Operation Evisceration- an OU RMT

Hello everybody! I'm Toxic Spork and this is my first RMT- indeed, one of my first posts, as I'm very new, so do be gentle. I'm also not a great battler, but I consider this a good team- most of my losses I attribute to my poor battling and simple mistakes. This team was created around what I consider to be a great late-game sweeper, or even mid-game- Bulky Swords Dance Scizor. Choice Band? Bah. This team will hopefully demonstrate that this guy should be used far more often as an SD variant. It does, however, have some weakness, and that, Smogon, is where you come in. So without further ado, allow me to present- Operation Evisceration!

~Team Building Process~

I knew I wanted to use a Bulky SD Scizor to base my team around, so I obviously started with him.

dpmfa212.png

What I thought I needed next was good synergy and a reliable stealth rock lead. After mulling it around, I considered Hippowdon, but then thought Swampert might be better.
dpmfa212.png
dpmfa260.png

My favourite entry hazard is Spikes, so I thought I'd add Skarmory. Plus, he lures out Magnezone or Rotom-H out before I send out Scizor so that I can plan accordingly- so I added him.

I now needed to think about counters. I decided upon the 'mon whose synergy and teamwork with Scizor is legendary- Latias.

Sand seemed like it could be beneficial, and I need a good revenge killer, so I decided upon Tyranitar (T-tar? Revenge Killer? What? I'll explain it in the analysis).

This seemed like a pretty good core, but I had a Gyrados weakness, so I added a Vaporeon.

After a very helpful rate, I replaced Vaporeon with a Jirachi, and the final team was put into order.

~Under The Microscope~

Entry Hazards + PHazing- Part 1

Swampert.jpg

Jones (Swampert) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs:252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Atk
Nature: Relaxed (+Def, - Spe)
-Earthquake
-Ice Beam
-Roar
-Stealth Rock
A standard MixPert lead. I've always enjoyed the great synergy that Skarmory and Swampert share, and usually use them if I want spikes and stealth rock. Earthquake and Ice Beam provide pretty good type coverage for two moves, and take advantage of both Swampert's good Atk and SpAtk. Stealth Rock is obvious, as most leads nowadays need it. Roar is for pseudo-hazing and for racking up Stealth Rock and Spikes Damage, to ensure that pokemon like Salamence don't set-up (if I don't Ice Beam him first).
These EVs and Leftovers are designed to turn Swampert into a physical wall, and to make him as bulky as possible.The Relaxed nature is to make sure that neither Ice beam nor Earthquake gets a significant drop in power.

Entry Hazards + PHazing- Part 2

Skarmory.jpg

Franz (Skarmory) (M) @ Shed Shell
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs- 252 HP/4 Def/252 SpDef
Nature: Careful (+SpDef, -SpAtk)
-Roost
-Spikes
-Taunt
-Whirlwind
This set is much better. With SpDef EVs, Skarmory has a much better chance of getting up the spikes he demands, and now special hits are possible to take. I also lacked any good means of taking special hits until I changed this set. Anyways, Skarmory and Swampert have superb synergy, so as far as spike-stacking goes, I always use them together. Whirlwind is to scout the opposing team and to rack up entry hazard damage. Roost is to heal. I used to have brave bird here, but it didn't really do any damage, and taunt has proven very useful.
This guy also serves a very important purpose. Some of Scizor's biggest counters are Rotom-H, Magnezone, Zapdos, or Heatran. If my opponent has one of these, then he/she will usually send one out against Skarmory, making me aware of his presence so I can make plans to dispatch that annoying 'mon.

Old Set:
Franz (Skarmory) (M) @Shed Shell
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs- 252 HP/ 64 Atk/ 192 SpDef
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpAtk)
-Brave Bird
-Roost
-Spikes
-Whirlwind

Sand and Surprise!

Tyranitar.jpg

Jerome (Tyranitar) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 120 Atk/136 SpAtk/252 Spe
Nature: Hasty (+Spe, -Def)
-Crunch
-Earthquake
-Flamethrower
-Ice Beam
Ah, scarfed Tyranitar. This guy is incredible. At 364 speed and great mixed attack stats, this guy is my main revenge killer. His sand greatly benefits Scizor in his sweep, and with his SpDef augmented by the sand he produces, he can absorb weaker special hits. Nobody runs a scarfed T-tar, so he has a certain surpise factor about him. Say a 'mon of mine get pwnd by a Scizor, locked into Superpower. Send out Tyranitar. This will often leaved them puzzled, and they will oftentimes just go for a second KO. I then burn their bug into a fiery crisp. This is one of the many situations that this rampaging dinosaur's scarf has come in handy. He is also my main means of dispatching Heatran and Rotom forms. His moves offer remarkable coverage and allow me to kill as many things as possible. He is also good at feigning a Choice Band.

My Angelical Battering Ram

380_Latias.jpg

Calypso (Latias) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spe/ 252 SpAtk/ 4 Hp
Nature: Timid (+Spe, - Atk)
-Draco Meteor
-Recover
-Surf
-Thunderbolt
This Latias is an imporvement from the Specs Latias, because she still has decent power but has the freedom to switch moves. Latias' synergy with Scizor is air-tight, as Skarmory and Swampert, and when she switches into the many moves she can take with ease, something is going to get hurt. Dragon + Water + Electric is unresisted by everything except Shedinja (lol), meaning that anything not pink, fat, and with an egg in a pouch gets a big dent in it's side. The difference here is that I can switch move, which I never realized was such a hindrance. Everybody assumes a Latias is choiced nowadays, so I have some element of surpirse, and a means of healing myself.
Old set:
Calypso (Latias) (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spe/ 252 SpAtk/ 4 HP
Nature: Timid (+Spe, - Atk)
-Draco Meteor
-Dragon Pulse
-Surf
-Trick

Don't Worry Scizor- I Got this!

Wish.jpg

Ephraim (Jirachi) (M) @Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Hp/ 252 Def / 4 SpAtk
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
-Calm Mind
-Psychic
-Thunderbolt
-Wish
This guy is incredible. MVP by far. Before I even consider using Scizor, the game's already over. Why? Jirachi ended it. People sometimes wish they didn't have to fight a Scizor everytime they hit the Find button. Be careful what you wish for. (Jirachi pun)
This 'mon does everything Vapoureon did (fry Gyrados and pass wishes), and poses a considerable threat to anybody who doesn't expect it, which for some reason seems to be everybody. This mini crocune even fought it's way through a Celebi! If you haven't used a Calm Mind Jirachi before, I'd recommend it.
Old Set: Lucius (Vapoureon) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4SpAtk
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
-Hidden Power (Electric)
-Surf
-Protect
-Wish

The Janitor

scizor.jpg

Carlyle ( Scizor) (M) @ Leftovers ^^ oh hai Legacy Raider
Ability: Technician
EVs: 200 HP/ 252 Atk/ 56 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, - SpAtk)
-Bullet Punch
-Roost
-Superpower
-Swords Dance
This bug is a beast. He's called the Janitor because, after the party's over, he just sweeps up what's left. Or, he can be a nuisance to all the party-goers and show up right in the middle and start sweeping away. After 2 or 3 Swords Dance, the game's already over. If I get enough swords dances, he can Bullet Punch my way through what are supposed to be his counters, like Infernape or Rotom-H. If my opponent has no good counter after I PHaze my opponent's team to see what he has, I just send him in after Swampert kicks the Bucket- their great synergy certainly gives him many opportunities. I'm considering a non-bulky version for this slot for even greater mayhem, but I like his ability to Roost off damage from walls like Gliscor and SD when they eventually switch out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And that Smogon, is my team. Like I said, this is one of my first RMTs, so please no flaming- all constructive criticism is greatly appreciated, however.
Okay, the team is fairly good, but there are some changes to be made. The first thing I see is the dual choice Pokèmon. I don't like it. What I want to suggest is to change up Latias a little to start. Life Orb Latias looks like a better option in the place of Specs Latias. First of all, you get the freedom of being able to switch attacks. The main reason I want you to use it is because of the healing power. Roost is really valuable on your team, and it allows you to have more breathing room against a lot of things that can trouble you. You can also play a lot less carefully with it, and switch it into a lot of random attacks. Not to mention that Vaporeon has been doing poorly, so this should help with Gyarados.
Speaking of Vaporeon, I don't like it, you don't like it, let's replace it. You already have Swampert, and now Latias, to deal with fire attacks reliably. Latias can kill it if it's in good health, and if it isn't, you can wear it down with sand + sr + weak attacks. It's still a problem, but not as big. What worries me is the problem you have with stall. I mean, Scizor is okay in a last Pokèmon situation, but it all has to go right for you to win. Rotom can totally burn it and shut it down. Gyarados can beat it too. So what I want to do is add a Calm Mind - Wish Jirachi to the mix. He can beat stall single handed, every single time. The only thing you may need to do would be to weaken a Swampert, but that's not a problem. He provides Wish support, and a solid physical defense for your team that you would like. He actually only takes 55% from a ScarfGon's Earthquake.
Jirachi | Leftovers | Bold
252 Hp | 252 Def | 4 SAtk
Calm Mind | Wish | Psychic | Thunderbolt
My last change is to make Skarmory a different version of itself. The version I'm talking about is specially defensive Skarmory. His physical defense is already mammoth, and he can take a lot of weak special attacks if you just pump the evs into it, and he can still take a lot of physical attacks. It'll help you get Spikes up a lot easier, and that will help you break down a lot of threats that can give you problems otherwise.
Skarmory | Shed Shell | Careful
252 Hp | 252 SDef | 4 Def
Brave Bird | Roost | Spikes | Whirlwind
That's all I have to say, I hope my changes help.
Thanks- these look like helpful changes. I have had problems with getting my spikes up and with stall teams, so I'm going to implement these changes immediately! :naughty:
First of all, this looks like a solid team. Scizor's best counters are Zapdos, Infernape, Rotom, Gliscor, Skarmory, Heatran and Gyarados, and most teams carry at least two of them, so pulling off a Scizor sweep is gonna be a little difficult. Also, imo Tyranitar is a much better late game cleaner, so I suggest you make him one:
Tyranitar @ Lum Berry | Sand Stream
Jolly | 252 Speed | 252 Attack | 4HP
Dragon Dance / Crunch / Stone Edge | Fire Punch
This set makes a much better late game cleaner. Dragon Dance to raise your speed and attack to actually sweep late game. Crunch is for STAB and for a super effective hit on Latias and Gengar which you out speed after a Dragon Dance. Fire Punch to hit steel for super effective or you could go with Earthquake to hit them harder, but then watch out for things that are immune to it. You could go with a bulkier set if you feel like it could do better or change his item to Babiri Berry if you feel like Scizor will be a issue. Now that your main counter to Latias and Gengar is gone, I suggest you make Scizor it:
Scizor @ Choice Band | Technician
Adamant 160HP | 176 Att | 168 SpD. | 4 Speed
Bullet Punch / U-turn / Pursuit / Superpower
This set does a good job at trapping Latias and Gengar like Tyranitar. Bullet Punch to revenge kill Latias, Gengar, Salamence etc. Pursuit if you think they will switch. U-turn to scout and Superpower for Magnezone trying to trap you or other steels. The evs prevent specs Latias from 2HKO you with surf. Life Orb Latias will also do 40.50% - 47.66% with Draco Meteor and 18.69% - 22.12% from a -2 Surf afterward giving you a solid switch in letting you pursuit her. Next, Latias will almost always lure in Tyranitar's best counter Scizor. So I suggest changing her set:
Latias @ Life Orb | Levitate
Timid | 252 Speed | 252 Sp.Attack | 4 Defense
Dragon Pulse / Grass knot / HP Fire / Recover
Dragon Pulse for STAB and and hitting other dragons for super effective. It does 32.92% - 38.86% to max HP Tyranitar and Grass Knot does 50.00% - 58.91% which will 1HKO with Stealth Rock and a layer of spikes. But most importantly, HP fire will 1HKO Scizor trying to trap you and help with your Tyranitar sweep. Now Skarmory. I think the new popular Taunt Skarm will do much better than your set:
Skarmory @ Leftovers | Keen Eye
Careful | 252 HP | 108 Speed | 148 Sp.Def
Taunt / Spikes / Roost | Whirlwind
This set still does a good job at spike-stacking and shutting down things trying to set up like curse lax, tyranitar, and suicune. The evs let you out speed most things on stall and four extra evs to out speed other skarms.
Anyways, good luck with the team and hope I helped!
These look like valid suggestions, and I'm sure it would help, but... I really don't want to implement them. I don't want to totally overhaul my team. This team was centered around a Scizor sweep, and I certainly want to keep it that way. If I wanted a Tyranitar sweep, I think a whole new team would be in order. Besides, I really like my scarf Tyranitar and the element of surprise he brings. However, I do like that Skarmory, and I'll go test it. Again, thanks for your suggestions.
Yeah, currently you need to keep scarf-Tar as you need a revenge killer. This team is extremely weak to Lucario and your best bet against it is revenge killing it with TTar.
Tbh, this team is also very weak to SD Scizor, as it can bypass TTar speed with bullet punch and then 1hko every member of your team. I reallly think that you should try to insert something like Rotom somewhere, else you might switch your Jirachi set to:
-iron head
-fire punch
-wish
-thunder punch
with a jolly nature and an EV spread of: 80 HP\ 252 Atk \ 176 Spe
You'd lose some sweeping potential but you'd earn a decent check for Scizor and a second answer to SD Luke, while keeping wish support for your team.
Note that you're also pretty weak to Gyarados as an offensive Gyara can outspeed and 1-2hko your whole team after a DD, but I guess that you can play around it with Skarmory, Swampert and Jirachi.
Finally, I'd suggest dragon pulse over DM on Latias as even losing some power on the first hit, dragon pulse doesn't force you out and doesn't allow things like Empoleon to set up on you or CB Scizor to switch in basically for free.
Just some thoughts.
