The Tournament

Overview

This tournament series is a chain of live OU Concealed Draft mini-tournaments held over IRC. Specifically, it is held on #pokedraft on SynIRC (the easiest way to get there is by using this client and typing in #pokedraft for the channel).

Schedule

• This tournament will have a span of 8 Saturdays, beginning Saturday, February 27th.
• A tournament thread will be posted in the Tournaments forum at 8:00 EST. Post in that thread saying “in” if you want to play. Signups close at 8:45 EST.
• The tournament begins at 9:00 EST. Please be in #pokedraft by that time, or you risk being subbed out.

Logistics

• Each mini-tournament will be single-elimination using standard laddering clauses.
• Tournaments will have a cap of 32 players, but we can go to 64 if there are enough willing participants. Signups are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis with subs being taken after the cap.
• After signups have been filled, the organizer (usually me) will split participants into pools of 4 and post pool winner matchups. Each pool will play an OU CONCEALED DRAFT using the process outlined in the “Concealed Draft Summary” section below to determine a pool winner. The pool winners play each other using the pool winner matchups to determine a tournament winner.
• There are 5-10 minutes between rounds. That gives you plenty of time for getting your team tweaked for your next opponent. If you are running behind, just notify one of the hosts.
• We will be using Smogon Tour scoring (but not penalities) to keep track of points.
• At the end of the series, a final tournament, the Championship, will be held with the 8 players with the most points to determine the overall winner of the series. There is no specific date for this tournament yet.

Concealed Draft Summary

This is the format we will be using for each tournament.

• Tournament participants are split into pools of four. Each pool drafts by itself.
• Within each pool, DraftBot will explain the drafting commands and then PM each player a pack of 10 Pokemon.
• Via PM, each player will select one Pokemon from the pack. After each player has selected, DraftBot will pass the packs. Each player gets someone else’s pack, minus the Pokemon which that person had selected, and each player selects once again.
• This process continues until each player has 8 Pokemon. DraftBot will post matchups, which are to be followed in a single elimination fashion until a winner from each pool is determined. Players may only use the Pokemon which they have drafted.

You only draft once per tournament. You use the same set of 8 for the entirety of the tournament.

Additional Rules/Guidelines

1. Please use your forum name as your IRC nickname.
2. It should be obvious, but you aren’t allowed to use any Pokemon other than the ones you have selected during the draft process for the entire tournament.
3. In the past, we have sometimes allowed for a small trading session immediately after the draft process. However, there will be no trading allowed during these tournaments. It makes keeping track of each player’s picks annoying.
4. DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU PLAN TO STAY THE WHOLE TIME. The mini-tournaments should not last as long as the Smogon Tour, but it is possible. If you sign up and the tournament starts, do not leave #pokedraft of your own intention until you lose. If you do, you will be banned from the next tournament. IF YOU LEAVE MORE THAN ONCE, YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM THE WHOLE SERIES.
5. After all of the pool winners have been determined, the host will ask for a list of each pool winner's picks to post on the tournament thread. If you are a pool winner, you are required to inform the host of your picks.
6. Matches should be played on Doug's Create-a-Pokemon Server. Smogon University is far too laggy for this noble tournament. =P

Tips

• Editing your team between rounds is strongly recommended. You will be aware of your opponent's picks, so build your team to counter-team him or her as best as you can.
• #pokedraft is available 24/7, and as long as DraftBot is online and there are people willing to do a draft, feel free to run your own draft for practice. To start the type of draft that will be used during the tournaments, type !concealed PlayerA PlayerB PlayerC PlayerD, and then !OU in #pokedraft. (There are a few other modes supported by DraftBot. Feel free to try them out.)

Game was on the fucking bag until he got 4 crits, one of the pokemon that was going to stop his Scarf Flygon.

4th time in this tournament that bad ass wins vs me solely on hax, should have expected this.

I would love to break the "dont insult rule" since he was a fucking bitch about all the luck in the game after he got it, but I dont want to get infracted.

Earthworm please dont get haxed and beat this guy, he shouldnt even be in the god damn finals.

I have nothing against ew, but i do agree with the first part....

it's true that i am a fucking bitch who shouldn't even be in the finals. but, since i am indeed a fucking haxer, i am in them so i will make my team and contact earthworm. my apologies for this dragging on so far, but iirc rey was vacationing in dallas. he only took one or two days after he got back, so it isn't his fault, but sorry again. and i apologize for being a fucking bitch.
