The Justice League (OU)

The Justice League

Hello smogon, I haven't done an RMT in a while, but I've been experimenting with a new team. I wanted to make a themed team, and I like the justice league, and I thought many of the pokemon in OU seem to match the justice league perfectly.

Here is a quick look at the team:

Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Martian Manhunter, Flash, Aquaman

This team has had some success on shoddy, but I think I need some more expert advice :toast:

So, I'll start with the team building process.

Of course, the core of the Justice League is Superman and Batman, so I wanted to put them in first. So I chose Salamence and Gengar, which suited both perfectly. They are both very powerful attackers in OU.

Gengar.png

The next pokemon that seemed the easiest to choose was Aquaman, seeing the abundance of water pokemon in OU. Since my team now had two attackers, one special and one physical, my team needed a supporter and a cleric. And of course, vaporeon is that, and very annoying.

Gengar.png
Vaporeon.png

Probably my favorite character in the TV show was Flash, so I couldn't forget about him. I was lacking a lead spot, and I wanted something that was both fast, or could set up rocks. I chose Aerodactyl, because it was the best at doing both.

Of course, we couldn't forget about Wonder Woman. I wanted another set-up sweeper that had a lot of resistances, and was very bulky. Since I also wanted it to be female, I went with Latias.

Finally, I needed something that I was lacking to fill in the last spot on my team. I didn't have any good revenge killer yet, and I didn't want to switch Latias to a revenge killing set. I also needed something that both looked like, and plays like, either the Green Lantern, or Martian Manhunter. I chose Heracross, and it looked more like Martian Manhunter.

Drafting done, I decided to look over my team and try to spot some weaknesses. I saw that one of the most used pokemon in OU, scizor, could burn through my team. I was hesitant about the gengar/aerodactyl combo, and I thought it would be better if I had a steel killer on my team. So I chose the best in the business: Magnezone. (even though its not very fast, it was an electric type, so I chose to make it the Flash) Since I lost my stealth rock support then, I switched gengar to gliscor (in fact, gliscor looks more like a bat)

So thats the final team.
:nerd:

Now for some in-depth, starting with my lead:

Batman
Gliscor

472.jpg

Gliscor
@ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD
Impish nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Roost

Standard Gliscor Defensive set, Batman can also pack a lot of punch. This lead works great against Metagross leads too. I chose stone edge over aerial ace because I've also seen quite a few gyarados leads. My first turn, I usually stealth rock unless I spot an easy kill with Stone Edge/Earthquake. With roost, Batman can be very hard to take down.

Wonder Woman
Latias

380.jpg

Latias
@ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid nature
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Thunderbolt/Recover

This is the offensive CM set I've been running on Wonder Woman. Like her name, this set can work wonders in some situations. After 2 CMs, I can usually sweep an entire team (and take a hit). This is the main reason I chose Dragon Pulse over Draco Meteor, to be able to keep attacking. Surf is basically by secondary attack if something resists Dragon Pulse. However, I'm still not sure on the last slot. I've been running Thunderbolt for quite a while, but I've seen what Recover can do to keep Wonder Woman alive. However, I don't want to give up the super effective hits on flying and bulky water types.

Superman
Salamence

373.jpg

Salamence
@ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 232 Atk / 252 Spe / 24 SpA
Naughty
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake

This set for is pretty much standard, and it fits the same role on my team as Superman's on the Justice League. Come in to a weak attack or resist, Dragon Dance on the switch, and proceed to wreak havoc on the enemy. Outrage has crazy power, and if something resists it, Fire Blast and Earthquake cover other types. This set is insanely powerful in mid to end game, especially after Scizor is dealt with by Flash. I've been thinking about Dragon Claw over Outrage, so I wont be locked in.

Martian Manhunter
Heracross

214.jpg

Heracross
@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Guts
EVs: 2 HP / 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Night Slash/Toxic

Martian Manhunter is the revenge killer on my team. I usually bring him in when both my lead and my opponent's lead both die, and I choose the move depending on my opponent's switch. STAB Megahorn is very powerful, especially against psychics like Celebi or Cresselia, and I can usually 2 hit everything else with Stone Edge or Close Combat. However I am concerned with Manhunter's frailness and multiple weaknesses. I like Night Slash, but Toxic seemed very useful in case I can't take down a wall.

Aquaman
Vaporeon

134.jpg

Vaporeon
@ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68
Bold nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Ice Beam
- Toxic

The Standard Wish pass set works wonders for my team. I can always switch in on a water attack, and either Toxic the switch, or Wish and pass the next turn. Wish/protect combo is extremely annoying (I've gotten quite a few ragequits), especially when its 1 on 1 last pokemon. I've also fooled quite a few people, because they think I run Surf instead of Ice beam. Vaporeon serves as my salamence counter, because it can take an outrage and fire back with ice beam.

The Flash
Magnezone

462.jpg

Magnezone
@ Light Clay
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 162 SpD
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Thunderbolt/Explosion
- HP Fire

The Flash, the last pokemon on my team, fills the role of Steel (Scizor) killer and Dual Screener. Once I get my screens up, Latias and Salamence are beasts. I can usually switch in on a CB Scizor's bullet punch, set up screens, and kill it off with HP Fire. Currently, I am running Thunderbolt for the STAB and coverage, but I am thinking about explosion, just in case I need to kill something fast. However, with no speed EVs, I'm hesitant to switch to explosion.

So that's my team! Here's one last look:

Please rate, and I take any criticism/comments. :naughty:

And, threat list coming soon!!!

:pimp:

That's quite a solid team you've got there, but I personally think you should use the SubZone or ScarfZone sets. Without a reliable spinner or a lead that can make sure that Rocks don't go up, I think that you should go for a bulkier Mence with Roost rather than Fire Blast, since you have Magnezone to take care of Steels for you.

Also, side note: where did you get that awesome art from?

gliscor
@ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD
Jolly nature
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt / U Turn
- Earthquake
- Roost

Okay, so i personally don't like scrapping roost or earthquake for U Turn, so i've given you the option of choosing U turn or taunt. Gliscor excels with Taunt, as he can taunt slower leads, stopping them from setting up their strategy. U turn is also an excellent move for getting out of the field, and breaking sashes at the same time. Also, only use that magic number spread with a + speed nature.

Latias
@ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid nature
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Recover
- Thunderbolt

I wouldn't be using this guy till you've removed scizor with Maggy anyway o.o

Use Thunder bolt + Dragon Pulse, then CM + Recover. Surf + T Bolt is mediocre coverage

Salamence
@ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 232 Atk / 252 Spe / 24 SpA
Naive
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake

Always use max speed to tie with scarfers! And of course it's generally usefull for killing base 100's who also run max speed, if you win the tie.

Heracross
@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Guts
EVs: 2 HP / 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Toxic
Keep toxic for hitting incoming walls X]

Vaporeon
@ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Sp Def
Bold nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Okay, for Vaporeon i am going to reccomend Hp Electric over Toxic. If you have noticed, LO Jolly DD Gyarados tears this team apart after a Dragon Dance if SR is up. Same goes for Bulky DD gyara with ice fang, earthquake, waterfall. Even if it's adamant gyara, i wouldn't risk having only one check for Gyarados, considering it's in the top ten usage. Those Special Defence EVs are going to be usefull for countering Mixmence, also.

Magnezone
@ Light Clay
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 162 Spe
Timid Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Thunderbolt/Explosion
- HP Fire

This looks pretty cool, actually. I've never tried DS magnezone, but it's clearly working out for you. I suggest you keep Thunder Bolt and scrap explosion. I've also changed the nature to Timid so you have a better chance at outspeeding SD scizor with enough speed evs to outspeed magnezone. You won't really be in need of those defence stats with DS, and it's soley for steel killing, as you explained.

This looks like a very fun, and good team. Just be wary of Vaporeon getting KOed, it's pretty much the glue of this team!

Hi, this is a pretty cool team, I like the theme. On Latias, I would use Recover over Thunderbolt. After a few Calm Minds, Latias can KO most everything that she would otherwise be able to with Thunderbolt, and having Recover is an awesome thing on a bulky sweeper like Latias. Recover can keep her around for a long time, while also allowing her to keep killin'. After four Calm Minds, Latias can OHKO max Hp / SpD Vaporeon, even without Stealth Rock damage. Other bulky waters, such as Suicune, are easily KOed after just a few Calm Mind boosts (factoring in Stealth Rock). And Gyarados? Doesn't have a chance. I would also use Life Orb in place of Leftovers, as it allows Latias to grab an extra kick to her attacks; and with Recover, the recoil damage won't really matter. However, Scizor can really kill Latias badly, so be sure to put a hit on the Metal Bug with Magnezone before you bring out Wonder Woman. Oh, and definitely go with Dragon Pulse, not Draco Meteor.

On Superman, I would totally go with Dragon Claw. Being locked into Outrage is very unappealing on a setup sweeper, and even more so when you consider the confusion that comes with it; that can oftentimes be the difference between Salamence executing its sweep succesfully. Plus, Superman defintely wants Naive nature over Naughty, as more speed is always much better on a fast sweeper. I would also use Night Slash over Toxic on Heracross. While Toxic can be a good option, on a highly offensive Pokemon like Heracross, it is usually an inferior choice. I would also go for an Adamant nature on Heracross. While Jolly certainly does provide more speed, Heracross can usually outspeed most non-scarfed threats with Adamant, and the extra power boost can make the difference between a OHKO and a 2HKO on certain Pokemon, such as Jolly Salamence with Stone Edge (without facoring in Stealth Rock). Jolly is still a fine option, however, if you want to be able to always outspeed Timid Jolteon.

I disagree with Ace Madator. on putting Hidden Power Electric over Toxic on Vaporeon. With Toxic, you can still counter Gyarados effectively, without losing a reliable way to damage Blissey and other walls. I suggest using the Choice Scarf Magnezone set over the current Dual Screen set. While Dual Screens can support the team, Choice Scarf allows Magnezone to have more reliable ways of damaging steels, while still having methods of defeating other Pokemon, such as Gengar. Here is the set:

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Hp / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive nature (+Speed, -Special Defense)
~ Thunderbolt
~ Hidden Power Ice
~ Flash Cannon
~ Explosion

Pretty self explanitary set here: Thunderbolt is good STAB, and combined with Flash Cannon, has great neutral coverage. Hidden Power Ice provides you a nice check against Salamence, and Flash Cannon is more STAB. Explosion is a great move for killing Pokemon late-game, and can even KO Blissey occasionally after Stealth Rock damage. With a Naive nature, it reaches 360 Speed, enough to outspeed many Pokes. While it may seem stupid to have two Choice Scarf users on the same team, it can provide you with some wonderful methods of Revenge killing.

Anyway, I hope I helped, and good luck! =)
