychic on that puny special defense, so he won't want to stay in. anyways, with a few minor changes, nothing too drastic, you can work to solve these problems decently well. first of all, fire blast over taunt on azelf (should you choose to use him and not aerodactyl, though ideally I'd like you to try fake out infernape), with everyone expecting it nowadays, I don't see you getting too much mileage out of it, and fire blast gives you the extra pokemon that can hurt a steel type that is expecting an explosion. fire+bug gets decent coverage as well. next, you should at least try fire fang on mence, just to try it out, as the only guy who resists it is heatran, who you can bring tentacruel in pretty much all the time, except in the case of LO tran, who should be really getting worn down from attacking and then taking random hits here and there. of course you have to predict the fire blasts and hp ices and not come in on earth powers, but that's pokemon. and to help "deal" with mamoswine, you should really give deoxys recover as raikoulover suggested, keeping him healthy and in shape to beat out mamoswine should the need arise. not too much drastic stuff. I'm glad this team finally worked out for you!

edit: holy crap I didn't even notice cc over stone edge. please change it now.

I dont know how you won with this team tbh it seems very one sided. Change CC to Stone edge on Heracross... then that'll be more like a "MoPCross" or whatever. There really isn't a point for both horn and combat when SE is much more useful.

I'm not sure how you handle Doe-e, I guess the only way to beat him is to win speed tie? That's not very good. edit: ironically i think bronzong would be a better lead lol (YOUR FAVORITE POKEMON OMGZZZ)

Why U turn on Azelf? Is that to trap steels? Why not just give it Fire blast...

And you could consider Giga Drain on tentacruel if you fear Swampert so much... I think HP Ice oh Maggy is a much better option =/
