Just a heads up! The eligibility requirements to vote on whether Garchomp will be banned to Ubers or not are as follows:

1) A rating (not CRE) of 1650 on both the standard ladder and the suspect test ladder. This is computed by averaging the high and low rating estimates computed by shoddy battle.

2) A deviation of less than 60 on both the standard ladder and the suspect test ladder. Deviation is computed by subtracting the low rating estimate from the high rating estimate and dividing by two.

All individuals meeting the requirements by the end of the day on September 5th, 2008 will be extended an invitation to vote.

Example:

Standard Ladder:
  • Rating: (1799+1683)/2 = 1741 (Meets requirement of > 1650)
  • Deviation: (1799-1683)/2 = 58 (Meets requirement of < 60)
Suspect Test Ladder:
  • Rating: (1842+1701)/2 = 1771.5 (Meets requirement of > 1650)
  • Deviation: (1842-1701)/2 = 70.5 (Does NOT meet requirement of < 60)
Since, currently, my deviation score for the suspect ladder is too high, I am not eligible to vote. If you are interested in participating in the vote... make sure your numbers are where they need to be. Otherwise you will have to apply for special permission, and I do not plan on granting many of those.

Good thing this was posted, as the testing month comes to an end, I saw many people asking this question on shoddy (myself amongst them).

I think I am in a pickle.

I may need to ask special permission. Right now my actual rating is 1550 on suspect test ladder and i had 1675 a week ago on standard (but that probably fell off or went down). And...

standard: 1687-1846

suspect: 1633-1692

I dont think I qualify for the standard if I am reading this right but I have been nonstop laddering and I think I should be able to partake in the voting :/

if ratings are on different nicks is that allowed? I just realized that while the suspect one is on kd24, my standard rating is on "im bored". If not, I may have to do some constant ladder to get my standard rating up with kd24 :/

It's a shame I won't be able to vote (I leave today and come back the 3rd and even after I doubt I'll be able to put in the time to ladder) but I hope the process works out in the end :)

Looks like I'll have to get back to playing Standard a bit more often then.

What happens if we play on our alts more than we do on our main's...
I'd imagine you should just inform a member of Smogon staff, tell them your alt and they can double check to make sure it is your alt. Then allow you to vote.

Meh, I'm much too lazy to have another go at the standard ladder, particularly as I'm almost certain that the vote isn't going to be a particularly close run thing.

To simplify the process... you need to satisfy the requirements on both ladders with one account. We are not going to try and figure out who is who by manually matching IPs. If it comes down to the end, and you do fill both requirements on separate accounts, you'd have to apply for special permission Your standings would be taken into account in the evaluation of your application, however.

Honestly, it's not that hard to get a rating of 1650 or higher and a deviation of 60 or lower. As long as you're a reasonably competent battler who battles fairly often, you shouldn't find it too hard to match the guidelines.

...or you'll discover you're not reasonably competent :(

Anyway, I'm glad it's on September 5th so I have a few days to continue to try to meet the guidelines, even if I'm pretty much doomed to fail.

I don't get the point of special permission though. I mean, since this ranking is fairly simple to achieve, I can't see many reasons why people would be allowed to bypass the process of laddering on both ladders. The only "valid" excuse I can think of is if a ridiculously good battler had some kind of emergency. Then again, you just said you're not giving out many of those so I bet it's just for reasons similar to that one.

it's a loophole for I, the mighty Jumpman16, and me only

but seriously, the more votes we get, the better. while we don't want to open this up to just anyone, i would imagine someone with aeolus's numbers above to likely be granted permission, other factors like standing and "emergencies" taken into account i would assume

Cool beans, I hope things go smoothly. I will admit that I haven't been that active in standard metagame (I played about, what, 10 matches at most on Shoddy this month?), but I still look forward to the results. I may just have to re-do my Gravity team.

I haven't had the time to play Shoddy for quite some time, as I've been moving to a new town to go to college, buying stuff, moving into a dorm, and doing math by correspondence.

I played as much as I possibly could but I still wont make it. Those of you who are eligible to vote, please, do the right thing :P

mmmm, just as we're about to get the internet connection capable of reliable shoddy access, this whole thing ends. well that's just peachy. but maybe I'll be able to creat a new alt and ladder enough for my deviation to get low enough to vote in a few days.

*hopes for the best*

Please do the right thing? I don't think they want to have people that have an agenda on how they want to vote on such an important issue. The reason for it is to let the battlers who spent enough time, and with adequate skill, to FAIRLY judge the situation. I trust that people who took the time and effort to fairly evaluate the situation and voice their own opinions and not "do the right thing" (whatever you may be implying "the right thing" is - keeping Garchomp banned or not).

I wish I had spent more time laddering with each metagame earlier this month on my alt as I've run into huge time crunches with college starting back up, getting situated in my apartment, looking into internships, blah blah blah. I have enough to qualify on the standard ladder easily, but I didn't spend near enough time looking into the suspect ladder to work out a fair opinion (or high enough rating anyway). Maybe I can pull it off in a couple days if a lot of other people are grinding out the suspect ladder.

ok I think I almost have this. So I don't make a mistake:

My Standard Rating is: 1601-1789

1601 + 1789 / 2 = 1695

1789 - 1601 / 2 = 94

My Suspect Rating is: 1622-1680

1622 + 1680 / 2 = 1651

1680 - 1622 / 2 = 29

So I just need to get the deviation down for my standard rating and I will be allowed to vote?

I guess I won't be able to vote. My rating for Suspect is 1466-1521 which meets deviation requirements but not rating requirements. I haven't played standard in a few months, so there's pretty much no hope for getting that up in time for September 5th.
