Dragonite FTW!!! (help wanted)

This team is still in the works. Been switching in and out a lot of Pokemon, but this is what I'm at so far. It needs A LOT of help. This team is for Wifi, so there's no Rotom or Skymin I can use or need to counter, yet...

The team uses status to open up a Dragonite sweep. At a read:

azelf.png

Azelf @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Naive
EVs: 64 Spe, 226 SpA, 220 Atk
- U-Turn
- Fire Blast
- Psychic/Grass Knot/Trick
- Explosion

This is my own creation. With a Scarf I know it reaches 462 Speed outspeeding Ninjask, 2HKO's Bronzong with Fire Blast, and deals loads of damage to everything else. It also does 60+ damage to enemy Azelfs!

This beats most leads, or can get in a light hit on its way out. I have trouble with Swampert which is why I have Grass Knot. Since Deoxy-S is becoming Uber, I pumped up it's attack. Fire Blast can OHKO Metagross, Skarmory, etc.

vaporeon.png

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Nature: Calm
EVs: 234 HP, 252 Def, 24 SpA
- Hydro Pump/Surf
- Ice Beam
- Wish
- Roar

I love this thing, and rely on it to take on Heatran. Roar shuffles the foes team, and gets away annoying Gyarados/Scizor. This is my first wish passer, and it helps greatly with Dragonite being worn down by Life Orb and Stealth Rocks.

Hydro Pump is quite powerful, but Surf is a lot more reliable.

porygon2.png

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP, 96 SpD, 40 SpA, 120 Def
- Discharge
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Magic Coat/Thunder Wave

Porygon2 has replaced paraflinch Togekiss. This is my counter to Gyarados, and a great one at that. Thunder Wave would help my team greatly. I paralyze all those fast sweepers, so that Dragonite has an easier time. However, with a Lum Berry and Magic Coat I can act as a much needed status absorber... Thank you Legacy Raider for the EV spread!

jirachi.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Nature: Impish
EVs: 106 Atk, 76 Def, 240 HP, 56 SpD, 32 Spe
- Body Slam
- U-Turn
- Stealth Rock
- Wish

My second Wish passer. It covers Dragonite's weakness and vice versa perfectly! The EVs may look a little wack, but it lets me outspeed Tyranitar, survive CB Dugtrio's EQ, and live through a Life Orb Modest Mence's Fire Blast after Stealth Rock damage. That way I can Body Slam (and hopefully paralyze) that Pokemon and U-Turn out of there. Stealth Rock is just there because I couldn't fit it anywhere else.

heracross.png

Dusknoir @ Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk, 104 HP, 154 Spe
- Megahorn
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit

This guy has replaced Dusknoir. Here's my answer to Cresselia, and is my semi-status absorber. If I switch in on a Blissey's Thunder Wave and it switches, Pursuit can do 50+ damage to it! Stone Edge helps against Gyarados switching in.

dragonite.png

Dragonite @ Life Orb
Nature: Naughty
EVs: 100 Atk, 194 Spe, 216 SpA
- SuperPower
- Flamethrower/Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Draco Meteor

MixNite! This set shows what it has over Mence: SuperPower, and Thunderbolt. I can't take credit for making this set, but it is quite awesome. It OHKO's Blissey and Heatran with SuperPower, kills Gyrados with Thunderbolt, Scizor with Fire Blast, Salamance with Draco Meteor, it just goes on and on. In addition, Scizor can't revenge kill it by KOing with a CB Bullet Punch.

After the revenge killers are hopefully paralyzed, this thing rips through teams.

Threats:

- Scizor: The best I can do is Roar it away, wear it down, or somehow get a Fire Blast in. Having trouble with it, suggestions are wanted.

- Zapdos: I hate this thing, especially offensive ones. It gets STAB SE on my special wall, so that's going down. Azelf can only OHKO it by exploding. I'm having lots of trouble with this bird.

- Heatran: Vaporeon is my answer, Dragonite is back up.

- Salamance: Dusknoir takes physical ones on quite well. Once they're locked into Outrage, Jirachi can come in and paralyze it. No prob.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
You may now post!!! In conclusion, I really need some help getting this team to work. I think there's a good concept, but it doesn't always pull through.

Please help and rate now! I've already recieved help:

Bronzong @ Light Clay
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP, 8 Def, 98 SpD, 152 Atk
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Explosion
- Gyro Ball/Stealth Rocks

link6491 has turned me on to Duel Screen Bronzong. I've used one before and know it works great, but I'd probably have to replace Jirachi... so should I put this in place of Jirachi, someone else, or not use it at all?

Ughhhh! Typed out loads and just lost it ;_;

Azelf moveset? What do you mean Earthquake? There's no user of EQ on your team..

Use Hidden Power Electric over Roar on Gyarados. A dead Gyarados is better than an alive one.

Basically, how to you beat the likes of Cresselia? Especially Rest / Sleep Talk / Charge Beam / Ice Beam? I think if you got rid of Rest Talkers and bulky Pokémon such as Dusknoir it would help greatly. This is why I am suggesting a Pursuiter; Scizor or Heracross. Heracross doesn't mind being paralysed or burnt itself so that it a good option. Choice Band Adamant, Pursuit / Megahorn / Close Combat / Stone Edge. Would also make a safer switch into Blissey, should you worry about bringing in Dragonite early.

However, you would need to put it probably, over Dusknoir. You said yourself that you think you should change him, I would! Just be ever so careful of SpecsMence, yet again Heracross works here. Pursuit as it flees does 50.6% - 59.64% to standard SpecsMence, so get those Stealth Rocks up asap! Sure you lose Salamence counter (physical Salamences), but Vaporeon is pretty good in that department.

Good Luck! :)

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to say, put 24 EVs in Vaporeon's SpA, to always OHKO 120/0 Salamence with Ice Beam. :) Take the EVs from HP.

Thank you! I was "selling" the Azelf lead... I first had ScarfTrio over Togekiss, and as I said it works great with Azelf but other than that it did nothing so I replaced it. Dugtrio was the one with EQ.

I'm a little confused on the "Gyarados" thing. I'm guessing you mean Vaporeon, but are you saying it's better Vaporeon be dead? That's where you lost me, but I get the idea... I like Roar because it'll pile of SE damage, and is best "counter" to CM Suicune, Cresselia... And I don't like breeding for Hidden Powers :(

Heracross is a great idea, but which one: Choice Scarf, or Choice Band?

Heh heh, you've got a Dragonite avatar...

Er Meta, your Azelf only has 3 moves =P. I think the Ev Spread you had in mind was 92Atk, 252 SpA, 164Spe. That gives you your 2HKO on Bronzong and outspeeds Deoxy-E.

Your Dragonite has 512 EVs...

But onto the team itself.

It looks pretty solid, but I think I detect a TTar weak. Honestly, the only pokemon in your team that can stand up to it is Vaporeon, and that is easily 2HKOed. I suggest adding Machamp over Dusknoir. Try Lum Berry with 252Hp/252Atk and Dynamicpunch and Stone Edge and Fire Punch. Trust me, Machamp works wonders on a team with this much paralysis support. It will be outspeeding tons and driving your opponent up the wall with Dynamicpunch parafusion. It also instantly solves your TTar weak, and gives you a status absorber. It is also pretty effective at taking out Scizor. It survives a +2 Life Orb Bullet Punch, and OHKOs with Fire Punch.

It also allows you to focus more on SpA and Spe on your Mixnite, just using Superpower to do a sizable chunk instead of OHKO. Dragonite only has a base 100 SpA, and with a neutral nature and only 216 EVs, its not gonna be blowing things apart with Draco Meteor like MixMence would.

24 EVs in Vap's SpA to OHKO mence with Ice Beam... Also, if you decide to run Machamp, then have HP Electric over Roar. Seriously, Gyarados has a field day with this team.

Bout it. Nice team.

Choice Band Heracross.

Whoops, I miswrote it. Meant put HP Electric on Vaporeon, to kill Gyarados instead of just Roaring it. Alao helps against RestTalk Gyarados.

As you said you struggle against CM Cresselia, which Heracross would help with!

UPDATED

I think a psuedo-hazer is needed, which is why I need Roar on Vaporeon.
That gives me a Gyara weakness, in addition my Pokemon that are weak to Ice/Rock/Electric was growing. My answer: Add in Porygon2! Probably the best Gyarados counter, can switch in with ease on Shadow Ball. Great a spreading status, he fits in perfectly.

I've also put in CB Cross, for Cresselia.

=) Yaay for P2. But you forgot to add in the 120 Def EVs. And I strongly recommend you have Leftovers over Lum Berry on P2. You are only guaranteed to survive 2 Outrages with Leftovers. And if P2 gets statused (put to sleep, etc), just bring him in later on in the game into a Blissey, Starmie, Celebi, Roserade, etc, trace the Natural Cure and then switch out again. Works a charm.

Why use a slot to use Porygon2 to counter Gyarados, and carry Vaporeon? Why not use Hidden Power Electric on Vaporeon, then take out Porygon2 for a phazer.

You would want a Bolt or Beam resist who could (preferably) work as a Defensive Pokémon with Roar / Whirlwind / Perish Song etc.
Possible "options":

~Heatran - Can carry Roar, comes with many resists (Ice most notably), can also carry Taunt if needed to stop status flying about. Will-o-Wisp is nice too. Obviously can carry Roar.
~Drapion - Doesn't come with a resist to BoltBeam but can handle Deoxys-S very, very well. 252 HP / 12 Atk / 244 SpD with Rest / Sleep Talk / Whirlwind / Crunch is a great answer to Deoxys-S, Gengar and Azelf, and again helps with your status problems. Works well with Stealth Rock, and only has one weakness which is covered by Azelf and Dragonite.
~Swampert - Swampert was clear cut to possibly go here. Celebi gets eaten by a Heracross Megahorn, so.. Laughs at Thunder Wave too.

However you probably want Thunder Wave help too. Celebi with Perish Song can work but adds a Ice weakness (albeit a Electric resist) and can carry Thunder Wave. Zapdos is "okay" with Thunder Wave, Roost and Roar too, which is nice for stalling.

I think I fixed everything.

Twash Man, no offense but I don't think you fully understand what Vaporeon does as a phazer:

1) Scares away Salamance
2) Blocks off Heatran
3) Roars Scizor as he SDs
4) Roars Gyara as he DDs

All the time adding up Stealth Rock damage. That's 2/3 of almost every team right there. If Scizor does manage to kill me, it's without a Sword Dance, allowing me to revenge kill and possibly set up a sweep.

In addition, Vaporeon doesn't OHKO with HP Electric, while Pory2 can with Stealth Rock damage.

Deoxy-S without Psychic can do nothing to Heracross (most have Shadow Ball), and can easily be Pursuited. He even survives 1 Psychic I believe.

I still need to test this team now, I'll think about Swampert and Drapion. Oh, and only 2 Pokemon in the game resist Bolt Beam: Magnezone, Lanturn.

No matter what, Heatran is going to be struggling to beat Vaporeon, so that argument goes down the drain. (SURF =D)

120 / 0 Salamence gets OHKOd by 24 SpA Vaporeon's Ice Beam.

Scizor will just come back in and SD again...It will take all of 12.5%..In fact, if you used Surf on Scizor, it takes 40.12% - 47.79%. A 50%~ chance of a 2HKO with Stealth Rock..I would rather Surf it for 45%~ than Roar it, let it do 79.91% - 94.32% to me with +2 LO X-Scissor. Your dead next time. I would basically rather do 50%~ and finish with that Heatran I was on about (Timid, with at least 160 EVs in Speed to outspeed +Scizor). Heck, even predict the X-Scissor, go to Heatran and finish it. If you use Roar you'll be struggling.

RestTalk Gyarados will win out over HP Electric-less Vaporeon. And they are on the increase. Even if Gyarados (somehow) beats Vaporeon, you have ScarfZelf to finish it off.

Psychic is actually a standard on Deoxys-S..and it does 58.72% - 69.11%.

Also, I know what Pokémon resist Bolt Beam. Note I said Bolt OR Beam. AKA Swampert resists one, Celebi resists one etc.

I don't see what use Roar is. Seriously, HP Electric / Surf / Ice Beam / Wish is more beneficial imo.

Sorry if this came over as "offensive", I didn't mean for it to be!

Not offensive at all, perhaps is just comes down to personal preferance...

I see Roar as being a move to end all unprepared Baton Pass attempts, any Sub Salac sweepers, any Calm Minding wall... but then it can also kill Gyarados. Don't forget, this is a wifi team and it's significantly harder to get Hidden Powers.

I'm going to test this team as it is now, and tell you how it did. Thank you!

You may want to make your Azelfs spread so that it can outrun Scarf Gengars.

I also think a CM Jirachi, could fit over your current set. CM Rachis work very well with Salamence/Dragonite in general, because they cover one another well. And they both pose great offensive threats. Besides, one wisher should be enough. SuperRachi can come help out with pert, and give you a free space for Pyschic on Azelf. Gengar can kind of trouble you, seing as you don't have a surefire counter to it, so at least Azelf can keep it in check.

And DD Dragonite is a monster of a threat late game, so I would reccomend using one over your current set so that he can come in and clean up late game. If you're set on using the current moveset you have, go ahead. I just think that a DD Nite lategame will help you out more than that set really would.

Well good luck with the team.

BUMP

I've also changed some things. After many test battles, it's not winning as much as I hoped. It's often beaten when Jirachi or Porygon2 is OHKO'd by something faster, failing to paralyze with Body Slam/Discharge. This leaves Dragonite to also me KO'd by something like Mixape or Weavile late game.

Is there a more reliable paralyzer out there?

Please rate, post and comment. As soon as I find a CM Rachi, I'll be sure to test it. ScarfGar is outpredicted, and Azelf outspeeds regular Gengars but the problem is knowing which is which.
