The Speed Gamers, a group of video game enthusiasts who play for marathon hours to raise money for charities, have announced they will attempt to capture every Pokémon available in North America during 72 straight hours beginning 5 p.m. CST Dec. 19. The gamers will donate proceeds raised during the fundraiser to ACT Today, a nonprofit supporter of people affected by autism.

There are 491 Pokémon currently available in North America, beginning with Bulbasaur and ending with Darkrai. To reach the goal, the gamers said they will begin new files of Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, XD: Gale of Darkness, Colosseum and its bonus discs, Pokémon Ranger and My Pokémon Ranch. The Pokémon then will be transferred to a single game cartridge to complete the National Dex.

During the marathon, the group's blog will host a live Web cast of two games being played at a time. The blog will also host a checklist of how many Pokémon the gamers have caught.

This marks our 8th marathon; 4th for charity. We've raised approximately $10,000.

We are giving away a pokemon edition nintendo 64, pokemon edition Gameboy color, and also the cartridge we transfer all the pokemon to. All you have to do is watch and you'll have a chance to win.

Thanks guys!

C/ped from another site.

I thought this was really cool and some of you might think so too. If this is the wrong section, move it please.

Yeah this is more of a congregation topic.
but this looks really interesting, I'd totally love to be a part of that.

I don't think that's even possible. Too many evolutions, unless there's a D/P rare candy glitch that I don't know about. It's okay for the Emerald generation because you can rare candy those dudes, but I don't know if it's D/P-possible.

this would be a cakewalk, the only hard shit would be like shaymin or other exclusive shit you can only get at tourneys.

They've been doing this for months. I never really got how something like a video game speedrun (except they usually don't go that fast) would make more people donate to charity, but whatever works I guess!

This is a pretty awesome gig.
If they do this again next year, I'm definitely getting in on it!

And to anyone who's doing it this year:
You're doing a great thing! Be Proud!

i hope they get as many celebis as possible, damn i'd love to have that set up to get celebis

How are they going to get Mew?

I understand that they are using Pokemon Ranch but aren't there limiits to how many Pokemon you can add to the ranch every day. I don't think it's possible to put 999 in the ranch in only 72 hours.

I could be wrong.

It is called you change the date on the Wii

I think they are screwed on event shit. x_x; Hell, in years of playing I've never completed any of the Pokedexes, ever.

Still interesting, though, I would give a couple of bucks if I had a credit card :)
