This team has been very fun to play, it’s an offensive team that basically tries to get in Leafeon, baton pass a Swords Dance (or two) to one of my sweepers and sweep. The great thing about this team is that Leafeon gets so many free switches on a large portion of the metagame, so I have lots of opportunities to switch Leafeon in and wreck stuff. This team has been very successful on the ladder as well, getting my account HEA-RT-LESS to #4 on the leaderboard.
Team at a glance:
And now, the team in all its glory:
Mesprit @ Choice Scarf
~Jolly
~Levitate
EV’s: 56 Hp/216 Atk/236 Spd
-Zen Headbutt
-Stealth Rock
-Trick
-U-Turn
Mesprit is one of my favourite leads, not only does it get down Stealth Rock nearly every match, but it serves as a check to Roserade, Venusaur, Hitmontop, Blaziken, etc. Trick is an amazing move that cripples walls that can prove troublesome to my sweepers, and on many occasions it’s saved me from things like Crotomb and CurseSteel. Zen Headbutt easily OHKO’s 252 Hp/120 Def Roserade, the most defensive you’re likely to find. This is important as I’ve got 5 pokemon affected by Spikes, so stopping Roserade from setting up is a must. If you’re wondering why I’m running Mesprit over the more bulky Uxie, it’s because Uxie fails to OHKO Roserade with Zen Headbutt, which I’ve already explained is very important to this team.
Registeel @ Leftovers
~Careful
~Clear Body
EV’s: 252 Hp/40 Atk/216 Sp.Def
-Curse
-Iron Head
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
Registeel is an invaluable asset to any team is this Yanmega/Roserade plagued metagame. The ability to wall both Roserade and Yanmega, two of the most dangerous sweepers in today’s metagame, as well as a hell of a lot of other pokes, isn’t something that can be said for a lot of pokemon. Regi also has good defensive synergy with Milotic, as most of the ground/fighting/fire types that Registeel attracts are stopped cold by her. But the thing I love most about this guy is that it can also sweep any team that is unprepared for him. When I BP a Swords Dance to Nidoking/Arcanine, my opponent will often sac their Milotic/Donphan just to get rid of it, or they’ll just die to a boosted hit, and once they’re gone Registeel has a much easier time sweeping. The moveset itself is very simple. After a few curse boosts there are very few pokemon capable of 2hko’ing it, and then you’re free to boost up to +6 and sweep.
Milotic @ Leftovers
~Bold
~Marvel Scale
EV’s: 252 Hp/200 Def/56 Spd
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Hp Grass
-Recover
Oh man, this thing is so cheap. She alone checks almost half of the UU metagame, and with Registeel I’ve got pretty much every threat covered. The 56 speed ev’s allow me to outspeed max speed Adamant Torterra and OHKO it with Ice Beam. The rest are dumped in Hp and Defence. Hp Grass is necessary over Haze in order to OHKO Kabutops and Omastar, and 2hko Quagsire and Gastrodon, the former becoming increasingly more common with Recover as a HG/SS addition. There’s not really much else to say really, other than Milotic is a beast, if you haven’t got that yet.
Leafeon @ Leftovers
~Jolly
~Leaf Guard
EV’s: 132 Hp/152 Atk/224 Spd
-Swords Dance
-Leaf Blade
-Synthesis
-Baton Pass
The star of the show, Leafeon is bringing the pain. If you’ve ever played this team you’ll probably be thinking “oh shit” when you see this guy coming out, because it probably means you’re about to be swept. A Swords Dance boosted Leaf Blade is capable of ripping through a large portion of the metagame, and if I encounter something I can’t handle, for instance a Roserade, then I just BP to one of my other sweepers and let the slaughter continue. Bulky ground/water types that Registeel lures in are perfect set up opportunities for Leafeon, for instance Donphan, Azumaril, Feraligatr, Torterra, and Steelix will all switch in on him but none of them can touch Leafeon. The 224 speed Ev’s give him 310 speed, which is enough to outspeed Rotom. I saw no point in maxing it out just so I can tie with other base 95 pokes, as most of them I won’t want to risk speed tying with anyways. (Houndoom, Yanmega) The rest is a balance in Hp and Atk, so I can take hits better while still having a lot of fire power.
Arcanine @ Lum Berry
~Adamant
~Intimidate
EV’s: 192 Hp/252 Atk/64 Spd
-Flare Blitz
-Extremespeed
-Morning Sun
-Thunder Fang
Arcanine is the first BP recipient on this team, and let me just say that with a Swords Dance under his belt he is an absolute beast. Flare blitz is his main form of attack, and there are very few pokemon capable of withstanding a hit when he has a boost, and they are mainly bulky waters. Thunder Fang seeks to remedy this, by hitting Azumaril, Milotic, Slowbro, etc super effective. When I was making this team I had decided that I wanted both of my BP recipients to have at least one priority attack, and that’s where Extremespeed comes in. Often people will rely on priority or fast pokes to revenge kill Arcanine, but with Extremespeed those hopes are all but extinguished as it KO’s Honchcrow, Swellow, Yanmega, and most other things people will send in to kill him. SR and Flare blitz recoil can easily take their toll on Arc9, so Morning Sun helps keep him alive long enough to finish his job. The Lum Berry is there so I can BP to him even if I’m expecting a Thunder Wave or a Sleep Powder, and I didn’t want Life Orb with Flare Blitz as he’d just be dead within a few turns. The ev’s are simple enough. 64 ev’s in speed with a neutral nature allow him to outspeed adamant Honchcrow and everything below it, and max attack is obvious. The rest were dumped into Hp so Arcanine has some bulk, and it can take most neutral hits with ease.
Nidoking @ Life Orb
~Jolly
~Poison Point
EV’s: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spd
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Sucker Punch
-Megahorn
Nidoking was the last pokemon I added to this team, and I spend quite a bit of time deciding who my final sweeper was going to be. In the end I knew that without a poison type on my team I’d fall to easily to any team with Toxic Spikes, so I basically had Venusaur, Nidoking, Muk, Drapion, and Toxicroak as options. I also knew that Leafeon was going to attract LO Rade Sludge Bomb, so I wanted it to be able to take that as well. In the end I went with Nidoking as it had a 4x poison resist, Sucker Punch for priority, good speed, and a very diverse movepool. I won’t spend a lot of time talking about Nido, as its story is basically the same as Arcanines. Baton Pass him a Swords Dance, and watch helplessly as he destroys your entire team, blah blah.
So that’s the team, I’m open to any and all suggestions you may have, though I only ask that you actually explain your suggestions thoroughly. Lastly, I am not retiring this team, but with the new UU changes I’ll be giving it a huge makeover, so I thought I’d post it as it was before that happens. Thanks for your time!
