While the site isn't up yet, refer to the rules below for creating and hosting a tournament as well as playing in one.

TOURNAMENT APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN

HOSTING A TOURNAMENT

In order to post a tournament, PM Groudon80 to get approval. You should have been a member for a while before even bothering to send an idea; if you are not known as a responsible user, you will be denied. If your idea is accepted, you may post a tournament, but you must make sure to follow the rules below.

* Give deadlines; no exceptions. These are the most effective tools we have to preventing tournament lag or expiration.

* Do NOT allow banned users to join your tournament. A full list of users banned from joining tournaments is included in this post.

* Give as few extensions as possible. Extensions promote laziness and can cause people to lose interest in the tournament.

* Do not let your tournament die. If people aren't battling, pester them to get their stuff done.

* Disqualify fairly. If two people are clearly trying to get their battle done, it may be a wise idea to post the next round and just have (A vs B) vs C to not hold the rest up. If two people are not putting effort to get their match done, a coin flip will often do. If there is a problem with this, an admin will step in to clear it up.

* Use Mekkah's Bracketmaker or another device to create random pairings.

* Do not try to cheat the rules as a host.

JOINING & PLAYING IN A TOURNAMENT

* It is your responsibility to get your matches done. Make sure that you PM your opponent as soon as pairings go up to schedule a time to battle. If you consistently do not finish your match, you may be banned from tournaments.

* Be a good sport when posting results/predictions in this forum. Do your trash talking in Firebot, IRC, or in the chat of the battling medium.

* All tournament matches should be played using your forum name to avoid confusion. If a discrepancy arises or confusion ensues from someone using a handle other than their forum nick, that person will likely be disqualified without question or appeal.

*
If there is any sort of bullshit disqualification in any tournament or any other problem, please send a PM to an admin with full details so the situation can be resolved.

Added 9/8/2007 at 8:00pm EST: Do NOT attempt to scout an opponent's team before the match is played. Any attempt to do this will result in immediate disqualification from any tournaments in which you are playing and a potential ban from all Smogon sponsored tournaments. At least pretend to be a good sportsman.

Banned from creating a tournament list:
Judgement
Flub
Deucalion2

Banned from joining a tournament list:
EeveeTrainer
Viodox
Flub
Dagger

Make sure you read all of these threads before you make a tournament or join a tournament or anything. This way you do not allow banned people to join. And you know all the rules and stuff.

ok just to attract some attention to this thread because the site isn't up -- PM ME FOR APPROVAL IF YOU HAVE A TOURNAMENT IDEA. DO NOT POST A TOURNAMENT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE APPROVAL.

A "no scouting" rule has been added as a blanket rule in all tournaments. (effective immediately- not retroactively)

Added a note about using recognizable nicknames on battle sims for all tournament matches... I thought that was obvious commonsense, but it appears I was mistaken.
