DP Dragonite

Hi, I have never wrote a peer edit before but I made and found myself using the set below. I quite like this Dragonite. :toast:

http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/dragonite

[SET]
Name: Bulky DD Dragonite
Move 1: Dragon Dance
Move 2: Light Screen / Earthquake
Move 3: Roost
Move 4: Outrage / Dragon Claw
Item: Lum Berry / Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Atk / 196Spe
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Inner Focus

[SET COMMENTS]

This Dragonite is more bulky than standard, which helps you set up Light Screen, from which point you can setup a sweep. Whilst behind a Light Screen, you take about 40% from standard a bulky water Ice Beam, which is reduced to about 20% if your behind Light Screen and Roosting.

Dragon Dance and Roost work well in conjunction, so you can start your sweep whilst healing when needed. However, you are left with only one slot, which goes to your STAB dragon move, a choice of Outrage or Dragon Claw. Adamant nature because you are constantly boosting attack. Leftovers or Lum Berry is your choice, one guarding you from status, the other providing small amounts of health per turn. Leftovers is the better choice if you have an aromatherapist on your team.

While Light Screen is very beneficial for this set, you may find that you don't have enough coverage. Therefore, you can use Earthquake adding extra coverage against steels, just watch for Skarmory and Bronzong.

I think the sets should be seperated; too much slashitis and you have to use all of the physical moves with the physical moves and the special moves with the special moves because you're not providing the option to go mixed anyway.

Put a space between the Number and EVs or stat (like you have 56HP when it should be 56 HP, and 337HP when it should be 337 HP).

If you choose to go physical, Dragon Dance and Roost work well in conjunction, once you are faster than the opponent you can Roost to halve that Ice weakness. Through this and leftovers you can quickly regain your health. Once you have two or three dances, you can sweep. Pokémon such as standard Starmie are setup fodder for this, provided you are at full health at the start. If you run special you will find yourself playing more defensive. Make sure you change the nature to Careful if you do, and move those 8 attack EVs to special attack. Life Orb is viable, though you may find yourself losing HP too quickly.

Leftovers, Dragon Dances, defensively, Calm, eight.

yuck. stuff like the light screen or substitute abusing sets seem to work much better. really it feels like salamence outclasses this, because your dragonite hits 337 hp, 306 attack, 226 defense, 244 speed, 212 sp.attack, and 328 special defense while salamence hits 387 hp, 306 attack, 196 defense, 244 speed, 230 special attack (careful version), and 284 special defense, taking 74.16% - 87.34% from a 299 sp.attack ice beam, while your dragonite takes 73.59% - 86.65%, which aint that much less. but salamence, with the much higher hp (387 vs 337) and intimidate takes physical hits waaay better. and then he can invest even more hp to hit the same special attack as the calm version, taking hits that much less than dragonite. I'm not saying that that is the best bulkymence set, just saying that this guy is outclassed.

if you want bulky nite, you should really be abusing either light screen or its higher special defense with substitute and an apicot berry. you need to do something that makes salamence not outclass it.

I really would change this set quite a bit. This set is really mixed up, and I feel that Dragon Dance really should be abused on a set this bulky. Bulky Dragonite being Special feels like a waste to me. Raikoulover and Brawley have give me two variations of BulkyDragonite.

Raikoulover's version:

[SET]
Name: Bulky Dragonite
Move 1: Dragon Dance
Move 2: Light Screen
Move 3: Roost
Move 4: Outrage
Item: Lum Berry
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Atk / 196 Spe

Brawley's version:

[SET]
Name: Bulky Dragonite
Move 1: Dragon Dance
Move 2: Roost
Move 3: Earthquake
Move 4: Outrage
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP / 24 Atk / 232 Spe

well it's certainly better, but now steels wall you. that's basically the only issue with bulky dragonite. well, poop. it looks like that's another set to take out of the list of viable movesets. make sure to say somewhere about taking 40% from the standard bulky water ice beam with light screen up or while roosting, and 20% with light screen and while roosting.

Yeah, steel types are definitely going to walk all over this set. I guess it's possible to try and fit Fire Punch on this set. I would probably put it over Light Screen. If Bulky Salamence and Gyarados can survive without Light Screen, I'm sure Dragonite can to. Also, I would recommend you put Yache Berry as an option for the item to help compensate for the loss of Light Screen if some one chooses to use Fire Punch over it.

To be honest, I actually would but Earthquake next to Light Screen, I just gave you the normal set. Also, I meant Jolly for Raikoulover's set, not Adamant.

That sounds a lot better actually. Salamence is outclassed in the Special walling department by Dragonite anyways (even without the Light Screen). In fact Dragonite outclasses him in the physical walling department without Intimidate.

Earthquake (or Fire Punch) would work over Light Screen in my opinion.

Jolly loses too much power, I would go with Adamant. You outspeed starmie after a DD still, and the whole point of the roost and light screen is to get 2 DDs anyway. I would also drop fire punch... its not really a great option.

Please label this set Bulky DD Dragonite, as Bulky Nite can be a generic term for support Dragonite. I'm currently working on two more Dragonite sets.
