The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a movie detailing the life of a boy who ages backwards, told from the perspective of his diary/last will. Benjamin was born a shriveled, wrinkled baby, almost demonic. At the age of seven, on the outside, Benjamin was a crippled man in his late 80s. Yet he still exuded the innocence of a child. Slowly Benjamin ages backwards, gaining new life so to speak; he gradually goes from a wheelchair bound man to a spry one. He lives in an elderly home run by his adoptive mother, queeny. Benjamin meets the grandaughter of one of the residents of the home, a seven-year-old ballerina, Daisy Fuller. Their lives would constantly intersect as Daisy and Benjamin made their respective ways through life, aging in different directions.
Benjamin Button deserves the highest accolades of the movie world. I would compare it to movies like The Dark Knight, Titanic, and Forrest Gump. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett had fantastic chemistry and truly brought the film to life. The dramatic symbolism and various stages of life in the movie were really riveting. I usually do not like long, dramatic movies, but despite The Curious Case being almost 3 Hours, I didn't lose interest for a minute. The life story was seemlessly woven together with an easy to follow format, being told like a story book with various digressions into a small other storyline (The story is being told from New Orleans in 2005, before a major event). The special effects in this picture were also astounding. The wizened man-child really looked like Brad Pitt, and it was very interesting seeing him truly age backwards.
I would give this movie five stars, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to waste their money seeing something else.
