Venom

red eyes no visine
is a Team Rater Alumnus
I'm not much of a poster of my teams, but I think this team had a lot of potential, it has a special defensive core, that if used right, it can be real hard to take down. It also held me top 50 in the ladder once, under an alt that I will not reveal (no not wetback) for personal reasons. Enjoy

Blackout @ Choice Scarf *** Heatran
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 4 SpDef / 252 Spe
Nature: Hasty
- Fire Blast
- Explosion
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Heatran, the leading Pokemon in my team. There isn't anything new from Heatran, so don't expect something new from this one. The reason why I choose Heatran as my lead is because of the speed, and possibly the best option for a lead in my team. It isn't hard to predict, everyone can probably expect a Fire Blast, though I'll probably Earth Power first (barring its a Levitate Pokemon or such) to atleast get the opponents Heatran out of the way, nothing special. I give it Choice Scarf for Skymin, amazing revenge killer for Skymin, and good revenge killers for others such as Salamence as well.

dpmfa205.png

Bonecrusher @ Shed Shell / Leftovers *** Foretress
Ability: Swarm
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Nature: Relaxed
- Gyro Ball
- Rapid Spin
- Rest / Spikes
- Sleep Talk / Earthquake

Forretress, the Rapid Spinner of my team. You're probably thinking "SleepTalk Forretress are you retarded?" No, this has happened way to many times. People don't realize the pain it can be to take it down if not prepared for. Forretress is here for the main reason of Rapid Spin, not really Spikes. Toxic Spikes and regular Spikes affect 5 / 6 members out of my team, which is insane, and the one that it does not affect is hurt badly by Stealth Rocks, so a Rapid Spinner was nessecary, so no other than Forretress does the job, and does it quite well! The reason for the other slashes is because I've been using Gyro Ball / Rapid Spin / Spikes / Earthquake, which has proven effective as the RestTalk set. The problem is that I lack a status absorber, and I can't afford to make Heatran a RestTalker, though Forretress does a good job at RestTalking. I have to decide here, go with SleepTalk and Rapid Spin what I can, or be able to set my Spikes.

---------------------------------------------

dpmfa448.png

Brawl @ Life Orb *** Lucario
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Adamant
- Swords Dance
- Extremespeed
- Ice Punch
- Close Combat

Lucario, the sweeper and priority move use of my team. I had been considering Bullet Punch for Gengar and other Ice-types, but I found Extremespeed....well, extremely useful. Ice Punch is for Salamence that try to switch into Lucario, they get a big nasty Ice Punch, and hurts more after a Sword Dance. Ice Punch is also for Gliscor, who otherwise walls Lucario. Close Combat is for the obvious STAB, so nothing new really.

---------------------------------------------

"You can't drop me"

dpmfsa248.png

Megatron @ Choice Band *** Tyranitar
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Attack / 216 Special
Nature: Careful
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Pursuit

Tyranitar, one of the great defensive combo. Tyranitar has been my favorite Pokemon of all time, and it's no difference here, and consider Tyranitar the leader of this team, hence the name Megatron, leader of the Decepticons. I have a fad of making my Careful Special Defensive Tyranitars shiny for some reason, I think it's cool (everyone else do it too). Stone Edge is for flyers who might try to annoy me, such as Zapdos, and thanks to the Special Defense investment, I can switch into Zapdos without fear and be able to hit it with Stone Edge. Crunch is an awesome STAB move, which also helps when I'm trying to outpredict and Celebi predicting a Pursuit from me, and thanks for the Special Defensive investment, I can switch in to Starmie and Gengar and Pursuit or Crunch without fear.

---------------------------------------------

dpmfa134.png

Barricade @ Leftovers *** Vaporeon
Ability: Water Abosorb
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 68 SpAtk
Nature: Bold
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Wish
- Protect

Vaporeon, the Wish user of the team. Surf is for STAB and hitting Infernape, which Vaporeon is my only thing against Infernape, and also allows me to hit other Fire-type Pokemon such as Heatran. Hidden Power Electric is what will be saving my ass from Gyarados, and its worth the slot. Wish is for self and team support, mostly for the defensive combo. Protect is needed here for self healing, whats the point of having a Wish Healer can't heal itself propely!

---------------------------------------------
dpmfa145.png

Starscream @ Leftovers *** Zapdos
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe
Nature: Bold
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Light Screen

Zapdos, the physical tank of the team. Zapdos is probably one of the best DP has, it improves every generation. Zapdos helps me out with physical hits. Without Zapdos, I can't help to think how Heracross and Lucario will run over through my team horribly. Zapdos takes care of physical attackers (barring Weavile, Tyranitar, and Mamoswine, and this is where Forretress comes in) pretty well, and is an amazing Pokemon to have in general. Thunderbolt for the STAB, and random paralyzing never hurts! Heat Wave is for annoying Steel-types, such as Bronzong and Scizor, Metagross too, so this is my basic Scizor counter. Roost for self-healing. Light Screen helps me out a lot, as it makes Special Hits hit not only Zapdos, but the whole team softer, so a pretty awesome move.

Threat List

dpiconani094.gif
Gengar:
---Initial Switchin: Heatran or Zapdos, Tyranitar if I can predict another move that is not Focus Blast
---Life Orb Gengar: Not really a problem, especially with Light Screen up, though it can probably take out 2 - 3 Pokemon from me if used correctly.
---Scarf Gengar: Heatran or Tyranitar, this one is pretty easy.
---Subbing Gengar: Pain, as most carry Focus Punch and Focus Blast. My best option is to switch in Zapdos, set up Light Screen and heal up with Roost and spam Thunderbolts until it switches out or I take it down.
dpiconani242.gif
Blissey:
---Initial Switchin: Lucario or Tyranitar
---CMBliss: Lucario or Tyranitar
dpiconani130.gif
Gyarados:
---Initial switchin: Vaporeon, it does a amazing job at it.
---Bulky Gyarados: Vaporeon hits it with Hidden Power Electric
---STalk Gyarados: Vaporeon hits it with Hidden Power Electric
---Choiced Gyarados: Vaporeon can switch in and hits it with Hidden Power Electric
---Life Orb Sweeper Gyarados: Vaporeon hits it with Hidden Power Electric

dpiconani248.gif
Tyranitar:
---Initial switchin: Foretress
---BOAH: Foretress if it lacks Flamethrower or Fire Blast, does a pretty good job at handling them.
---DDTar: Foretress is pretty good at this too, as a Gyro Ball / Earthquake hurt, while Tyranitar does nothing with Crunch.
---Choiced Tyranitar: Foretress is better at countering this one.
dpiconani448.gif
Lucario:
---Initial Switchin: Zapdos
---SDLuke: Zapdos, with the Defense, it can take many blows and shrugg them off with Roost, pretty easy.
---SpecsLuke: This is probably a problem, the only thing that can take Aura Sphere is Zapdos, with some Light Screen support it can probably handle it better, other moves that SpecsLuke has can be dealt by Tyranitar.
dpiconani485.gif
Heatran:
---Initial Switchin: Vaporeon, or if I can predict right Heatran
---SpecsTran: Vaporeon, as Fire Blast won't be 2HKO'ing.
---Life Orb Heatran: Vaporeon can take its blows, barring Explosion.
---ScarfTran/ResTalk Tran: Vaporeon or Tyranitar, though Vaporeon is a better option.

dpiconani437.gif
Bronzong:
---Initial Switchin: Forretress or Zapdos, depends if its using Hypnosis.
---CMZong: Never faced one, so I can probably play around it with Heatran and Zapdos.

dpiconani373.gif
Salamence:
---Initial Switchin: Forretressor Zapdos
---SpecsMence: Tyranitar can come in and take a Draco Meteor, hitting it back with Stone Edge, Heatran and Forretress can come into Draco Meteor or Dragon Pulse, Heatran can revenge kill with HP Ice.
---MixMence: Tricky, I'll probably lose at least 1 Pokemon.
---DDMence: Forretress is my only thing that stands a chance at it, otherwise I have to predict and revenge kill with Heatran.
---CBMence: Forretress :)

dpiconani376.gif
Metagross:
---Initial Switchin: Zapdos
---CBGross: Zapdos does a pretty good job at this.
---ScarfGross: Zapdos lol
---Life Orb Pure Physical Gross: Zapdos can take hits from it and Roost them off.
---AgiliGross: Zapdos again.

dpiconani392.gif
Infernape:
---Initial Switchin: Vaporeon
---SDNape: Vaporeon can come in and hit it with Surf, and Zapdos can come in to Close Combat and hit it with Thunderbolt.
---MixNape: Vaporeon
---ScarfNape: Vaporeon

---------------------------------------------

Conclusion: I don't think I'll be changing this team, although some changed are obvious and will probably benefit better, but I really like this team how it "was", so this is in my trophy case, despite the bad comments or how people think this team isnt worth it, does not matter because its awesome. Credits to Earthworm for the team template, and being a cool guy, go #warau ^__^

When you are only using two attacks on Vaporeon, you really are picking your poison of which threat you would rather take out your team: Salamence or Gyarados. Since you chose HP Electric, your Gyarados problem isn't bad but your Mence problem is pretty big. Forretress can only barely handle CB Mence (Outrage does something like 40%), and it seems that you have alot of trouble with every other Mence varient. Two suggestions for solving this: 1) Use either Ice Beam or Toxic on Vaporeon instead of Protect. When I used Vap, I always found Protect a little too predictable, so it really works well to hit them with Toxic status when they are trying to set up on your Protect turn. On this team thought, Ice Beam> Toxic, as you lack SR. Your other option is to replace Lucario with another sweeper. Mamoswine would be a pretty good fit, but people see Mamo and instanly switch out of the Ice Shard. Scizor isn't a bad option either, as it hits Mence pretty hard with Bullet Punch and can take 1 hit from Outrage. Otherwise, I do think you have a good defensive core, and I really do like the team. Good Job :)

I would have to disagree with maddog. Replacing Hidden Power Electric for Ice Beam doesn't necessarily award you with a Salamence check, considering how CB Mence will 2HKO Vaporeon regardless. If you switch in against Outrage, you may Protect or switch to Forretress/Heatran; whichever option you decide to follow, Ice Beam has no impact whatsoever. This, and the fact Vaporeon comfortably covers opposing Gyarados, further indicates Vaporeon is more appropriate being accompanied with Hidden Power Electric.

In order to account for Salamence without having to take drastic measures, either utilize Heatran with more adaptability, which would consist of a move set alternation, by removing its Choice Scarf and Hidden Power Ice for Stealth Rock and Focus Sash; alternatively, re-arrange Forretress' current "Stalk" move set, adding Stealth Rock and leading with it, allowing Heatran to act as a "revenge-killer" without having to appear instantly on turn one.

that is a pretty good idea Taylor, I'll consider that set when making my next team, as Salamence is pretty nasty to a lot of my teams

To start, officially in the movie, the tank was called Devastator.
This is highly situational, but is a Specs / Sub + Special Movepool Tyranitar is combined with a physical attacker of similar movepool, you may have trouble, considering your only counter to the standard Tyranitar seems to be Forretress, and Specs destroys him.

I'm not sure on the damage, but Lucario does have Ice Punch now, so Zapdos isn't a sure-fire check if he gets a sword dance up.

Pretty standard team. I've never liked forry as a physical wall though, it's not the kind of thing I'd feel comfortable switching in on mence.

I mean this team is quite viable, but it seems awkward to play switching games with.

I guess the best way to put it is that there's not enough overlap for your answers. For example forry shouldn't be the only thing that can stop weavile. Well it would't be a problem if it was just weavile, but almost every offensive threat has only a single response. That makes you predictable and it makes it so that if they can kill that response with switching games or luck then the theat will wreck you.

I would add specific recommendations, but I'm unsure of what the "you can't drop me" is about. Do you want me to avoid recommending you replace the pokemon above the line? Below the line?

RATE: B

it looks like ice beam needs to be on vaporeon as ddmence outspeeds scarftran after a dd the majority of the time now and if it gets a dd and has fire blast you pretty much lose regardless. another option i see if running bronzong over forry and starmie over vaporeon. bronzong takes on dd mence easier as it will surive a dd fire fang and a lo fire blast and can either gyro if it's in killing range or just blow up. bronzong also lets you sr which you need desperately and provides another ground resist which helps. defensive starmie can help you for gyarados and still provide spinning if you feel you still want it.

It doesn't seem like a Resttalk set would work all that well on Forretress, given the current metagame. There are just too many fire moves, whether it is Zapdos Heat Wave, Salamence Flamethrower, Flygon Fire Punch, Magnezone HP Fire, or Heatran Fire Blast, you are allowing way too many pokemon to just switchin, especially since many teams don't even care if you Rapid Spin. I suggest replacing Rest with Earthquake, which threatens Lucario, Magnezone, Infernape, and Heatran, who all resist Gyro Ball and can set up quite easily. In place of Sleep Talk Spikes seems appropriate with all the resistances this team has.

Don't bother with "countering" Salamence; unless you want to shove HP Ice Bronzong or T-Wave/Reflect Cresselia on your team (though it could work for Heatran which could free you up to use Toxic Spikes for Forretress).

Tyranitar can deal with special variants (anything other than Hydro Pump means Mence eats a Pursuit on the switch), and you have to (as always) predict around mixed variants. (it would help if you changed Hasty to Naive on Heatran).

Uh

I really think Zapdos is a bigger threat to Lucario's existence than Gliscor - I would really run Stone Edge over Ice Punch. It does more damage to Appliance Rotom too (though you probably dont want to stay in on appliance Rotom unless you have Crunch or that Rotom is under 70% and you know it's not scarfed)

Restalk is okay on Forretress but you kind of have to have an extra spinner - I use it to put up Toxic Spikes/Spikes more effectively.

With that said, if a all-out offensive Dragon Dance Tyranitar gets a DD (depending if it has Life Orb or your team has taken residual damage) unless you have Gyro Ball on Forretress. It might be better to sub Swampert with HP Electric for Vaporeon, Scizor for Lucario, or even a scarfed Fighting type for Lucario like Heracross.
