“Generic” OU

Yeah, yeah, yeah, blabittiblabittiablah. You can skip the intro if you want, I know it’s boring. But I just feel inclined to say it on my first post, you now, background information. Being my first post, it was unimaginably difficult to manage...so many technical difficulties.

I’ve always wanted to do these for a…long time now, but Magma Admin encouraged me to go on with it. Since my Internet is down most of the time so I can’t do my “important stuff,” I’ll just do these when I can. Enough with the chit-chat, let’s get rolling with your special privilege: starting your tour with the workings of each and every one of my teams.
Let’s start with a history lesson. I first came to Shoddy on May 26, 2009. Smogon had mentioned Shoddy, and Serebii had mentioned Smogon, and I’ve been associated with Serebii for years… I was actually one of the people who “read the rules,” so I didn’t ask for a match on Main Chat. Instead, the first thing I saw when I logged in was Coco. acting stupid on the Main Chat. I composed a quick team from random Pokémon off Serebii’s guides (which I find more thorough than Smogon’s). After that, I immediately challenged Noah.
Eventually, I believe I finally got a match off the Ladder. I got decimated by a Ninjask → Marowak combo (I can’t recall how I was able to allow Ninjask to get away with a Swords Dance, but I was semi-inexperienced at the time. It was my first match with a human…). After that, I began modifying my team, and it evolved into the excellence it is now. I Laddered with it and familiarized with it (it’s very hard to pilot efficiently otherwise), but I stopped Laddering due to “personal reasons.” Not long afterwards, I decided “just one isn’t enough.” I made teams for all tiers, all styles (this one is an all-around OU). After that, I made F@IL teams, copying the Gym Leaders from the anime. And, since all my teams were like this anyways, I decided to make INNOV@TION teams, specifically focusing on Monsters that don’t merit enough moves, examples being Stockpile Hippowdon and RestTalk Garchomp. Now, I use my teams to help test the teams of others, and I offer advice on the Main Chat and elsewhere, even though at my time of typing this I’ve been with Shoddy less than a year. It’s one of the best things that ever happened to me. I just like helping people, that’s all.
So let’s see the makings of the team that started it all, my first and my best team (ironically, I sort of randomly threw them together, unlike the rest of my teams where I intricately planned them carefully).
(the funny thing about the team is that half of it is shiny, and I have one male, one female, and the rest genderless)

Premier Ball set-Echo, DOTAKUDON: Hollow Note!

premiergc1.png

Leftovers
Levitate
252 HP/52 Attack/204 Def (0 Speed IV)
Relaxed (+Def, -Speed)
Gyro Ball
Explosion
Hypnosis
Stealth Rock

Aww, how nice, it’s a bulky suicide lead! The things that cause it trouble are Magnezone switch-ins and offensive Starmie leads. The speedy critters better not try to Taunt me, because I will Gyro Ball their face (though the Taunt is slightly annoying after I crush them). Stealth Rock and Hypnosis are not overly necessary for the team; they’re there to annoy my opponent. I rarely ever get a chance to Explode; Bronzong serves as an overall good defensive wall, but this past minute, I wonder if I should transfer it to special defensive.

Luxury Ball set-Take flight, WINGBLAZE: Eternal Phoenix!

luxury2vo7.png

Leftovers
Pressure
248 HP/148 Def/112 Speed
Bold (+Def, -Attack)
Flamethrower
Will-O-Wisp
Substitute
Roost

Don’t underestimate my Phoenix, here; it proved itself to be the most important Pokémon on the team. The entire team is now dedicated to protecting it. …did more for the team than that Aromatherapy Blissey ever did for me… Er, anyways, this Moltres is very powerful defensively, being able to take Explosions at ample health. As for things such as Gyarados and Tyranitar? If they intend to take me out with physical moves, they’re hopeless. Just trust me, Moltres will turn up victorious. Even if Will-o-Wisp misses, chances are I’ll survive to try again, and if I get really unlucky (That doesn’t happen often; I usually get all the hax in a match.), I can switch. The whole team has a vendetta on the common sweepers (Yes, my team just happened to turn out that way. This entire team was an accident. I don’t know how I considered Moltres to replace Blissey, though…possibly due to resistance to Fire).
Whenever someone asks me for “a good team,” I immediately offer my best team, with the warning that “Moltres may be hard to control.” Zapdos, of course, is a tamer option.

Premier Ball set-Jack in, BACKUPFILE: Deletor of Viruses!

premiergc1.png

Expert Belt → Life Orb
Adaptability
4 HP/252 Speed/252 Special Attack (30 Def, Speed, Special Attack, and Special Def IV)
Timid (+Speed, -Attack)
Nasty Plot
Tri Attack
Dark Pulse
Hidden Fighting Power

The guy who did my first match told me I lacked Special Attacking and I had a massive Fire problem. Interestingly enough, I did some research and it was Porygon – Z who had replaced Forretress and Starmie replaced Metagross, not the other way around. Either way, Porygon – Z is my Special Attacker. Enough said. It just blows things to pieces, ANYTHING. I also use it to take Shadow Balls. When I lose a match, chances are likely Porygon – Z is the last one I have out. Even Infernape doesn’t cause much trouble, because by the time I have this guy out, there is a lot of pressure for the opposing team. One thing I especially like is Lucario who think they are Adamant enough not to ExtremeSpeed, because Hidden Power busted them up even with Expert Belt. I was certain I picked Life Orb, but then someone pointed it out on about November, long after I established the final team.
Porygon – Z also happens to net the largest amount of catchphrases of anyone on my team:
Preparing to Sweep: DELETEDELETEDELETE
Using Nasty Plot: CHARGING LAZER
After using Nasty Plot thrice (which happens quite often): LAZER FULLY CHARGED
Using Tri Attack: FIRING LAZER
Fainting (usually at the hands of Infernape): You broke my computer!
Aside from this, most people comment on Porygon – Z’s name more than any other team member.

Poké Ball set-Surface, GLITTERBOG: Curse of the Swamp Monster!

pokese6.png

Leftovers
Torrent
252 HP/136 Def/120 Special Def
Careful (+Special Def, -Special Attack)
Curse
Aqua Tail → Waterfall
Avalanche → Stone Edge
Earthquake

On January 11, I changed this guy’s name from GLITTERBOG to MudkipzGoMoo, a term I had coined. All other teams with Swampert have GLITTERBOG. Anyways, this is a defensive complement to Moltres (I didn’t even realize this until someone pointed it out). Swampert, actually, is my main Dragon slayer. Curse or regardless, chances are he will survive +1 Outrages and return with a OHKO (though with the recent loss of Salamence and Latias from OU I have since tailored it to better stand against Gyarados, but I'm thinking of changing Waterfall to Avalanche due to Grass issues). Swampert is also the one I send out against CurseLax (once the guy OHKO me after we got our 6th Curses, but rarely do opposing Snorlax set up all the way, funnily). The reason I use CursePert the most often out of any other Swampert set was that it was so destructive in RSE. I think I'm being obssessed with this set…

Quick Ball set-Radiate, SPIRITSTAR: Mechanical Fish!

quickpz1.png

Leftovers
Natural Cure
136 HP/156 Def/216 Speed
Timid (+Speed, -Attack)
Recover
Thunderbolt
Surf
Rapid Spin

For those of you who know me the longest, yes, the name was previously MYSTICSTAR. I looked up my “profiles” and found out my intended name was SPIRITSTAR. Anyways, how could I not run a team like this and have no Spinner, especially with a Moltres? Even with no offensive training, the sting of the attacks say otherwise. Why do you think Specs Starmie is so effective? Anyways, with Thunderbolt, I can attack Gyarados easily. And don’t you love it when Rapid Spin gets KO’s? I seem to crit with it often.

Premier Ball set-Hunt, KAMAITACHI: Mark of the Aztec Girl!

premiergc1.png

Expert Belt
Pressure
252 Attack/252 Speed/4 Special Def
Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack)Brick Break
Brick Break
Night Slash
Swords Dance
Ice Punch → Ice Shard

My offensive complement to Porygon – Z, even though she was one of the original team members. Actually, she serves better as a defensive complement to Moltres. Why? Because she’s the only other member who has Pressure.
OK, Porygon – Z and Weavile together assassinate many of the Pokémon Moltres had worn away. Most importantly of all, Moltres covers many of the weaknesses many of the team members are to. Moltres only shares its Electrical weakness with Starmie and a Rock weakness with Weavile (she’s not build defensively anyways, so it doesn’t matter). While it seems that most of my team is weak against Scizor, Moltres and Swampert will make sure that Scizor-usage will be very, very, punished. Anyways, being the last member picked on my team (initially), you can see she was meant to clean-up late game (even though I was picking blindly at the time). I use Ice Shard over Ice Punch from the influence of a certain Marowak… It also allows Weavy to not be completely helpless against Scizor; a non-boosted Ice Shard is able to do a good 8-10%
I hope Weavile doesn’t become UU, or else too much of my team will be considered UU and I might get some criticism.

Threats
Why again am I telling you how to beat my best team? Oh, that’s right, I felt like it. And it just wouldn’t be complete without it. Lol, trust me, even if you attempt to bump me off by making a team like this, chances are that you will fail. Besides, what a waste of time it is for you to make a team to specifically counter a quixotic one like this. But of course, teams have their faults somewhere…

The team can potentially be thrashed about by Rain and Baton Pass. My only hope against a good Suicune would be Weavile. On average, she can survive a weak +2 Surf and dig into Suicune with her +2 Night Slash, possibly winning out a match if I’m lucky. I probably can opt for Punishment and Ice Punch on Weavile, but Shard proves itself to be very useful with Night Slash as the main move (though with both Salamence and Latias now gone...).

Certain Scarf Pokemon can also demolish me, Infernape being notable. On a defensive note, I feel very uncomfortable with a Rotom that has Will-O-Wisp/Thunderbolt/Overheat. Again, Weavile dispatches all of these nuisances (maybe Infernape not as well).

Moltres tends to become a forgettable team member against a Rain team. Sun teams are a bit more negligible, but it fairs best against Hail and Sand. Speaking of Water, Vaporeon and Starmie have proven to be issues, defensive and offensive respectively (when vice-versa, I can handle things rather well, which, unfortunately, is not the meta norm). I believe I also got swept by a Poliwag lead once.

On a final note, as I had said earlier, my answer to CurseLax is CursePert, but chances are I’ll win, and if not, Snorlax is hopefully weak enough to meet its end at Weavile or Bronzong.

If you have any issues with my team or my first log, talk to my on Shoddy Battle. I’m there every day, most of the time, on the Smogon server, at least. After this, I intend to put up the rest of my teams and afterwards, my battle logs (all individually). If you want my to put up my F@IL teams, give me a call.

Hello

Not much I can say here, it looks solid.
Although I suggest equiping Porygon-z with a Salac Berry and the usage of Substitute on his moveset (preferably over HP fighting, you will only loose coverage against Heatran and Tyranitar). You can also use Hidden Power (water) on him to hit his 3 most common switch-ins in OU (Gengar, Heatran and Tyranitar).

If you do use this suggestion then I also suggest an EV spread of 6 HP, 128 SpA, 124 SDef, 252 Spe and an IV's spread of 30 Atk, 30 Def, 30 SAtk if you go with Hidden Power (water) (so you can have max speed and a 70 BP HP). With the given EV's Blissey's Flamethrower will take 2 hits to break your Substitute while you can set up on the pink blob, and you can still OHKO Gengar, Heatran and 2HKO Tyranitar with Hidden Power (water).

Hope this helped!

Hiya!

I noticed that you have a slight problem with DD Gyara if it sets up at least 1 DD, since you lack anything that can revenge it. To help remedy this, I will suggest Porygon2 over Porygon-Z. You seem to like Porygon-Z's role on your team, and Porygon2 can do the exact same thing for the cost of a little offensive power. Porygon2 provides you some defensive capabilities that Porygon-Z wish he had, and also has an awesome ability to help negate any DDer's +1 attack. Porygon2's spread is preferably the defensive duck variant, but if you feel like you need it choiced, etc, then go right ahead. Of course, by switching to Porygon2, you lose a little offensive power.

Might I warn your slight Ape weakness, since your only check is Starmie, fearing Grass Knot. I would suggest a Vaporeon, since she can survive +1 Outrage, IIRC from my personal experience, and be able to roar away CroCune who likes to set up on the majority of your team.

Other than that, good luck!
