Mid 1400s OU team for small tournament elsewhere

I have been lerking the forum here for a long time(2-3 years) now. I started playing competatively around that time. Well off and on realy until recently when I downloaded Shoddy Battle in preperation for a tourny with some friend from a different site(yet to start). And that is why I am here, to get help for my latest team I have created. I tried several teams before I got to this one and had praticaly a 1-1 win ratio on Shoddy. But since I made this team after some changes of course I have rissen to the mid 1400s on shoddy.

The Goal of the Team is to get my Metagross in a possition to sweep in the late game, or mid game if I get greedy and they have no checks or the checks are dead. This is my first RMT here on Smogon so I hope I get this right.

Tyranitar@Lum Berry
lumberry.gif

Ability: Sandstream
Carefull Nature
EV: 240 HP/ 36 Atk/ 48 Def/ 184 SDef
~Taunt ~Fire Punch ~Crunch ~Counter

This guy has worked well for me so far. He is bulky enough to survive most attacks thrown at him. The HP EVs give me enough bulk to servive a MM form lead Metagrosses and EQ from Swampert and Hipppowdon. I use Tuant against other leads I know I am faster than. The list isn't too long but it does help from time to time. Depending on what lead my opponent is using I can someitmes prevent them from ever even getting they're Rocks down.

Fire Punch is great for weekening steels and hitting a predicted Scizor switch in. It wont kill it if it is at fun health but will make it weak enough to be revenged by anything on the team. It is always good to have STAB so Crunch is there to provide a great weapon to use against Suicide leads named Azelf as detailed below.

Weakness: Fighting and Ground go to either Zapdos or Latias. Water goes to Latias or Suicune. Grass can go to Zapdos, Latias or Metagross. Steal goes to Suicune, Metagross or Zapdos.

Against other Leads:

azelf.png
Azelf

Crunch while they SR and Sandstorm kills it.

MetagrossSmallSprite.gif
Metagross

Prediction is key against this guy, a well placed Counter can kill it. MM is never an OHKO on this Ttar set.

JirachiSmallSprite.gif
Jirachi

Take my chances with trying to Counter it's Iron Head, or just switch out/try and revenge it with Zapdos.

swampert.png
Swampert

Same deal as against Metagross, if they try and SR first turn and I use tuant it goes well from there as I used Counter when they fail to kill me with EQ and Couter kills them. So either they never get SR down or my prediction fails and I have a dead Tar.

aerodactyl.png
Aerodactyl

Crunch then Counter; they get SR but are down 1 poke.

dpiconani392.gif
Infernape

No way in hell I am staying in against this guy. Beings Fake Out is probably comming, it is almost as good as a free switch-in for Latias or Suicune.

hippowdon.png
Hippowdon

Prediction again; Tuant then use Counter.

NinjaskSmallSprite.gif
Ninjask

Tuant then spam Fire Punch.

roserade.png
Roserade

Lum provides me with a free turn(2 if a miss) to either Tuant/Fire Punch/Switch to Zapdos(if Tuanted).

smeargle.png
Smeargle

Crunch as my Lum prevents sleep and SS kills it.

heatran.png
Heatran

Tuant and switch to Regirock who can take a Earth Power well enough and get my Rocks up.

gliscor.png
Gliscor

Crunch/Tuant then use Counter. Risky but I'll try it.

460.gif
Abomasnow

Fire Punch for OHKO or get OHKO'd by Grass Knot. Might be better just to switch out untill I kill Abomasnow so I can switch Tar back in to replace Hail with SS.

CrobatSmallSprite.gif
Crobat

Lum stops sleep and I crunch. However, Super Fang makes Counter next to useless for latter uses :(

Mamoswine

Fire Punch and/or Counter.

Tuant and then Fire Punch. Counter if they have Gyro Ball.

Regirock_Reggae_Step_to_it_by_ksm.jpg

Regirock@Leftovers
Bag_Leftovers_Sprite.png

Ability: Clear Body
Careful Nature
EV: 252 HP/ 36 Atk/ 220 SDef
~Stealth Rock ~Thunder Wave ~Earthquake ~Stone Edge

What better than a Rock to setup Steath Rocks? While is does share almost the same weeknesses as Tar, it is much more bulky and serves the role of spreading Paralasys around my opponent's pokemon. EQ can do a number to Heatran as long as it doesn't have a Shuca berry. Although even if it does the berry will then be gone making it much easier for Metagross to take out lat game if it is somehow still around.

Regirock serves as the teams special wall for non-water attacks but can take a few in a pinch. Like against Gyrados whome I will try and T-wave and then Stone Edge as intimidate does not affect Regirock. I always like walls that could actauly fight back and this guys does the job spendedly.

Weakness: The same as Tar but not as bad since he can take a lot more attacks due to his bulk.

latias.bmp

Latias@Life Orb
Bag_Life_Orb_Sprite.png

Ability: Levitate
Timid Nature
EV: 4 Def/ 252 Spe/ 252 SAtk
~Thunderbolt ~Surf ~Draco Meteor ~Rocover

What better way to cover my first two pokes ground and fighting weekness than with a LO Latias with Reover. I use this thing to soften up my opponent's poke or even just flat-out kill them. Thunderbolt says hellow to Gyrados as Surf says hi to Heatran and any other fire type. Draco Meteor to guarantee a kill on any weakend pokes or those not sturdy enough to take the hit. Usualy lures out a Scizor(if Tar didn't already), who is normaly weakened by the time I send this gal out so even Surf and Thunderbolt can take it down. It is crucial that I make sure Scizor is weakened first as I chose not to use HP Fire for speed tie reasons(Gar & Lati).

Recover is even more important to have on Latias on this team due to LO and SS taking their toll on Latias. Sometimes when my opponent thinks I will use Recover to save Lati from dying I will use DM or another move instead. Now I will only due that if they're poke is a serious threat to my team, such as Swampert.

Weakness: Ice and Dragon can go to Regi, Suicune and Metagross.

Suicune05.jpg

Suicune@Leftovers
Bag_Leftovers_Sprite.png

Ability: Pressure
Bold Nature
EV: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SAtk
~Surf ~Ice Beam ~HP Electric ~Calm MInd

I always like to have more than one answere to a DD Gyrados or an other DD user and I figured that Suicune fit the job well due to it's great bulk and access to calm mind. While Vaporeon might surve the same purpose I chose Suicune because I like to maintain a level of offence on my walls/checks. Surf for STAB, after a few CM is can hurt most poke well enough. I chose to use Ice Beam in place of Roar simply just to have another way to kill/damage dragons. Plus if Roar was to send in something Suicune doesn't like then I am not giving my opponent a free turn while I switch. HP Electric is there for any Gyrados that tries to stay in. Most of the people I have played like to stay in and get greedy with Dragon Dances; not this time buddy!

Weakness: Electric can go to Regi, Latias and Meta. Grass goes to Zapdos, Latias and Meta.

Zapdos_Gayoo_by_WarBandit.jpg

Zapdos@Choice Scarf
Bag_Choice_Scarf_Sprite.png

Ability: Pressure
Timid Nature
EV: 4 HP/ 252 Spe/ 252 SAtk
~U-Turn ~Thunderbolt ~HP Ice ~Heat Wave

Ah how I love thee Zapdos. While having a revenge killer that is week to SR may not seem to be optimal especialy in SS, most people do not expect Zapdos to be this fast. Most people run Zapdos as a wall these days giving me the advantage a lot of the time. Maxed out speed to ensure I can out run +1 Speed pokes and some +2 Speed pokes, providing a check/Revenge against both Salamence and Gyrados.

U-Turn if I need to make a switch or predict my opponent will make one. Heat Wave because it is such an awsome move and can net me kills against Scizor, Jirachi, Metagross and aother noteable steels. This guy can even take out the remainder of my opponent's team if they lack an electric resist or any are gone.

Weakness: Ice & Rock can go to Tar, Regi and Meta; suicune for just ice.

metagross.jpg_thumb.jpg

Metagross@Expert Belt
Bag_Expert_Belt_Sprite.png

Ability: Clear Body
Naughty Nature
EV: 252 Atk/ 132 Spe/ 124 SAtk
~Meteor Mash ~Earthquake ~HP Fire ~Rock Polish

The whole Reson for the Team. I will only reveal this guy late in the game and only when I am sure that the opponent's team is weaked enough and that Rotom forms are dead. Not to mention that any status users are gone or are hurt enough to die to a MM or EQ. The most unusual thing this meta is that it is Mixed with Rock Polish. Basicaly a marage between Agiligross and Mixed Metagross. Late game MM can take down entire teams, especialy after an attack boost. Earth quake to take down anything that resists MM and then HP Fire for Scizor and Bronzong/Skarmory.

Expert Belt for a little extra kick and to help him take down any problem pokes. Rock polish was chosen because it does the same thing as Agility and is cooler IMO. It is worth noting how funny it is when my opponent switches in Scizor on the turn I use Rock Polish, giving me a free turn just to OHKO them the next with HP Fire. I am not to sure how much special attack EVs are needed to OHKO all Scizors. If possible I could move some EVs to Speed or HP if I don't need all 124 is special attack. But if I do that he will be less effective against other steels that EQ can't hit; I will probly keep his EVs the same.

Weekness: Fire goes to Suicune, Tar, Regi and Latias. Ground goes to Latias and Zapdos.

Threat list comming below!

Threat List: (Top pokes for october list from: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62134&highlight=Usage+October)

Aerodactyl: Tyranitar can Crunch/Counter the leads and my whole team can handle the rest.

Azelf: Tyranitar Crunch and SS kills leads. Zapdos’s thunderbolt can revenge most others that are not scarfed.

Blissey: Can be a problem for Latias, Suicune and Zapdos. But my physical attackers can handle her.

Breloom: Zapdos can Reveng it and Latias can Draco Meteor it strieght to hell.

Bronzong: Slowly wear it down with Surfs and other attacks. Use it as setup bait for Metagross sometimes and fire off some HP Fire. Counter from Tar could kill it if it uses EQ or Gyro Ball with low speed IVs.

Celebi: Heatwave from Zapdos,Draco Metoer from Latias.

Cresselia: Setup Metagross on non T-Wave users, Tar Crunch, T-Wave it with Regi to lessen it’s effectiveness.

Dragonite: Suicune and Zapdos hit it with Ice Attacks or smack it with boosted MMs. DM from Latias as well.

Dusknoir: Setup CM with suicune against him,Crunch form Tar to weaken, Revenge with Zapdos or Latias.

Electivire: EQ from Regi, Draco Meteor from Latias, EQ from Meta.

Empoleon: EQ from Regi, EQ from Meta, T-Bolt from Zapdos/Latias.

Flygon: Suicune and Zapdos use Ice and Meta can kill a weakened one after a speed boost with MM.

Forretress: Hit it with Heatwave from Zapdos or Metagross, or just use plain old special attacks.

Gengar: Latias can speed tie with non-scarfers, Zapdos can Revenge with T-Bolt or another move if it is weak and it is the late game. MM from +2 Speed Meta. Take my chances with Regi to T-Wave it. Regi servives Focus Blast almost aways, missed help too.

Gliscor: Ice attacks from Zapdos, Latias and Suicune as well as surf from the ladder two.

Gyarados: This poor guys has no chance at all. T-Bolt from Zappy, Latias and HP Eletric from Suicune. Even a Stone Edge from Regi can take down one who has alread received some damage.

Heatran: 3 water attacks and two EQ users say hi to this guy. Scarf means nothing if I can get in a Rock Polish on Meta. Either that or wall it with Regi and EQ/T-Wave it.

Heracross: Latias can try and DM it, Zapdos for sure can HW it, and Meta can HP Fire a weakened one.

Hippowdon: Suicune, Zapdos and Latias all can take it out as well as Tar using counter on the lead version.

Infernape: Water and ground attacks say hi, but if this guys is around in the late game he can be a serious problem.

Jirachi: Predict a Trick if needed since both of my walls can attack if needed. Switch out of the lead version or take my chances with counter/Fire Punch. Revenge with Zapdos most of the time.

Jolteon: Regirock can take a HP Grass or fighting and EQ. Meta can EQ, and Latias can revenge by surviving a shadowball and hitting back. If it has Choice Specs then send in Latias and use Recover while they switch.

Kingdra: Try and stall with Suicune, T-Bolt with Zapdos and of corse Draco Meteor with Lati. HUGE PROBLEM in the rain however.

Latias: T-Wave it, then kill it with ice/dragon attacks. Zapdos can Revenge a weakened one.

Lucario: Heatwave from Zapdos and EQ from Metagross. Most people use him late game so my Metagross usualy takes the CC and Rock Polishes or Rock Polishes while he uses Swords Dance, giving me a sweep.

Machamp: I hate this guy; Draco Meteor or try and catch him on a switch-in. Rely on STAB to take him down and hope Confusion doesn’t hamper my plans.

Magnezone: EQ from Regi and Meta, Heatwave from Zapdos.

Mamoswine: Suicune can take most attacks and surf. MM from Meta late game if it switched in.

Metagross: Zapdos can Heatwave and my Meta can EQ, Regi can EQ to a lesser extent.

Ninjask: Mostly leads so Tar Tuants and spams Fire Punch. SR and SS make it’s sash useless if it switched out. Zapdos can kill it with and of it’s moves, same with almost team member. Or I could try and use T-Wave on a predicted swith-in through Baton Pass.

Porygonz: Tar, Regi and Meta resist Tri-Attack and hurt/kill/cripple it. Zapdos can revenge with T-Bolt.

Roserade: Zapdos with Heatwave, Tar with Lum/Fire Punch(shaky with Leaf Storm), Latias can DM, Meta only fears HP Fire and can EQ/HP Fire.

Rotom-A: I need to kill these things if Meta is to have a chance to sweep. T-Wave from Regi is my best chance.

Salamence: Ice moves from Zapdos, Suicune and DM from Latias. Even Stone Edge from Regi can do the trick sometimes thanks to Clear Body.

Scizor: He thinks he is so cool, Mr, Popularity has nothing on this team. Predict and hit with Fire Punch, Zapdos kills it, Metagross surprise kills it when it thinks it can U-Turn/Superpower. Even surfs and thunderbolts can kill it after it is weak.

Skarmory: Tar can tuant and Fire Punch, any of my special attackers, HP Fire from Meta.

Smeargle: Never seen a non-lead, so Tar outright kills it with Crunch and SS.

Snorlax: HUGE problem if it is a last poke and is curselax. I pull out all of the stops on this guy. T-Wave to hopefully take away a few turns. Then switch and hit it hard with STAB attacks as I lack any fighting attacks.

Starmie: Zapdos can take on a non-scarf and Suicune can HP Electric it. Other than that I can hit it with STAB attacks as Starmie isn’t very bulky most of the time.

Suicune: Zapdos with T-Bolt, Latias with T-Bolt/Draco Meteor.

Swampert: Hate this guy, try and make it switch in a few time and hit it hard with Draco Meteor or STAB attacks for the kill;I hope.

Tentacruel: Zapdos can T-Bolt, Regi can EQ as Tenta doesn’t hit that hard, T-Bolt from Latias, Metagross can setup on him and then EQ.

Togekiss: No way your going to hax me! Zapdos can T-Bolt, Latias can T-Bolt/DM, Regi can T-Wave/Stone Edge, Metagross can MM after a RP to avoid flinching.

Tyranitar: Metagross can kill it, Suicune can kill it, Latias can kill it if it is weaked using surf. Zapdos can dent it with U-Turn.

Vaporeon: Zapdos can OHKO, Latias can T-Bolt/DM, Suicune can get in some CM against it then HP Electric.

Weavile: People still use this guy? So frail anything realy can kill it.

Zapdos: Regi can wall it and T-Wave/SE, except for sub versions that will stall out my SE pp. I can see this guys being a problem same as Rotom-A.

hello

I guess this is a Sandstorm team? It seems pretty nice!
Still I'm gonna give some comments and suggestions:

On a SS team Registeel is mostly used as a curser. If you do wish to use this moveset I suggest switching it to Registeel as it does a better job (with iron head over stone edge).

For scuicune I suggest an alternative EV spread:
172 HP / 120 SpA / 216 Spe and switch his nature to timid. That way you have a bulky sweeper.

hope that helped ^^

Sounds alright. My only concerns are having one less Fire risist and having less attack power to hit Heatran with initially and probly not being able to take any fire attacks from him. Also the high crit on Stone Edge is nice surprise comming from a wall. I will see how it does.

As for Suicune I like the idea of having her as a sweeper but don't like loosing her as a wall. How effective will she still be as a check to Gyrados(and Salamence) if I change to that spread?

Thanks for the imput BlackScizor and being the only person out of hundreds to even respond :) . I'll give those changes a try.

Oh and yes it is a SS per say. Just wanted to juice out a little extra damage or even just cancle out leftovers against the opposition. It has done well so far getting me to the mid 1400s on Shoddy. I would try and get it higher but I have no time realy. I think I left on a record of 15-3 since I started counting(not the begining).

Yes this is the bulky offensive suicune and a +1 adamant gyarados can't OHKO, while you can with Hidden power (Electric). If you desire an even more offensive Suicune (same moveset) I suggest an EV's spread of 4 HP, 252 Spe, 252 SAtk, with the life orb item. Although you can't directly switch in into an attack since it lacks defensive capabilities. If you want to use Suicune as a wall I suggest rest on her.

Ignore what I said before. Regirock is fine! ^^
Just replace Stone edge with Rock Slide, so you can utilise the Paraflinch technique.

I will try the bulky offence one, however I cannot give up the leftovers on her. Great idea for Regirock, the flinch and higher PP should come in handy.

Anyone else got some imput for this team?

Just thought I'd post to say, this is a really solid, yet original team full of great ideas (except for HP Fire Metagross, I really think t.punch, ice punch or explosion is better there, just put the SpA Evs into HP)

I main weakness I think your team has is Latias. Your Tyranitar looks like it will be low in health early in the match, so I doesn't pose a bug threat really. If Regirock is down then you have to rely on Zapdos's fairly weak HP Ice to kill it, which only has a 35% chance to 2HKO with stealth rock, or your own very pursuitable latias in a speed tie, which is pretty risky. Worse Still, if it is a Calm Minder, it can use your Zapdos to set up and beat the rest of your team. I would replace Hp Fire on Metagross to Explosion or Ice Punch, both of which provide an extra weapon used to finish off or weaken (in the case of Ice Punch) Latias. Ice Punch and explosion would also give you another weapon to use against DD Salamence, if Regirock and Zapdos are down.

Overall though, I think this team is great, with some really nice ideas to make it what it is and I think your use of rare sets so nicely together is what makes this team a success. Good Luck!
