A Modern Day Warrior [Uber RMT]

Introduction

Well tbh I'm pretty experienced in OU but the rest of the tiers not-so-much. I'm just starting in ubers so I need your help on this new team. It's mostly offense with two very defensive members (wobbuffet/blissey) who can both be very annoying if used correctly and they cover most offensive weaknesses i currently have. I am a huge ubers fan and have been trying to get into it for a while but never really had any experience/knew anyone who had any either. I mostly just threw out random ideas to come up with this team and looked at an uber threat list, picked pokemon to check things and counter other things and eventually it just came together. I love the uber metagame more then any other and it's just so much fun to play so im happy im actually getting into it eventually even though i won't be playing pokemon much longer. This rmt has a rush theme which is the well known canadian band that happens to be one of the best bands ever and if you don't like them; i don't like you. I haven't tested this team much but so far it's done alright. This team has a playstyle that happens to deal with mainly offense but having some decent bulky walls and is decently standard. Well I cant really explain much more seeing as i lack much experience in ubers so ill just get onto the team so more experienced people can help me with this uber team. I decided to do the team building a bit differently this time around; for once i'll be putting the team building section in the introduction.

Working Man @ Focus sash
252 Atk / 6 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly (+ Spe, - Sp atk)
Pressure
~Stealth rock
~Spikes
~Taunt
~Extremespeed/Superpower

This team does very well with Entry hazards as well as having a nice lead who can easily outspeed and stop most other leads that try to set up entry hazards who can be extremely annoying. Deoxys has an unmatched 504 spe without a choice scarf which is almost unbelieveable and beats out all other non scarfed leads. I chose focus sash over lum berry as with taunt you can stop darkrai from sporing you anyways. Extremespeed is standard but i could possibly run superpower over it for darkrai leads. Extremespeed also is the fastest priority bar moves like sucker punch/protect with deoxys-s' amazing speed. Shadow ball is also an option with running timid but at the moment ill keep Jolly E-speed. The evs are standard and the best you can run as what else do you really need to run with a deoxys-s suicide lead? Hits 289 Atk with jolly 252 which is mediocre for ubers but does fine with only one attacking move.

Tom Sawyer @ Life orb
252 Atk / 6 HP / 252 Spe
Adamant (+ Atk, - Sp atk)
Air Lock
~Swords dance
~Extremespeed
~Dragon claw
~Earthquake/Overheat

SD quaza is such a beast. 867 Atk after an SD with a base 80 power priority move. Wow. I don't have much experience in ubers but as soon as i decided to make a team this was on it right away. ExtremeSpeed always OHKOs Darkrai, and with help from Stealth Rock, a +2 Life Orb ExtremeSpeed has around a 87% chance of OHKOing 4 HP / 0 Def Timid Palkia and a 79% chance of OHKOing 4 HP / 0 Def Mewtwo, all of which are significant KOs. Air lock really helps being a unique ability that rapes the hell out of kyogre/groudon/tyranitar/etc. Dragon claw is a great STAB and i chose it over waterfall for the fact that it OHKOs giratina after an SD/SR damage which are almost ensured with the support from the lead/team. I could choose to run overheat over earthquake being able to OHKO scizor foretress and skarmory who can be annoying to this set. Swords Dance Rayquaza is very vulnerable to Lugia, due to having no way of boosting its Speed and the lack of Outrage. Because of this, Wobbuffet is highly recommended as a partner for Swords Dance Rayquaza for a number of reasons. Wobbuffet can use Tickle on trapped Lugia; after four, Choice Band Scizor can OHKO Lugia as it flees with Pursuit. With Lugia out of the picture, Rayquaza can easily sweep a team. Additionally, Choice Band Scizor can OHKO Gengar with either Bullet Punch or Pursuit, as well as OHKOing Weavile with Bullet Punch; which is why i chose to have scizor/wobbuffet on the same team as SDquaza. This team also runs Deoxys-s who works extremely well with SDquaza as entry hazards are a must for him sweeping.

212.png

Spirit of the radio @ Choice band
200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 sp def
Adamant (+ Atk, - Sp atk)
Technician
~Bullet punch
~Superpower
~U-turn
~Pursuit

Thanks to a combination of Scizor's typing, movepool, and offensive stats, Choice Band Scizor is an excellent choice in Ubers for a variety of reasons, the biggest of which being Scizor’s ability to revenge kill with Bullet Punch, and its ability to scout Uber teams with U-turn (which hits a large amount of the Uber metagame super effectively.) With this standard smogon uber scizor spread he can take a +1 thunder from latias, as well as take dragon attacks extremely easily. 4 HP Kyogre (who may switch in predicting a Bullet Punch) takes 52%-61% from a U-turn from the more bulky Choice Band Scizor. U-turn can easily OHKO darkrai, latias, latios, and offensive mewtwo. Darkrai is always 2HKO'd by bullet punch as well as many other threats in Uber which make scizor an amazing choice on an uber team. DD/SD rayquaza is also a problem to this team who gets a decent amount of hp taken from a bullet punch. One problem with using scizor are all the entry hazards which is good because im using a nice anti lead who taunts almost anything non scarfed as well as sets up entry hazards easily and fast in order to turn 2HKOs into OHKOs. Scizor really appreciates wish support from blissey which just makes the synergy even better.

242.png

Closer to the heart @ Leftovers
216 Sp def / 80 HP / 214 Def
Calm (+ Sp def, - Atk)
Natural Cure
~Wish
~Protect
~Seismic toss
~Toxic

Blissey is so great in uber teams especially with wobbuffet/scizor/etc that can really use wish support. I chose natural Cure over Serene grace as I'm not actually using any special elemental attacks, and Natural cure is great for absorbing statuses which fly around a lot in ubers. Seismic toss is preferred over a special attacking move with toxic as ghosts who wall it with seismic toss are stalled away by toxic/protect/wish. I moved the 80 Sp atk into HP for obvious reasons stated above as well as being a lefties point and that is the other most reliable stat i could've moved the evs into. Wish/Protect is preferred over Softboiled on this team as I can use her for passing wishes, and for stalling easier with protect/wish/toxic/seismic toss. Blissey is another one of those "ahh i hate using that thing so much" pokemon; but blissey pretty much makes this team way better then it is without it. Wish is also preferred over Softboiled for how many choice users you see in today's metagame. You can easily predict with protect for example; say something was going to pursuit, you could instead wish and take a base 40 power pursuit instead of taking a double boosted one. Most people usually use a cleric in ubers but wish just goes so well with other members on the team that i had to use it. This is also my main kyogre check. 216 Sp def was put over 176 as there are so many tank special attackers i shouldve really boosted sp def higher. 214 Def is filler and is as much that is needed in ubers.

483.png

LimeLight @ Choice scarf
6 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty (+ Spe, - Def)
Pressure
~Draco meteor
~Fire blast
~Thunder
~Outrage

Although Dialga is often seen as a slow, sturdy tank, Choice Scarf can make it an excellent revenge killer in the Uber metagame. Thanks to Dialga's Steel-typing and good defenses, it can easily switch into Darkrai as it uses Dark Pulse, and OHKO with Draco Meteor. Choice Scarf Dialga is also one of the few reliable revenge killers for both Swords Dance Rayquaza and Swords Dance Lucario, thanks to its resistance to ExtremeSpeed. I vouched for hasty with outrage so i can revenge kill blissey and latias. With dialgas decent 306 spe with 252 evs/+spe nature and a scarf it can outspeed many uber threats and take them out with it's amazing movepool and base 150 sp atk. Fire blast is there for scizor/skarmory/foretress who get hit harder by it then thunder. Choice Scarf Dialga, while being fast, is still outsped by other Choice Scarf users such as Garchomp and Darkrai which is why i ran other pokemon on the team who can take them out. 252 Sp atk / 252 spe are standard and take advantage of dialga's amazing revenge killing abilities in uber as well as checking things like SD quaza who my team was weak to before. I can consider running Naive which might be better for taking e-speeds easier and still taking resisted sp atks easy with his great sp def.

202.png

YYZ @ Leftovers
28 HP / 228 Def / 252 SpD
Calm (+ Sp def Def, - Atk)
Shadow Tag
~Encore
~Tickle
~Counter
~Mirror Coat

This sexy beast is a big part of my team. He can easily revenge kill choiced pokes in a weird way. They use a special attack; you mirror coat, they use a physical attack; you counter. That simple. Encore also helps killing non choice pokes in an easy way with very little prediction. Tickle helps rayquaza sweep easier being able to take down lugia/other things that can be annoying. Shadow tag is a douchebag ability and can make killing things/stalling things extremely annoying. Even with his mediocre defenses he has to be uber because of his HP and ability. The given EVs are fairly obvious, since Wobbuffet has a massive base HP stat and poor defenses. The 28 HP EVs allow Wobbuffet to gain maximum Leftovers recovery and, with a Calm nature, allows it to survive a Modest Kyogre's full powered Water Spout and OHKO back with Mirror Coat. Calm is emphasized over Bold because of the concentration on special attackers in Ubers. There isn't much else to explain about wobbuffet other then he supports other members greatly and works amazingly as a staller/easily killing things off with his amazing ability.

Threat List

The Ubers

Darkrai: Scizor is my best check; as well as rayquaza can revenge it at about 50-60%.

Deoxys (all formes): Speed can be easily revenged as well as Attacke forme. Defense is taken by scizor/just stalled out and normal deoxys is the same as how speed/attack are handled.

Dialga: My dialga speed ties scarf versions and beats most other versions. Bliss takes special variations and wobb can revenge it.

Garchomp: Dialga beats non scarf variations. Scarfers can be annoying but locked into dragon claw or something wobb can revenge it.

Giratina: Handled moderately easy with all the different dragon attacks flying around as well as scizor as a last resort.

Giratina-O: Scizor is my #1 switch-in as it can Pursuit / Bullet Punch it etc.

Groudon: Groudon is annoying if its RP+SD which is almost never seen and i can handle most other sets fairly easily.

Ho-oh: Special versions are rare and taken very easily. Physical versions are annoying but sometimes handled by wobb.

Kyogre: Dialga and other pokemon can handle about every set except for CM resttalk which can be very annoying.

Latias: Scizor, generally. Other things like dialga can handle non CM versions as well.

Latios: A stronger Latias, so I have to be more careful with Scizor. Lower defenses make it easier for dialga to handle.

Lugia: Lugia can be annoying but with tickle support its taken down with ease from a sweeper.

Manaphy: Don't see this that often but if i do then dialga can take it with a thunder, bliss can stall non rest versions, and other members on the team just annoy it.

Mew: Scizor kinda threatens it, it has so many different sets it's really hard to tell which set it's running though.

Mewtwo: Scizor can take it at around 50% with a bullet punch or bliss can wreck fully special versions. Dialga rapes non scarfed variations with a DM.

Palkia: Dialga takes it if it's not scarfed or if it is choiced and is locked into something dialga resists. Blissey takes special versions, Wobbuffet also takes it fairly well.

Rayquaza: Dialga takes the boosted e-speed and kos with draco meteor.

Shaymin-S: Bullet punch from scizor, Dialga takes the air slash/seed flare and kos with fire blast or pretty much any combo of e-speed from quaza then bullet punch etc.

Wobbuffet: Scizor revenges it with u-turn/pursuit.

The Non-Ubers

Blissey: Rayquaza+scizor hurt it a lot.

Forretress: FB from dialga, Rayquaza sets up on him/overheat, Wobb likes to Encore.

Lucario: Dialga survives a +2 e-speed and outspeeds the CC from jolly luke+KO's with fire blast.

Ludicolo: Scizor can take almost every attack from him if it's offensive and KO with u-turn if its the defensive variation i don't have much trouble with it.

Metagross: Fire blast from dialga, Wobbuffet likes coming in on a bullet punch then taking a MM/Bullet punch and countering him.

Ninjask: Not really a threat.

Scizor: Dialga deals with this one pretty easily.

Skarmory: Dialga, encore from wobbuffet, rayquaza sets up on it.

Tyranitar: Scizor handles this one pretty easily or something can revenge it if it's a CBTar locked into EQ and rayquaza comes out and sets up on it.

Team building

First thing i did was pick a main sweeper for my team as that's usually how i make all of my teams and i figured it would work for ubers as well. First i was going to pretty much copy theoryomons team and use SD luke as the main sweeper, tested it out with a random team, didn't like it, then switched to RP groudon who i didn't like either when tested. After thinking about it for a while i picked SD rayquaza and during testing it did amazingly which made it an obvious choice. I picked his set and decided to go for the adamant set and run e-speed, overheat, dragon claw, and swords dance with the standard 252 atk / 252 spe / 6 spe set.

384.png

Next thing was finding something that supported rayquaza in setting up for a sweep/making his sweep easier as well as being a weird form of revenge killer. I've always loved wobbuffet and he does extremely well revenging things like defensive groudon who can be annoying to rayquaza sweeps. I used the standard smogon set as there's not much you can really change in order for it to do much different.

Now i had rayquaza and wobbuffet and there was one more pokemon that came as an obvious choice; scizor. He revenges things just like wobbuffet and traps A LOT of the pokemon in ubers like latias/latios who can be annoying to this team. He actually works better in ubers then OU depending on how you use him. I ran the specially bulky set so i can take those special hits easier.

Next thing i noticed was i should probably get some wish support as well as something that can absorb status with natural cure. Blissey fit the spot perfectly checking most kyogre as well as things like fully special palkia/dialga etc. She really fit well into the team and Toxic/seismic toss stalling can never not be helpful.

After that i decided to put in a lead. Wobbuffet/Scizor/Rayquaza/Blissey REALLY enjoy entry hazards, especially spikes but don't enjoy getting hit by them so i decided to run a quit suicide lead who taunts pretty much every slower lead which prevents them getting up annoying entry hazards as well as pretty much ensures i can get up my own entry hazards. That suicide lead was Deoxys-s.

The final pokemon on the team had originally been specsogre, but after realizing i had a bunch of weaknesses left open and just the fact that specsogre didn't really fit in nicely, i decided to change it. Scarfdialga seemed to fit in really well and was suggested so i ran it. It also works as sort of a revenge killer for things like non scarf kyogre and +2 SD rayquaza.

Now that ive explained the team in detail all that's left to say is RMT.

Hi, this is a very solid team here. The only thing that may cause you big trouble is Kyogre. Calm Mind/Substitute and Calm Mind/Sleep Talk (if you lose Rayquaza) sets can set on Blissey without worrying much about toxic. In the Calm Mind/Substitute set your opponent can block toxic with substitute and boost Kyogre's SpAtk, also Blissey can't break Kyogre's substitues with Seismic Toss, if you switch to Wobbufet Kyogre can 2HKO it because substitute will take Mirror Coat damage. The Sleep Talk/Calm Mind can be stopped by Rayquaza but it's too risky to switch Rayquaza into Kyogre without knowing its set. With this set Kyogre can set up Calm Mind and recover HP and status with Rest, so Blissey can't do anything agaisnt this set. Dialga can hurt Kyogre with Thunder but after some Calm Minds, Thunder won't do much damage (unless you get a critical hit), also +1 Surf from max spAtk Kyogre will 2HKO Dialga.

You could use Calm Mind or Psych Up Blissey to counter Kyogre, with CM (or Psych Up) Blissey can hurt Kyogre with boosted Thunders and don't have to worry about boosted Surfs. The only problem is that you lose Wish support with those sets.

Overall I don't see anything else to chage. Nice team.

The Deoxys-s lead is pretty standard, although it doesn't fare as well against the top 5 leads, as it used to. More often, I often find myself only setting up stealth rock, and nothing else. Instead, I'm going to recommend this lead:
Shaymin-S@choice scarf
4 hp/252 SpA/252 Spe
-Air slash
-Seed flare
-Earth power
-Leaf storm

This lead beats both Deoxys forms 60% of the time, due to the flinch hax. Not even Deoxys-A's extremespeed 2hkoes, so you'll beat both deoxys-a and Dexoys-S 100% of the time even if they decide to attack instead of set up, and there's a 60% chance of them not setting up, due to the flinch hax as air slash 2hkoes Deoxys-s and Deoxys-A. Groudon is disposed easily thanks to seed flare. Kyogre is the only common lead Skymin loses to, because Leaf storm's inability to ohko, and with Kyogre able to paralyze or just flat out Ice beam Skymin. Darkrai is the only iffy one, as Air slash will only 2hko 30% of the time, so you'll have only a 36% guaranteed chance of beating Darkrai.

I also recommend changing Blissey to support Groudon, because he can check both SD Lucario, and SD Rayquaza and lay down stealth rock while providing the team paralysis support, also I'd say change Scarf Dialga to Scarf Palkia, because your weakness to almost all variations of Kyogre, Palkia will normally force Kyogre out of the way. However if you still want wish support, and a good Kyogre counter, then use wish Latias, she can heal the team and herself, and also calm mind up with Kyogre, and deliver a thunder.

Here's the sets I recommended:
Groudon@leftovers
252 hp/28 atk/196 def/32 SpD Impish (+ def, -SpA)
-earthquake
-thunder wave
-dragon claw
-stealth rock

Latias@soul dew
112 hp/204 SpA/192 Spe Timid (+ Spe, -Atk)
-Wish
-Calm mind
-Thunder
-Dragon pulse

OR

Palkia@ choice scarf
4 hp/252 SpA/252 Spe Naive (+Spe, -SpD)
-Aqua tail, for blissey switch ins
-Thunder
-Spacial rend
-Fire blast

Sorry for changing half your team lol, I just posted what I saw wrong about it.

I don't really have that much of a problem with SD luke/rayquaza so i don't see the need for having groudon on the team and bliss does much better wish passing to wobbuffet/scizor/etc then i can imagine groudon would do for the team. Out of the changes you made i can possibly consider scarfpalkia over dialga but the rest of your changes sorry to say were deffinetly not explained well enough and will just ruin the synergy of the team if im pretty much to add them for no exact reason making my team weaker to other uber threats in the metagame.

EDIT: thanks pirika and ill consider running psych up/calm mind bliss to beat resttalk or CM kyogre.

I listed Latias as an alternative to Palkia, because of it's ability to wish and beat Kyogre simultaneously, which your team is insanely weak to. Blissey is easily set up fodder for BU Dialga another pokemon your team is weak to once wobbuffet is gone, while latias isn't. Your team doesn't like entry hazards one bit, so the Shaymin-S lead will help prevent them being set-up.

Hi there. First off, your team looks SD + RP Groudon Weak. After one SD it will be able to more than half your team without much trouble. The only thing on your team that may be able to stop it is your Choice Scarf Dialga. But if Groundon sets up at least 1 RP it might be able to out speed.

I may recommend replacing your Scarf Dialga with Scarf Kyogre. Scarf Kyogre is a very cool revenge killer. There is also Scarf Palkia as Tripe said. Both are great sets and can deal with a lot of the boosting sweepers out there.

Ill consider it but most people don't run SD and RP on the same set and when they just run SD i can outspeed with many things and deal with it, and if they run RP i can take some of its hits and deal with it.

I have not rated in a while, so I'll give this a try.

The team is good, and I use something like it myself. However, I do notice that the Blissey on this team does not really fit, since his team is offensively based, serving as just one big check to a lot of special sweepers that you can probably already counter already, plus it sorta serves as set up fodder for RP Groudon, Lucario, Giratina O, and the like. Plus, you already have Wobb to beat down most Special variants of Palkia, which are Scarved.

I'd replace Bliss with something like Mixed Palkia to remedy your Kyogre weakness somewhat. Mixed Palkia also hits on both sides of the spectrum, so it would probably be the best member for this team I think. Either that or LO Mewtwo as a second revenge killer (watch out for Kyogre though).

Use Outrage rather than Aqua Tail as it is less weather dependent.

@ Tripe - He already has Scarf Dialga as his Rayquaza/Lucario check.
