Brüno

There aren't words powerful enough to describe this movie. Brüno (played by Sacha Baron Cohen) is the story of a young homosexual Austrian fashion reporter (with his own local television show), who after ruining a fashion show in Milan, is fired. He ventures to various parts of the world, seeking a way to gain fame, so he can be well known around the world. He is accompanied by his assistant "Lutz" and tries to take up acting, and an assortment of other things in his attempt to become famous. I don't want to give away too much information, you'll have to see it for yourself.

Brüno crosses the line like no movie before it. I'll give it to you straight (lol), if you can't stand crude/discriminatory humor, this movie if definitely not for you. The stunts in Brüno are fresh, original, and more contreversial than Borat. If you appreciate Sacha Baron Cohen's sense of humor, it'll leave you laughing your ass off throughout the entire film. The one complaint I have is that the film is too short. At 76 minutes long, it leaves me wanting more Brüno. I'll definitely be picking up the DVD when it comes out; I have no doubt it will be loaded with deleted scenes.

9.5/10 Stars for Brüno.

i liked it a lot! i think it will end up being rated higher in my mind than borat was, simply because i got so fucking sick of borat's 'catch phrases' being thrown around by every bro who thinks antisemitism is funny. bruno doesn't have many (if any) of said catch phrases so i think it will remain fresh in my memory!

my complaint is that i found it a bit less subtle than borat was, and not in the sense of how outrageous it was. i mean like how in borat he's insulting jews for the entirety of the movie, but the only warm-hearted and decent people in the entire film are the old jewish couple. little stuff like that i find quite clever.

one thing i liked more, however, is that from what i recall he kinda had to... coax ridiculous responses out of people in borat, whereas in this the ignorance and fear seemed a bit more on the surface. for example in borat when he's walking down the street running up to people trying to shake their hands, obviously people are going to be uncomfortable with that. whereas in bruno he can just be an extremely flamboyant gay man and he still gets the same apprehensive, thoroughly preposterous kind of responses.

not to 'spoil' it but i found the ending fucking brilliant. straight dave's man-slammin max out? lol. the audience reaction was fucking perfect. that one guy was crying with rage at the end!

all in all, it made me uncomfortable as fuck during some scenes but it was definitely a solid film. i have an affinity for anything that reveals how fearful and stupid people are though!
