[SET COMMENTS]

<p>While Metagross generally has a difficult time muscling its way through Rotom-A and Skarmory, this set aims to cripple two of its most common switch-ins. By doing this, it easily opens up holes for Pokemon that have trouble with these two Pokemon in particular. It also makes a great check to other special attackers such as Gengar.</p>

<p>The main advantage this set has over the other sets is its ability to beat or cripple its two most common switch-ins, without relying on Metagross' lower special attacking stat. Trick is the main point of this set, being able to give Metagross' opponent its Iron Ball, while potentially gaining a useful item like Leftovers. Meteor Mash is a semi-reliable STAB move that is extremely powerful even without a boosting item. Earthquake rounds out the coverage of Meteor Mash by being able to hit Heatran who doesn't mind switching into a Meteor Mash, as well as being able to hit Rotom-A and Skarmory after being tricked an Iron Ball. Explosion is a great move to finish the set, OHKOing just about anything that doesn't resist it. Stealth Rock gets a mention in order to provide support for the team, as well as easily bluffing a support set to lure in and unsuspecting counter.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>The EVs provide for optimal bulk, allowing Metagross to take attacks better. Max Attack is used to hit Skarmory and Rotom-A as hard as possible, as well as max the damage of Explosion, crippling anything not immune to it. The Speed EVs allow you to outpace base 115 Pokemon with max Speed EV investments after they have been Tricked an Iron Ball, which can be useful if you happen to catch an Azelf or Starmie on the switch.</p>

<p>Since this Metagross excels at taking out Rotom-A and Skarmory, Pokemon who benefit from their removal are excellent partners for Metagross. Gyarados comes to mind as an excellent partner as it benefits from Rotom-A's removal, while also sporting a convenient resist towards Fire- and Ground-type attacks aimed at Metagross. Salamence also has perfect defensive synergy alongside Metagross, while not particularly enjoying Skarmory in play. Skarmory and Rotom are both suitable counters to Mamoswine, so this Metagross can be of great use to Mamoswine allowing it to sweep effectively once it's two most common counters are out of play.</p>

<p>The best answers to this variant of Metagross are Pokemon who won't mind taking Meteor Mash and can threaten it immediately with an appropriate move. Heatran is a good example to this since it can threaten Metagross with Fire Blast, while switching into Meteor Mash with impunity, however it must be sure that it's not switching in on an Earthquake. Bulky waters can deal with Heatran quite nicely, but must be wary of Explosion. Latias can also take on Heatran and threaten it off with a powerful Surf. If Metagross has already Tricked its Iron Ball, then Rotom-A and Skarmory are still pains to this set, so a Tyranitar could be a valuable partner. Tyranitar can run a bait set to effectively deal with Rotom-A and Skarmory, with access to Crunch, Pursuit and Fire Blast in order to effectively deal with the two. Gyarados can threaten Metagross if it hasn't accomplished its goal, since using Explosion off the bat will ultimately defeat the purpose of this set, making Rotom-A an excellent partner thanks to its capability of handling Gyarados.</p>

Hi, whistle told me you wanted to know what I use.

Metagross @ Iron Ball
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 236 HP/252 Atk/20 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Trick
- Meteor Mash
---

The speed EVs let you outpace 115s that have been tricked an iron ball. I dunno about these weird EVs you have, honestly I think you wanna be smacking rotom and skarmory as hard as you can (if I was using that much special defense I'd probably be running pursuit tbh) but others should probably weigh in on this. I just run SR because it fitted on the team, explosion is fine. Also I think you should mention that although you won't always get rotom and skarmory, everything hates getting tricked an iron ball, so either way you're screwing something.

P.S. In theory scizor is a good partner to this as it loves a slow skarmory / rotom / magnezone.

hmm thanks pana. i know you didn't wanna reveal your set so i didn't ask you again. i'll wait and see what others say, so i'll keep it for now. that looks like a good spread though so thanks for the input!

Lol, I gotta be more active in C&C, and this seemed like a good place to start again. Edits in purple because Ace Matador and Jumpluff bitched at me for using pink.

EDIT: not bad, I just changed around some words here and there.

My first write up. overall pretty nice just needs some fixing i guess.

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>While Metagross is generally seen as an offensive powerhouse, this set forgoes that in order to work as lure: it aims to cripple two of its most common switch-ins, Skarmory and Rotom-A, by Tricking them an Iron Ball. By doing this, it easily opens up holes for Pokemon that have trouble with these two Pokemon in particular. It also makes a great check to other delete: 'random' special attackers such as Gengar in a pinch.<p>

<p>The main advantage this set has over other sets is its ability to beat or cripple its main switchins, without relying on Metagross' lower attacking stat and using Shadow Ball or HP Fire. Trick is the main point of this set, being able to Trick its Iron Ball while potentially gaining a useful item like Leftovers. Meteor Mash is a semi-reliable STAB move that is extremely powerful even without a boosting item. Earthquake rounds out the coverage of Meteor Mash, being able to hit Heatran, who enjoys switching into Meteor Mash. Explosion is a great move to finish the set, KOing mostly anything that doesn't resist it, while crippling Skarmory in case you missed Tricking an Iron Ball onto it.<p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>The EVs provide for optimal bulk, allowing Metagross to survive 2 LO Gengar Focus Blasts, as well as Scarf Heatran's Fire Blast before Stealth Rock is factored in. Max HP is a given to round out Metagross' great overall bulk, and the SpD EVs are to take the hits mentioned before while taking on random neutral assaults better. The rest of the EVs are dumped into Att to boost the power your main attacks, as well as to boost the power of Explosion.<p>

<p>Since this Metagross excels at taking out Rotom and Skarmory, Pokemon who benefit from their removal are excellent partners for Metagross. Gyarados comes to mind as an excellent partner. Rotom is one of the best counters to Gyarados, who also resists Fire and Ground attacks thrown at Metagross. Salamence has perfect defensive synergy alongside Metagross, while not particularly enjoying Skarmory in its path. Metagross also makes a great check to special attackers like Latias, so Infernape could make a great partner since Metagross can easily switch into Latias trying to stop it.<p>

<p>The best answers to this variant of Metagross are Pokemon such as Heatran that don't care about Meteor Mash, while automatically making a threat to Metagross with STAB Fire Blast. If Metagross has already Tricked its Iron Ball, then Rotom and Skarmory are still pains to this set, so a Tyranitar could be a valuable partner. Tyranitar can run a bait set to effectively deal with Rotom and Skarmory, with Crunch and a special Fire-type move respectively. Because Metagross doesn't like blowing up too early, in case it doesn't get its job done, Pokemon like Gyarados can threaten Metagross quite easily. Rotom can make an excellent partner by beating Gyarados.<p>

At the end of a paragraph, you don't use the "<p>" tag...you use the "</p>" tag. Good job though bud ;)

Definitely change EVs to panamaxis' set and list anything not liking the iron ball tricked onto it. I tested this set extensively when I played a lot and you definitely need max attack for all the situations you're going to have against opposing Skarmory and Rotom-a as well as Latias and Salamence, et cetera. With your EVs currently, you do 51.3% - 60.5% to a standard defensive Rotom-H while you do 59.2% - 70.4%, and with max attack you do 43.7% - 52.1% to standard Spiker Skarmory which has a chance to 2hko straight up while with your EVs you do 37.7% - 44.9% which isn't even a guaranteed or decent chance of a 2hko. I don't know about you but I really like the idea of the 2hko on Skarmory and doing 10% more against Rotom-a which really helps in the many situations you'll face while laddering. Just some food for thought and a second opinion I guess. Decent write up, just needs a few revisions.

p.s. max attack Metagross explosions <3

thanks joshe! the calcs really solidified my view. i was just waiting for some opinions. i'll definitely be changing the spread.

nice set

Just something small I found that I think everyone else missed.

If Metagross has already tricked its Iron Ball, then Rotom and Skarmory are still pains to this set, so a Tyranitar could provide a valuable partner.

Every other time the word tricked is mentoined it's in lower case, and I'm pretty sure it's not in capital letters unless it simply says "Trick". If that's not the case change every mentoin of "trick" to "Trick".

"Trick" and all variations of it (Tricked, Tricking, Tricker) are capitalized when referring to the move itself.

You should also mention how Gyarados and Zapdos doesn't like Trick much either, and that Metagross has the bulk to steal Garchomp's Scarf/<Item>.

<p>While Metagross generally has a difficult time muscling its way through Rotom-A and Skarmory ['offensive powerhouse' isn't really relevant to the entire sentence], this set aims to cripple two of its most common switch-ins - Skarmory and Rotom-A. Meteor Mash is a semi-reliable STAB move that is extremely powerful even without a boosting item. [no mention of hitting Rotom-A and Skarmory after tricking?] Explosion is a great move to finish the set, OHKOing mostly anything that doesn't resist it, while crippling Skarmory even more than an Iron Ball Tricked onto it would.</p>

Gyarados comes to mind as an excellent partner as it benefits from Rotom-A's removal, while also sporting a convenient Fire- and Ground-type resist aimed at Metagross. [reworded to combine the short sentence, and your second sentence] Salamence has perfect defensive synergy alongside Metagross, while not particularly enjoying Skarmory in its path. Metagross also makes a great check to special attackers like Latias, so Infernape could make a great partner since Metagross can easily switch into Latias trying to stop it. [last sentence doesn't make sense, the only way metagross stops with pursuit. that's not the case here.]</p>

<p>The best answers to this variant of Metagross are Pokemon who [Pokemon are considered people, so refer to them as who] won't mind taking Meteor Mash and can threaten it with an appropriate move. Heatran is a good example to this since it can threaten Metagross with Fire Blast, while switching into Meteor Mash with impunity. [sounded awkward, so I reworded it] If Metagross has already Tricked its Iron Ball, then Rotom-A and Skarmory are still pains to this set, so a Tyranitar could be a valuable partner. Tyranitar can run a bait set to effectively deal with Rotom-A and Skarmory, with Crunch and a special Fire-type move respectively. Gyarados can threaten Metagross if it hasn't accomplished its task yet, since using Explosion off the bat will defeat this set's purpose. [reworded it because the transition was awkward]. Rotom-A can make an excellent partner by beating Gyarados.</p>

Good job, comments in bold, changes in parenthesis. The only issue I found was the awkward sentences and how you worded it. I changes a couple of those, so look back to your original post to see what I changed. With that, I have a couple of suggestions since I used this set a lot before (inspired by pana):

-look for more pokemon who benefit from the removal of skarmory and rotom-a. lo or cb mamoswine gets a special mention since it currently wields the most powerful eq in the game. with skarmory or rotom-a prone to ground-type hits, mamoswine can really make some noise.

-slash in stealth rock over explosion to bluff some sort of support set. i've never used explosion on this set, but i have used stealth rock. this will effectively bluff a support set, allowing you to easily lure in skarmory and foil its spiking attempts with trick.

-you need to explain what will check heatran so that the players reading the analysis knows what to pair it with.

that's it

thanks so much dude. i finally got around to editing those big changes in. i believe the analysis is now up to par, but i'd like a tad more feedback. thank you everyone who has contributed!
