anyone else got the game? im currently up to the civilisation stage, with my lovely little war species, the Sticklers >:}

the game is pretty good, but thats about it. nothing to get too excited about... the creature creator is easily the best thing about it. the tribal and civilsation stages are quite challenging and fun though

lets hear about your Spore journey!

Gotten up to the Space stage, although I haven't gotten past it's tutorial missions yet. On ther own every stage lacks the complexity to make the game truely compelling, but it is a good bit of fun making wacky creatures and everyone will find a stage they like and can play over and such.

Vehicle builder gets a special mention for its wow factor the first time you enter it. Also "Star Deployer" lol

I'm going to go play some more now. :)

One year ago, I was somewhat excited by spore. Now I wouldn't touch it with a stick...

Only three installations? What were EA thinking?
Online registration is inconvenient and goes against the principle of getting the game ready out of store, but limiting the number of installations is a disgrace.

The "protection" argument is laughable, considering the game was cracked three days before release.

Phew, now that's off my chest.

Does the gameplay live up to the hype?

... who cares about the amount of installations? i paid $100 odd bucks so i could play it, not my limp dicked friends

the gameplay most certainly does not live up to the hype, but its still a competent, enjoyable game

$100 bucks? Da-um.

I tried to install/play the Creature Creator Trial, but I got the following message when I tried to open it;

"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Are you going to say that if your computer crashes? Or if the installation gets corrupted?

I'm not talking about "limp dicked friends", I'm sure they have money to spend themselves (unless they've used it all in an attempt to remedy their penis), but about the possibility of you, yourself, for one reason or another needing to reinstall the game. What if that happens three times?

Is there any way to get around this?

to be honest any game's installation security can be cracked unless it relies on an online database. since many computers won't have internet access there's no real justification for that, and as such this pseudo-protection is just pointless

anyway on to spore: what are the minimum requirements? i can run the creature creator, it's OK in terms of performance. think i have a shot at running the game? i'd happily pay £40 :)

All of you are lucky. You all ready got Spore. I have to wait two more days :(. Anyway I downloaded the Demo Creature Creator, and it's OK. But it sucks not having all the parts, colors and textures.

EA's piece of shit DRM is a perfectly legitimate reason to bitch about the game. Why are pirates getting a better version of the game than paying customers are?

Hilarious that even with the choking DRM, it was still cracked and leaked days before launch.

Discuss the game, not the DRM technology used for the game. The DRM bullshit always fucks up discussion of PC games. Someone's free to start up a discussion on this particular DRM method or even DRM in general as it's something I know a large portion of this forum is passionate about.

Well, it came out in America today! (Or it will in several hours, I don't know of any midnight releases.)

yeh that was basically my point. this thread is about the goddamn game not computer game politics

i got my species past the civilisation stage today (which is surprisingly difficult for such a "everybody can play!" sorta game), and im now exploring space. coolio!

I've had this game since Friday now, and have had a big-ish technical problem - I was unable to link spore to my Sporepedia account I made with the Creature Creator a while ago, so my save file started out filled out with Maxis's abominations. Even now, after changing phases most, probably all of the stuff I see belongs to Maxis or people on my buddy list/sporecasts :pirate:.

I've been enjoying the game so far. I've been playing as a Carnivore the whole way through. The best phase is surprisingly the cell phase - it's the only one I'd say they've designed perfectly - the others have a few problems here and there. The biggest problem comes in space - at one point I was attacked every couple of minutes after two huge empires declared war on me, for accidentally walking into their territory. The game really shouldn't punish you for exploration.

In the end I used the money cheat to pay for ceasefires and actually make the space phase playable!

Oh and last of all, my my Sporepedia account. Why don't the rest of you with one post yours?

I will be buying this game sometime this or next week. I can't wait to create all kinds of creatures. Are the options for creating a monster nearly unlimited? I would be a little upset if I came up with a wicked idea, only to find out that the game lacked the options needed to create it.

Pretty versatile, although you can't paint specific patterns or anything like that.

Just got the game, can't wait.

I've heard multiple accounts of the game being finished incredibly quickly. Some say as quick as 8 hours. What are your experiences as far as game length?

download the creator for free, try it out

While every stage pre-Space are relatively short (cell completed in around half an hour and tribe under an hour) the whole point is that the Space stage is never truly completed; sure, you can complete the storyline, but thats not what spore is really about, is it?

ive gotta complain about the space stage... its simply not fun. too much shit happens at one time; i might doing one mission to kill off diseased species in one planet, while at the same time pirates are attacking my home world, while at the same time an alliance is losing interest and requires money, while at the same time my ship is running out of fuel...

this definitely needs fixing.there are some incredible ideas and potential in space stage, but it was implemented very poorly

also, whatever you do, dont become a military race. makes the game too hard

How to lower/disable enemy attacks from space.
