Newbie Introduction Forum

Well I just signed up here and I didn't know where to start myself here since there really isn't any designated newbie area. So forgive me if i'm overstepping my bounds by suggesting something so soon, but this place really could use a new user's forum or something to help people ease into the community.

Also, as a side note, I'm happy to be here and I'm hopeful to learn a bit about competitive battling.

I agree. There should be a thread or something for new users to make an intro. Probably in the congregation of masses somewhere....hmmm

It's been done before, and all it was was pointless PC++ spam. If you really want to make yourself known, read up on the rules/metagame threads, play some shoddy, and make some intelligent posts about competitive Pokemon from your experiences.

All right. A pity that didn't work out in the first place. Have to say, I don't really know much about competitive battling so I guess i'll just lurk around a bit.

Not to be too cold.

But why should anyone care about every random user that signs up on the forums? You go "Hi! I'm a xteen year old teenage boy, I like Pokemon! I hope to get into competitive battling. In my free time I play these other video games and listen to these bands. Woot!". Who gives a shit about that?

I don't see the point of this. I guarantee that if you make good posts that contribute well to the thread, people won't care about your postcount. If you know nothing about competitive pokemon, then lurk some and/or sign up for Battling 101. Either way, you'll eventually learn enough to make some good posts. The main reason why it doesn't matter is because even if you make a post in the thread for newbies, it won't set the standards for your posting lower. You'll still have to learn, so it's just pc++. Postcount doesn't matter anyways, and is no substitute for experience/intelligence.

I'm new... but I don't think this is necessary...

I think there are too many forums where people have an intro thread.. which is either a HUGE block of text that no one wants to read, or a short "I'm new!" post that is kinda... boring.... and then like... what else is there to say? A bunch people reply with "Welcome!" posts... and then you gotta thank them ... or say hi back... It's just weird imho >.<

Still, I'm kinda impatient waiting 10 days to fill the requirement to sign up for 101... @__@;

I agree, I don't think it's necessary. I don't know about others, but when I join an online forum I've often either been lurking for a while, or found it by a web search, and decided I want to post something. When I join forums that have newbie intro sections, more often than not I neither read nor post in them.

So I'd say, just join, and post. Your first meaningful posts will serve as introduction - for better or worse. There's no real need to give any background.

That is what is recommended you do. A newbie forum is completely useless. Nobody is going to read your introductions. You can integrate yourself into the forum by reading for a while and then chipping in if you have intelligent comments to make.
